Lunch options!

I need recommendations for take out lunch options around Town Hall/A6 area that are really good. Colleague and I take turns to choose the lunch options šŸ˜ We've done Rack and Lucky's - my turn this week. We're trying to avoid big chains generally (Subway/McDs etc).

New sub for The North of England, hoping it becomes active: r/TheNorthEngland

Created a new sub: r/TheNorthEngland Ā as there's currently no active subs that are just for the North. I'm hoping it becomes similar to this sub, but for questions/discussions regarding the whole of the North of England. Hoping it will become active and would super appreciate anyone who's interested or has the time to join/post :)

Looking at moving near Lincoln / Ratcliffe Towers / Mottram Road

Iā€™m looking at moving to the above area - not into the flats themselves but near.

Iā€™ve walked through and while the area doesnā€™t thrill me with joy, it doesnā€™t seem too bad.

Though that being said I am a young woman who would sometimes be walking home alone after the last train back to Stockport. Though Iā€™m thinking if and when I do this, Iā€™ll walk up via middle hill gate as opposed to through the estate.

Can anyone shed any thoughts / experience or generally ease my anxieties please? šŸ˜‚

Stockport Metrolink project to be given green light in 2025.

In 2026, an amber light and a red one in 2027. 2029 will hopefully see the start of construction on a second set of traffic signals ;) https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/stockports-metrolink-plan-move-ahead-30471594

David smith ?

Trying to find my uncle, David smith from Stockport, brother of Melvyn Smith.

Last I heard he was arrested and sentenced to a time in prison around 2011, he should be long out by now though.

If anyone has any information as to his whereabouts, we would love to go in touch

Adswood / Cheadle hulme

Hi, I wondered if any locals could weigh in on living off adswood road?

Looking at a house that comes under Cheadle hulme but seems to be on the cusp of adswood, which Iā€™ve heard mixed things about.

Is this an ok area? Any advice on what itā€™s like?

Green bin charge

I don't have a green bin and haven't had one for 10 years, it went missing one day and the council say I must pay to have a new one to which I refuse so I take all my garden waste to the tip myself, so should I be exempt from the proposed Ā£59 green bin collection charge ?

What is it like living near Stockport FC

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to possibly move to Edgeley near Stockport FC. Obviously I'd expect some noise, parking issues living so close to a football club but wondered if anyone nearby can give more insight into what it's like as a resident? Do you have much trouble? Anything I should be aware of?

Thanks! :)

Reddish South / Heaton Chapel

Hi šŸ‘‹ please could you let me know if the area in-between Reddish South and Heaton Chapel is a good area? Looks really well connected to Reddish, Heaton Chapel and Heaton Moor! Specifically near the Grey Horse / Union Inn? Thank you!

Laurus Cheadle Hulme primary school - pre school

Hi

We're wanting to send our son to the preschool in September, we went to view the primary but have missed the pre school open day.

Does anyone send their children there? What's your opinion of the place.

We liked the primary school and assume the preschool will be similar

Controversial pub quiz question

Attended a pub quiz last night with the below question:

Q: Select each band from the below list that come from Manchester

Oasis New Order Blossoms Happy Mondays The 1975 Stone Roses

I was overruled in saying Blossoms werenā€™t as they are from Stockport and I knew 1975 were Wilmslow which I thought was even further out. Turns out all answers were correct so lucky I was overruled.

So my question as someone who only recently moved to the area, do you count yourself as being from Manchester?

Dodge hill, Heaton norris

Does anyone have any experience living near here? What are Lancashire hill flats and surrounding areas like? We've been a few times to check out the area and it seems safe enough, just a few homeless people. Thanks

Looking for Folks who are into Indie Filmmaking

Hello everyone,

I am an aspiring screenplay and scriptwriter with a solid understanding of filmmaking, videography, and photography. I'm looking to connect with individuals or groups involved in independent short film projects where I can collaborate and contribute my skills. My goal is to learn more about the craft and grow through hands-on experience.

While I've explored platforms like Facebook, I haven't had much luck finding the right groups or opportunities, so I decided to reach out here. If you're working on a project and need a writer who can also assist with filming and editing, Iā€™d love to collaborate and bring value to your work.

Additionally, if you have any suggestions on how I can connect with independent filmmakers or join relevant groups, Iā€™d greatly appreciate your guidance. Thank you

Inclusive team sports

I moved to Stockport a while back and wanted to try out a new team sport to make some friends and keep me busy. Iā€™m struggling to find anything thatā€™s beginner friendly, includes coaching/training, and is ideally (but not necessarily) explicitly LGBTQ+ friendly.

Iā€™m not too bothered what the sport is and Iā€™m open to trying anything as long as itā€™s played in a team.

Any ideas?

Things that are more expensive in Stockport than London

Parked in the Stockport Station NCP today so the family could enjoy the new helix walking route down to Red Rock. Knew itā€™d be expensive but Ā£17.95! Wow! When I drive to London itā€™s Ā£8 up to 24 hours at the tube station.

Drinking a soya latte at the Church Inn in Cheadle Hulme costs a lot more than having one celeb-spotting at Samā€™s Cafe in Primrose Hill.

Ā£2 per bus up here vs Ā£1.75 for your whole journey in London. Donā€™t even mention the trains.

Stockportā€™s better than London so maybe itā€™s not that surprising but itā€™s just so different from 20 years ago. How long before renting in Edgeley is as expensive at Muswell Hill?

Stockport pubs open Christmas Day?

Hi everyone,

I have family coming to stay over for Christmas and I'm looking for pubs in the town centre to be open on Christmas Day. I'm Offerton based so either the town centre or around there ideally, don't really want to be going further out than that as needs to be walkable.

Thanks all!

House prices in Edgeley

Been looking to buy a house in Edgeley as renting is getting out of control. Do we think house prices have reached their peak? We keep getting out bid by silly amounts and Iā€™m starting to wonder if weā€™ve missed the boat and need to look elsewhere. šŸ˜¬

Steepest hill in Stockport

The steepest hill/street I ever found in Stockport was that little footpath that leads from the market hall down to the town centre; right next to the bakers vault ending opposite barclayā€˜s. Is there any steeper street/path anywhere in Stockport that you know of?
