Lately I've started a habit of daily walks, and an accessory I thought was just for travel to hold phone and passport has turned into something I now use every single day.
I went and collected a list of these things so I figured I'd share:
I'm generally happy with the Matador one but it absolutely depends on a sternum strap to hold it up. I'm open to something that, once attached, feels more like part of the bag and doesn't depend on the sternum strap.
Do you use a shoulder strap pouch? What's your favorite?
Looking for a bag that won’t break the bank, like less then $100, to lug around some trading card game supplies to events, friends houses and the local LGC. Looking for something in more a sling variant. Would appreciate anyone’s recommendations…
Hi everyone! I'm going on a 3 weeks trip to Europe and want to buy my first sling for the occasion. I'm planning to do the trip with one bakcpack only so a sling would serve as my EDC. I'm looking for a sling that can pack quite a lot of stuff for visiting during the day without being too bulky, ideally could fit a water bottle inside without being like a 7L sling (I would have wanted a 4L max). I also want it to be sleek by design so that during the evening I could go to restaurants or bars without the sling being too bulky and feeling out of place. Any recommandations? Thanks!
I ripped my domke f-5xb after many years of use. Looking for a new bag to replace it. My ideal bag RN is Tamrac Apache 4.2 but I'm not sure if it's the best choice. Please recommend me something similar that's built with canvas material. and maybe a water bottle holder.
I buy a lot of clothes so a huge capacity bag like this would be awesome, but I can't find anything online :p
Hey everyone,
I’m considering getting the Travel Backpack, but I’ve heard that the Elements Pro runs a bit smaller than expected. Does the same apply to the Travel Backpack?
I need a backpack that can comfortably fit the following: • A small lunchbox • A regular-sized book • A 750ml (~25 oz) bottle • A small pouch for cables • AirPods • A 12.9” ipad pro
If you have any other recommendations that might suit my needs, I’d love to hear them!
Thanks for your help!
Hello, budget airlines in EU have pretty strict measurements for personal item bag (usually around 16" x 8" x 10"). Does somebody use any evergoods bag for that purpose and have no issue with bag size tester? If yes, which one?
Hi !
I’m looking for a bag (not backpack) that I can use everyday, but that look decent enough in a working environment.
In terms of size, it should big enough for a 15 inch size laptop, with a lunchbox and miscellaneous stuff
I was thinking of something like that bag, do you guys have any other suggestions ?
New Backpack
Hi. I’m currently looking for a backpack to replace my BÉIS Backpack. I really do enjoy it but it’s falling apart after about 1.5 years of casual travel. I’d like to take some of the features I love and upgrade.
Things I love: -Lay flat/ suitcase style opening
-Decent amount of storage (not too many pockets and more than one main compartment.)
-minimal/sleek design (not a huge fan of the tactile design)
-Internal compression strap
Must haves:
-Carry on or personal item size (prefer <35L) -Suitcase (or similar) opening -Minimal design/nice looking -trolley pass through -compression straps/mesh section divider
Nice to haves: -Chest strap -water bottle holder -no more than $250
Bags I’ve Considered:
-Osprey 26+6: bought it and eh. Don’t really like the look and really don’t like how the laptop compartment isn’t separate -will most likely return.
-Cotopaxi Allpa 20 or 28L: heard it was very uncomfortable (not sure if more than BÉIS or not) I’m leaning towards this being my first choice rn
-CALPAK Terra 26L: initially my first choice, but Ive heard of some quality issues and it has a few too many pockets for me (not a dealbreaker though)
-Patagonia MLC mini: couldn’t find in store near me and online design leaves much to be desired tbh (again not a dealbreaker but I’m more inclined towards other options atm)
-Tropicfeel: i really like the design and modular aspect, but I’ve seen concerns about the quality not equaling the price.
If anyone has any tips that’d be great cause i have a few trips coming up that I’d like to use this bag for
Hi all,
I've been struggling to find a laptop bag suitable for the MacBook Pro 14" that I like the look of. I don't want anything too big, juts for the laptop, charger, a mouse and a few cables.
https://bellroy.com/products/tokyo-laptop-bag?color=raven&material=baida_nylon&size=14in#slide-0
Has anyone used this bag and can recommend it? I did read one review that said the strap disconnected frequently when picking up the bag. It's now £85 instead of £135 so now I am strongly considering it.
Thank you,
The Fat Fish
I'm pretty happy with the REI Trail 25 pack. The size, comfort, weight, and value make it a great bag. The one thing I think would make it even better would be pockets on the straps or what people refer to as running vest-style pockets. I have some small running vests and the chest pockets are much more comfortable than hip belt pockets and small fanny packs.
I know of the technical fastpacking bags like the Ulitmate Direction Fastpack line but those are overkill. UD makes a new pack called the Blazek which is closer to what I'm looking for but it's very small. It looks like the current ULA Dragonfly has ditched those pockets entirely. And a lot of the popular thru-hiking bags are just too big for carry-on travel. I would prefer it to be close to the 18"x14"x8" personal item limit for most US airlines. Side pockets that I can use to carry a tripod would be great too.
The Mystery Ranch Gallagator 25 is close but apparently the reservoir pocket is too small for a MacBook Air. Montbell has some packs with their fantastic shoulder pockets but they're too large and only ship from Japan (returns are costly from the US). The Osprey Talon Velocity is too tall. Is there anything I'm overlooking? Budget is under $300.
If push comes to shove, I can buy add-on pockets from Matador, Montbell, or REI.
I posted this on r/onebag previously:

Hi all!
Deciding between 4 bags.. but I think really 3.
Sympl Commuter 20L
Evergoods CTB20L
Fyro T22
Aer Pro Pack
I love the look of the Sympl, but just wary of the lack of a false bottom, and the space it can hold since it has an internal water bowl holder.
CTB just wary of the back digging
I hear too many split opinions about fyro but seems cool!
AER is just a little too big and I find it ugliest if the bunch.
Thanks yall!
This collection has been about a year and half in the making, but it's time to break up the fam and consolidate.
The short of it is I've been on the hunt for "the perfect" briefcase for a while now, and while I haven't found it just yet, I think I found my core keepers for now.
In no particular order:
Filson 256:
The OG briefcase. I'm lucky in that this model is the older one that has a few of the organizational pockets that make it a great all-arounder. It can hold a surprising amount of stuff and while it's definitely towards the back half of it's life, it still has a few more miles left on it.
Filson 257:
My latest acquisition and the one I should have started with from the beginning...I ignored all the posts on reddit that said to just get this one and skip the 258. I should have listened. It has everything you could want in a modern bag. It was maybe has just one more internal divider than I would have liked.
Filson 258:
The beast. It's the kitchen sink of briefcases and I freaking love it. Yes it's big, (probably too big on my 5'6 body) but I don't care. The external organizing pocket is my favorite. To the haters out there, I will say this bag does make sense if you view it as a mobile workstation.
Oakstreet Utility Briefcase:
I kind of bought this one on a whim from Ebay and while it's a great bag, it's definitely redundant. That said, it's made in the USA and leather components are from Horween leather which I love. It has more organization than the modern day 256 and I believe uses a higher gauge of twill (22 oz vs 18 oz for the Filson 256).
Pièce de résistance: Bleu de Chauffe Zeppo
This is my prized possession. It's so slick and can hold a surprising amount of stuff. The leather is intoxicating and it's actually quite durable. Made by hand by one person in France. It's thoughtfully made and love the company.
Honorable mention:
Waxed GR2 - A keeper and my only backpack so it's not going anywhere.
Conclusion:
For me, having all these bags that are all basically BIFL is a bit silly. I think I found my core bags so i'll be letting go a few and hopefully let a few people appreciate some of these. I had a fun time trying out new bags but I think i'm letting go of the 256 and the Oakstreet Utility briefcase.
I work in IT, and do field trips with some tools. I'd like to find a bag that has a dedicated laptop compartment that I can keep my laptop and accessories for office work separate from tools and other stuff.
Laptop compartment needs to be well protected, and in general it needs to be quite durable and not so flimsy since it'll have heavyish tools in there (like pliers, cutters, screwdrivers, network tools, etc...), I have some tool pouches already for that kind of stuff...however a bunch of internal compartments would be nice.
A few that I'm looking at:
I don't think I necessarily need the backpack straps but so far the convertible bags seem to tick more boxes for.
The Timbuk2 Scheme is winning so far, I also like the Mystery Ranch 3 way but can't find it anywhere in Canada.
Budget is under $200USD.
When being a tourist in other cities I like to have a small bag on me to hold some water, wipes, bandaids for kids, umbrellas etc. But not a lot. I like it to be small so that museums and other places don't make me put it in lockers or say I can't come in.
However, it's nice for it to be able to hold snacks, souvenirs, picnic lunches, shopping purchases, etc. when needed. Ideally this isn't the same backpack that I use on the airplane, so it packs away small, but this isn't a requirement.
Is there anything like this? An actually small bag (backpack or messenger bag) that expands to something bigger when needed?
So I have an older GR2 40L, Rucker 2.0, and a 16L Bullet with laptop for my EDC. I was looking for something for travel, a personal item for flights or something to use for a roadtrip weekend get away.
I used to use my Bullet but with an almost 2 year old needed some more space. I was hoping to get away with just 2 extra liters but now I’m really liking the GR1. The Dyneema bullet seems like it would be a great personal item and the GR1 seems like a great weekend option. I thought it might be too big but it fits my torso almost perfectly. I had planned to send one back… but now I want to keep both. Should have known.
Any thoughts?
Been looking for a backpack lately and one that really caught my eyes is the Lululemon cruiser which i find kinda pricey from where I’m from since only resellers have this bag. Any thoughts about the cruiser or better yet do you have recommendations for alternatives?
Hi! I’m looking for a messenger bag that can also be worn as a backpack. I’ll mostly using it for school as I’m near graduation from high school, just enough to carry books and my laptop for uni. Thanks!
I need a new backpack for school because my current one isn't cutting it anymore. It needs to be at least 30L so I can fit all of my stuff into it. Laptop sleeve is not a major priority, and I'd prefer if it didn't cut into the main compartment. So far I'm looking at the Osprey Tropos and the Nebula, but if there's a better option, please let me know. I also heard the Aer has some good options. Comfort is the main priority
The duo has been my go to bag for years now. Not an ounce of damage on it. Has been all around the country with me. On road trips and planes. Under seats every time. But recently got a bigger laptop (Lenovo Legion 5i) and it JUST doesn’t fit inside the laptop compartment.
So I’m seeking a new bag (also can hopefully have delivered in the next two weeks for an upcoming trip). Must fit under a plane seat/personal item size. I mainly use it as a primary tech bag when I travel paired with a peak design 50l travel duffel or Away Bigger Carry-on suitcase for my clothes. But sometimes as a daily carry. Needs to fit my 16” gaming laptop. iPad mini 6 tablet. I carry my Fuji xt4 camera with a 16-55 lens with me always as well. Peak design tech pouch. Some sort of gaming handheld (Nintendo switch/steam deck/PlayStation portal). Topo designs pouch for meds (Tylenol, Allegra, etc). Possibly a light sweatshirt. Water bottle pocket is not necessary but sure it’s nice to have
I also have a Mission Workshop Drift tote that handles the job but carrying two duffels/totes in airports is not ideal and it also is pushing it for some under seats every plane rides.
I’ve been eying up the Evergoods CTB20l or possibly the 26l but wary about it being under seats. Are city pack pro is a possibility as well.
Especially the Zip version. Is it practical?
Hi hello I was wondering if anyone have tried the mertra sling bag? The thing is I'm gonna be travelling this summer and I need a day bag and I'll already have my cotopaxi allpa 35L so I need something that can be carried on the front as well as on the back. I'm very picky with the appearance of my bag as well as with the usability and Mertra seems to fit my criteria BUT I can't find any reviews from people that have traveled with it, I don't know if its sturdy, all the reviews just says it looks good... would you guys think it would work as an everyday/ beach day/ hiking day bag? And do you think it's too big for a personal item on plane? And is it weird to have my big cotopaxi on my back and my big sling on my front?
I have so many questions, so little answers
Help me 💙
Seem to be looking everywhere for this one.
Preferably Black/NW Sky. Or Black X Pack/Kiwi.
Also happy with Deep Blue Ballsitic.
Or hell, even the Aubergine/Sitka.
I'm getting a new laptop for school and the VA is paying for it. They will typically reject gaming laptops and I need one with a dedicated GPU, upgradeable ram, 2 storage slots, & made in the last 2 years, so they need to be business/professional type laptops and that is a small pool to choose from for my specs.
Most of the options are in the 15.6"-16" range. So I'm wondering if people have had success putting those sized laptops in the dedicated laptop sleeve of the Ctactical CT15 3.0 backpack or is it strictly 15" and below?
