My goal: Mom and teenage son in ONE bag (each) for 3 weeks in the Maritimes this Summer

In June my son (14) and I will be flying to Nova Scotia with Air Canada. We'll spend 3 weeks exploring Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. We'll be taking busses between the cities, local transit and sometimes walking about 20 minutes with our luggage. We'll be staying at hotels and dorm rooms and will have access to laundry. My Kiddo is on the autism spectrum, so lots of snacks and fidgets will be packed for him.

My goal is to have the majority of our stuff in ONE bag that I carry (standard that can fit in the overhead bins) and my son can have a small Roots backpack as his personal that fits under the seat.

Backpack (Bugaboo Mountain Equipment, with small zip off daypack)

Mom

*Wear comfy jeans, t-shirt, slip on shoes on flight (I still need a sweater or jacket option)

-6 pairs of period panties (just in case)

-4 pairs of undies

-10 pairs of socks

-flip flops (for showers and beach)

-bathing suit

-towel

-2 pairs of leggings (with a pattern) (can be folded to wear as capri length)

-1 pair of jean shorts

-tunic that goes well with both leggings

-4 t-shirts

-2 short sleeve tops (goes with jeans and jean shorts)

-pyjamas (shorts/t-shirt set) (modest enough for common areas in dorm)

Kiddo

*Wear dark jeans, t-shirt, slip on shoes and sherpa lined fleece on flight

-10 pairs of boxers

-10 pairs of socks

-flip flops (for showers and beach)

-swim trunks

-towel

-3 pairs of shorts

-light green sweatpants

-2 tank tops

-4 t-shirts

Zip off daypack (can go under the seat during flight)

-Wallet

-ID, notebook, pen, activity book…

-water bottle (fill with cold water after security)

-Thermos (fill with HOT water after security)

-toiletries (travel toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, nail clippers etc…) (smaller than 1 quart bag)

-Liquids bag (dish soap, 1-2 washes worth of laundry soap,

-SNACKS and Meal Prep

-1 microwave safe bowl filled with ziplock bags of fruit, veggies, cheese sticks (keep cold with frozen sponge for washing dishes later)

-1 microwave safe bowl with crackers, granola bars, instant oatmeal

Kiddo Roots backpack (personal, under seat)

-water bottle (filled after security)

-toiletry kit (travel toothbrush, travel toothpaste, travel deodorant, lip balm)

-phone and charger

-activity book and pen

-fidgets (clipped to bag and in bag)

-pyjama shorts (modest enough for common areas at dorm)

-candy and gum

Gym-to-office bag

Hello. As my first candidate onebag to cover weightlifting and lawyering needs, I'm looking for something with:

  • Shoe compartment;
  • Laptop pouch; and
  • Looks fitting a law firm's office. Leather, nylon, canvas - I don't mind, but should not look sporty, rugged, outdoorsy, etc.

I've searched this subreddit extensively, but have not found a bag fitting the description.

  • The Aer Gym Duffel 3 is honestly perfect, but it just looks too much like a gym bag, whereas I need to look like a boring lawyer throughout the day.
  • The Wallton seems like great functionality but looks like a cowboy saddlebag, which again doesn't fit the vibe.

Would you be able to suggest something?

Best travel backpack for women?

Hi! I’m travelling to Australia via Asia from the UK in a few weeks (29F) and my parents want to buy me the best possible backpack for my birthday. Any suggestions for this? I’m 5’5 so not overly tall. I’ve been looking at google reviews but a lot of them are mainly focused on hiking! My mum has been suggesting this one https://amzn.eu/d/8lfLOKZ as it has a detachable mini rucksack!

Hit me with your best recommendations! ☺️

updated travel list Flying via EasyJet, Emirates & VietJet, checked luggage capacity is 23-28kg (23kg for all my Asian flights)

  • since I’m doing a long term move over to Australia for a year I’ll be taking a lot of personal items i.e. laptop (MacBook), clothes, a couple of pairs of shoes, toiletries etc
  • clamshell opening would probably be more desirable but I’m open to what people found most convenient in their own experiences!

Only allowed one personal item - can I fly with a backpack and wear my ski helmet?

Flying for a ski trip where I'll be renting skis/boots/poles. Plannnb on wearing my snow pants and coat on and taking off during if I can (it's a 45 min flight I'm not that worried). I've flown with my large backpack as a personal item several times with no problems. Only issue is my ski helmet which won't fit with my clothes. Can I wear it onto the plane and it not count as a carry on or another personal item? Flying from Vancouver to Kelowna Canada on WestJet. Most basic economy ticket.

📸 What’s Your Favorite Camera Packing Solution? Let’s Talk Packing Cubes, Gear Dividers, and Travel Essentials!

I’ve been deep-diving into efficient ways to store and transport camera gear lately, and I realized there’s a ton of potential in optimizing space using packing cubes and custom dividers. With all the equipment we haul—bodies, lenses, drones, chargers, cables, filters, etc.—it’s a nightmare when things aren’t easily accessible or protected. I figured Reddit would be the perfect place to crowdsource ideas and advice!

So, I want to know:

  1. Do you use packing cubes specifically designed for cameras? (Think Peak Design, Wandrd, Tenba, etc.) Or do you DIY with standard travel cubes or cases with inserts?

  2. What’s your go-to layout for balancing protection and accessibility in your camera bag? Do you prioritize easy access over space-saving? Any hacks for fitting more into tight spaces?

  3. Multi-camera shoots: How do you manage packing for multiple bodies, lenses, and accessories? Do you dedicate different cubes to specific gear or keep essentials together in one?

  4. Cables and accessories: Are there any organizers you swear by to avoid the dreaded cable spaghetti mess?

  5. Wishlist feature: If you could design a perfect camera packing cube, what features would it have? Hidden pockets, modular sections, water resistance, compression zippers?

For context, I’m a travel filmmaker, and I deal with multiple cameras, drones, and terabytes of footage on the regular (so space is sacred). Lately, I’ve been thinking of trying a combo of packing cubes for camera gear and maybe modular, hard-shell cases for essentials.

Let me know your thoughts, recommendations, or horror stories about travel mishaps due to bad packing (I’ve had gear break in transit, and I’m still traumatized lol).

Let’s make this thread a resource for anyone struggling to fit their creative world into a backpack! ✈️📦

What’s an efficient way to pack contacts?

Contacts just take up so much space, especially when you have two different prescriptions. How do you pack them so they aren’t taking up as much space??

Best personal item bag for all airlines?

I’m looking for a bag that I can fit 1 week worth of clothes as my personal item when flying. I only care about fitting clothes and toiletries.

I’ve looked through some old threads but they almost all get hung up on laptop pockets and other extra stuff I don’t care about.

I also know airlines all have different requirements for what is allowed as a personal item, so ideally it would be a bag that works for almost every airline. I mostly fly internationally in Europe and the Americas 4-5 times a year.

It seems like the best size for that would be 40 x 30 x 15 cm (16 x 12 x 6 inches). Is that too small?

I usually just use an old backpack as my personal item, but I’d like something more specialized. What are some bags you would recommend? Thanks for any suggestions

Second-guessing two week UK trip with MLC mini

I am going to the UK for 2 weeks at the start of April. I recently got the MLC mini which has been great for shorter trips and was planning to use it on this one but now am second-guessing myself.

For context I will be moving around a lot, staying with multiple friends the first week and then meeting up with my parents and staying in hotels the second week, so want to be mobile and compact. However, will be needing clothes for 1) at least 3 days of hiking, 2) city walking time, and 3) a fancy dinner - thinking this would require 3 pairs of shoes. Probably relevant that I am a woman so don’t have as much overlap in the first two categories that could also work for the fancy dinner.

I think this would be possible in the summer but am wondering about the feasibility of this with the colder weather and likely rain.

Seeking anyone’s advice on if, considering my parameters, you think the MLC mini would work for this trip 1) on its own, or 2) in conjunction with a smaller tote/pack (I have the Patagonia pack ultralight blackhole tote pack), or 3) if this is too ambitious of a trip to one bag. Thank you in advance!

2 weeks in Italy with a wedding dress and suit

My soon to be with and I are traveling to Italy for 16 days to elope and she wants to take pictures in our wedding attire but I am concerned about the bulkiness of carrying such things around for so long.

She wants to take roller carry on suitcases but I have told her it would be inconvenient due to us only staying at airbnbs for one or two nights max. Due to check in times we would be stuck luging our bags around for half the day and it wont be comfortable (especially for me because I would have to deal with the bags😂)

My original plan was to purchase a Decathlon Forclaz 40L backpack and pack most of our stuff in there and use an Osprey Skarab bag that I already have for my wife but this was before I considered the suit and dress.

I have come up with a few solutions but I wanted a second opinion.

I saw a comment somewhere mentioning the Eagle Creek Pack-It Garment Folder I just dont know how effective these will be and I might have to buy a garment steamer. They might also take up quite a bit of space in a backpack ?

I know of those 2 in 1 convertible garment duffle bags but Duffle bags are horribly uncomfortable to carry around especially if I plan on being on our feet most of the day. This being said I found versions that also act as a backpack which is super convenient but Im concerned about space for the rest of my clothes and I really dont want to carry 2 backpack around obviously. Also the only ones I have found are cheap amazon ones so they might just suck.

Iv never attempted or needed to do this but I could pay to store our suit and dress at a dry cleanings in Rome (where we fly into and plan on using the suit and dress) and pick the garments up before we fly out, if thats a thing they they offer 🤷‍♂️ alternatively I could just book a hotel instead of airbnb in Rome and do the same thing but they probably wouldn’t want to hold it for literally 2 weeks.

I could buy a box and ship them back to the US but that seems expensive.

Lastly we could just take at least one roller suitcase and just deal with it but this goes against every “tips to traveling around Italy” videos since they all say how awful it is dealing with these there.

I assume lots of people moving around (not staying in the same city for multiple nights) just use larger 30-40L backpacks and carry them around all day with them. I guess I should add we plan on using public transportation mostly and may only rent a car for a handful of days. Iv never had a 40L travel bag so it’s totally possible a suit would fit with some light folding and I am overthinking.

If anyone has and tips or opinions any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bag/Bagpack for Vueling?

Which rucksack can I use for a flight with Vueling, cheapest plan? On their website I found the height to be 15.7in/40cm. Most rucksacks are taller than that. Do you have any experience of how strict the airline is about size?

Can a 40L realistically travel through Europe?

Im going thru Air France and Iberia Air and am getting nervous that my 40L bag might be too big to be my carry on? Have any of yall flown either of these and have some perspective? I looked through the bag dimensions and it fits in them (had to keep double checking because I’m not used to cm).

I was looking at the Lite Travel Pack 38L last week and saw it for C$285. Today it was listed for C$299. Incognito mode on: C$269!

On my iPad it's still C$285 but also C$269 in private mode.

What are you using as a replacement charging cube for your Macbook?

New unisex Farpoint 65 wheels vs discontinued Fairview 65 wheeled backpack?

I was looking to buy the Osprey Fairview 65 Wheeled backpack but it's been discontinued, replaced by a supposedly unisex farpoint option. Has anyone any info on any major differences or is it just the earlier men's farpoint 65 rebranded? And if so would that be a major issue for a 5'5 woman?

I'm not planning to need to carry it in backpack mode all that much, but I'd rather not spend so much money on something with straps that won't work for me. There aren't any in stock in my country to try in person unfortunately.

Before the inevitable comments, yes I know I'll have to check it and I know hybrid bags are not usually the best but this is the style and size of bag I need for a specific trip I have planned :) any other similar suggestions welcome too!

(I normally one bag with a cotopaxi Alpa 35)

Thanks in advance!

Which flask/bottle do you think is most convenient for long walking days in the summer?

I’ll be visiting southern Europe during July and August, and I was considering on buying a good flask or bottle that keeps a good amount of cool water to hydrate during long walks. I’m traveling on a budget, so I’ll be refilling regularly. I have no issues with carrying a big flask around.

Is there any particular brand you’d recommend that’s both affordable and successfully keeps water cool?

Thanks!

Water resistant/proof packable backpacks in the UK?

Looking for a packable backpack to use on some upcoming city breaks this year. Going a variety of places but one thing is there's a good chance of plenty of rain so looking for one that's either waterproof or pretty water resistant. I've looked through the sub a fair bit and seen a fair few recommendations, only thing is some are hard to find in the UK, or have a huge markup compared to other places. Don't want anything too big, just to carry snacks, layers and electronics hence the water proof/resistance once at each city, I have an Osprey 26+6 for the travel itself.

Standing out is Osprey ultralight drystuff, lifeventure, decathlon, matador (although seems pretty expensive). So yeah open to suggestions, alternatively if anyone is selling excess in the UK give me a shout I suppose. Thanks.

WANDRD Stratus Photo 18 vs TENBA Fulton 14L

As the title says I would like to hear your opinions about these two bags. Also, given the extended knowledge of the community would also enjoy to hear some other alternatives.

The use cases would be mostly as EDC plus some travel and hiking. The major requirements are to carry some camera equipment (one camera and 2 lenses max), laptop, some clothes and to fit under an airplane seat.

The Tenba Fulton 14L, although has a smaller advertised volume, the dimensions are similar to the Wandrd and the upgrade to the 16L maximizes the space in the camera/cube compartment which I am not looking forward.

I kinda like the little features form the wandrd (ability to add external accessories like pouches or straps, which would allow me to transport a tripod or running shoes), the lateral camera access (whereas the Tenba is in the back of the backpack) and some compartimenta that give easy access to sunglasses, passport etc. In the other hand it comes at a much more expensive 200€, instead of the 110€ that the Tenba would cost me.

Regarding style, I don’t have any complaints about neither, but I am more inclined to the design of the Wandrd.

If it was not for the price, I would quickly gravitate towards the Wandrd.

Do you have any other suggestions ore inputs regarding this comparison? I also looked at Peak design and manfrotto, but did not fell in love with neither of their offerings.

Western Rise low/no stock for months . . .

Been meaning to try out Western Rise pants for a while now but it seems they’ve been out of stock in basic sizes and colors for months.

I signed up to be notified when those items are back in stock, but all I get is daily spam regarding sales on items that are still out of stock.

I heard these guys were going out of business, but they say they’re not - but this still all smells of “going out of business” to me. How do you survive as a brand without stocking standard sizes and colors of basic products for months at a time?

Packing rain jacket for travel

I have a 3-in-1 (I think or a 2-in-1) rain jacket with fleece jacket combo and I want to pack them in my bag but I want to not just stuff them in. I saw this lovely thing https://shop.tropicfeel.com/es/products/ns40-light-jacket-clover-green-woman And love the fact it becomes small but not in the budget for a $100-$200 coat as I have what I need right now.

!!!!!!!How do I create the same effect what kind of pouch or bag would I need to look for, for the packability of somewhat same effect.

Edit there seems to be a slight confusion, I am asking if there is a pouch or bag or not exactly a packing cube to store a jacket(s) that will pulled out when needed. Some what the same as the linked jacket. thanks

Travel + Hiking Bag That Fits Under Airplane Seat

Looking for a travel backpack that is also comfortable for hiking AND fits under airplane seats. I'd like to be able to use it as a personal item while also being able to carry on an additional bag when needed (I know that's two bags – most of the time, though, this would be a solo travel bag).

Ideally it would have a clamshell-style main pocket opening. Would also be great if the hip belt could be stowed away (if it has a hip belt).

A couple I've found that don't quite fit both needs, but help give an idea of what I'm looking for:

  • If the Osprey Farpoint 40 came in a smaller size, it would be perfect.
  • If Osprey Sojourn Porter 30 was built for longer wear/more comfort while hiking, that could be perfect, too.

+ I'm typically flying on either Delta, American or United.

I finally found perfect merino bralettes and they ship to Europe BUT shipping here is already expensive and they "are not aware of the fees and duties applied by customs and the carrier".... so I'm interested if anyone risked additional fees and how much were they at the end.

Men’s Linen Pants w/ Zipper Pockets?

Hi,

I’m heading to Italy this summer with my girlfriend; she’s a teacher so we’re limited to summer travel. As is common knowledge, Italy in the summer is insanely hot + crowded (and will be even worse with the jubilee year). I typically wear Vuori fleet pants or Lululemon surge joggers when I’m onebagging urban areas, but I think I’d like to try something a bit more stylish and summer-y this time around. That being said, I really value the security that the zipper pockets on my typical models provide. Does anyone have recs for linen pants with zipper (or even velcro) pockets? It seems really tough to find such a thing.

Cpap hose storage

Those that travel with their cpap, what is the most space efficient way you have found to store the hose? I recently got a Air Mini that has been great and much easier to travel with but the hose seems to always be unruly. Currently using the mesh bag that came with the air mini but know there has to be a better option but my searching isn't finding much.

I prefer to not have a dedicated storage bag other than my backpack as it is just another thing to keep track of and cumbersome when toting arounds taxis and trains and airports.

Please share your best storage methods.
