Game Gear was Sega's entry into the handheld market. Nintendo's Game Boy was dominating the market, but Sega entered with a portable, color, and backlit version of it's 8-bit home console, MasterSystem. Having Sonic the Hedgehog blast on to portables is just the thing that many gamers had been waiting for!

Repro cart PCBs

I've remade most variants of GG cart PCBs, and I'm planning to make a universal replacement aswell. would anyone be interested in buying these if I had them produced? they would be almost identical to the original, like this image. If so, would you rather have each exact clone available or one universal board that wouldn't look as identical to your original board?

Is my Gamegear and games collection worth anything?

Hi all

I am sorting out my house and found this relic hidden away! It gave me a good nostalgia hit.

I turned it on and as you can see from the picture it still works but the screen is broken.

I have 15 games to go with it, if anyone wants to know specifically what games then let me know.

Thanks in advance.

I'm doing some trace repair on a VA4 around C38/C39. Anyone willing to share a picture of their VA4 there so I can verify or rectify my fix?

A new toy arrived today. It's the Aliexpress screen mod. I try my best to make a tutorial for you guys interested in this thingy. It's half the price of the other known modes, but it lacks the screen options/mods those do offer. However, the image is great.

What next?

I replaced the caps on the main board and here's where I'm at. Should I try the power board next? Or is it clear that a new screen is needed?

Replacement Dpads question

Do any cut guides to make the retrosix dpad work with the ball bearing version? I just prefer the feeling of that one, and none of the other ones that already fit with my original rubber pads don't come in the color I want.

Update: after 9 months of struggle, I can finally play Tesserae

Finally restored my only working Game Gear, whose screen crapped out on me 9 months ago after being shelved for less than a year. I wanted to play Tesserae... had to wait. Until now!!! New LCD installed and looking glorious.

Recently re-joined the GG club

When I was a kid I had a GG with 2 games and now 20 years later I was hit with nostalgia and a good deal.

The game gear works fine, but the screen is kind of really scuffed. I did a quick Google and stumbled upon 2 solutions. 1 is just replace the whole screen with 3rd party, wich I'm scared of fearing it might devalue console in future, and 2, use something called Plastx.

What is the general consensus between the experts around here regarding what's best? Is changing screen perfectly acceptable without losing any future value? Is Plastx really the way to go?

Are game gear's 100% region free? Like will a JP only game work on a PAL Game Gear? (Specifically Donald no Magicalworld).

Hi everyone, this might be quite a generic question but I want to get a game gear so I can get Donald no Magicalworld on Game Gear but the game is Japan only, so I just want to make sure the Game Gear is 100% region free as it is not a very cheap game. I heard that if you put this specific game in a NA Game Gear it translates into english but I just wanted to make sure if like, the same would happen on a PAL game gear. Thank you so much. :)

20$ (supposedly) faulty GG is working just fine lol, even sound. It may sound great, but where is my recapping excitement!!?? I always get a dopamine burst when I manage to fix them after a recap. Well, it still needs a recap since the screen isn't the brightest.

game gear ips from ali express wont work

https://imgur.com/a/VUMXzOQ

my game gear wont work after installing ali express lcd i thought it was cause i accidentally turned it on without noticing a couple caps had their lead bent off the solder but i reconnected them and still has this issue. did i fry some chip or somthing? i even tried ordering a whole new kit but clearly was a waste of money cause it still does this
