Hi, i travel a lot and am hard on my luggage (cobblestones, dragging up big flights of stairs). and am a small (5’3” 100lbs) woman who is not strong and tends to overpack. I’m trying to decide on a new bag for an upcoming trip (and all that come after). I usually fly with a carryon, personal item, and one checked bag. I already have a tumi international dual access spinner and was not super impressed with how it looks after a couple trips.
I was attracted to the baseline model for the structured garment bag (i pack a lot of long dresses) but have seen complaints about the baseline weight and malfunction of the expansion feature.
Also is the built in garment bag really better than just packing a garment bag?
What else does the baseline offer that makes it worth the extra $280?
Will i be able to manage a fully packed large? A large where i leave room for souvenirs?
Any feedback on size/features and general recs appreciated!
I have or have ordered all of these bags and will put them together next week. I will compare them for my use case; i.e., 1.5 bag travel by auto and by air. I would be happy to post my conclusions here. If anyone is still looking at this thread and has specific questions, please let me know before I do the comparing. When I am finished the bags go back except for the winner (winners, maybe). I couldn't do a better job than the original post, so please check there first. My post will be my own personal two cents.
Which of the two bags would you personally take for your everyday carry (non-travel)?
I currently have the CPL 16 and while I love the majority of what it offers, the straps are not very comfortable when putting in my 14" MacBook. But maybe there's is a "breaking in" period? I only have a couple of weeks left in the return period to make a decision.
The 21 Slick is currently on sale for $228 for the tan (coyote) color so that's the one I'd likely get if I decide to return the CPL, although I'd prefer the black or green which are $335 and $285 respectively. Also, i'm not used to spending this much on myself so this is a big deal for me personally.
I’m looking for an EDC fanny pack but everything I look up is either small and slim made for ccw or big and bulky just want to know y’all’s experiences and recommendations. I want it just for my EDC gear power bank, chargers, knife, flashlight, lighter, maybe a small basic med kit things like I can wear regular or over shoulder for everyday outing with the family. I want to be able to have some organizer pouches that I can easily keep in it but when needed I can take out and leave in the car for room to take my Taurus g2c in and out of the house to and from the car I don’t need a bag to CCW just for small periods of time for transport reasons once I’m in the car it goes in center console holster.
Like, for real. I don't want to see Bellroy or Aer shit recommended below. (Was the bag made in the Philippines? Cool, is the company Filipino? No? Then why are you posting it??)
I just need a medium-sized insulated bag to carry loaves and bagels back from the bakery from time to time. Something not too bulky that might even fit in a backpack or crossbody would be awesome as well. Bonus points if such a thing is made in Canada.
I really need more recommentations that's from accessible brands, I've been struggling with the options that people have given because I can't seem to get any of them from where I'm at. Just a sturdy everyday backpack is good, preferably with a few different compartments, thanks!
Front vs the Metro Backpack 12L
Back vs the Metro Backpack 12L
So I just got the new Alpaka Metro Backpack Pro in the mail and packed it out with my usual EDC for work already and these are my initial impressions
- Not much larger than the 12L externally but WAYYYYYYYYY larger internally
- The zippers of the main compartment are different, the 12L version has a zipper that's smoother with smaller teeth
- The zipper gets caught on the top hood just like the 12L, except it's much stiffer and a little more annoying to use
- The front zippered compartments are the same, just bigger (can fit a bigger notebook in the front zipper slot)
- The internals are different, I prefer the additional pockets in the 12L vs the Pro 24L
- The internals are now just a large cavernous opening with a bunch of attachment points for their Hub system
- The Pro 24L has a sternum strap, it's removable (I removed it)
- The "secret" side pocket on the back of the Pro 24L is fine, it's a bit thin and I think it can only comfortably hold a phone or a passport
- The top handle of the Pro 24L is slightly better padded than the 12L
Please let me know if you have any questions about the bag and I'll do my best to answer them

Is there something better? Whats your favorite?
If money was no issue and you wanted the best - what are you picking?
Minimal & high quality is what im looking for. Currently have home cut & knotted paracord but looking for something nice. Ideas?
Hi,
I'm looking for a good large check-in bag for my 6month study abroad trip. My plan is to use vacuum bags to save space with whichever choice, but I've been looking at two luggages. The Maxlite® 5 29" Large Check-In Spinner from Travelpro and SWISSGEAR Sion 6283 28" Expandable Spinner Luggage.
The maxlite is currently $199 for the large check-in (Case Dimensions: H: 29 in. W: 20.5 in. D: 12.5 in., Weight: 8 lbs., Volume: 142 L)
The swissgear 3pc set is $199 for a large, medium, and carryon luggage. The large check-in info (Case Dimensions: 28.5 x 17.25 x 12.5 in, Weight: 11lbs, Volume: 86L)
Seems like the swissgear is a better deal for all 3 pieces, but I also like the large size and lightweight features of the maxlite.
I was looking at the decathlon forclaz 15L messenger bag (thinking it could make a decent minimalist one bag for myself).... and it appears it is no longer available on the decathlon US website :( . Was wondering if there might be another way to procure this bag, or if another similar bag in price / function was out there ? I searched online myself and it doesn't appear there's much out there !
I’m looking for top quality straps, clips, cord, material.
Hi all!
I've spent the last 3 weeks preparing for Black Friday and trying to locate a $699.99 Briggs and Riley Baseline Collection Essential Carry-On Spinner in black for my husband that is a roadie and literally travels for a living.
Nowhere is discounting these online. Most places won't even let you use the 10% off welcome email subscriber code. I was defeated! The best I was able to find was Altman Luggage that doesn't charge shipping and handling or sales tax. I was willing to settle for that. It was the last one left in black and I snagged it!
Then I found Traveling Bags http://travelingbags.mke.com and they are having a huge Black Friday sale! Once you put the item in your cart it brings the bag down to $594.15 PLUS no sales tax! It cost me $608 and some change out the door for the suitcase. I'm thrilled so I had to share my buy and the special price I was able to find with you all.
Away is offering 25% off, this stacks with the $40 off via a referral. You can also receive an additional 2% cash back from Rakuten as well. I believe this is basically the best deal for their bags/luggage, so if you were already thinking about getting 1 this is likely the best time to make the jump!
They're all great - however, personally I like The Carry-On Flex. It allows for quite a bit of room when expanded but when collapsed it fits on basically any airline which is great!
Let me know if you're having any issues, happy to help! Common problems of the $40 referral not working can be remedied via trying to use the link on desktop/phone in both incognito/normal!
If you need a referral feel free to use mine, I’d appreciate it :)
Hey,
I am considering buying the Osprey Daylite 26+6 for an upcoming trip, but wanted to hear your thoughts on how well it would work for an additional usecase:
I currently have a timbuk2 spire as my office bag and an osprey transporter 40L as my gym bag. On days where I go to the office and go to the gym at lunch time I have to carry both with me, which I do by alternating between carrying the timbuk2 on my back and the duffel as a duffel, or double-carrying both on my backpack by lengthening the straps on the duffel to the max and slinging it over the backpack. This is annoying and overkill 9/10 times as I do not need the full 40L of the duffel for my gym stuff.
I am considering using the daylite as a hybrid where I would carry a laptop and a techbag in the main compartment for my office stuff and then my gym stuff in packing cubes. Take my office stuff out when I arrive at the office then just carry the gym clothes to the gym when I go. Considering the characteristics of the Daylite do you think it would work well for this?
Thanks!
Been eyeing the 2L Alpaka flight sling for a while now - I really like that the straps come off completely so there is an option to use it as purely a pouch, and it has just the right amount of organisation for me. But the back pocket being completely open is really annoying. Has anyone managed to DIY a solution to this? Or any recommendations for similar bags but with a back pockets that can be secured?

I’ve been looking for a waterproof duffel for day use on a 17’ dinghy sailboat. Something I can bungee strap in and use for storing water, snacks, picnic style lunch, etc. no overnight needs. So far I’ve found the Gill Voyager duffel bag. It comes in 10L and 30L sizes. Is there anything better out there around this same price point?

There’s also the 10L dry bag as an option. I’m leaning more toward this because it would take up less floor space.

I own a Patagonia 40L Black Hole Duffel. Would that be enough for my purposes? My concern is water-tightness and it being too large for my intended use. Space is precious on the sailboat. Would I be better off with a Black Hole MLC Cube?

I recently lost this backpack and it has a lot of sentimental values. May I ask if anyone knows the model/type/year of this backpack from Samsonite? It is black/red and has zippered side pockets on both sides.
Fellow baggers, I’m struggling with the chaos of managing 4 backpacks and 2 young kids (ages 4 and 2) while navigating airports. Right now, my wife and I each carry two backpacks, but it’s pure madness—especially since the kids can’t carry anything and often need to be carried themselves.
I’ve thought about switching to carry-on trolleys, but aside from the wheels, they seem impractical. Quick access to essentials like spare clothes or toys during the flight is key, and backpacks make that easier.
My current idea is to keep the backpacks but use two portable wheel attachments (like the one pictured) to stack and stroll two backpacks at a time. This way, we wouldn’t have to carry all four bags.
Has anyone tried something like this? Or solved a similar problem in a different way? I’d love to hear your thoughts or advice!
I’ve been after a nice small messenger for a while and the new 12L cinch from bellroy has caught my eye - has anyone got one? What do you think of it?
It’s pretty new I guess but I’m struggling to find any decent reviews of it yet, so would appreciate some real owner opinions 🙏
I would mostly use it as a day bag / dad bag but I could be tempted to use it as a laptop bag occasionally - bellroy claim it fits a 14” laptop but I have my doubts about how practical it is with the weight of a MacBook + cables - doesn’t appear to have much structure or protection to it.
Also would appreciate suggestions for other similar sized messengers if you’ve got em - thanks! :)
Saw this on amazon and it looks like the beast 28 (its 28 not 35 it says chaser 28 on the photo) anyone who owns this? Looks like the manufacturer rebranded the pack and sold it with a few tweaks , saw the beast 28 v1 and it was sold on amazon under the brands 4monster 28 and manueklear 28 ,but in essencw the beast 28 rebadged.am curious to see whats the ratings about seeing its 4 stars.
Hello ,everyone . I'm a student that travels home frequently so I need a bag that's big enough for my laptop and some clothes but that also isn't that bulky so I dont look like I'm going camping everyday when I take it to uni. Imnot sure what size would be good but I was looking at bags form 20-25l here are the ones I liked the most:
Alpaka metro pro
Patagonia black hole 25l
north face borealis
arcteryx mantis 26
What would you recommend any of these or would there be some other options ? Any info is great Thanks.
So, I ordered a Black Ember WPT tote, and just realized it doesn't include a strap (just handles), but it does have attachment points for a strap.
So naturally, now I'm looking for a strap:
I have a Peak Design strap which would be perfect, but I'm not sure how to attach properly (i think the loops on the strap will saw through the attachment points on the bag...
Any ideas?
With the recent BF/Cyber Monday deals I've been in the market for a good EDC. Of course I want something thats functional and wont make a mess in the bag, but going off of comfort, since I get shoulder and back pain with my current (cheap nobrand) EDC - what would your recommendations be?
Edit: my main edc items are 13 inch mbp, ipad air, 26oz tumblr, my device chargers, any 2 books I might be reading at the moment, glasses, sunglasses, notebook, couple pencils.
