Thought experiment, not saying it's realistically possible but the chances are greater than 0%. Steph, Draymond, and LBJ have this conversation, and agree that it is all of their best path forward.
Draymond is the easy one, he gets not traded if he accepts a bench role for the next two years and a handshake that he will retire and not exercise his prayer option.
LBJ I this is in the middle, he accepts a max for the next two years, then retirement, possibly a player option for the last year to give the possibility of adding other players because he doesn't need money. Bronny comes along for whatever rings happen. His biggest involvement is to do his LeGM thing with the Lakers to make his price manageable.
Steph is the hard one, because this basically means early retirement to get this and two more seasons as competitive years. It's a handshake with LBJ that they go down together. Is it worth it? Can we offer him ownership? Can LBJ offer him ownership in the Vegas expansion team we know he's been offered? At least ownership in the Valkyries?
I think Kerr is going to retire in that same timeline and wouldn't mind putting a set date on it and going for what would at least be an epic farewell tour.
I think our FO, Kerr, and Draymond are over the moon at this. What do you think it takes to get Steph and LBJ on board? And what does the trade look like? Are there enough pieces to make the trade work and give a real shot this year? Once free agency opens I have no doubt a reasonable merc squad could be constructed for the next two years given the star power but this year's competitiveness can't be overlooked.
Look, I know it didn’t end well for him here. But has he been bitten by the “grass isn’t always greener on the other side” bug?
I also don’t think he’s a great fit to help win now, but if we are real, this squad is a long way out from that and if we can’t win, let me have the nostalgia of watching the squad go out together. I think there is a package that could bring him home and let him and Steph ride out together.
Yes, I know I’m dreaming, but a fun hypothetical from someone who legit misses that dude.
mavs was set to be contenders for a decade. this is luka doncic we are talking about, not just some all star, but a generational one.
they are in a win-now and win-in-future scenario and in an instant, they traded their franchise player to an all star that is easily injured and is already 30s
no disrespect to AD, but him and kyrie are unlikely to win a championship. i just don't see it. one injury to either of them and nico harrison's vision instantly collapses. and just like that - the mavs are not in a better place.
spurs got fox while kings got lavine and bulls got some. this one was requested by fox himself.
to put it in perspective, luka got traded without his knowledge, and fox got traded as per his request. mavs in shambles, kings in rebuilding - again.
culture is important to win championships, and the warriors have invested on that. sure, the F.O may had their own fuck-ups but a championship cannot be won without a little help of the organization itself. they paid klay after getting injured, they paid green even after his antics, they paid curry even in his near 40s - this is how they want to thank the core trio.
it's also important to consider that trades are definitely and always consulted with dray and curry. you think these two have no influence over the org? if you think none, ya'll are wrong
a trade not happening only means that curry didn't wanted it and dray too.
Paul George - in year one of a potentially disastrous max deal. Maybe one of the most negative assets in the league right now. Very, very lucky he's not on the GSW roster.
Lauri Markkanen - also took a pretty big step back this year. A couple of bad months away from that contract entering negative territory. Do you think having this version of him would have really helped the Warriors fortunes much this season and beyond the way Steph is aging? Ainge wanted the entire cupboard of draft picks for a #2 or #3 on a contending team.
Zach Lavine 2024 - Not trading for Chris Paul and spare parts for Zach Lavine in the offseason? Yeah no defense here lol. Though in fairness, no one wanted Zach Lavine for free.
Zach Lavine 2025 - They were outbid plain and simple. For a team in the position the Bulls are in, the Warriors didn't have anything as valuable to offer as a high draft pick in this year's loaded class. There is a super high premium on tanking teams controlling their own draft destiny these days. I don't think the Bulls wanted to wait until 2030 or for a possibility of a decent pick from GSW.
Ok that's all I got. Come cope with me, brothers.
Sink
I am genuinely tired. Every single year that has had significant players up for grabs, we never make any moves. I can understand making some moves for stars and they don't work out but making no significant moves year after year and we expect Steph to keep carrying this pathetic ass team.... 2022 was a god send. I am tired of how pathetic the fo has been to Steph. Can't even give him a competent roster or a second scoring option to keep the team competitive. I'm tired boss, I'm tired.
We often call the current team a play-in team, but there is now a strong chance they won’t even make the play in this year.
The Spurs, Kings, and Mavs will likely push the dubs out.
My expectations for the rest of the season are pretty low at this point I’m looking forward to seeing the young guys like Gui, Post, Moody, JK, Podz get some run and whatever magic Steph has left. I’ll be traveling to see them live in San Antonio in March which hopefully be fun.
That being said, next year, they gotta get Curry some help or let him go. I know he’s had a helluva career but it’s a tough watch for him, and he seems less ok with it every day.
Is there even a chance to load up next year for a final push?
How Sacramento ended up with Lavine is a kick in the nuts to the organization.
I really hope that IF we somehow trade for Butler that it does not include Wiggins (not sure if it’s mathematically possible).
But maybe there’s something else out there. How the lakers keep getting superstars for NOTHING is just so incredibly agitating.
This roster can’t maintain!
What’s our best bet out there????? HELP!!!!
They really setting the warriors back decades. 🤣it’s insane we couldve had so many players they could’ve been traded in the future for a reset but we kept podz and jk. The way they are currently the warriors WILL NOT be getting another ring. I LOVE CURRY HATE TO SEE THIS HAPPEN TO HIM
Bring on the downvotes. We are a year removed from Jimmy leading the Heat to the finals 27/7/6 with 1.8 steals a game and 0.6 blocks. This is over 22 games in the playoffs. The dude constantly has shown up in the playoffs.
Further, he's made every team he's been on better. Minny made their first playoff run in over a decade with Butler, Sixers pushed 2019 raptors to 7, and Miami went to finals TWICE.
Steph has 2-3 years left anyways, and Jimmy gives you a better chance than Wiggins does. Its the truth, you are letting your love for an awesome third option cloud your judgement about giving Steph the best chance to compete.
They might not even make the play-in with Wiggs as the second option. And hey if Jimmy doesn't work, you have 60 MILLION IN CAP SPACE.
Lavine has a trade kicker which counts to the salary matching, making the 5 for 1s being proposed not viable. trading wiggins + more for lavine is a lateral move at best
Schroeder couldn't of been traded until February 5th, so if we wanted to get Zach it would've been Wiggins instead. Hopefully something opens up and we get someone like cam Johnson for cheap
(The FO is shit I'm saying we shouldn't blame them for the Lavine situation)
All these trades happening around the league and we have a front office that is not willing to trade for anyone or make any moves! FRUSTRATING!
You have teams not afraid of losing De'Aaron Fox, Luka Doncic, or Zach Lavine then you have other teams that are afraid of losing Brandin Podziemski, Trayce Jackson Davis and Moses Moody. They're telling us exactly what they want to do with Steph's career
Town Biz!
Never forget that the current Mavs GM, Nico Harrison, formerly a Nike exec, is the same dude who fumbled the bag so hard in a meeting with Steph Curry that he’s basically Under Armour’s recruitment MVP.
