Defy Defender Daytripper

Hi all

I am really interested in the Defy Daytripper as a alternative to sling bags.

Only thing is I'm in the UK and before I commit to the shipping and taxes does anyone know of a similar bag that might be easier for me to find.

Features I like:

  • top carry handle
  • vertical orientation

The load out will mostly be a 11" ipad, water bottle and physical book.

Personal Item Backpack Recommendations

Hey!

My wife is looking for a personal item bag to use for travel. We do a mix of one bag travel and two bag travel, so we do want it to be more travel oriented. An example of one that she has found and likes the concept is the Portland Gear Cascade Backpack, but I've read some mixed stuff about it on Reddit - particularly low build quality.

Looking for something that has:

  • Personal Item Size for International Travel. This seems to be 16in x 12in x 6in or 40cm x 30cm x 15cm, or 21-25 liters. Obviously, it will depend on airlines, and many tend to be flexible, so this isn't a hard number.
  • Opens more like a tote bag and less like a suitcase. See the example above.
  • A Luggage Passthrough/Trolley Sleave for when we do use two bags.
  • External Water Bottle Pocket
  • Separate Laptop Compartment (Doesn't not need to be an exclusive zipper, can be part of the main compartment, just separated.)
  • At least one functional (enough space to actually use it) internal zipper pocket for small things like socks/underwear/electronic accessories.
  • At least one functional external zipper pocket for quick access (passport/keys/wallet/phone).
  • Quality materials (YKK Zippers/CORDURA Nylon/Etc) a plus but would consider other options.

Willing to consider all price points.

Thanks!

Custom Backpack Makers - Ultralight EDC/Travel

Hey All. I'm reaching out to see who may have a recommendation for a custom pack maker to collaborate with on an EDC/Travel pack. Preferably someone who is familiar with making ultralight bags, though not the type specifically geared for through hiking.

I've been using the ULA Dragonfly for a many years as a do-it-all bag. In fact, I've used it so much that its pretty beat up and it's time for a new one. Unfortunately, due to recent press, the Dragonfly is currently difficult to purchase. There are definitely things I'd change about the bag anyway, so I see this a potential opportunity to have an ultralight clamshell bag custom made. Does anyone know who might be able to do a lightweight bag like this from scratch? Or, perhaps someone who is making something similar in a made to order format?

I've been in touch with a couple of well-known makers already (Arch, Filip R.) but they aren't offering custom- more made to order, and their offerings don't have a front-clamshell option. Any leads would be appreciated!

Looking to pick a work/travel backpack as a team gift

As someone who loves backpacks for travel, I am thinking of getting a travel backpack (talking 22-28L) for our team members. Most don't have to bring a laptop to work so I'm thinking of avoiding the regular EDC backpacks and getting something of a hybrid. If we get to 30L, which is what I normally use, it would be too big.

Any recommendations? As a company I've seen them do Herschel, Nike, OGIO and things of the sort. Budget isn't crazy (there's over 150 people), so we can't buy a PD Everyday backpack or something like that. So looking to hopefully stay under the $120 range ( some companies can get us to that price if we order enough units).

TIA

Looking for 1.5" Strap with uncentered Maglockz Slider Buckle or Fidlock V Buckle.

Im looking for a replacement strap for my side bag in 1.5" with a Maglockz Slider Buckle or Fidlock V Buckle or something similar and ive noticed all the replacement straps have centered buckles from Alpaka, Dsptch, and even Attitude for 1.5"

Alpaka makes a 1" Mini Pro Strap with the perfect buckle placement (pictured), anyone know a company selling a strap this style in 1.5" ?

Looking for a weekender

I travel a few times a month for work. Sometimes these are very quick day trips in which case I take my briefcase and nothing else.

Other times these are 1-2 nights where I’ll be taking client meetings during the day. Typically just have a laptop and charger, maybe tablet during these meetings. I’m looking for a bag for these trips.

Ideal something that looks nice and travels easily in an airport. I have the following requirements;

  • roughly 30L max and duffel or weekender style
  • externally accessible large tech pocket. Ideally I can put my daily small briefcase or laptop sleeve in it and remove for the flight and use as my daily when I land. I just ordered “The associate” and the the 13” sleeve from satchel and page to see if either of these can work as the daily.
  • separate shoe compartment (not absolutely necessary)

-1-3 days of clothes

Currently I’ve only found the satchel and page weekender which might work but looking for alternatives that might be less expensive.

Thanks

Looking for recommendations for a tote bag for outings to the park. Needs to be big enough to carry some snacks and water bottles and a couple of sweaters.

I currently use a reusable shopping bag and I’d like something a little more stylish and that I can put over my shoulder if necessary.

Bellroy venture ready sling as fanny pack?

The BVRS is a decent 2.5L and I’m curious if anyone uses it primarily around the waist instead of as a sling. Not sure if the loops around bag that retain band will prevent it from wearing in a comfortable and functional way.

Current fanny pack is approx 1.5L and has great organization but feels crowded when completely packed out so considering the size up. I’m torn between the Fjallraven high coast hip pack, Bellroy venture hip pack or sizing up to the BVRS IF it can work as a fanny pack

Thanks y’all

Best personal item which can be used as daypack?

Hey there, I’m planning my next trip and thought about getting a new bag which can be used as an personal item and as daypack at my destination. I think that I need some about 25-30l. The bag should be water resistant, plenty of space for my camera, kindle, tech pouch and a elevated and padded laptop compartment.

My first few weeks with the Evergoods CPL16... Almost Perfect!

Long time reader, first time poster. I've been looking for an EDC backpack that can easily hold my camera gear (Fujifilm XT5 and a few prime lenses) with my 14" MBP along with extra space for tech gear and accessories (rainjacket, gym clothes, etc.). I'd also like for it be able to carry by 16" Dell work laptop when I've traveling for work. I was looking for a multif-purpose (e.g. not a dedicated camera) bag. I've had the Wandrd Prvk 21L for a while, and while I like the bag, it was just way too big (both on me and for my usage). I was gifted a Nomatic Luma 18L backpack last holiday season, and it arrived in March. It's a great camera backpack, but it's not really great for my other uses (not many useful pockets). So I've been browsing here, and I kept getting drawn to the Evergoods CPL24 and CPL16. Since the Prvk 21L is too big for me, I figure the CPL 24 would be as well. Since the Luma 18L feels too small for me, I was skeptical that the CPL16 wouldn't be big enough. But there was just something about the style of it that kept drawing me back. After contemplating for a few weeks, I order the CPL 16, and I'm impressed!

I've had it for just over two weeks now, and I've taken on a weekend trip to Cumberland Island, GA followed by a photo assignment in Florida. I paired it with my decade old Patagonia Black Hole as my only bags for the total week long trip. I've biked, boated, flown, attended work meetings, and walked with the bag under different load-outs.

Pros:

  • For a 16L bag, it deceptively spacious. I able to fit my MPB 14", XT5, 4 prime lenses, dual camera battery charger, 4 extra camera batteries, external flash with charger, large battery pack, hard cover notebook, extra camera strap, sunglasses, keys, airpods, pens, external hard drives, and several charging cables (with room to spares). I've included photos of my load out.
    • I keep most of the camera and laptop accessories in a CAP2, which takes up a lot of space in the main compartment. I love the CAP2, but it's just big. I think there are other accessory cases out there with the same capacity and smaller footprint (any recommendations?), and if one exists, that means even more capacity available in the main compartment.
  • I love that the laptop compartment has space for other larger, flat items. I even tested it with both the MPB14 and Dell 16" laptops in the laptop compartment, and they fit (but it's very tight). I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with this setup often, but it's nice to know that it's possible to carry both laptops.
  • I really like the side carry handle with the aluminum reinforcement. It's great for grabbing the bag from the car or gym locker and carrying it short distances.
  • The pocket placements just work. It was super easy for me to find and access things quickly.
  • It fits great under an airline seat with room to spare (photo attached). Using the Prvk 21L as my underseat carry on left no room for my feet.
  • I like the extra attachment points next to the handles. I've attached a carabiner to them to carry a water bottle, hats, or other items.

Cons:

  • I love the idea of the yoke pocket, but it just doesn't hold much. Keys, airpods, and a pack of gum pretty much fill the space. I'd like to be able to stash my phone and wallet in there when going through airport security, and its just too tight (but the front zip pocket works just as well for this use). The pocket feels too shallow, and I'm worried about things falling out.
  • The key leash is in the center of the yoke pocket, so when my keys are attached, they're in the way. It seem like offsetting the key leash to one side would make for more efficient use of the space. I also wonder if the key leash would be better in the front zip pocket.
  • With only two weeks of use, there are already some scuffs on the bag. It's not a big deal or really noticeable, but I'm surprised how fast it happened.
  • I don't find the placement of the top handle very useful. It lower than the top of the back of the bag, so it's not the easist to grab.
  • I wish there was a way to attached the loose ends of the straps so they can easily be managed and out of the way.
  • I've been attaching a Miir water bottle to a carabiner through the attachment points next to the handles. It works, but I wish there were a way to secure the bottom of the bottle so it doesn't move around.

Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the bag. It just works for most of my needs.

Looking for a backpack for my gf

Requirements:

  • water bottle holder
  • laptop compartment - if able to squeeze 2 laptops that will be preferred
  • pastel colours (no black)
  • nothing that looks too bulky
  • looking for something that can be brought to the office

Budget: 200-300

Did some research and I really liked the:

  • peak design totepack
  • bellroy melbourne (but the lack of zip to access the main compartment is a dealbreaker)

Will appreciate any recommendations

Accessories to pack wet/dirty clothes, shoes and large towel inside your bag? [EU]

Hey, I can't find matching / size fitting items for this. I need to keep my bag clean after the sport while all my stuff is wet with sweat. It's easy to find small waterfproof bags for clothes and shoes but nothing for a large towel. If you have any idea...

Recommendations for new backpack

Hello! First post here, long time bag lover. I have had many bags from 5.11, maxpedition, Jansport, and Vanquest. Currently I am carrying a vanquest trident to work and around, but I’ve come to hate the bag after 3 years of use. I’ve come to understand that when it comes to anything other than carrying my laptop and tablet to and from work, I would just prefer a classic design with a large compartment that opens from the top and not the side with plenty of main compartment space for a sweater etc. I have a Jansport I actually carry over the 2-300$ backpacks I have just because I like that sort of layout. Being interested in quality though, I want something like a classic Jansport bag but better quality. I have looked at Tom Bihn, mission workshop and others but none have really met these criteria. I hate side opening bags they make my eye twitch for whatever reason. I guess because of the trident I’ve just become tired of it. Can anyone recommend a “classic” Jansport style type bag that has a nice sized main compartment, top zipper, and perhaps a laptop sleeve but better quality?

Where to advertise bags for sale

Hi all, I have a brand new Shimoda bag to sell, but I don't really know where to advertise it. I was hoping the expert bag buying community could help. I've added it in the buy/sell posts on r/ManyBaggers and r/Onebag and my ebay. Where else could I post it?

Apparently Shimoda are struggling to fulfil orders - there's a huge back log - but how do I tell buyers that I have one they could buy now?

Thanks for any advice

EDC/Travel Sling Recommendations for Front Diagonal Carry

Hi folks.

Taking a trip next week and I have been wanting a nice EDC Sling but having some trouble choosing.

I am 5'7", Male, and will only be carrying this diagonally across the chest and really never as a fanny pack. Maybe occasionally across the back. I know some packs are better suited to this with how the straps attach.

Mostly to fit the usual travel essentials. Passport, travel documents, sunglasses, sunscreen, power bank and cables, etc. I think 4L is the max size I want to carry.

Needs:

  • Front Cross Body Sling (Diagonal Carry across the chest)
  • Grab Handle
  • 3-4L Size
  • All Black
  • Internal Organization
  • Minimalist/stealthy look but not too techy. I prefer the casual retro style bags.

Wants:

  • Water Bottle External Carry if possible (for smaller disposable bottles while traveling)
  • Possibly able to stuff a mirrorless Sony Camera and a Prime Lens inside (bag being slightly "expandable" and able to handle over stuffing)
  • external straps for a jacket, small umbrella, etc

Top picks right now are the Cotopaxi Allpa X 3L, Wandrd D1 (I hear the straps aren't comfortable for long carry), or AER Day Sling 3. Possibly the Chrome Kadet Mini but the bike lock loop is useless to me.

I do really feel like I would use external straps for either a water bottle, or to secure a light jacket or umbrella, or water bottle in while walking around, but not many bags seem to come with them.

Can someone just pick for me, I need to just get it ordered and I'm not really that picky about bags 😂

Would appreciate any alternatives or other suggestions as well. Extra points if I can order it from Amazon Prime because my trip is coming up pretty fast...

Thoughts on T22 Fyro backpack

I am looking for my first premium hybrid bag that can handle my gym/workstuff. I usually carry a 16’ legion slim laptop at school and the tech compartment for this bag is very nice. The expandable 26L is appealing to me whenever i need it for travel and this bag offers practicality on my needs. Since this is a kickstarter project and no reviews at all my concerns are:

-Straps comfort are unknown

-Materials use (as a new to this community i have no ideas on what are premium yet durable materials are)

-design wise abit iffy for me but its alright. Not ugly but not a wow factor in my taste.

-durability, quality and markmanship of the bag

Once i see the kickstarter price, i will probably back this project and goodluck to Nomads nation. Hopefully it would be a success and offers more variety in the future.

Decent backpack for college(cs) and daily commute

Hello everyone! I’m a college student majoring in computer science and currently on the hunt for a new backpack. I’ve been using the tomtoc Navigator-T71 Laptop Backpack 18L, which I like, but it’s starting to feel a bit small for my daily essentials. I carry around one or two notebooks, a water bottle, an umbrella, a MacBook charger, my 14-inch MacBook Pro, a BT mouse, some stationery, and AirPods Pro.

I’ve narrowed down my options to a few backpacks but would love to get your thoughts or suggestions:

  1. Timbuk2 Authority - Link here
    • Seems well-recommended for laptops.
  2. TUMI Alpha Bravo Navigation - Link here
    • It’s on the expensive side, but I really like the professional and clean look.
  3. Briggs and Riley HTA Medium Cargo Backpack - Link here
    • Not as pricey as TUMI but still a bit of an investment. Prefer TUMI’s look more.
  4. Peak Design Everyday Carry V2 20L - Link here
    • This is more of a photographer’s bag, so I’m unsure about its functionality for my needs.

Does anyone have any experiences with these models, or can you recommend other backpacks that might fit my needs? Thanks in advance for your help! Much appreciated.
