So a little background, I work for a library that has a VR system available for patrons to try out in house. We have a Vive Cosmos in good working condition but the PC it's connected to is out of warranty and incompatible with Windows 11. Our IT department is looking into options for replacing either the PC, the headset, or both and I am trying to field questions for them (they aren't very familiar with VR tech).
My questions (and theirs) is this: Is it possible to access and play the games we have in our Steam Library on the HTC Vive Elite XR without a PC? From what I've read online the Elite XR can be used as a standalone device, but it's unclear if it will only access games from viveport while standalone.
Also, would the standalone Elite still be able to stream footage to a monitor or similar without a PC tower?
So I waited on the streaming cable to expect it to be able to charge while wired and also not be on Wi-Fi while connected. Both were missed opportunities. I expected the controllers to talk to the headset and then information once connected via cable to be passed through the usb-c cable.
Am I doing something incorrectly? It's still showing it on wifi and lagging after I had to find a 2.0 usb port for it to take all the updates. I even went and matched Vive and Steam to 90hz since Steam still only has the option for 90hz. I have my bitrate set to the lowest, I dont live super close to others (wifi), I can setup an eeros for its own network but...come on, for this pricetag man. I'm set to TCP transmission mode, changed graphics to balanced with a 3090 setup that was top of the line like 2.5 years ago (shouldnt be an issue)
Can they did some updates for data to pass through the cable later and charge the headset (probably not) would be great if they could.
When I calibrate in open Play space, my waist tracker appears very distant from my ankle trackers. Like, it thinks my waist and feet are about 30 feet apart from each other.
If I calibrate using foot tracker, they appear appropriately but then my waist appears 30 feet away. If calibrating using the waist tracker, the feet appear 30 feet behind me.
What could resolve this issue ? I am very near returning. Thank you
I use a Quest 3 with Oculus Link, and wanted to know some things about the Ultimate trackers to see if they're any good.
Will they work with my setup?
How long can they last until the battery dies?
How is the tracking quality compared to three 3.0 trackers and two 2.0 Base Stations?
I have an MSI Katana GF76 with the 3050Ti, I know it has the power to run it but I don't know if I'm able to plug in the htc vive into my pc. My HDMI port is connected to my integrated graphics card and not my 3050Ti. Would using Nvidia's PhysX with the setting to have the gpu boost rendering work or is it not worth buying the headset. My HDMI port also allows for 4k res so I don't know if that means anything.
finally got my og vive working and want a couple solid games.
Or can it be omitted while seated at a PCVR sim, for example? Simply to eliminate the weight I guess. Can anyone here try it?
I'm on 1.21.1 and using the Forge launcher, all I need is to turn on that VR button
but gives me this error instead:
Render setup failed: Installation path could not be located (110)
VR provider: OpenVR_LWJGL
I remember someone accidentally threw their controller and then couldn't find it. They posted photos of the room and we all guessed where to look, but no luck last I remember. There was an open window that I think was the prime suspect but for some reason the OP thought it was unlikely, I think.
Anyone remember? Was there an update? Was it found?
I remember that thread occationally and just wondered.

So, a handful of months ago, I posted here regarding advice about some graphical artifacts on my Vive 1.0, and many people helped with suggestions that it was a cable issue, and moving the cables about might help. I'm thankful for the advice.
Unfortunately the situation has progressed and worsened, and I require advice once more. The green dots and lines have intensified, and often I'll have this... "Broken CRT monitor" style warping, with my headset occasionally turning on and off. Last night, it turned off, and didn't turn back on again. Not even SteamVR acknowledges the HMD's existance anymore.
I want to see if it's still a cable issue. First of all, is this sort of "CRT-monitor-being-punched" visual warping still indicative of a cable issue? If the answer is unclear, I've noticed that the connection between my HMD and the link box are just a HDMI cable, a USB cable, and something that looks a little bit like a laptop power cord. Is it possible to plug my VR set in via normal HDMI/USB/etc cables? Or is that a bad idea?
Thanks in advance.
Hi guys,
I'm a student at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences in Austria. The topic for my masters thesis is "Ergonomics of Head-Mounted Displays" (HMDs). I'm searching for someone who would like to give a short interview regarding their stance on XR/AR/MR/VR Technology. The interview will be about 30 minutes max.
I'm looking for people that use HMDs in their daily life and/or over extended periods of time. Gamers, tech enthusiasts and also specifically people that use HMDs in professional settings. (e.g. 3D Modelling, Animation, Training, etc...)
If you are an experienced user of HMDs and would like to tell your opinion or if you even just want to help out a student an fellow redditor, please send me a DM.
Many Thanks!
Edit: This account is pretty new bc i want to keep my private stuff separate from uni.
Limited-time deal: HTC Vive Pro 2 Headset Only https://a.co/d/5PShNMw
Is there a list of supported games for the HTC VIVE Tracker? I have ordered 3 of them and have just realised that apparently almost no games are supported. I was interested in Arizona Sunshine 2, Arizona Sunshine Remake and Pavlov VR.
Now I'm thinking about sending the trackers back. There's no point in keeping them.
I wanted to change the power managment mode of desktop windows manager but i couldent because they were all grayed out and i know for a fact that it is in adaptive mode
I had a vive cosmos that had been working for a year or so with no apparent issues at all. One day my graphics card died so I need to find a new one and ended up switching from my old AMD to a Nvidia card, plugged the whole headset setup back in and it always just says it's turning on and that it can't be detected and that there's C102: Bootup error (9) I don't know how to fix it I've tried getting new cords, updating drivers, getting rid of them and redownloading, redownloading the vive console, almost everything.
So up until this year I had perfect vision with functioning eyes that could do amazing things like focus at different distances on its own.
I have since had cataract surgery and my vision is now fixed at a specific distance and need glasses for other distances. Unfortunately the distance of my naked eye now is NOT the correct distance to see the Pro 2's screen with perfect clarity. So I will need some sort of correction which I will order from the VR prescription lens people.
But first I need to know - if anyone does know - what is the correct focal length for this thing?

This might sound stupid but I brought a HTC VIVE Focus plus and I also brought the Vive subscription. But I tried for hours and can’t get it to connect to my laptop and run steam games. I have SteamVR but can anyone teach me how to set up the VR headset?
I've been trying to find info on how to best combine face tracking and full-body tracking for VRChat, but it's been tough to find anything that really dives into using them together, at the end of the day I want great facetracking with great fullbody to dance and to express myself as well as I can with my face!
If any of you have experience with different setups or have suggestions on the best combination of hardware for this, I’d love to hear your thoughts! I already have a PC, so I’m mainly looking for solutions that don’t require extra hardware I won’t use (no need to pay extra for features I don’t need)
Would really appreciate any input or recommendations you have on this!
Hello!
Recently got Vive ultimate trackers got them setup and they were working fine last night but when i use them now they appear connected and ready i calibrate my waist tracker but then it only shows up if i calibrate a foot tracker my waist one disappears and only my foot ones are there.
i get my controller jittering around sometimes when i crouch or reach down low, base stations should be in easy reach only a small space and good angle. i think its body block.
worth getting a third one to triangulate, or not?
I have really nowhere to go for this, so figured posting on reddit would be a good decision. I've been having issues with my vive facial tracker, bought from a second part. It works, but only for like 3 frames ever 1-2 seconds. It is INSANELY choppy. I've flipped the usb, and both sides produce the same results. Vive SRanipal shows the facial tracker as green. I bought a new cable, and that seemed to have fixed some of it(gives more accurate facial expressions) but it's still suuuper choppy. I use this with my vive pro eye, and the eye tracking seems to be doing great. When I use the facial tracker on my valve index, it works alright aswell...
Hi, I've been having this issue where my Vive Cosmos Elite will automatically show a black screen when the headset moves specifically downward. Just the screen will turn black, the games I'm playing are still running, all my trackers are still tracking, and I can see the game on my monitor the same as if I didn't have a black screen. What's weird is that when it turns black the headset sounds like it's violently shutting down because I hear a tick and see an error line inside the headset for a split second. When I jump up and move left/right the headset rarely shows this black screen but as soon as the headset physically moves down it blanks. Is there any fix to this?
So i got the the ultimates like a month or so ago and i LOVE them. and before anyone w vive 3.0 comes around saying 3.0 is better and i should get that instead, 1) the tracking quality is hardly any difference 2) im not tryna look like a bum w them cameras set up in my room. but recently i been having issues where my tracker will be super offset. i use 5 and lets say 4 will be connect and tracking where they should be and then there'll be one that is like a foot or two off of where it should be. if i try recalibrating it it recalibrates that one and the other four are now all a foot or two off. secondly, sometimes theres a lost tracking issue and when i walk around my space with the tracking pointing outwards from my chest it wont track, and if i turn it off, another tracker will say lost tracking, if i turn that one off, another and it keeps going till i turn off all my trackers and turn them all on again just for them all to have lost tracking. my rooms really well lit so it isnt a lighting issue and ive got enough on the my walls and furniture for the trackers to be able to map out the area, ive been using them flawlessly but recently they been giving me a LOT of issues-
Hello, I bought a pair of vive wands secondhand because my first pair were no longer holding a charge and I didn't feel like setting my hands on fire.
These new controllers worked well for a while, but suddenly the orange charging indicator began flickering when I had them plugged in, and they refuse to charge. How would I go about getting them fixed?
I am very new to body-tracking VR. Before I make a really big purchase, I want to make sure I have everything down so I don't waste my money and have to send stuff back. Can anyone just confirm with me that I am buying the right stuff?
I just got a Quest 3,
I was about to get 2x SteamVR Base Station 2.0's,
And I am going to get x6 Vive tracker 3.0's
On the catalogue page at Vive's main website, they offer "Wide" and "Narrow" face cushions at $50 a pop. The issue is there is no indication what "Wide" and "Narrow" means... A difference of a quarter inch, three inches, nine and three-sixteenths feet, what? The page for the VFV itself isn't much help either, which I guess isn't much of a surprise.
If they were cheaper I'd consider buying one of each, but at $50, that's too much. Has anyone else figured this out?
Help me please Reddit 🙏 I bought my very own HTC Vive not that long ago and got my PC fixed so I could play it. However, when IV plugged everything in, installed drivers and gone through all the set up. My Head set isn't able to be recognised through steam vr and also has a red light
Now, I spend Hours trying to trouble shoot this problem, From enabling direct mode, Checking my cables, switching cables, restarting and re installing everything but to no avail..
There was this one time I restarted the vive guide and steam vr finally recognised my head set but my headset was still Black and had that light and eventually went back to not recognising the headset (error 108)
I'm lost, confused and quite pissed on how to fix this.
I was an early adopter of the vive and got the first edition that came out, (and never even got a wireless adapter which of course I can't find anywhere now!) I unexpectedly came into a bit of money and after being responsible and paying off debt/saving/investing, I used the last bit to buy it.
I got it in very early 2017 at full price which kinda sucked after they came out with the next gen and dropped the price. But I loved it so much and it got me through a really dark time in my life where my mom passed away.
I have been wanting to upgrade but been finding it hard to justify price of the newer bigger systems, and I find the bigger systems just A LOT for me because I'm in a small apartment and now have a toddler. I got a steamdeck last year which was such a perfect thing for a new mom! I finally got to get back to my PC games and take them around with me. It was really freeing, but also reminded me how much I missed VR.
Since this motherhood change in my life I found I can't use my old headset much anymore. it's just too much work with a toddler around and things get bumped, the cords are in the way and I ended up always having to re-map it.
The advertising for the Vive XR Elite really piqued my interest, the price in Canadian isn't bad at all, no more mapping with the lighthouses. It just seemed really streamlined and a good fit for the casual gaming mom. But when I looked up review they were terrible, saying it's like it's still in beta.
I recently saw they've updated it, and when you buy it the price (1200 Canadian/ 799 USD)) now also includes a bunch of accessories. The reviews on Amazon Canada are all positive except for one, but the star rating is still about 3.5
Is there anyone out there who thinks it's worth it? I am not this person who needs super optimized stuff, I only have the original gen steamdeck and I am fine with that! Oled would be nice, sure, but for my purpose I manage fine. I just wanna play some standard VR games. I'm casual gamer!
Do we think they're going to do another gen of this particular device? I was holding off for so long in case they did. This seems to have been the only update so far.
Would love to hear from folks who actually used it :)
