Walls, ICBMs and Jaegers: What about Rods From God!?

How much money do you think went into the walls, the jaeger program, and the used ICBM/nukes expended early on in the Kaiju war?

Imagine if, instead, the countries united to make a series of attack satellites in Lower Earth Orbit. Two or even 3 orbital rings along the oceans and countries most affected by Kaiju, with enough satellites to ensure they had overlap of range to ensure in larger attacks, two satellites could drop rods.

ā€œWhat rods?ā€

Glad you asked. Tungsten rods dropped from space and guided by simple, low energy rockets can effectively have the impact of a nuke, with none of the radioactive fallout or the need for explosive munitions!

Essentially the force of gravity is weaponized. And because these satellites are in space? The Kaiju themselves would have no hope of reaching them without developing extremely advanced organic parts capable of shooting a satellite. Good luck!

And sure, the Precursors could either attack from space or innovate space capable Kaijuā€¦ but they would need to have INSANE reflexes to dodge a projectile capable of one-shotting it. And Iā€™m fairly confident standard aircraft could likely shred any unarmored wings, especially with proper weapon modifications over time. Imagine something like the A10 Warthog and the AC-130, overhauled with the type of gear we see on Jaegers. Fast attack jets could be ideal distractions to keep enemy Kaiju from focusing on the slower aircraft. Long range scanning aircraft like the kind we use to detect ICBM launches would be fantastic for an airborne fleet, primarily for locating the different Kaiju brains, ideally having more situational info during a dogfight.

So I ask you, fellow Jaeger fans

Other than the fact that a movie about satellites and bird dogfights would probably be way less coolā€¦

Why wouldnā€™t the world do something akin to the suggestion in this post?

Why don't Jaegers have spikes on their knuckles?

I see them punching the Kaiju's a lot, so is there a reason why they don't add some extra claw-like thing to do extra damage and to rip and tear up the kaiju?

Pacific Rim: The Black Review

I think I'm probably the only one who thinks this but, The Black was so boring to me lol. The characters were uninteresting (The MC's sister is so annoying idk why lol). The action was alright at best. There weren't any cool Jeagers that I liked, except for maybe Apex. Overall, very forgettable and was a chore for me to get through.

I love Pacific Rim butā€¦

Iā€™ve never seen Uprising.

I love the design language of the first film so much. The giant hulking mechs look like walking skyscrapers. In Uprising they look like 9ft tall generic robots Tony Stark would fight.

The kaiju in Guillermo del Toroā€™s film are so damn cool. Knifehead is among my favorite kaiju ever (pic related). Thereā€™s a sense of cohesion among them and I feel there was a lot of love put into their design. The promotional material for Uprising on the other hand had their monsters feeling more like set pieces.

The characters in the first Pacific Rim are plucky in the best way. It really did feel like a live action anime at times. It was fun and not overly serious when it didnā€™t have to be. No one ā€œannoyedā€ me or felt out of place for the tone of the film.

Should I see Uprising? Am I missing anything in this sequel that I loved about the first film?

Pacific Rim: The Black Season ā€œ3ā€

----Heavy spoilers for Pacific Rim The Black down below----

Howdy folks. I wanna share some things related to Pacific Rim: The Black. I know many arenā€™t a fan of it, and I acknowledge the flaws. However, as someone whoā€™s into japanese anime and into Pacific Rim as well, I ended up loving the anime a lot.Ā

Iā€™ve watched season 1 and 2 three times so far. Iā€™m so sad that it never got season 3 but I understand the reasons. Since season 2 was the last season, the producers had to wrap up quickly within 7 episodes. I thought I would list down some things that could be explored from the previous seasons.Ā

I made this list as I watched the series from the beginning. Iā€™ve listed the following points because I could see them being explored more in future continuations. Iā€™m not necessarily saying season 3, it can be anything. Movie, comic books, hell, season 3! However, nobody knows if there will even be a continuation. So, one can dream.

Iā€™m pretty sure I can list the following list better, but here we go.

1. Consequences of ghost drifting

https://preview.redd.it/6x6momm2s4ge1.png?width=1363&format=png&auto=webp&s=32c2fd6d1be2611c02d37dcf0c107c6c0bc59269

Weā€™ve seen Taylor initiate ghost drift with the memory of Hensen soloing his mech while fighting a kaju. He became good at piloting but at a price of having his memory mixed with Hensenā€™s.Ā

Weā€™ve only seen this price in action once. I think it can be explored more in future continuations. Maybe Taylor suffering from more mixed memory fragments, or him benefiting from Hensenā€™s knowledge in future occurrences. Or maaaybe, the ghost drift can be put into practice again by someone whoā€™s crazy enough to do it?

I know that itā€™s very much a shortcut for a person to be good at piloting a jaeger. But, the practice doesnā€™t have to be successful, should it be done again in the future.Ā

2. Ferno

His name has only been mentioned once in season 1. He seems to be a leader of another group of thriving people who have made trades with the people in Bogan. It would be interesting to see how other people thrive in the barren lands of Australia. Others who are sane, anyway, unlike the Sisters.

3. The jaeger that Loa used to be in

Loa might be gone at the end of season 2, but her legacy lives on. Yes, she did explain her history to Taylor. But Iā€™m greedy. I want to know more about the jaegers she was installed in, the pilots that she assisted, the battle that ended their lives, and how the decision came for her to be placed in Atlas.Ā

4. The b0y's origin

This little guy deserves more exploring. We only know that he was ā€˜foundā€™ wandering in the desert by himself before taken in for research. Marshall Rask mentioned that heā€™s a weapon. Thatā€™s it. Thatā€™s all we know about him.

Where was he born?

How was he born?Ā

Was he born like that?

And other questions that weā€™ll never get the answers to in a while.Ā

5. More of Apex?

Weā€™ve seen in Uprising that it is possible for a drone jaeger to mutate into a jaeger-kaiju hybrid. And in The Black, weā€™ve seen that it is possible for one to have no allegiance.Ā

It doesnā€™t attack humans deliberately like kaijus do, but will defend itself when necessary. It also feeds on kaijus, apparently. Maybe thereā€™s another one out there like Apex? I know Loa mentioned only one drone survived, but what if, ya know?

Hell, maybe someone would be crazy enough to create one.Ā

6. Chaos Nemesis

This is the name of the Jaeger whose arm has been handed to Atlas by Apex. There isnā€™t much info about the jaeger. I think itā€™d be cool to see a hint of the mech in future continuation.

7. Mei's past

https://preview.redd.it/58nt8xups4ge1.png?width=1265&format=png&auto=webp&s=8e517d583fe0f214f6cf1d096aed63a47e5120d5

In season 2, Spyder gave Mei a data key that was handed by Shane. This is her true memory of her past. Since she learnt from Joel that Shane meddled with her childhood memory, Mei doesnā€™t know who she is, who she was, who her parents were, where she came from, all of that.Ā

And now, the answer to all of that is in her possession. And she has yet to see it for herself. I guess many of us want to learn more about her past as well.

8. Kaiju ticks being a threat to kaijus themselves

Weā€™ve seen in the first movie and in the animeā€™s season 2 that a kaiju bug/tick does exist. However, itā€™s only been mentioned in the anime that these buggers are able to take down giant size kaijus themselves, if the numbers are great.Ā

There are also two kinds of kaiju ticks, from my understanding:Ā

  • The kaiju tick: the kind that goes after normal kaijus
  • The hybrid kaiju tick: the kind that goes after hybrid kaijus, who are said to live in the Sistersā€™ territory.Ā

Maybe this can be utilized in future continuations. Who knows, maybe someone smart enough can develop ticks to go after only kaijus to turn the tide?

9. Kaiju coexisting with humans?

This idea mainly originates from Bunyip-Man in season 2, a crazy man crazy enough to live with giant kaijus. Well, the idea certainly isnā€™t far fetched, as the Sisters live among them. Control them, even.Ā

I can see more humans siding up with the kaijus as future villains, even though the idea has been used twice so far: in Uprising and in The Black. Not saying itā€™s boring, but itā€™s certainly something that can be used again.

10. New kaiju species

Acidquill. Ripper. Copperhead. Breacher. The Hybrids. What else can I say? New monsters, new things to be excited for.

11. The Sisters' origin

Who are they exactly? How did they become what they are in the anime series? Why only keep the women as well? I suspect the Precursors would have something to do with the origin of this cult.Ā

I also think that there are still more Sisters out there. More pristess like the main villain of season 2. It would be cool to see the remaining people of PPDC fight against the forces of the Sisters. Or try to bring their members back with the method that Shane used to bring Brina back.

12. Spyder

He just upped and left. He has to be out there somewhere. Encountering him again would certainly be cool.

13. Shane's remaining men and women

The last time we saw them was when Apex was making his way to b0y. Rickter seems to be in charge now. He is far from perfect, but heā€™s Shaneā€™s right hand. I wonder what will become of them.

14. Creating a fake mental environment in a drift

https://preview.redd.it/2brkb2e9t4ge1.png?width=1341&format=png&auto=webp&s=cbad6da15798c3c6591509fb437dc34b485ee407

The strategy that the Travis siblings used to spend the last moments of Brinaā€™s life. The second time I watched the series, I was still caught off guard by that fake mental environment. The fact that they could pull something like that is amazing. Did they also know that they could do something like this?Ā

Itā€™s different from Shaneā€™s method as well, since he explores a mind to ā€˜interrogate.ā€™ But in this instance, Hayley, with the assistance from Loa, creates an imaginary environment for Brina. Iā€™d imagine Loa also played the characters in that scene like puppets onĀ  a puppet show.Ā

I can see this practice being used again in future continuations.

15. Apex using drift to take control/telepath with b0y

https://preview.redd.it/w7nefeigt4ge1.png?width=975&format=png&auto=webp&s=d0b03a080f0f35a9c55d49625ace09e66cadeaf5

Maybe this practice can be used again in future continuation.Ā

I guess itā€™s safe to say that drifting tech has been used for more purposes. Thereā€™s drifting used to explore oneā€™s mind (Shane Interrogating Taylor. An older example would be Newton drifting with a kaiju brain), either directly from a person or from an archive of past jaeger-kaiju brawls (Taylor ghost drifting Hensenā€™s fight). Thereā€™s also drifting used to create imaginary environment (Brinaā€™s death).

16. Breacher

This guy is a cat 6. Who just appeared out of nowhere. There has to be more of him out there.

17. Loa?

Might very well be copium, but I think Loa is still recoverable. Atlasā€™ connpod is still intact after all, as seen in the scene after Loa initiated self-destruct.Ā

18. Sydney base

What facilities does this base accommodate? Just a place for survivors? Or is there a work to carry out the training of cadets as well? Or even to build more jaegers? What do these people do? What has Ford Travis, the father of Travis siblings, been doing in the entire time?

So these are the things that have made an appearance in the two seasons and can be explored more, should there be a continuation. Of course, we arenā€™t limited to the things listed above. The writers can invent something new and fresh. Sydney Base is certainly a good platform for a lot of new things.

New characters. New jaegers. New kaijus. New tech.Ā

In my ideal world, I would want season 3 for the franchineā€™s continuation, obviously. But I am open to any other form.Ā (i even seriously considered making a fanfic to continue season 2 lololol)

Let me know what you think down in the comments. Letā€™s discuss. What do you think of my list? Do you have any other ideas of what else to explore? What do you wanna see in the future?
