Hi there! I know everyone loves to go to all the fancy houses on West Boulevard but remember that there are houses in your own neighborhood eagerly awaiting trick or treaters. We don’t want to eat 100 mini Snickers on our own!
Had the chance to cruise around RC a bit tonight, noticed a few new places. Zen Hills & Pure Fox are a couple new businesses on Main. From their website, Zen Hills looks to be an interesting shop and, while I haven't had the chance to check it out yet in person, looks pretty cool. Pure Fox is a boutique clothing shop / experience store at 605 Main, just down from Zen Hills. A couple blocks East, Whimsicle and Wild Mercantile looks to carry home decor and some fashion wear also.
Out in Black Hawk, Brunchies is set to open soon; they're in the space next to BJ's in Black Hawk and are focusing on breakfast & lunch items.
Speaking of Black Hawk, I saw a sign for the Black Hawk Volunteer fire department's Pancake feed, Nov 2nd from 4p to 7p. Good food with the proceeds to help out the department. (I missed the Rapid Valley one on Oct 10th.) I love a good fundraiser dinner- if you know of one, post it up, please.
And, if you're a wine person, you might want to hit Prairie Berry Winery soon- per their website, they're closing around the end of the year.
Anything else new, add it here... Thanks.
Recently moved to rapid city, since my partner is in the Air Force. Looking for a side gig as a chef consultant for restaurants or dining facilities. 12+ years in the food and beverage industry. Last 5yrs was an executive chef and special event manager for the marines working with high ranking officials and contractors. Would any food and beverage company here need any assistance. Food experience is mostly in pacific rim cuisine also small cafes and bakeries as well.
Best soups you’ve found in town?
ISO Good soup, feels like it’s from your momma/ granny/ auntie…
Panera Bread is not an acceptable answer!
Over the last couple years there was a gentleman walking along Sturgis road waving to all the morning traffic. He walked against the flow of traffic around 7AM or so.
I have not seen him in a few months and was just wondering if anyone knows where he went, or if he changed up his routine.
Is it still going to happen this year?
It's bad enough with how few people use their turn signal but WOW so many people driving without headlights tonight. It's about people seeing you including tail lights.
My fiancés sister is looking to move to Rapid in December as she recently got accepted to the nursing program here.
Her and her boyfriend have 2 cats and 1 dog. Is anyone aware of apartments, townhomes, etc for rent that are pet friendly?
Halloween in Thurs night, and it might be a bit cold and/or wet for Trick or Treat folk. So... where's the best places to get a lotta loot in a short span. West Blvd is great- where else is open for business?
As I type this, I understand it might sound silly to some…
We know nothing about the hospitals in the area, and if I’m honest I have a distrust in American medical. I’d prefer an experience with little medical intervention except for emergencies. Apparently places are pretty backed up right now so I likely won’t be seen until a little later than normal. Our insurance and family dr are waiting for whatever is available to refer me. That brings me little peace of mind, so here I am to ask… What can I expect from the hospitals or OB/GYNs in the area? Any birthing center experiences? Trusted midwives or doulas in the area?
Eastbound Cheyenne Blvd (off of Elk Vale Rd, in front of Black Hills State University) is in pretty bad disrepair. There are serious dips and potholes, and it's so bad that nearly half of the vehicles I've observed would rather drive in the center lane than go over the dips.
I reported the issue on the city's Pot Hole or Street Damage website and sent them an email and a follow-up, but I have heard nothing back. Not even an acknowledgement of receipt.
Is there a better way to go about doing this? Thanks!
Update: Pennington County told me it's not in their jurisdiction. I also heard back from Rapid City today. Here's their message:
"We are aware of the road condition. Right now we are in the process of filling any open patches in the 1800 miles of roads we maintain before winter sets in.
I doubt we will have time to do much with Cheyenne before the asphalt plants close in 3-4 weeks. It is on our list of work and we hope to get some of it done in the spring."
I was just wondering if is there any places that give Rock away for free or really cheap? I probably need 40 to 50 yards worth. TIA
Sat night, the Cars & Coffee car group hosted their annual Cars & Candy. 60 cars this year and, from what I heard, over 100,000 pieces of candy given out (and Mountain Dew?) Looked like the families were having a good time, even though I couldn't stay long. High Fives to Cars & Coffee folk; what a cool event for Halloween.
I can't believe I have to mention this as it should just be common sense. We've been seeing a couple of electric motorcycles driving around on the bike path. They almost hit my wife recently.
I saw them today while out on a run. It was a man and woman each on a small electric motorcycle. They were coming down on the bike path that runs through the Founders Village area, and then they got on the main bike path in Founders Park. And as it happens my wife, who was walking in Founders, had another close call as they raced through the park.
Electric vehicles like this are flat out illegal on sidewalks in Rapid City. We took their picture but they were not close for a good photo. If the chance arises, please get a photo and share with the police. They've been speeding through parks and sooner or later someone will get hurt.
CLARIFICATION: there seems to be some confusion about what is illegal here. A bike with a throttle is illegal. A bike with pedal assist is not illegal as long as it complies with the laws. The bikes I am very specifically calling out here are electric motorcycles with a throttle. I may not care for some pedal-assist bikes that go too fast on the bike path, but most people on them are not causing problems.
There is a man in the parking lot of the Planet Fitness. He is playing live music right now. I cannot comprehend this but I felt I had to share it...
Do I have to go to the polling location in my precinct, or can I go to any polling location?
Hi everyone! We are moving from MN and of the school year and I have two elementary age kids. What are some good schools in the area and do you know where I can find a map of the school zones?
Thanks in advance!!
What should I know?
I’ve been home-growing cannabis since 2018 and have developed extensive knowledge of the plant and its cultivation. My goal is to help Rapid City and the South Dakota community stay informed and up to date on cannabis growing techniques, as well as provide general insights about the plant. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your skills, I’m here to share my expertise.
Anyone know why? They have a great location and Winery. This is sad. I really enjoy going to Miner and the Winery.

Went to give louies a chance. Great place. Great staff, great service and great food. Price was great as well. Sadly it was pretty empty. I hope business picks up for them. Our drinks were never empty but we werent overwhelmed with attention either. Very attentive while letting us have food and conversation. Our server let us know about other options like breakfast burritos and the very large burgers. Special was steak tips. My family was happy that i chose louies to try. We will definately go again. If looking for something a couple steps above fastfood but less then a steakhouse this is the place. Service is better then steakhouse service in my opinion. Im not sure but i think it was louie himself that came to check on us during our meal. Stop in. I think you will be delighted with how things go.
Hi guys, after nearly 5 years of working on the game, I can confidently say that we have completed the Alpha stage of development and will be moving to the next phase - Which is making more content for the game and completing the game!
I know we've taken ages for a game this small, but we worked on a shoestring budget and got through so many challenges, both development and personal. I lost my dad last year and that hurt a lot because I really wanted him to see me finish the game..
Anyway, we are going to keep going until the game is done, regardless if we find funding or not.
So here's the link to our playtest stage on Steam. Hope you enjoy it and don't forget to wishlist!

And thanks to everyone who shared their knowledge and experience of Rapid City with me!
Add to this list if you know of any new places that have opened in the last month or so:
Philly Teds downtown is gone; Dakota Meats has opened a deli / meat market in the old Teds location adjacent to the parking garage.
Uncle Lewie's Diner at the Uptown Mall where Fuddruckers used to be. Fairmont Diner now has a second location, where Morningside Diner was (on LaCrosse street next to Lacrosse street casino). Beau's Campbell Street Diner where Campbell Street Cafe was.
Mr Liquor's new place should be opening shortly. BIG new store on Stumer Rd, near W'mart South.
Anyone else experiencing ear issues and headaches recently. Has there been significant pressure changes?
