What can cause this?

I've now had two copies of 36 Great Holes that do this on my 32x. If I load the same game via my Everdrive, this doesn't happen.

What can cause this to occur?

The 32X, The story of Sega's most divisive Console (Documentary)

HistoricNerd just posted a most excellent video documentary, which describes the history of the 32X. It's about 40 minutes long, and professionally produced. My fellow 32X worshipers will really enjoy this:

How much does a European 32X cost these days?

Is it worth trying to find one? I seem to find US/NTSC ones but not PAL.

Are there any Master System adapters that work with the 32X?

I have a Master System, but the controller ports aren't working properly so I was looking into a cartridge-slot-based adapter as a cheap replacement. However, a lot of what I've found so far appears to state that most cartridge-based adapters (as well as the Power Base Converter) don't work with the 32X due to how the unit accesses the Genesis. Are there any SMS adapters known to work in a 32X without bricking my Tower of Power?

Does anyone have a PDF of the PAL manual in English? Preferably UK version if possible

Even a picture of the page that has illustrations of what comes in the box.

Trying to buy CIB but sellers are a bit clueless.

Region compatibility between ntsc cartridges and pal consoles

Sorry if this has already been asked. I own a japanese copy of knuckles' chaotix, and a pal megadrive (both model 2 and the model with the cd on the side). A friend gifted me a pal 32x console. Currently need to get cables for them first. Do I have any hope getting my japanese cartridges to work on pal consoles? I've modified my base megadrive to run in both ntsc and pal if that makes a difference? So it runs both pal and japanese cartridges. Just seeing some conflicting info online? Thanks guys 😊

How would the 32X do with games like Resident Evil, Tomb Raider and Metal Gear Solid?

I never owned a 32X but have thought about it a lot over the years. It has always seemed to me to be a console that was terribly mishandled by Sega. It was supposed to be Next Gen but seemed to mostly have games that were just slightly better versions of something that could be found on 16-bit systems. That makes me think the hardware was never fully taken advantage of.

For those of you who know a lot more about the tech than I do, how would it have gone if a developer had tried to make a game like Resident Evil, Tomb Raider or Metal Gear Solid for the system? (If storage is a concern, let's allow for the fact that the 32X could work with the Sega CD.)

In the right hands, was the 32X capable of pulling off games like that, even if the graphics had to be stripped down somewhat? If so, why do you think we never saw such games?

Stellar Assault (Shadow Squadron) will always be one of my favorite games ever

It's hard to think of many other games I enjoy playing as much as this one. Only 4 levels and a very even challenge. Amazing music, and of the time graphics. It's the controls that get me the most. It's so much fun to play, and such an enjoyable experience. My favorite 32x title next to Blackthorne

Tempo for Sega 32X – My First Video Review! Thoughts and Feedback Appreciated

Hello everyone! After years of loving retro games, I finally decided to create my first video review, and I chose Tempo for the Sega 32X.

The video covers Tempo's gameplay, audio/visual presentation, and its place in Sega’s 32X library. I tried to take a thoughtful approach, and I’d love to hear your feedback on both the video and the game itself!

Feel free to check out the video if you're interested, and let me know how I can improve for future content. Thanks so much for your time!

Question about Doom game with 32X vs SNES.

I was wondering, why do Doom 32X looked better than the SNES? I am not sure about the classic but I'm talking about the new releases of Doom currently, like the Limited Run SNES version and then the 32x's Doom Resurrection 3.1 Is it because of the Super FX 2 vs whatever 32X uses? Could SNES version improve by not using Super FX? Why or why not? Thank you for any technical explanations.

Issue with 32X Artifacting Sega CD

https://imgur.com/a/8GeqNp8

Happens only when:

  • Sega CD game is booted with 32X connected (Does not happen with just GEN + SCD)
  • On boot/BIOS screen
  • After power OFF - Power ON

Issue is reproduced with:

  • A different power connector
  • A different Sega Genesis
  • A different Sega CD
  • A different AV Cable
  • With grounding pins or without

Other notes:

  • Layer processed by Genesis seems affected (Possible 32x Passthrough causing the issue?)
  • 32X games NOT affected.
  • SCD games work normally.
  • Issue seems worse if I turn off power and on quicker vs slower

Suspected issue:

  • The power on sequence of all three consoles might not be perfectly in sync causing potential issues in how memory is read/interpreted by the consoles.

  • Caps? IDK!

  • The issue first happened after I finished Lunar TSS on roughly 20h of gameplay. Might've existed before as I had not powered off then on and or reset after a session.

Any insight on the issue would be appreciated!

Update: The issue stopped for the time being after I swapped the genesis motherboard for another one I had lying around. I've noticed after the swap it takes more time for the SCD to "wake up" with probably points to the first suspected issue. Is it how the 32x was connected? Was it a dirty connector on the 32x? I will never know! Leaving this here in case it happens to anyone else in the future.

A letter to 32X. Camp Near Sega Headquarters, July 14, 1995.

My Very Dear 32X,

Indications are very strong that we shall move in a few days, perhaps to-morrow, into the heat of the console war. Lest I should not be able to plug you in again, I feel impelled to write a few lines that may fall under your screen when I shall be no more.

Our battle may be one of short duration and full of fleeting triumphs, or it may be one of severe conflict and the death of our legacy. Not my will, but Sega’s be done. If it is necessary that I should fall in the marketplace for our cause, I am ready. I have no misgivings about, or lack of confidence in, the war in which we are engaged, and my courage does not halt or falter. I know how the future of gaming now leans upon our victory, and how great a debt we owe to those consoles that went before us—the Master Systems, the Genesis—to lay the foundation of this grand endeavor. And I am willing, perfectly willing, to lay down all my joys in this fight to keep Sega’s dream alive, and to pay that debt.

But, my dear 32X, when I know that with my own joys I lay down nearly all of yours, and replace them in this life with tangled ribbon cables and missed opportunities, it is hard. While the banner of our purpose still floats proudly in the aisles of the game stores, my unbounded love for you struggles fiercely, though uselessly, with my loyalty to our cause.

I cannot describe to you my feelings on this calm summer night, as countless systems around me, many of them preparing for their final retail runs, sleep in the quiet of the warehouses. I am communing with our legacy, with Sega, and with you, as I suspect that obsolescence creeps behind me with its fatal disc drive.

I have sought diligently in my heart for a wrong motive in this campaign—something that would absolve me of sacrificing the happiness of those I loved. But I could not find one. A pure love for Sega’s vision, and for the name of honor that I cherish more than I fear failure, have called upon me, and I have obeyed. 32X, my love for you is deathless. It binds me with mighty cables that only the power of new technology can break; and yet, my drive to succeed in this battle sweeps over me like a strong wind, carrying me forward, even with all those connections, to the battlefield of our competition. The memories of our blissful moments together—the launch day triumphs, the flashes of graphics that dazzled the faithful—come crowding over me, and I feel most deeply grateful to Sega and to you that I have enjoyed them so long.

How hard it is for me to give them up now, and burn to ashes the hopes of future years, when, Sega willing, we might still have lived and gamed together, and seen our games rise to glory on store shelves. I know I have but few claims upon the future, but something whispers to me—perhaps it is the faint hum of your CPU—that we shall be remembered, if not in victory, then at least with fondness. If I do not survive this battle, my dear 32X, never forget how much I believed in you. And when my last cartridge is inserted, it will whisper your name.

Forgive my many faults, and the many flaws I brought into this partnership. How often did I fall short of my promise to support you as you deserved? How gladly would I reset every misstep, to clear every little error screen that marred our journey. But I cannot; I must watch you from the pages of history, while you face the critics with your precious handful of titles, and wait with patient hope till we meet again in the memories of our fans.

But, O 32X, if the consoles that fall can linger in spirit, and flit unseen among the shelves, I shall always be near you—in the flicker of a startup screen, in the hum of a power supply, in your happiest moments and most forgotten games. And if the soft glow of a CRT shines on your plastic, it shall be my light; or if the dust settles on your vents, it shall be my spirit passing by.

32X, do not mourn for me; think that I am gone, and wait for me, for we shall be together again—in nostalgia, in YouTube retrospectives, and in the hearts of those who remember the war we fought. As for our players, they may never truly know our struggle, but they will remember us as I have remembered you—with unending admiration.

Farewell, my beloved 32X. I wait for you in the halls of memory. Come to me, and let us find peace.

—Sega Genesis

Does Knuckles Chaotix work on M2 Mk-1631?

Hi, I've been really interested in picking up Knuckles Chaotix for my 32x. The problem is I've been hearing the game has a lot of problems working on certain model 2's. Is there a way to know if it will work on mine? Or is it just random? Thanks.
