Hi I have a 12,000 sf yard. and it has nothing on it but just grass. It also has a road on one side so noise mitigation is one of the goals.
Where should I start for ideas? I am DIY if possible due to budget.
Any suggestions.
Area houston tx.
Hey you guys!
I have been wanting to do something to the front of my house on the sides of the stairs. I’ve looked at Pinterest and seen some cute stuff with mulch, plants and bricks or other things. The color of the stairs/porch and foundation of the house will change soon, I’m not sure what color. I just want to give my home a make over and get it looking nice! Any ideas are absolutely welcome! My bf and I don’t have green thumbs but, we are willing to learn and want to have a fun spring project.
Thanks! ❤️
Hi everyone! New to this sub and embarrassed to say I know very little. I have this unfinished side yard, about 500 sq ft, and want to just make it look presentable. Was thinking either mulch or DG. Basically, just stable enough to place tables during parties but otherwise this part of the yard is sight unseen.
How big of a project are we talking here? And any recommendations between mulch vs gravel vs DG?
Thanks in advance!
Hi r/landscaping!
Hoping someone here can help. I had some Date Palms planted early December.
A week ago, we had some really strong winds that look like it damaged a few of the crowns of some of them. Pics attached.
Does anyone know if they will survive? If so, how to care for them so that they grow straight rather than at the new angle the crown is pointing at. Any other tips?
Thank you!
Dude someone please advise me on this… lived in this house for 5 years… this area of our yard during winter is always sopping wet. It’s kind of a low spot but this summer I had a Harley rake and grading the dirt to more level than it was and laid all new sod… it was beautiful until dreaded January once it reached single digits and started raining every other day… what the play here? Adding a French drain? Don’t know if you can tell but the grade slopes towards the house slightly. And after a big rain it creates thatch and mud everywhere. With two dogs and a toddler the house floors get dirty constantly because of this. (Bermuda and southeastern US) thanks
Hi! Looking to build a social media account (most likely instagram) Anyone know of any good ones with great followings so I can get some inspiration?
So I live in a water-plane area in the UK, when it rains my garden floods and can quite heavily even 12-14” deep in some parts. In a house association property who declined fitting a soakaway or similar as garden maintenance is my responsibility bar fences between properties. On a tight budget but the flooding is getting crazy these days and takes up to a week to drain away and make the garden semi-usable bar the sludgy mud. Pretty sure it’s majority clay based so very squishy. Any help appreciated on best ways to get it more manageable and usable? The garden slopes down so the far end is higher than the end nearest property and is very uneven with dips and highs all over due to last tenant dumping construction/home waste including whole bags of construction sand and broken tiles
We're getting ready to do some landscaping improvements to part of our yard this spring. I would love some advice on how to reduce the amount of snow/ice buildup on the path that runs along the shady side of our house.
It's currently got a bit of a slope to it, but I want to add a retaining wall to hold in the soil and level it out.
Any groundcover materials that would help? We have breeze or gravel in mind, but would that help with drainage, or just make it harder to shovel?
Thanks!
Going to re gravel my driveway soon it’s washed out over a span of 3 years. Tips for dealing with giant mud holes first. Then best way to keep from washing out and staying together.
Hi all,
We are having issues with wild boar digging up our yard in Four Corners, FLA. Interesting thing is, we are the only yard being targeted. Our neighbor said that it has to do with the fertilizer our landscaper is using. No other homeowner uses a service for their lawn. I am looking for recommendations on how to proceed.
Thanks
We moved into our house in the fall and are now getting to the backyard and what to with it. It has one already terraced area and then it goes up a bit and has a little dip and then goes up again. We want more flat green space and maybe an area for a fire pit. We want to clear all those random bushed and get rid of all the ivy. But other than that we have no idea what to do with the yard to get more usable space. Any ideas would be helpful!
what are some possible solutions i can get to prevent these puddles from forming in the divets in my patio? It is just this area shown in the picture.
Good afternoon, friends! We have this bed in front of our house that was overrun with mint and weeds when we moved in. We repeatedly cleared them out but they keep growing back! After the latest clearing, we also planted bulbs of peonies and tulips for my wife, but now that they’re growing back, we’re wondering if there’s a way to fully get rid of the mint and weeds without harming the bulbs? Willing to use literally anything to make it happen at this point.
I own a home in a residential historic district on a gradual to medium sized hill. The neighbor uphill decided grass was to hard to take care of and wanted more room to store his vehicles.
So he had a dump truck full of pea gravel dumped on his lot. He’s a nice guy, we get along fine but understand he didn’t think of drainage or negative effects it may have. Like blowing out the retaining wall and fence that once was there and continuing to pour gravel and water into my lot.
Whose responsibility is this? What would you do?
Thanks
In zone 10b, I have a patch of artifical turf I'd like to pull up and replace with white clover. Under the turf is crushed gravel, and under that is desert sand. I dont want to remove the gravel. I was thinking of laying ~3 inches of compost before seeding. Any recommendations?
Zone 5B.
Have a slope on a portion of my yard. Basically starts into a forest. We had tick problems so I cleaned the hill up real nice as it was mostly vines and weedy trees.
Transplanted many hostas there & they did alright, marigolds not so much(both are supposed to repel ticks).
It stays pretty dry without watering until we get big enough rain, in which case the yard at the bottom of the slope gets sopping wet.
I do plan on adding French drains on the slope, but what plants could I add in low sun/ dry soil conditions to absorb water?
I want to spray our pea gravel with glue, its in our dog run. Which glue is the best?
