How to Get the Most out of Your Post
Include a photo of the problem. You can upload to imgur.com for free and it's easy to do. One photo should contain enough information for people to understand the immediate area around the problem (dense shade, extremely sloped, etc.). Other photos should include close-ups of the grass or weed in question: such as this, this, or this. The more photos or context to the situation will help us identify the problem and propose some solutions.

Hi guys I let my lawn get crazy overgrown (knee high) I mowed it a week ago and the new grass is more a thick stalky kind of grass. It kinda got flattened and has now gone brown.
I wonder how can I get normal grass back for cheap. Can I do anything to help the regular grass that is left multiply? Cheers

After some feedback from my previous post and pms from a few users, I dethatched and reseeded on September 23. The photo is from today. Thank you to this community for the help!
I live on O’ahu, which has a pretty serious cat problem. So much so that our ACPA and Humane society are not accepting stray/trapped cats. Now, I have tried all types of repellent: cayenne pepper, lavender, roesemary, cinnamon, citrus peels, and even chemical repellents. Ive placed rocks where I can (I live a part of an HOA and am limited to what I can grow/plant as well as add to my fence and planters). I have even purchased ultrasonic cat repellents off Amazon. I also recently got two puppies that I am hoping will scare them off as they grow up. Yet, they still continue to poop in my yard and on my lawn.
I’m beginning to think these strays have evolved to withstand anything 😭. I feel as if I’m running out of possible solutions. I read that motion sensor sprinklers may help, and put in an order for those today. But I thought I would check and ask if anybody knows anything else I can try that is a FOR SURE deterrent to keep the strays away from my property? I don’t want to harm them but I also have no clue who in my neighborhood may be feeding them. I’ve asked around my street, and nobody seems to know.
I have an old flowerbed I gutted leaving a nice raised area of dirt that I'd like to seed in a backyard putting green.
I plan on digging a hole and using a 6" long piece of 4" pipe for the hole.
What kind of seed should I use?
I'm in south Texas btw btw.
I have a half acre property with a lot of trees and leaves. Looking to invest in something well built in the 2-3k price range. Is s 42'' John Deere from a John Deere dealer my best option or something else? Id love to buy used but I don't know enough about what to look for it avoid.
Hello! I’m in the North Texas area. What should I do with this patch of area? It’s up against part of my foundation, side walk, and driveway. This is a small patch of dirt at my front door.
I'm in the process of getting rid of my Bermuda grass lawn, and am always pulling the stolons and rhizomes from my garden. I would like to know if, after I remove the weeds, I leave them on the sidewalk to dry out, does that kill it or does it just go dormant? I'm wondering if I can safely compost the weeds without risk of them re growing later.
Similarly, I planted some trees last week after removing a circular patch of Bermuda grass sod. If I let that piece of sod dry out can I think use it to build a berm without risk of it re growing?
Newly established lawn. Seed down on Aug 28th. A fescue, rye, and KBG mix.
Curious if anybody has seen such a distinct patch of lighter grass like this one.
(Just ran it over with the mower to mulch the leaf litter).
We had a hot and extremely dry fall where I live (Zone 5A) with only 1.6" of rain from Labor Day until yesterday. I fertilized around labor day and it was watered in shortly after, but my lawn was dormant for the vast majority of September and October - I only had to mow twice during that time. I usually apply a second round of fertilizer in November as a winterizer. Since there was such little growth during the fall this year, I'm questioning if I should be doing my typical late application or if the nutrients I applied were stored and never really used up.
Anyone have advice?
I live in Southwestern Ontario and am looking for a solid Lawncare plan for the 2025 season. My plan is to thatch, cut the lawn low, blow and bag all clippings, spread top soil and overseed entire existing lawn. I want to incorporate some early spring fertilizer in with the Overseeding but just not sure when.
This is my plan for entire season…
1)Early / Mid April - thatch, cut the lawn low, blow and bag all clippings, spread top soil and overseed entire lawn. Incorporate Scotts® Turf Builder® Starter Lawn Food before/during or after Overseeding process
2)Late May - apply Scotts® Turf Builder® Lawn Food
3)Early July - apply Scotts® Turf Builder® Green MAX® Lawn Food
4)Mid September - spread topsoil and overseed lawn
5)Mid October - apply Scotts® Turf Builder® Fall Lawn Food
I was considering applying in mid March / early April, Scotts® Turf Builder® Weed & Feed₅ but I’ve heard you cannot spread grass seed within 8 weeks of applying this since it will not allow the seeds to germinate. I wouldn’t mind incorporating this product at some point but I just don’t know when. The other thing I’m not sure about is for the spring Overseeding, should I incorporate the fertilizer before/during or after the Overseeding process. And should I be using the Scotts® Turf Builder® Starter Lawn Food for the spring Overseeding or another Scott’s fertilizer product ?
I feel like this is a decent plan but if anybody has any suggestions or recommendations, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you !!
