I lost my swiss resident B-permit today and I think i might have a chance retrieving it tomorrow night. But im not sure if i should report it lost to the police station before tomorrow night (in the morning) because as far as i know once i report it lost i would HAVE to get a new one regardless of if i find the old one or not. Or Is it safe for the lost id card to remain unreported for at-most a day?
Hey! I’m a student here in Switzerland and have to commute to my uni every day. So far I was just paying each ticket with halbtax since having Abonnement from point a to point b is literally more expensive than to get GA. I’m not ready for this ouch ouch bill from having annual or even monthly payments for GA. Mentally it’s just much easier to pay “less” but every day.
I figured that there’s no discount for students, just for youth. But I was still wondering if I could somehow get a discount for getting GA? I’ve heard they sometimes send individual letters with discounts, but never got one myself (and I doubt I’ll ever will). Does anybody know where I could, perhaps, ask for one? I have to make sure I’ve tried everything before I spend this ridiculous amount of money.
Hello! My 8 year old wanted to get a subscription to Crunch Labs, a US program where they send you an educational science kit once a month. Turns out that delivery cost is higher than the subscription itself… pretty unaffordable.
Do you know if there’s anything similar in Switzerland or in the EU? A science or tech kit that could be delivered to our house monthly? Thank you!!
I pass through many cities in the country on a weekly basis, and rarely have I seen one that gets anywhere near Lausanne in terms of construction. Most construction I've seen in most Swiss cities is simple road work (fixing potholes, sidewalks, etc.)
Some examples: train station, Riponne, Flon, cathedral, Poste St Francois, BHNS, etc.
I live in Switzerland and brought a cat from a non-EU country, requested and received an import permit from BLV (Bundesamt für Lebensmittelsicherheit und Veterinärwesen), cleared the customs with the cat and registered its chip by a vet. Now I'd want to bring the cat back to the non-EU country it came from.
Do I need to notify any Swiss authorities of the fact the cat won't live with me anymore?
Anibis is my goto classifieds site in Switzerland for anything. On the homepage I always stumble upon massage ads. Going through these ads I see that there are always 1000s more. What is noticeable is HOW MANY PEOPLE LOOK AT THESE ADS! Tens of thousands. Now, I am for sure not hearing about massages on the street and in the trains.
I am not a total noob but, something tells me this is NOT just for massages? lol please don't bring out a secret if you don't have to, but there iS nO wAy ThEse ArE jUsT FoR MaSsAgEs right?
I have been living in Switzerland for almost my entire life but I have lived abroad for a few years. When I lived abroad, most people told me that they have never used any illegal drugs. Of course, maybe they have lied to me but let's assume they didn't because I am not a cop.
Anyway, when I talk to people who grew up in Switzerland or who have lived in Switzerland for most of their lives, they have all used illegal drugs (mostly smoked weed, some used cocaine and a few didn't want to tell me which illegal drugs besides weed that they have consumed) except for a handful of people and I have had to do with people from a diverse background: People from working class families, people from extremely wealthy families, from ethnic Swiss to foreign, from young to old, rural and urban, etc..
I have never used any illegal drugs (but I am for the decriminalization of weed and maybe some other drugs) and don't intend to. I have never even drank alcohol. Most people are shocked and sometimes even don't believe when I tell them that I have never used any illegal drugs in my life. Even when I talked to doctors and they asked if I have ever used illegal drugs, they are surprised when I tell them that I haven't.
This makes me believe that most people who grew up here or have lived their entire lives in Switzerland, have, at some point, used illegal drugs. Have you made similar experiences? Would you agree that most people have used illegal drugs in their lives at one point? and: Do you think that illegal drug usage is more prevalent in Switzerland? If so: Is there a reason?
Thanks for your answer!
I bought a ticket from the ticket machine and i did change my mind and then they asked 10chf for refund but the ticket is 7.40chf... If i had it bought it on the smartphone i could be refund as before the validation time which i still had and it's as easy as a click. Lesson learned use internet of things instead of old method as apparently the don't like it so they can better track each passenger... Sbb cff sucking us. [Edited]
My neighbour keeps complaining (shouting at me from her window) that I am leaving public scooters (Lime, Tier, Boi) on the sidewalk. I read online that parking scooters is allowed on the sidewalk as long as there is at least 1.5m still left for pedestrians. It kinda seem like there is, but there's a pedestrian crossing (right side of the image) and abumper that also acts as pedestrians crossing (on the left side of the image). There's also this designated parking spot on the sidewalk that I try not to block. Is it possible that she owns the entire sidewalk and not just the designated parking? Am I allowed to park there? Anyone else experienced a similar dispute?
Hi guys,
Recently moved to Zurich and I am looking for a place where I can play recreational volleyball. Not looking to play in a club, but love playing and and need to stay active before the beach volley season comes back.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks again !
I usually pay my insurance for the whole year. I was wondering what happens if for example you leave the country before the year ends. Do you get the % of money back? What happens with the deductible and co-payment (i.e. you do something very expensive during the first half of the year).
With ski season coming up I'm considering to step up my base layer game. I have a high quality non-insulated hard-shell combo and a wide range of mid layers from fleece to down on both pants and tops, but my base layers are literally all 20 years old.
So question is what base layers you guys rely on for mid & cold weathers. Especially for someone who sweats quickly and a lot. And ideally stuff that also is good for running and hiking. If it's a Swiss product would be best but otherwise at least sold locally to be able to try on.
Hi everybody,
I am 30, I live and work in Switzerland since 5 years, and I spent all this time in Basel, a nice city but I really struggled on this period to make connections with people. I actually have very few friends here , and so I started to think about the possibility to move to Zurich and try a new experience in a bigger and nicer (in my opinion) city, but I am afraid I could find a similar situation struggling to make connections and to find some kind of happiness
I actually live alone in Basel and I have a work where I just need to be at the office twice per week, so it would not be so terrible to me to go twice per week from Zurich to Basel. In Zurich I might potentially either rent a small apartment just for myself, or share it with one friend I met recently. What would u do in my situation, do u think is it worthy to try a new experience in Zurich, or is there the risk to find a similar situation like in Basel and so at the end just waste a lot of money for that? Is there anybody who faced a similar situation and moved to Zurich?
Hi.
Are bike helmets mandatory for children in Switzerland?
And if they are, what constitutes a bike here? Does it include "alternative riding vehicles" that exist for smaller kids, such as these half-trolley/half-bike or N-in-1s?
Thanks
Edit: My point is not whether helmets are necessary for "typical" bikes, but about devices that are halfway between a bike and a stroller, e.g. have pedals but also belts and seatbacks.
So far my rule of thumb has been this: If the child can fall from it, they should wear helmet. Wondering if it makes sense legally too.
My partner and I rent a property here in Switzerland. She is Swiss, I am English. I don’t think that affects this story but all my vague knowledge on rental laws are English.
Recently there was maintenance done on our reservoir. We were told the water would be off for the day. No big problem.
The maintenance finished three days ago. Still no water. We called the landlord who would send his handyman to sort the issue. Here’s where things get a little complicated. The landlords handyman is the ex of my partner. We were told he would be there at 15:00 yesterday and he was a no show. We are worried he will refuse to do the work but in the meantime while all this plays out we are without water.
Yesterday after the no show we reminded the landlord that we have animals that rely on the water also. He simply replied saying his guy will fix it.
My partner doesn’t want to push the landlord too hard because we don’t want the stress of an eviction in three months.
Again, this may not affect the story but the house is in terrible shape. The roof leaks, the electrics are not up to standard and the basement is growing a mould which looks pretty toxic. We don’t bother him with these problems and knowing who is the handyman we do a lot of work around the property ourselves. But having no water is something we can’t do without.
So I guess I’m just asking for advice. How do we stand legally? Is there anything we can do or people we can contact if the issue is not resolved without getting us kicked out in a few months?
Thanks 🙏
Hi everyone, I hope this is not OT I am considering buying a used car, how can I protect myself to avoid being scammed or that the car has accidents or extra miles etc.... I was wondering if there were any services that with the chassis code or other data could give the possibility to check the true condition of the car. The car is used 2021 and it says on autoscout that it has never been in an accident and was not imported Thanks to all
A while ago I came across an interactive map that showed the angles of the sun at different times of the day depending on month. I was able to zoom in quite specifically to different addresses. I used it to see how much sunlight a potential apartment would get. Despite searching, I can't seem to find this map again. Does anyone recall this or have a link?
Hoi zäme,
I was wondering if there's a law that enforce the pedestrian priority at zebra crossing? I'm living in Zürich currently and I'm unpleasantly surprised that drivers don't really care and I've been almost hit yesterday. Who has the priority?
Is anyone in Switzerland also bothered by loud and long church bell at 6 in the morning? I tried talking to Gemeinde, to church. They gaslight me into "it was always like this" and do nothing.
But in reality it started a month ago. I live in this place for over a year. Only now I wake up at 6 every day and can't fall asleep again. Because of this bell.
Please recommend me a solution, but not "move out, change windows, fall asleep earlier". Something that can affect the negotiation with the church. Make them return the bell to the previous state, when it was not so bothering.
I ordered an item on AliExpress for 61.99USD shipping included shipped from Czech Republic by a Chinese seller.
I know quite well the customs rules in Switzerland. If VAT is less than 5CHF (order of less than ~62CHF), you don't have to pay the VAT and the transporter can't charge you very high custom processing fees.
I received the package, and a few days later I received a message from DHL asking me to pay 22.05CHF...
I told them I don't agree with this invoice because it should not be subject to duty. They sent me the declaration from the sender, and to my surprise he declared 89.74EUR!
Of course I can't refuse/return the package that they left in the hallway in my absence...
I contacted everybody I could:
- AliExpress seller: "I declared 61.99USD"
- AliExpress platform (dispute): "We will escalate and give you feedback in a few days" => followed by an irrelevant AI generated email to apologize.
- DHL: "We don't care, it was declared as 89.74EUR. You need to pay now or we will add additional fees". And to be honest, I think they are quite "happy" with this mistake.
- Swiss Customs: "If you want your item to be processed again with the correct amount, you need to pay 30CHF, so it is not worth it"
I was not able to contact the sender, which seems to be some kind of warehouse or package forwarder: "c/o Online Seller CZ" with an address in Germany and what looks like a Chinese phone number.
I'm pretty sure I am not the first one to be in this kind of situation.
I spent several hours to try to sort this out. Unfortunately unless you are a lawyer or know a good one that can work for free, the only solution is to pay...
Years ago I saw a documentary about a company employing autistic people (not some social program, but an actual company). I just can’t remember anything about it and it would be very useful for a friend’s son right now.
Does anyone know such a company?
Hello everyone, I’m noticing that a few of the knobs on our floor heating module appear to be stuck, making it hard to adjust. As a result, two of our bedrooms aren’t heating up properly and are staying quite cold. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue before? Do you have any tips or suggestions on things I could try to fix this on my own, or is it best to just call a technician to take a look? I’d appreciate any advice on what might help. Thanks in advance for any insights!
I have an Old Drone 249g, can I fly without issues? I checked the federal site and I am free from registration or labeling my drone( doesn’t have an class because it’s old)
I already checked the map where I can fly and not fly the drone, do I miss something? Did I really understand right or I am wrong?
Hi!
I just recently moved back to Switzerland and was hoping to get motorbike lessons here. However, my German isn’t really good enough yet for German driving lessons. I was wondering if you knew of any classes you can take in English?
Thank you for the help 😊
Hey everyone, I could really use some help. My mom's car is being tracked. We already took it to a car service center, but they couldn't find anything. Does anyone know a reliable private investigator or someone skilled in the Zurich area who could help us locate the tracker?
Thank you so much for any recommendations!
