Ainโt no way Kuzma is a good fit, lmao, whoever made this post is delusional
What will it take for GSW to trade for Jakob Poeltl? He looks great at defense and offense.
I know Lonzoโs stats this season arent great and heโs coming off an injury, but we would get a real backup point guard (sorry Pat ๐) who can defend, push the pace, run the offense, and space the floor. It would also allow BP to play more as a 2 , which I think heโs better at than PG. He says he feels completely healthy, and heโs looked good recently vs Memphis ( +16 in 18 minutes, 1 block 6 assists 2-4 from 3) and Orlando ( +7 in 15 minutes, 4 steals 2 blocks, 2-3 from 3).
I've seen enough. Moody sucks, Kuminga sucks. When Pat Spencer is taking minutes from you, it's time to cut these dudes. Dunleavy needs to bring back Wanamaker, Cory Joseph, and Anthony Lamb so Kerr can run his favorite guys
Starters PG - Steph SG - Buddy SF - Wiggs PF - Dray C- Trayce
Bench PG - BP SG - Moody SF - Kuminga PF - Kyle G - Loondog
Hybrid PG - Steph SG - Wiggs SF - Kuminga PF - Dray C - Loondog
Why do we even have draft picks anymore? I donโt think itโs necessary that Kerr be great at player development, but if we know he is going to give these young guys a short leash in favor of his โveteranโ short guys (Wanamaker/Chiozza/Ty Jerome/Corey Joseph/Pat Spencer most recently), why have we not traded them in for upgrades at various positions?
It didnโt really matter much in the dynasty years when we used our end-of-first-round picks in spot minutes and they didnโt develop into much (Bell/Evans/Mccaw), but having Wiseman, JK, and Moody all in the lottery and not having developed any at this point is disappointing to say the least. We should ignore the revisionist history that these were bad picks because at the time of drafting they all made a lot of sense. Wisemanโs upside and positional fit were great, JKโs athleticism too appealing after falling to 7, and you canโt really argue with drafting a 3&D guy with Moodyโs length.
But their time here has been anything but smooth, and itโs clear that what the coaching staff wanted out of them is very different than what kind of players they actually are. Wiseman definitely flashed some nice offense in his rookie year (probably starting because of front office shenanigans), but showed a lack of positioning on defense and rebounding which Kerr clearly values a lot more in our system. In my opinion this soured him more on giving young guys more run, and Wisemanโs injuries combined with us proving we could win a championship without most of the young picks in 2022 basically ruined his chances during his time here with us (Iโll get to Poole party later).
Then we have JK, whose strength is going downhill, but again the coaching staff highly prioritizes 3pt spacing and playing 0.5 second basketball. For good reason, Kerrโs motion offense has always primarily involved creating off ball opportunities with guards that can shoot, but weโve lacked wrinkles that get our wings going downhill. I hated this the year we had Wiggins/Oubre/Bazemore who clearly struggled more with the system, and Kerr didnโt adapt our offense or simplify it to get more simple drive and kicks. Thank god Maple Jordanโs 3pt shot got more reliable and heโs able to produce with less touches, but outside of Durantโs isos and Iggyโs general bbiq weโve never had forwards that who had clear spots they could get to reliably in our offense. At some point, you either have to adapt to the talent you do have or trade to get the personnel you want.
With Moody we all know heโs in the doghouse. Sure we can nitpick his 3 minutes yesterday, but at this point I canโt really fault him, and JK on some level, for not having a consistent role and minutes. Add to that the looming threat of being benched for mistakes while Kerr opts to go to his bag of 2-way players, I canโt really see how this is a great environment for young guys to thrive in. You would think Moodyโs archetype is the easiest to find minutes for, but Kerr has always shown a bias for ball handling short guys (like Podz) which I will never understand. We run a heavy motion offense with few pnrโs, is it really that important to have a guy bring up the ball to make an entry pass?
Wanamaker is definitely my least favorite all time of Kerrโs go-to vets whose leash was way too long. He started the year ahead of Poole in the rotation, and I want to dispute the idea that Poole magically got a lot better in the G-league. JP got very few inconsistent minutes when he got sent down, and it was with injuries and Kerrโs desperation to try out him and Nico Mannion that finally gave Poole the time on the court he needed. JP was the exception to our development practices, and he had to literally force his way into the lineup with how hot he was.
Now I honestly love all the young guys and I still believe Wiseman/JK/Moody/JP can be great, but from this track record I donโt see how they or any other young guys coming through here can become their selves with us. Kerr deserves praise for bringing us 4 rings, but if he refuses to use our young guys or adapt to the talent we have, whatโre we even doing? Just let them flourish elsewhere and get Kerr the players he prefers. We donโt have Klay anymore, Draymondโs playmaking in the offense is overstated when we sparingly run him in the short roll with Steph, and everyone knows the off ball action going on while he holds the ball at the top of the key.
You can say Iโm being reactionary but we started off hot from three against weaker teams this season, and I fail to see enough diversity on offense. At least in 2022, OPJ was consistent and healthy, Bjelica spaced the floor and made great passes (miss this guy so much, played much better on defense in the finals than expected), and of course JP gave us our three headed monster at the guard position offensively. If Kerr wants to double down on his offense and perspective on young guys, MDJ needs to accommodate that, for both the Warriors benefit and the young guys.
The opposing team being able to keep the ball out of Stephโs hands just once or twice and this might qualify as this teamโs worst nightmare.
14.5 salary. Melton+ a bench player. The man can get buckets. Thought?
