Thrift stores

So my family moved here in spring of this year and I don't think we're prepared for the winter that is coming. We come from Washington where all we get is maybe 2ft MAX and they called it a Snow-mageddon. We are still learning the area and the best places to go for things. (all I know is Walmart and Costco) I'm looking for thrift stores that have good winter clothes. Any suggestions?

Local (Non-chain) Veteran's Day Deals?

Used to be the Omaha World Herald would list local, non-chain-owned businesses offering freebies and deals to veterans on Veterans Day, but now they just had a crappy article about an event at Memorial Park last Thursday and the tired repeat of deals at large chains that can be found on Military.com. Does anybody know about any local offers, aside from the Durham (which was today) and the Zoo tomorrow?

Can I have roommates in a Single Family home? Where do I find the regulations on this?

Me, my girlfriend, my buddy, and his girlfriend are all friends. Me and my friend are both active military, and our girlfriends are both nurses. We’re looking to rent a 2 bedroom/3 bedroom house together with all four of us next year to split rent 4 ways just to make things easier and have more space/a garage.

I was looking on Zillow just to brainstorm some potential ideas and I sent my girlfriend a link to a prospect but she said we wouldn’t be able to move into a house if it’s registered as a “single family home”.

Is this a thing? Where do I find the regulations on this stuff?

Specifically looking in the Bellevue area. Keeping Pappillion, Ralston, and South O. In mind. We all have steady income and jobs.

TIA 👋

Donating old books?

I have some old nursing school books and other various books I want to get rid of. I don't want to just dump them, and I'm not looking for money, they're 5-6 years old, so they're no good for current nursing students. Where can I donate them that isn't Goodwill?

Bachelorette Party in Omaha in April - Ideas?

Hello! I am planning a bachelorette party in Omaha at the beginning of April and was looking for some ideas as I'm not from the area. It's a younger group (all under age of 25) so all ideas are welcomed. Planning to do one chillish night and then do one night where we will go out on the town!

What are some bars/clubs in Omaha that deserve more business

Do you know a good place that just seems to need more people? I know we all like to keep our favorite places quiet so they don't get overran. But what about good places that just need a few more people to make it if people just knew about them? Any suggestions? EDIT TO SAY: Pubs, too!

Quality local political coverage?

The World Herald and local news seem to have minimal and biased coverage on the happenings of the city council, mayor’s office and county commissioners…

Any recommendations for legit coverage?

Looking for a repair place for a surround sound subwoofer. Sunfire HS12 subwoofer randomly started making a humming noise. No matter what I’ve tried noise persists. Does anyone know a good shop that does repairs?

Fresh (not fried!) Spring Rolls?

Today seems like a good day to go test some new Thai/Vietnamese restaurants for one of my favorite foods - spring rolls! With fish sauce preferably.

Any suggestions on places I must include?

Small wedding/big reception

Hello guys! I’m in the very early stages of wedding planning. my partner and I have big families, which we love but envision an intimate ceremony with a following larger reception to include them. Anyone done anything similar and have suggestions on venue? or suggestions on how best to manage the logistics of this? I’d appreciate pricing transparency as well, I realize there’s no cheap reception for that amount of people, but hoping to find something reasonable. :) I will also take any burning advice you want to share if you did a big wedding or reception. Thank you!

In need of a Perm on curly hair

We just moved you Omaha this year. My mom has really curly hair and is in need of a perm to loosen her curls. In the past she's had luck with hair dressers that specialize in ethnic hair. She went to a Salon today for a consult and they obviously had no experience working with her hair type

Any salons in the area that would be a good fit? Again, they need to be experienced working with really curly hair

Thanks

Dan Osborn could have beaten Deb Fischer… If he primaried her as a Republican.

Fischer clearly wasn’t prepared to face any actual competition, which is why her campaign did nothing until the very end and then spent $$ like Hell. But it was always going to be a win for her either way.

Toward the end, Osborn ran a campaign of “vote for me and Trump” and also “if Trump wants a wall, I’ll build it” as evidenced by his conservative/populist turn in his political ads.

Osborn still did well in his campaign considering he was an independent. For him, the easiest path to office would have been running in the Republican primary for Senate. If he could have pulled that off, he would have easily coasted to victory in the General Election, running a populist working class campaign.
