How to Get the Most out of Your Post

Include a photo of the problem. You can upload to imgur.com for free and it's easy to do. One photo should contain enough information for people to understand the immediate area around the problem (dense shade, extremely sloped, etc.). Other photos should include close-ups of the grass or weed in question: such as this, this, or this. The more photos or context to the situation will help us identify the problem and propose some solutions.

How remove 'Buzzies'

Tasmania Midlands

I've been trying to turn this patch of weed ridden paddock into a lawn. Going alright but the dogs keep bringing these buzzies in.

I've laid some grass seed mid December which is going alright but hesitant to attack with a selective herbicide encase the grass isn't strong enough yet

How do I get rid of em?

My Dogs have shredded my yard. Anybody have any advice?

I have a couple of large dogs (80+ lbs) and they like to run and wrestle in certain areas of my yard. After a couple of years of this, they have absolutely decimated the grass in these areas. Anybody have any recommendations about what to do/plant in order to have some coverage here? Trying to keep them from tracking in mud all the time is maddening. I’m in the Dallas area and would rather a drought tolerant solution, but if that’s not in the cards I am willing to water. Thanks!

Toro Mower Question/Help

I have a toro lawn mower self propel. Whenever I use the self propel if I lift it up on its rear wheels it spins, but when I use the mower it has a hard time propelling itself forward. Any ideas?

I have 2 toros that's why I know it's not working properly.

For clarification, it's like it doesn't have enough power to move forward wheels do not lock

Midwest lawn prone to moss, but grass is growing?

Trying to prepare more for next year. Removed a lot of moss and tilled some rough areas last year, aerated, then reseeded roughly 5,000sf. My yard seems incredibly prone to moss despite all this. The new seed took fine for the most part but I noticed towards the end of the year that moss was sprouting up again a lot. The density of the grass doesn’t seem terribly impacted but I can’t figure out how to stop it all together at this point. Watered originally 5 days a week, 10 minutes a zone, until the grass had reached 2” and was ready for first mow then cut back to 3 days a week for like 25 minutes per zone. Am I just watering way too much?

I think we're about a week or two away from yard onions.

I know weeds are bad...But, Personally, it's the BEST sign of Spring. And, in my area, January was below normal by a mile. I'm ready, warmer weather next week, gonna go out and mow those onions, then sit on the porch with a drink. #Thaw

Lawn basics?

Just purchased new home with very large backyard. Most of it is covered in weeds right now. I’m thinking about installing a lawn about 2k sq ft. Sod? Seed? What to do with the rest of the yard?

Renovating clay yard and laying sod. Hows this plan?

Inherited yard with a mix of centipede, st Augustine, clover, but mostly various grasses and weeds. It’s just sparse and doesn’t look nice plus my dogs tear it up in the winter when it’s dormant and weeds are gone. Want to lay zoysia sod which will handle traffic better.

Yard gets great sun (6-8 hours). Had a soil test done. The macro levels look good. I did a big core aeration last spring and put down humichar probably four times during the summer and fall, but I want to keep working on the clay since it’s quite compacted.

Process was going to be:

  • Run a sod cutter to take up the grasses and weeds that are there now. I know most people hit it with glyphosate and rake/till, but was worried about the dogs with that much round up and I want to have the height of the lawn after sod match up to where it is now.

  • Core aerate then lay down compost and rake it in. This sounds dumb to me with no grass but my idea here is to get as much relief from clay as possible.

  • Lay down sod. Water it in. Profit.

Any advice? Thanks!

Suggestions on pre-emergent/seeding for spring?

Like the topic says, I have a yard that always has weeds and definitely know I need to add a pre-emergent. But also had some grading and seeding laid down end of fall and the seeds never took so I have a few patches of nothing but dirt/mud. When should I do both / or either? Seed first? And proper time… this is my weeks weather report in GA currently but it has been a bit cold. Greatly appreciate any advice!

New Build regular seeding or hydroseed?

Hello! My husband and I are settling on a currently being constructed spec home the first week of April, we never planned on purchasing a new build home but the stars aligned and it just was the right fit.

So we didn’t build this thing from scratch and didn’t get to pick any of the timeline. They are offering us the option to hydroseed the lawn for an extra charge. (We are waiting to hear that exact number from the builder before we agreed.)

We don’t really have any idea if the process would even be worth it assuming we don’t mind the extra charge. So the house is in Zone 7a, is set to be completed March 31, 2025 meaning it’s likely the seeding will happen mid-March.

Without thinking of money would that seem like a good option to help us jumpstart the lawn or would it be better to wait and have someone come in to remedy the lawn after a year of getting the regular seed to take? (AKA save the extra cost and just mess with it another year?)

Electric leaf, litter and debris vacuums f

What electric (corded or batterry) options are avaivable for leaf, litter and debris vacuums? Billy Goat and Troy build are all gas powered and not sold in California. Saw Elgee 634-E electric vacuum but can't find dealer and it looks pricey.

We service a few properties with walkways and poolside area where clients don't allow leaf blowers.

Am I fooling myself ?

I’ve been battling my Tall Fescue lawn for years now. Am in East TN. Zone 6B I think nowadays. Spending around $3000 a year or make when you factor in weed services, overseeding, big summer sprinkler water bills etc.

The lawn still never looks good. Always has patches, or some kind of issues, etc.

So I am thinking of nuking the entire thing and redoing the entire lawn with some kind of high performance Bermuda. I understand I’ll have a brown lawn but the trade off as I understand it will be:

  1. Full green lawn in season with ability to fix itself
  2. Will choke out other weeds etc so don’t need to spend that money with lawn service yearly
  3. Don’t need to overseed every year in fall.

Options exist if I care to have green lawn in winter. Ie: spray it green, seed some rye in etc.

Am I missing anything here or is this more or less accurate ?

Spring Seeding, am I on the right track? Zone 8a- Bermuda grass

While I want to try this in the fall for best success, sometimes you have to make your wife happy and get a yard going. I have already gotten an initial soil sample taken and have been putting lime in my yard since November. I have 80 more lbs to get down, and am putting down 40 today. When would be the best time to put down the other 40? I think my neighbor has a tiller if that would help with the application.

If I understand everything, my next step would be to put down Preemergent weed killer. Is that something I can do immediately after my lime application? There is also some current weeds I need to manage. I am going to try and pull as much as I can, but what spot treatment should I use.

After that, do I just seed and water? Or is there another step I am missing? Fairly new to doing this so any advice and feedback is appreciated!

How to fill sod.

I let this corner go this summer due to few other properties. Will aerating and overseeding restore and make it look fuller like me neighbors part there, or should I cut out dead parts and plug with new sod?

2yr old sod. Zone 5.

Mid winter care/tips?

In the mid Atlantic area. Resodded with fescue in the summer. Did soil treatment with humic fertilizer after the roots set in. Did a reseed during fall and made sure to keep all debris off before we had our first snow a few months after.

Now were in a mid winter break, Im sure well get another dump of snow before spring makes a real showing.

Should I take advantage of this break with another feed or fertilizer? Took a couple weeks for all the snow to finally melt this go around. Or do I just let the lawn just be a lawn?

TIA

Dethatching and scalping Bermuda

Is it too early to dethatch and scalp Bermuda? In DFW, going to be in the 70’s for the foreseeable future.
