Hello,
To get straight to the point, I am doing a very early search for a roommate for or closely following July 2025 (I am posting this early to hopefully give time for people to respond). I am, fortunately or unfortunately, a neat freak. I have an absolutely lovely roommate right now (genuinely she is such a sweet person) but our standards of cleanliness are just not the same and I think it's probably best if I specifically look for a roommate that labels themselves as a "neat-freak" or "hyper-clean."
I try to relax when it comes to neatness in common spaces but I definitely always have a bit of stress coming home or feel like I am always cleaning up behind my roommate. And I recognise that it is 100% my problem to deal with, so I am trying this strategy. If you know you'll be looking for a roommate around next summer, please feel free to reach out. We can definitely discuss cleanliness specifics at lengths so that you have the clearest understanding before deciding if you're interested. To clarify - I couldn't care LESS about how your personal space is (that, quite frankly, is none of my business), just common spaces.
Other than stress cleaning, I am a pretty easygoing person. I am introverted: I appreciate quieter quality time (like watching shows together) however I sleep like the dead so you can be as loud as you want in/around the house. I am a PhD student so I usually come home pretty late. I enjoy running and weightlifting so if you need a workout buddy, believe me you've got one!
My partner and I are going to be in York this weekend for our anniversary. I was thinking of asking her to renew our vows and making it a little bit like another proposal, and I was wondering if there were any quiet but nice spots around the city (maybe on the walls somewhere?) that might suit?
She wouldn't appreciate a crowd if I did get down on one knee again as she's the type to likely be quite embarrassed, but I don't expect to be the only soul around either. Any thoughts greatly appreciated!
Since the Christmas Market has been on, I have seen 2 or 3 blokes asking people for money for wristbands and joke books on parliament street/ feasegate outside the tourist information centre. Always the same blokes. They have never approached me, but I’m sure they are claiming it’s for some sort of charity. There are sometime charity people on that spot but they normally have branded shirts and clipboards and stuff, looking more official. These guys seem to be quite persistent with people, and are just a bit scruffy. I saw one today having a full on shouting match with someone which ended with him shouting ‘retard!’ And walking quickly away. I’m sure it’s a scam, but even if not, the way they handle themselves must step over the line in to harassment or something. Although I have seen PCSOs and BID street rangers walk straight past them and do nothing.
I remember a guy in St Helens square sometime doing something similar on weekends, a big Geordie guy if I recall correctly, not sure if he still does. Is it just the council/ police being lazy or are they genuinely not breaking any laws? They seem like they get a fair few people to give them money. Must be making a few bob. Has anyone been stopped by them or know anything more about them?
Hi all. I am taking my partner and his 6 year old little girl out for his 40th birthday.
I have booked afternoon tickets to go and watch the panto at the opera house and then want to go for a bite to eat afterwards…..
Somewhere with a children’s menu and if it is somewhere that would be able to put up a couple of balloons or similar to make the place look special that would be a bonus!
Thankyou
Are there any sunday leagues sides that I can join? I want to start back football but I can’t find a team to join.
Yep, slightly random but I want to try and cook a goat curry. Does anybody know where I can buy some goat meat please? Any good recipes would also be appreciated!
Hi everyone! I’m moving to York in January and I was wondering if anyone here knows any decent CrossFit gyms? Thanks in advance!
Chameleon turns 5 on Friday 13th December. We've invited Leeds legend Paul Woolford (Special Request) to go b2b with Fabric resident Hutch !
Tickets are just £10, these two have never gone b2b before and are really excited. Get involved !
Probably quite last minute now, but does anyone know any decent place in York that’s doing a NYE event, I’m thinking meal drinks and countdown We were gonna do lucias but I think they’re fully booked for our group size
I’m 26F and I’m finding it hard to meet single people in York. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions of how to meet new people without having to go on dating sites or go to bars? I realise it may seem silly not wanting to join dating apps but I just don’t think I’m that type of person. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
Hey, does anyone know the nearest hardware store to the centre please. The old style kind where I can get a cable changed on something from a US plug to a UK one. Thanks 🙂
Hi! I am investigating some alternative volunteering ideas in York. We are offering 3 x options to our team members for a Xmas activity to participate in but recently got told the York Foodbank was not accepting any corporate volunteering so looking for viable alternative for an afternoons volunteering - any ideas welcomed!
Cycling down Monkgate and I had to stop and get a picture of this - one of the clearest I’ve seen! Happy Monday everyone
I’d cook it myself but I’m a terrible cook and the roux attempts always fail
Since moving into York 4 months now, wanted to visit Designer outlet & we picked up today to visit, my god was overwhelmed with the crowd, understood it was bcoz of the Black Friday sale, but how is it generally otherwise on weekends?
Hey friends,
I’m travelling up from wales with like 8 mates and we’re thinking it’d be smart to book somewhere for new years (for drinking mainly). Any recommendations? We’ve been before and we were fortunate to get some seats in a few pubs but with our numbers I’d rather not risk anything.
Cheers, Jim
I’ve had a few disposables left over for years from when I quit smoking and I’m wondering where I should take them as I don’t want to chuck them in the landfill bin.
I don’t drive so somewhere in the city centre would be best. I know some places have those plastic bins you can pop your vapes into but I don’t know where in town offers them.
Thanks for the help!
Hi all - just wondering what you all get broadband speed wise in the area. Our street can get max 25mbs and it’s impossible and just doesn’t work. Have looked at mobile WiFi but the signal in the area for indoor 5G also isn’t great. Does anyone have any recommendations of what could be done?
First DM gets it
I think the last thread on this is 3 years old so I thought I’d start another.
I’ve always used the York Cars Taxis app but have had a few experiences where they are late, today it was 15 minutes late and I missed my train. I guess everyone has off days but it’s happening too often now.
Any recommendations?
looking for somewhere in city centre to get tea, specifically something quite hearty like a good pie
any recommendations are really appreciated! thanks in advance
My husband and I are thinking of moving to York in 2-3years time. I know it’s still far off but we want to look for an area wherein schools are near, child friendly environment and definitely not on the city centre. We’re already eyeing Upper Poppleton but other suggestions are highly appreciated 😊
I'm new to York and to the UK, so there are a lot of simple systems I'm trying to figure out. The latest is how to hire people for small jobs.
Right now I need to hire someone to wash my windows, and to move furniture within my house.
In my old community, where I lived for 20 years, there was a pretty active neighborhood Facebook group. I'd ask for recommendations, and for the window washing there'd be a ton of responses but I'd assume half of them were people suggesting their own or a close relative's business, so I'd look for comments from people I knew, however vaguely. For the furniture, a bunch of people would say "My teenage sons will do it for [low price]!" and I'd hire them. Like, I don't need professional movers, I just need a couple people who can carry heavy things up and down stairs while I direct.
Now I'm in York, and I don't know anyone, and the Facebook groups all seem a little weird. So, how do I find someone to do these tasks?
Hello, sorry for the shameless request, i am trying to get some Pokémon cards for my nephew for Christmas and wondered if anyone in the local community had some old ones / ones they don't use that you would be willing to donate. I am quite happy to travel to collect, Please and thankyou very much 😊
We have an old taxi we use for events in Summer and Halloween that I need to store until Easter / warmer months.
Last year we popped it down to my in-laws which is a couple of hours away but it sustained damage by the transportation both ways so I’m keen to find somewhere local.
Dry and secure, we won’t need constant access short of checking in on it once or twice a month to make sure it’s safe and sound.
The council garages are a dead end, and the big storage places want an insane amount of money.
Any ideas, suggestions or offers much appreciated.
Hi everyone. Couple of rooms in my house is loosing temperature really quickly. I have even had someone come look at the double glazing to see if they were causing the issues but they seem to be in tact.
Is there anywhere near York from where I can hire a thermal imaging camera to figure it out or any other recommendations. Thanks.
