A shutterstock image, to showcase how hilariously ignorant people can be. Here is 1 of millions of acres of flat grass land, un-unitilized by farm or forest. I love how clean it is, the line work is great, the terrain is flat enough for a soccer game. Landscapers did great
Not sure if this is the correct subreddit to post about retaining walls. But I recently had these c channels installed and they stand out a lot. Anyone have any ideas what sort of decoration I can do to cover them up and make the back hill a bit nicer?
Reinforced a pallet with some 2x4s with a strong chain weighted for 2000lbs. This way the pallet would break before the chain snapped.
The coolest part which was unexpected is that the pallet actually caught big rocks and leaves!
I am obviously renovating the backyard and just laid down about 6 yards of compost that I integrated into the soil which was 80% weeds before I stripped it down.
Bagged a bunch of weeds and “grass clippings” let it all dry out and die in the sun for about a week (hasn’t rained in 2 months). Seeded it and applied some starter fertilizer after getting my soil tested at my local extension office and here we are!
I’m seeking landscape and hardscape design software that enables users to overlay elements like trees, bushes, and other features onto a photo of the client’s property, placing them in the desired areas for a realistic visualization. ? What do you recommend?
Recently I purchased a car with the primary price $13850. Down payment $ 4000. Interest rate 9.49% Can anyone make some calculations please? Duration 75 months. I am not sure if they did it correctly. To me looks like they forgot to count the amount of down payment. Thank you in advance
I’m looking for some advice on how to spruce up the area by my fence (see attached picture). I was initially thinking of using white rocks to create a clean, low-maintenance look, but I’m open to any other creative ideas you all might have.
One thing I’m mindful of is the amount of leaves that fall in this area.
Hi everyone, i just started doing side jobs and I've never really worked for myself before. I have someone that needs a lemon tree trimmed. I'm thinking I'm going to trim the top down 2-3 feet below the roofline and take a couple feet off the sides. What would you guys charge for something like that?
Looking for suggestions on what to plant in this spot.
Because of the overhang, it's always shaded.
So far l'm considering ferns, hydrangeas, or hostas (in that order).
My preference is something that doesn't need too much watering but I can water a couple times of weeks.
Zone 9-10 (near SFO airport)
I want to put grass here and it’s mostly soil and small to medium rocks. About 3 inches down it’s larger rocks and soil that’s hard to get past with a hoe/shovel. I’ve thought of laying putting weed fabric, gravel, and pavers for a fire pit area but think I’d prefer grass now.
The previous homeowner used this area filled with wood chips. It’s got raspberries on the left but also weeds like Canadian thistle (I just dug them up trying to get as deep as I could for the roots).
How do I approach eventually laying grass seed? I thought of using weed b gonna kill the thistle more. Thought about mulching but not sure how that will affect my soil and grass seed down the road. I just want to kill the raspberries and as much as the thistle (I know they’re resilient)
Thanks in advance!
Greetings. I am getting ready to order a delivery of mulch. I calculated that I would need 8 cubic yards.
My driveway can accommodate 6 cars - maybe more.
The composting company that does delivery cannot give me dimensions on how much space will be required. I don't want to block my garage access. They also told me that they just dump and cannot dump and roll to lengthen the spread of load.
Additionally, should I be concerned about the weight of the dump truck with it's load on my driveway? My home is about 57 years old and original driveway.
Thank you in advance.
Where: San Francisco bay area (San Leandro).
What: This morning there was a MASSIVE swarm of small winged insects in the air all around my property and my neighbor across the street. So many that if you weren't careful you would inhale some. They were flying up from the ground, all over the place. Investigation found "piles" of them in spots all swarming around before flying away. Only guessing that they were letting their wings dry out before being able to fly off (it had rained a bit this morning and the sun was now out all bright and warm). Close inspection of them: Without any doubt at all they were/are termites. No doubt about it. Digging into the ground where swarms were still on ground we could find the little white termites (like what you would typically find if you cut open a piece of wood infested with termites).
Now what?: So far I've not found any source on internet stating that subterranean termites are attracted to and live in/around wood chip mulch. However, the one unique thing about my property and my neighbors is that we do not have lawns and instead have it all dry-scaped with wood chip/bark mulch. Been that way for 15 years. So a LOT of decayed/decomposed mulch over the years.
I've see this before a number of blocks (perhaps 1/4 mile) down the road a few years ago while walking by a house with same sort of dry-scape with wood chip mulch. The owner was out spraying poison with a little spray bottle. He informed me that they were termites (I already knew since I know what a termite looks like, having spent years on East Coast in Georgia and South Carolina).
I can't imagine tenting my entire property. So what does one do? Ignore it and hope they don't move into my home? My understanding is that subterranean termites live in the dirt even when they are eating your wooden house. They simply crawl through tunnels they build to get to the wood, fill up, and go back down into the dirt?

It’s been like 5 years since I planted. I got a late start and did it in the beginning of November and by thanksgiving I had the softest lawn I’ve ever seen.
But I can’t remember at what stage I went around and filled in spots that didn’t look like they were coming in.
Thoughts? I had pavers installed around my entire house, as well as new plants installed in my planter, turf was installed in the past. This project is done, the final walkthrough is tomorrow.
I feel like it's shoddy work overall, they did not screed during install, but I at least had them redo some spots where the grade was towards the house. The ground is also very sandy as of right now and it rained last night, we get very light rain here. The overall project cost was 26k in NorCal.
Side - really sandy/dirty here
Front Yard - rocks seem too high
Side leading to front, they left my turf like this
I wanted to build a tennis court but don’t have enough space, any ideas on like a sporting court or something else?
I live in Charleston, SC. Ive had three of these crepe Myrtle trees for years and this year, two of them got this black bark scale on it. I’ve tried some sprays and dawn soap but nothing seems to be working! Any advice?
