Hello Zurich community! My 10-year-old son and I are hoping to expand our social circle and make some new friends in the area. We've been in Zurich for a while but we finding it a bit challenging to connect with people outside of school and work. My son is a sweet, creative kid who loves music, technology, board games, and reading. He's learning to play saxophone and ukulele, and enjoys singing and dancing too. While he's not super into team sports, he's always excited to learn new things and meet people who share his interests. We're looking to meet other families, especially those with kids around his age (8-12), who might want to get together for:
We speak both German and English, so language is no barrier. If you're interested in meeting up or know of any great groups/activities we should check out, please let me know!
See you!
Have you seen how they serve the food at Popeyes in Zurich? I thought it was a trash.
I lost my swiss resident B-permit today and I think i might have a chance retrieving it tomorrow night. But im not sure if i should report it lost to the police station before tomorrow night (in the morning) because as far as i know once i report it lost i would HAVE to get a new one regardless of if i find the old one or not. Or Is it safe for the lost id card to remain unreported for at-most a day?
Anyone has any idea how much is the typical net hourly rate for cleaning lady employed privately? Do you also give yearly bonus ?
We want to move to an area where we would be close to a good school. Our baby is 5 months for now but we are looking to find a place to move where he can go to a good school. I checked maturitätsquote in Zürich kanton and now we live in Kloten, and seems this area is not having a good quote. We thought about moving on gold/silver coast within the next 1-2 years but woukd like to fond out what schools are best. I know in Zürich schools are generally good, but besides Maturitätsquote that gives a good image over what schools are better, I heard some schools for example don't handle well bulling.
Do you know any good farm places where we can buy good quality meat? I'd also like to make my own bone broth and would like to find a good source. I know farmy is an option as obline store but is pretty expensive and would like to know if I can go myself pick up the meat.
What restaurants you recommend where we can go with baby under 10 months old. Basically places where there is good changing area, ideally breastfeeding. There are places for kids (with playground/corner to play) but for a baby this is not interesting. I like Nude and Latte Stories in Zürich but I don't know other as good for babies as these 2.
Hi everyone,
I have a question related to career progression in Zurich. I have a background in quantitative finance from a top swiss university, but I found myself stuck since a few years in a job in credit risk which I don’t enjoy and where I haven’t learned anythjng unfortunately.. I am starting to consider changing jobs/companies but I find it difficult to get out of the Risk management area with a quantitative background, while wanting to stay here in Zurich. I also have struggle to stay relevant in my field with my current outdated skillset. Therefore, I would like to ask you, esp. those of you who work in a similar field, whether you would have an advice for me on how to get my career rolling. I unfortunately can’t speak german, but I have started learning. I can however speak French. I am starting to dread my job a lot, and minor tasks are starting to feel heavy. Thanks a lot for your help.
Hey, Does anyone have recommendations for a daycare that works well for a young baby (5ish months when starting out)? I am familiar with the map provided by the city (https://www.maps.stadt-zuerich.ch/zueriplan3/stadtplan.aspx#route_visible=true&basemap=Basiskarte+(Geb%C3%A4udeschr%C3%A4gansicht)&map=&scale=8000&xkoord=2684533.019132368&ykoord=1247437.0834813602&lang=&layer=Kita%3A%3A38&window=&selectedObject=&selectedLayer=Kita&toggleScreen=1&legacyUrlState=&drawings=) but the amount of choice is a tiny bit overwhelming
I need some suggestions with reviews for good restauranst with mexican food in kanton Zürich
This is probably stupid but here’s my situation: I buy sweet potatoes fairly frequently and have never had a problem finding nice large sweet potatoes. Today I’m shopping for sweet potatoes and I need about 10 for a dish. I can’t find them anywhere! I’ve checked two Lidls (where I normally find them) and Coop in Oerlikon and there is nothing. I finally found some small ones at Migros, but I feel like i’m going crazy! They’re in season- did my stores just miss a shipment or is there a sweet potato issue going on?
I’ve solved my problem but I’m still curious. Does anyone have an idea?
Hi all,
I’ll be in zurich in 2 weeks, is there any AD who offers discounts on Longines watches in the city centre? (Not second hand)
Thank you all,
Does anyone know of fun things to do in zürich?? Not just bars, clubs and restaurants or the cinema. I'm sick of just drinking, eating, and watching. Anything like arcades at all? Stuff that doesn't close at 9pm?
Hi. The train stations Glattbrugg and Opfikon are two very separate stations, but only a few hundred metres apart. Isn't it a waste of resources on management/logistics side?
I understand they serve two different lines, but if the stations were built a few metres to the south where the tracks split, they could be merged, no?
Does anyone know why and how we ended up eith two stations instead of one? Was it because one of them was built much earlier than the other? The price of land? And is there any discussion on merging the two?
I've noticed a strange smell in Zurich this morning. It smells somehow unpleasant, and I wonder if it might have something to do with the fog or other weather conditions. Any ideas?
Hi everyone!
I've got SWICA's health insurance for international students 26-. When doing everything online, there was a price 96 chf per month, and the insurer sent me a policy from my day of entry with the price 96 chf. I've got a paper letter by SWICA with my policy. There were two policies: one from my entry day with the price 96 chf (the policy I've seen online) and one from 01.01.2025 with the price 121.7 chf per month. It was never the speech about 121.7 chf per month (and it doesn't sound reasonable as it is about 30% price increase).
Is it ok? Is it true I cannot do anything now, because since they sent me a policy, I already have this insurance and I can't change it before a year has passed (even though they didn't tell me anything about the significant price increase and completely everywhere the speech was only about 96 chf)?
Thank you for your answers in advance 🙏
As per the title, i'm looking for your reccomandation for the best greek restaurant in zurich!
Hey fellow Zürchers, do you know if there are any thrift markets in Zurich? Or even places where you can get used stuff for free? Danke
Ich W, bin auf der Suche nach einer Domina die mich mit der Kunst des Dominieren vertraut macht. Kennt ihr eine Domina die offen hierfür wäre? Danke :)
Hi everyone,
I have a simple question, would it somehow be possible to get into the GA area with a seated place ticket and would i get into trouble if i tried doing so?
Celebrating a friend’s achievement next week over a fondue and I would like to buy one small truffle to add to it. I’m not made of money, but I would love to make it extra special somehow. :)
So the question is, does anyone know where I can buy a small fresh truffle in the city? I’ve never bought one before!
Merci in advance 🙏
Hi all,
31/M/Sporty
It's quite late in the season, but I want to start learning to paraglide as soon as the optimal conditions allow. Right now, it's too cold for optimal conditions, and it would be a more pleasant experience to start in spring after the ski season anyway. Do you guys know/have heard of good recommendations and/or locations to start paragliding? I did a try-out lesson near Arth-Goldau last season but it was too far away to go there every time from Zurich but I recently found out that there are some nearby places/schools to at least learn how to ground handle on a bunny hill etc.
The idea is to start to hike & fly eventually.
Please let me know if you have any tips to get me started on this endeavor.
Best!
While looking for a new flat I've been interested at a particular new building (built in 2020) in Schlieren next to the train station. I've noticed for the past year that every few months or so at least one or two apartments are posted up for rent in this particular building. The turnover rate seemed suspicious, so I looked up the Administration and noticed the extremely bad reviews (couldn't believe it was worse than what I'm used to with Privera). Last week three new apartments in that building were posted up for rent and I registered for visitation but I am in doubt whether or not I should be suspicious and what to ask the current tenants why exactly they are moving out?
Did you make any similar observations for high turnover rates of a building? What was the issue?
My girlfriend and I are thinking about experimenting a bit with locations. We’re curious about what places others have experienced, to maybe draw some inspiration from it! :)
Hello everyone, pretty much what the title says. My partner and I moved here a few months ago after he managed to get a good job offer, so we decided to relocate (it’s always been a goal of his to get here). We’ve lived in a few countries across Europe before, but it’s always an adjustment I suppose. I was curious about getting to know people that moved here in similar circumstances, possibly have a chat/coffee and exchange thoughts about this experience, especially now that the weather is getting colder and grey and it can get pretty isolating.
Hello guys, where do you think I would have the highest chances to find a Barbour Bedale Jacket?
Cheers
I’ll be in Zurich next month and am looking for a restaurant/bar that I can have a nice yet informal dinner date with a coworker. I’m ideally looking for somewhere that serves wine or cocktails and small plates rather than a full meal.
My hotel is near the opera and “No Name Bar” looks like a good option but I cannot understand the vibes or service from anything on the internet. It looks like there is only one communal table which would not be conducive for my 1 on 1 interaction but I really can’t tell for certain.
Does anyone have any insight or recommendations on these topics? Any input is appreciated!
