So, I was grabbing a bite in Mendocino and ordered Lemon Chicken Soup. While waiting, I noticed someone is refilling the soup from this enormous plastic bag. Honestly, I was kinda shocked! I always thought soups were made fresh in-house, but seeing it come from a bag threw me off. Is this a normal thing? Don’t we have the right to know if it’s coming out of a plastic bag?
Hi! Celebrating my 30th birthday with a group of 8 friends in San Diego soon. We are all visiting from out of town. What are your best restaurant recommendations for dinner?
Looking for a spot that’s really lively, fun atmosphere, has good music and delicious food that’s under $100 per person. Love all kinds of cuisine but some favorites are Italian, Greek, American, Mexican, Steakhouses. Not picky at all but just want it to be really fun place to celebrate and in a good location that’s good for going out later (Little Italy, Gas Lamp, North Park, etc.)
Thank you in advance for any suggestions!
Hi All,
Looking for a caterer with indian fusion options for my son’s 1st birthday. Does anyone have recommendations?

Looking for some yummy healthy plant based dishes at spots in either pacific beach or mission beach that aren’t overrun with tourists
Just found out I’m allergic to dairy - yay lol
The dish was $10.95 for the daily special. Great deal for the amount of food.
are there any chinese bakeries in san diego? (besides the bakery section of 99ranch/hmart/etc) or spots that sell baked goods similar to cocktail buns?
Hi all! I’m excited to soon be moving to the Chula Vista area (the Otay Ranch area)! I would greatly appreciate your recommendations for any kind of food experience in that area. I appreciate this sub so much and can’t wait to join you all in posting when I’m there! Thanks in advance!
Edit: You’re all amazing, thank you so much! Can’t wait to make CV my home.
Hello everyone,
We've left this up for about a week and got everyone's feedback
The first thing that we've taken action on is getting better info for peoples posts and content.
That means that flairs that let people know the region and basic price at a glance are now required for making and submitting a post to the sub.
We'll be trying to address the issues with "best" content that people are mining the sub with.
It's always been low effort and frankly I agree with everyone that we'll all benefit by having people use the search function.
This will also be aided by the flairs in their searches (future).
Of course if you have a workable suggestion regarding something we've not listed in the current flair list, let us know by sending us a modmail - thanks!
i'm obsessed with quiche, and i believe that i've found the best quiche in san diego (secret sister in south park). however, i'm very interested to test my theory by trying other highly-praised quiches! please share with me your favorite quiche in san diego so i can try them all.
i've already tried pop pie and i did enjoy their veggie quiche, but it doesn't compare to secret sister :)
I know this is a long shot, but are there any ramen spots that serve good bowls of anything other than tonkotsu? I understand that tonkotsu is by far the most popular and desirable to the western palate, but I much prefer a clear-brothed (chintan) ramen like tokyo shoyu or chicken shio.
Literally every ramen shop in San Diego features some form of tonkotsu as their main specialty - at this point, I'd even settle for tori paitan (basically tonkotsu but with chicken bones instead of pork). Are there any good reccs for chintan-style ramens?
UPDATE: The many responses are appreciated - although I think I should've been more clear about seeking places that actually specialize in clear-style ramen. A lot of the suggestions are of places that still specialize in Tonkotsu with maybe a clear-style or miso-style buried in the back of the menu. The most promising suggestion so far have been Kitakata Ramen and Ryoma. Will report back after trying!
Hosting a surprise 60th birthday party for my mother. Looking for a private dining room/buyout to accommodate 50 near Little Italy - willing to invest for the right fit. Good cocktails/drinks important. Thanks!
Reviews on Yelp look promising but thought I'd ask this community too!
Anyone know where I can buy some that isn't from a can?
I will begrudgingly make it if I can't find it (just feeling super lazy) but if I can support a local business, I will. Thank you!
Any recs for pre-made Thanksgiving meals for groups? I've seen what Costco and Honeybaked are offering and I'm looking for alternatives. I've used Albertsons in the past but they don't seem the be offering anything this year? Or am I searching wrong?
I know this one has been kicked around before, but.... 1st time visit to San Diego for USMC graduation, staying in mission Valley but have car to travel if something may be worthwhile. Looking for the best California burrito experience, on or near the beach for bonus points. Thanks in advance for any contributions!
Wife and I feel out of place with the younger crowd. Any recs for us?
Looking for a place that serves good banh bot loc or banh beo!
I’m craving them but Chinese food has been mid at best in SD. Hopes aren’t too high but figured I’d ask here!
My wife is gluten free and I am trying to find as many lists of restaurants with really good homemade gluten free pasta. I know of Buena Forchetta’s GF pizza, but I didn’t know if they had any good other GF dishes.
Honestly, any GF friendly restaurants would be helpful too!
Just moved here from Portland and while SD has a lot of great food options, the one thing I miss the most is the curry I got from being in a heavy Thai and Asian population in the Pacific Northwest.
I totally understand it’s going to be more rare here, but figured it be worth asking - where have you found the best curry?
Specifically Thai yellow, red, and Massaman.
What’s the best take out Chinese restaurant in San Diego?
Everyone always asks about steak but what restaurant has the best Pork Chop dish in San Diego?
