Stakes in Yard

Hey reddit. In my neighborhood (I'm around Lincoln Lutheran/56th and Holdredge) and we've got a stake in the corner of our yard with a metal base and I've seen them up and down the street at other corners too. Seemed like Lincoln Utilities was out doing it, but what are they?! 🤣

Does anyone use Walmart+ for grocery orders?

I have an elderly family member that has expressed interest about using Walmart+ for grocery orders. I guess my first question is, in Lincoln is this mostly done by hourly employees that can't be tipped?

Is this mostly third party delivery that will expect being tipped out?

In the past this individual has used door dash and had problems navigating the app. Ended up repeating an order unintentionally. Then there was another instance where they had tipped the driver 20 percent and the driver hounded them for a bigger tip. It is someone on a limited budget so I am trying to make life easier and not more stressful. The driver then proceeded to tell them they were trying to set up their own business outside the app, I think my relative felt cornered and uncomfortable. I apologize for the word vomit. I live in the middle of nowhere and have no clue how all these modern conveniences work.

Sports Book Club

Has anyone started a book club in town? I am thinking about trying to organize one that reads a different sports related book each month (e.g. bios, history, etc.) I lack the social circle to really get this going so I decided to reach out to the community see if there would be any interest. Also, I was trying to brainstorm a meeting location. I was thinking maybe a brewery, bookstore, coffee shop, or quieter bar might be a good place. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Where are the men?

Bars are empty, people don’t go to restaurants no more, bars are closing one after the other. What’s happening? I see more men in the gym than anywhere else

Gyms on south side?

I just canceled my university rec center membership because I've been working from home a lot more, so now I need to find another gym on the south side of Lincoln. Any recommendations?

An indoor track and a pool would be awesome, but aren't necessary. What gyms can you recommend down south?

Krispy Kreme

I’d like to know how Krispy Kreme is still open…. Or is it even? Every time I go there, they’re closed. The one time I did go when they were open they didn’t have donut holes for the kids, which was the only reason I went.

Pre-prepared Thanksgiving Meal

Did anyone else get the pre-prepared Thanksgiving meal from Cracker Barrel for the holiday? If so, how is your family feeling? Need to know if it's just us or something in their supply chain.

Does anyone know of someone doing in-home childcare, for infants, near Southpointe?

I've reached out to every in-home daycare in the area that is listed on the DHHS website and none have an opening.

Does anyone know of someone, like a retired nurse, retired teacher, etc. that is doing in-home childcare?

City Hall: Syphilis cases up sharply in Lancaster County and in Nebraska

Stay classy, Lincoln!

https://journalstar.com/news/local/column/city-hall-syphilis-cases-up-sharply-in-lancaster-county-and-in-nebraska/article_6c898400-aeae-11ef-ab56-4b5377120d63.html#tracking-source=home-top-story

https://12ft.io/proxy

While two sexually transmitted infections that peaked during the height of the pandemic in Lancaster County have been trending downward since then, syphilis cases have spiked. Oh yeah? Which two went down?

The trends in Lancaster County follow national trends, particularly for syphilis — a sharp increase that prompted the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in January to create a task force to address an 80% increase in cases nationally between 2018 and 2022. The task force is expected to be disbanded on January 20 2025 before the sun goes down.

One possible point of light: By the end of September this year, 37 cases had been reported in Lancaster County, down from 40 cases at the same time last year. One possible point of light? Less editorializing and more news.

That's all I can do. The CRAP writing that passes for news makes my eyes bleed

Monthly Buy/Sell/Trade thread

We have decided to implement a monthly thread in which users can buy, sell, and advertise--breaking rules #1 and #2--so as long as it is contained within this thread.

Comments will be sorted by "new" by default.

Use this thread to:

* List items OR services that you are attempting to sell. While not required, you are encouraged to list the price(s) you are requesting.

* Solicit items OR services you are in search of or in need of. Again, while not required, you are encouraged to list a price you're comfortable paying.

* Advertise anything and everything, so as long as it is still relevant to Lincoln--promote a concert for your new local band, advertise a sale your local shop is having, etc.

We don't anticipate too much traffic or comments on this thread, but wanted to make it available to those who might enjoy or benefit from having it.

Lastly, if you do ultimately pursue offers posted here, PLEASE be aware that scams are rampant. Help protect yourself by following some of these (personal) recommendations.

Do NOT:

* Accept a personal check, ever. Or a money order or cashiers check that you were not present for when the individual purchased/obtained it.

* Use an electronic app to transfer funds. This includes, but is not limited to, Venmo, Cashapp, PayPal, Zelle, etc. While this seems easiest, it's **incredibly easy to get screwed over** with people sending you funds that they don't actually have.

DO:

* Accept **only** cash for smaller/medium purchases. For larger purchases, insist that you meet the individual at their bank and be present while the bank verifies and issues a cashiers check right there, on the spot.

* Meet in a public place. For example, if you're buying a phone, there's no better place to complete the transaction than inside of a Verizon or T-Mobile store.

Let us know if you have any questions or feedback. Have a great month!

Looking for job advice

Hello 27 year old male here. No college degree just high school diploma. Just seeing if people could give me advice on different jobs here in Lincoln that I should apply for. I’m looking for a full time job kinda urgently. I have experience in retail which I do not want to go back to, powder coating and basic manufacturing type work, lawn care, and a little bit of cooking. Maybe some insight into what kind of companies I should look into/ apply for or certain fields I should go into?

Recommendations for a nose job and deviated septum?

So my nose has been crooked for a while and I've wanted to get it fixed. I also likely have a deviated septum so getting both done would be awesome. I have a doc in mind for deviated septum but he doesn't do plastic surgery. Does anyone have any recommendations for a surgeon who does nose jobs? I'd be fine if it was in Omaha too.

Looking for a Lutheran Church

I’m looking for a Lutheran church in the Lincoln area. Specifically one that IS NOT a Missouri Synod church. ELCA is my main preference. I also want something that has traditional services, nothing too contemporary. Evening services would be a bonus as well. Any suggestions?

Recommendations for wintertime Toddler Activities

Temperatures are finally changing, and thus, the park is less enjoyable for the 1.5 year old… we also have zoo membership, planning doing some YMCA stuff soon and of course we know the Children’s Museum :) but I’m looking for more ideas to spice up the indoor energy releasing activities. Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Shout out to new local restaurant!

I was inspired by how reddit came to support L's Kitchen recently, so wanted to give a shout out to the new Cuban restaurant (open 6 mo) on Pine Lake and 27th (in southpointe strip mall where Pepperjax used to be)... Utra's Caribbean restaurant. We went for lunch, expecting to order off the menu, but learned they had a very affordable lunch buffet ($11) and decided to try.

It didn't disappoint! The buffet is very meat heavy, so good for those who are trying to stay low carb. However, lots of fresh fruit on the salad bar and other unique things like yucca and plantains.

I wanted to post as it saddened me that the place was empty while we were there. This is the only Cuban restaurant in Lincoln as far as I'm aware and wanted to share the love for them as I hate to see local places with slow business. Give it a try if you haven't!

If I sell the car do I have to pay park and go ?

They are trying to get me to pay $20 for my tire being a quarter inch on the sidewalk. Anyways. Just figured I’d rather sell my car than give this organization money. Would I get in-trouble?
