From the Ordovician period starfish are such stunning fossil Self preparing and digging. Location: Morocco
This beach find is a nearly undamaged Pleistocene wolf (/early Holocene wolf/dog) vertebra. It was found at a North Sea beach known for ice age mammal fossils.
What is this and how many years do you think?
Today at Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
Consisting of 10 complete vertebrae, 3 partials and 3 partial neural arches. I found this in South Gloucestershire, UK, in early Spring this year and have just finished preparing it.
I will pretend it is a claw until proven otherwise.
What do y’all think of my gar?
Not bad for two hours. Honestly this area out near LaGrange is packed with goodies falling off the roadside cliffs. (One photo upload limit is a bummer)
A nice, recently found Eutrochocrinus crinoid calyx that was mostly weathered free from the encrinite. This specimen will be a quick and easy clean up project, and should look nice when finished.
A nice Uperocrinus calyx I recently finished cleaning up. The calyx is great shape, and has a bit of the anal tube present.
Since the first post seemed to be enjoyed figured I'd share more. If y'all want to see more I can post more just didn't want to spam the sub since I can't post an album of them all. most of the pics are just the shell guys but there's a few probably tube worms, a leaf maybe, and a coral skeleton I think.
Found this early this morning on the beach, any ideas on what it could of come from?
There were a bunch of them scattered around in the various colors of marbel tile
Took me 25 minutes and a really sore arm to use my geological hammer and extract it from the cliff matrix, and then it went flying into a puddle (all I could see at the start was a tiny protrusion). Then I hammered (yes, hammered) the matrix on it away, as it is very robust. Then I also used my fingernails to scratch off loose matrix under running water and then used my scool teacher's Dremel to chip off ugly matrix. The outer rim turned out much better than I had expected. The back is wonderful too.
I found this internal gastropod cast on a fossil hunt in upstate New York. I was extremely pleased with its quality and the little cleaning required to achieve its current state. This is, and will continue to be, one of my most prized fossils in my collection.
