Anyone have a lead on an Italian place that serves a decent Cotechino? Figured my chances would be highest around this time of year. Thanks in advance!
Going into the City on Sunday not too familiar with NYC and looking for any places to stop while I’m in the city
My spouse and I will be visiting New York City later this month, and we’re looking for a special place to celebrate New Year’s Eve. We’d love to enjoy a great meal and a festive atmosphere, but there are so many options that we’re a bit overwhelmed!
We’re open to any type of cuisine and are looking for a place that feels unique and memorable. Bonus points if it offers great views. Budget for 2 persons is $300 or a bit over.
Any recommendations? Would love to hear your suggestions!!
Started in a bank this past Aug after graduating and the team is going out for a holiday dinner to Keen's. I'm the only new analyst and the rest of the team are all very senior people. The team + me will be a total of 5 people
I haven't been to Keen's before - how do these types of things go? Is it automatically assumed that everyone will order their own steak, given that this place has meat huge portions? If it is shared, ex 1-2 for the table, I'm going to just let everyone else decide among themselves. If not shared, the taste of mutton (even that's big for me) and a side dish/salad. I am confident in my table manners, but if anyone has any tips on what to expect, I would appreciate it as I'm going in blind here. I don't really drink and would prefer to stick with water; if the team shares a bottle of wine, should I also have some or order a cocktail? Same with oysters - force myself to have 1 to be polite or skip/order a separate app? Any advice on the above or fine dining business meals dos/don'ts in general would be appreciated...r/finedining said I'd probably get more advice here as people are more active. I prefer to eat alone, so I don't know what to do in social meals with people other than close friends and family
The restaurant isn’t far away from my workplace and I’ve been thinking about giving it a try after work. I’m a huge fan of big-tray chicken+belt noodles. It’d be so sweet if they have that in authentic Uyghur style.
Hi all! I have about a month before my job starts, so I have nothing much to do the entire day. Do y'all have any recommendations for spots that I should eat at on weekdays to take advantage of my free time? Maybe hard-to-get reservations or lunch specials or early happy hour deals that would be hard to try once the 9-5 grind starts (an example being Noz Market's $10 handrolls from 2-5pm on weekdays only). Location's not really an issue, and I'm open to all price ranges but preferably in the <$20 bracket. Thanks in advance!
My company is having a holiday lunch for about 5-6 people. We are looking for the best and kinda pricy place as the company is paying for it. We plan on going at 12pm ish and will drive 15-20 minutes. Does anyone have suggestions?
With now being holiday market time, I was wondering if anything is worth checking out culinarily here?
I’m new to the city and I have a few friends coming to visit during the Christmas week. Will restaurants be open during this period (especially Christmas and New Year)?
If so, what are some recommendations to try in the city? Open to all sorts of cuisines and would love good vibes and atmosphere.
This is probably a long shot, but it's driving me crazy. I lived in New York from 2005-2010, and I cannot remember the name or exact location of a place my friends and I used to go to. It was a bar on or near the Lower East Side, and their gimmick was that they served dumplings as a snack. I'm almost positive dumplings were the only food they served. It was not fancy, but it wasn't quite a dive, either. When my friends and I went out in the area, this bar was always our last spot. We'd have a nightcap and several orders of dumplings, then call it a night. Google has been absolutely no help, so this is my last shot. I don't think it's around anymore, which is probably why it's been so hard to figure out the name and location.
Thanks for reading!
Looking for a carrot cake that'll alleviate the Finals-Week woes. Can someone help?
Unless I’m totally missing it I’m not seeing it anymore, was my favorite drink to get :(
Seeing it’s been over a year since something similar has been discussed, who has some of the best lamb/beef shawarma pita sandwiches or platters. None of that halal meatloaf stuff, we’re talking about real lamb/beef/lamb marinated and stacked on a spit.
Recently I’ve liked OMG shawarma (technically veal) but I would honestly preferred if they made the sandwiches their way instead of asking me what I want in it. I recently visited Gypsy Grill while in downtown Jersey City who has an epic pita sandwich for ~10 bucks with lamb, pickled peppers, tahini/toum sauce, marinated cucumbers, lettuce/tomato and chili based hot sauce.
Had a conversation recently with a coworker about who has the best mortadella in the city. Personally, I’m an Ends Meat guy. I think their mortadella rips. Anyone care to way in, so I could possibly expand my horizons? Anything from delis to restaurants to butchers, I’m all ears.
Which is the better, non tourist trap option? We’ve been trying to get a last minute reservation in the Midtown area and struck out at a bunch of places but these two have openings this weekend. Ideally looking for a casual, quaint spot with great authentic Italian that would be OK with our 4 and 6 year old.
Trying to take my parents who are visiting and I'm trying to take them out for something nice - most of restaurants are fully booked (my poor planning) but it looks like the modern has availability at the time I need... I'm looking at their menu but it looks like they have lunch prix fixe for $115 or dinner tasting menu for $175 (cheaper option). If you guys had both - which one would be better value? Would it be worth paying more for dinner?
Also open to any other recommendations!
Coming to NYC for the day next month and I am looking for a recommendation for lunch near the Met 5th ave but unfortunately I am a bit hampered because my mom uses a mobility scooter for anything that requires any real walking. So realistically it needs to be <.75 miles (ubers/subway aren't really feasible it's hard to disassemble scooter and based on my experiences on the T in Boston I hesitate to try the subway with the scooter), large enough to fit the scooter somewhere where we can keep an eye on it, have a place to sit down, and ideally be less than $60/entree. I was considering just grabbing a hot dog but because the weather isn't exactly predictable in January I would rather have an indoor place where we can sit and eat. I am open to any cuisine (and I know these asks are a lot) although I would love a deli or good pizza place.
Aiming to get a NYC serving job in the new year. I have NYC experience but from several years ago.
Would it be helpful in securing employment to go ahead and get the Food Handler's License? Like does putting that on my resume make a hiring difference you think?
Thanks!
My daughter and I are going to NYC to celebrate her college graduation next weekend (December 14-16). We only have two nights and 2.5 days and want to see at least a couple of shows, enjoy Christmas in NYC and eat amazing food. Tentatively, we are planning to see MJ Saturday at 8p and Book of Mormon Sunday at 7p. I have gone down so many Reddit rabbit holes for restaurant ideas, and of course many of the restaurants are booked. We are open to different types of cuisine and different price points (within reason - not planning to spend $350 each on a meal), but my hope is that we can find somewhere that is not overrated/touristy where we can get a reservation which will give us enough time to still make the show. If it is not within walking distance to the show, that is fine, as long as it is realistic to get from there to the show in time. It may also be an option to plan on dinner after Book of Mormon, maybe around 10p? It would be really cool to go to a Michelin starred restaurant, but so many are already booked and/or I have read contrasting opinions and then I can't make a decision.
Hey guys. After getting flamed for trying to find $1 slices for my gf to try in the Financial District, I've settled on taking her to Joe's for the "classic NY slice". I've personally never spent much time in the Financial District but her and I along with my parents will be there on a winter Sunday soon. I just wanted to ask if they sell by the slice because on their website, they only have full pies. If so, do you know the approximate prices? Also, since it's winter, we would probably want to sit and eat indoor so do you know if there's ample seating? On Google Maps, I saw they had some tables and chairs setup under a shed on the street but not sure if that's still there or if it's heated. If not, does anybody know anywhere indoor we could just take the pizza to and eat there? Thank you for all your help!
Hi ya. Arriving in town this evening to celebrate wife's 50th. We land kinda late and prob won't be done getting settled until 9ish. Any ideas for a pair for a later dinner?
Midtown E or UES preferred but can hop on the 6 if we have to. Happy to sit at the bar as well but either way will need to accept a walk-in
Whaaaa? Completely revulsed when restaurants lay this down on me. Any successful recourses here?
I searched the sub but not much comes up. Not looking for a chain or diner. American or Italian cuisine. Thanks!
Looking for chewy brownies in nyc (think like the Ghirardelli brownie mix) tried magnolias and buttercups but they were too dense and intense for me i don’t like my brownies too rich
Going to Manhattan for vacation in a of couple weeks with my wife and would like to do something nice. I am looking for an afternoon tea place with nice ambience, think palm court at the plaza, but somewhere that allows you to order a la carte instead of the entire afternoon tea service since we really dont eat all that much mid day. If an afternoon tea place does not come to mind, any idea for a fancy place to just sit and have coffee and pastries?
Going to Kanyakumari by Union Square on Saturday night and likely won't be finished with dinner until at least 7:30pm. Not so impressed with the dessert options so we're thinking of stopping somewhere else for dessert if we're not too full.
Lysée closes at 8 so thats not happening. Im thinking Gramercy Tavern as I was quite interested in their chocolate chip cookie but would it be difficult to get two seats at the bar on a Saturday night? We just don't want to be have to be forced to wait too long as the subway is quite bad late on weekends. Also open to other options.
Torn between West New Malaysia Kong Sikh Tong Curry House
Anything else I’m missing, looking for Malaysia, Singaporean, Chinese food… but also open to Japanese and Thai too.
