/r/MalaysianFood is a food subreddit dedicated to all Malaysian food and to connect all Malaysian food lovers. Photos, discussions, videos, history, recipes, memes, news & blogs about Malaysian cuisine. Recipes and your homemade dishes are especially welcome.

Welcome to the Malaysian food subreddit. Perhaps you are here because you are a Malaysian, living locally or abroad, longing to relive the tastes and scents of the food you ate here. Or you are from another country that have visited Malaysia or enjoyed a Malaysian meal in a restaurant. Whatever the case, you will find this subreddit a fascinating insight into the culture, history and people behind the variety of Malaysian food.

This sub aims to immerse you in the true experience of Malaysian food that has been greatly influenced by its wonderfully multicultural population, from local ethnic communities to the Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, Arab and European people. After looking at our immense selection of noodle and rice dishes found nowhere else, meat and seafood dishes drenched in fiery and punchy spices, and exotic desserts spun out of indigenous ingredients, you will soon discover that Malaysians have adventurous taste buds, and learn why food is indeed Malaysia’s national obsession.

/r/MalaysianFood Subreddit Rules:

1. Post about Malaysian Food

What does it mean to be Malaysian food?

Malaysian food includes:

  • Local food from within Malaysia and all over the world.
  • Foreign food found in Malaysia (After all, much of our current food started as "foreign food" brought in by immigrants.
  • Malaysia-influenced food innovations from all over the world (e.g. rendang pizza, nasi lemak cake, laksa ramen etc.)
  • All homecooked food by Malaysians.
  • Debatable Singaporean/Indonesian/Bruneian food #doneclaim

2. Be kind and respectful to others / No rude, abusive, racist, hateful or discriminatory behaviours

Food brings us together; Rude, abusive, racist, hateful or discriminatory actions do not. Please be kind and respectful of others when posting in the subreddit. Those who post/incite/encourage rude, abusive, racist, hateful or discriminatory behaviour will NOT be tolerated and will be banished from the makan table [aka ban].

3. Do not spam or create a post linking directly to restaurants or products for sale

Do not spam. Links can be included in the comments. Anything that feels too much like spam or direct advertisement could be removed at the mods' discretion.

4. Flair your posts appropriately

Please select the correct or most appropriate flair for your posts in the subreddit. The correct flair helps keep a consistent experience for everyone in the subreddit, eg. enabling easy filtering using RES or the subreddit search.

Consistently selecting the inappropriate/wrong flair is poor etiquette and degrades the experience for everyone. Malicious inappropriate flair selection can be considered spam at mods' discretion.

5. Rules above are not exhaustive

The rules above are not exhaustive and the moderation team at their discretion may apply additional rules unlisted from the above or take action against users, posts, and comments behaving in ways deemed vulgar, disruptive, unsuitable, inappropriate, etc in the best interest of the subreddit.

In summary: Please behave yourself as you would be in person and in public per Reddiquette

First time in Malaysia

Hi everyone! I'm visiting Kuala Lumpur for the first time on a business trip, but I'm also excited to experience Malaysian food while I'm there. I'll have some free time after work and on weekends.

I love trying new dishes and exploring different food cultures. Any recommendations on must-try Malaysian foods or local spots I shouldn’t miss? I'd also love tips on unique places to eat or insights on Malaysian food culture
