If you have an allergy to peanut, tree nut, & COCONUT what shampoos & conditioners do you use? I was using the same one forever and they recently changed the formula and it now contains Cocamides in it which derives from coconut. And before you say it I’m aware that coconut is not technically a tree nut, however I am still allergic to it on my allergy test results. It’s easy to avoid peanut & even tree nut in hair care (besides almond oil) but it’s so hard to avoid coconut because it has a million different chemical names!! Help a girl out?
I am going to be baking in my home kitchen occasionally for a group that includes someone with a peanut allergy. The food will not be consumed on-site. The person has been able to work in the same small environment as someone eating peanut butter, but I'm not entirely sure how severe the allergy is.
In the past, and still maybe once every other month, I bake peanut butter cookies (using 1 pound of peanut butter).
My kitchen has good ventilation, but in the process of making the cookies I can certainly smell the peanut butter.
If there's an open canister of granulated or brown sugar on the counter at the time, is that compromised for peanut allergy purposes?
I want to be sure before I buy a bunch of extra canisters for peanut-free baking.
I have a powerful kitchen vent, but I don't necessarily run it when I'm mixing dough.
I'm not sure if airborne peanut allergens can "settle" on open sugar, flour, or baking soda like that and remain a hazard a month later.
Very specific question. My son tested positive for egg allergy but our allergist wants him to try baked egg. These have egg whites as an ingredient, so I’m wondering if they count as baked? Anyone with an egg allergy able to tolerate these?
I've noticed my toddler really struggles to walk properly. I'm pretty sure this is due to lack of calcium because of her dairy allergy. Any advice on calcium rich foods or supplement for under 3 year olds. All supplements I've seen are for 3yr+.
I don’t think I have an actual chicken allergy, but I’m beginning to think it’s not normal that whenever I eat chicken it feels like my stomach is like…. rejecting it?
Not like I’m gonna puke, just like I don’t have an appetite anymore? Like my stomach is closing up and saying “I don’t want this”
It takes me an hour to will myself to eat 3 ounces of chicken because of this. I’ve been using it as a protein source forever but I think I really need to switch because I can’t do this anymore.
No other symptoms. Stomach just doesn’t want me to eat it.
Anyone know anything about this?
Hi y'all! I'm not new to food allergies; I'm allergic (at varying severities depending on the nut) to peanuts and tree nuts and have an epi for it. Historically, I've also had mild reactions, like an intense itch inside my mouth for about 30 mins, to actual coconut and coconut milk, but I have had fresh coconut water just fine and regularly consume coconut oil. Is this a common thing and is there a reason for it? It's funny to have to explain to people that yes, I have no problem eating this chocolate with coconut oil in it, and no, I can't eat this other chocolate with shredded coconut in it, lol.
Curious if others also have this and if anyone knows why this is the way it is.
For those of you who may have been looking for the Enjoy Life Chocolate bars, Kids with Food Allergies recently shared that the product is being discontinued. The baking chocolate chips will still be on shelves.
I finally have been able to see an allergist and get a blood test done after an unexplained allergic reaction I had a few weeks ago. I’m waiting for the results but they’re testing me for a few of the foods and ingredients I had about an hour before the reaction. I wanted to know how accurate these tests are because I was reading online 50-60% can be false positives.
Should I try to get a skin test as well with my allergist back in my hometown? (I currently live out of state).
Working through food allergies with my baby, all skin testing was negative (major allergens, bananas, oats, avocado). she does have a cow milk protein intolerance and oats intolerance causing blood in the stool. Since starting solids she’s had a general rash (potentially eczema?) that fluctuates throughout the day that we haven’t figured out.
This was about 10 minutes after having scrambled eggs cut into thick strips, with aquaphor on her face to prevent some skin contact, went down after about 1 hour with no treatment. Prior to feeding, the rash was actually nonexistent. I’ve pushed for bloodwork and waiting to hear back from doc- how often is skin testing completely wrong? Could this just be sensitive skin from contact of food?
Severely struggling as my allergy to shellfish has become airborne. Previously I had an interest in getting my CNA. Would a hospital job be possible for me? What kind of jobs can i do in the meantime?
I have a PN, TN & coconut allergy On this page & other groups I’m in I’ve heard of people having cross contamination reactions due to great value not properly labeling items in their manufacturing process. So my question is have you ever had this happen to you? Do you use great value products in your home?
Personally I have never had this happen to me. The only cross contamination reactions I’ve ever had came from Dairy Queen ice cream and I no longer eat there. My home is full of great value products such as milk, eggs, sugar, flour, canned veggies, fruits & vegetables, Greek yogurt, etc I never buy anything that has a whole bunch of ingredients in it and keep it simple like basic generic items. For example I’d never buy a great value granola bar even if it was labeled as “safe” I feel like I’m kind of stuck between a rock & a hard place because I keep hearing these terrible stories about great value labeling all while I’ve never had a reaction but I’m scared to eat those items & also on the other hand I’ve never bought any other brands in the products I’m mentioning and I’m also scared to try a new brand because I’ve never had it before and idk if it’s safe. Thoughts??
My daughter is confirmed allergic to peanuts and they ran this panel im not sure why or what it says/means?

I’ve always had a pretty inconvenient reaction to Red40 (migraines, nausea, puking, fatigue, …) so I learned to try & stay away from it.
I’m wondering if anyone knows any brand that sells lipstick without food coloring? I’ve seen so many 100% natural lipstick products but when I message customer service they end listing all the food coloring used in the product and recommend I don’t use it.
TL;DR: color-free lipstick recommendations
Tw- eating disorder
I am anaphylactic to peanuts, tree nuts, & coconut. I haven’t had a bad reaction since being a child only mild reactions due to cross contamination & that hasn’t happened in years. Last year I experienced a traumatic event (not related to allergies) I basically overdosed myself by accident on Sudafed while drinking (bc I forgot about the Sudafed) and since then I’ve had severe panic attacks almost every day. my panic has gotten better but every day I fear for my life & in return I have developed severe debilitating anxiety over my food allergies. I now have an eating disorder called Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) I only have a few foods I can eat without completely freaking out. I’ve stopped eating most of my favorite foods I’ve stopped eating at restaurants and it is severely impacting my life. I used to just check the labels & allergy warnings & if it was safe I ate it. Now I have to repetitively look up each ingredient to make sure each individual ingredient is safe as well which is why I’ve cut out some of my favorite foods. I constantly see horror stories of packaged foods being incorrectly labeled. I obsessively research food ingredients and manufacturing processes and have found so many stories of manufacturers not labeling the boxes as processed with or manufactured in the same facility because it is not required by the FDA. Coconut is especially hard it is considered a tree nut by the FDA even though it technically isn’t I’m still allergic none the less but there are so many items where it is not in allergy warnings or even in the main products list it can be hidden sometimes in emulsifiers in manufacturing which scares the absolute crap out of me even though I’ve never had a reaction. Also all the Constant recalls on food. My OCD/Eating disorder makes my fear so much worse & at this point I don’t even know what to do. I’m pregnant for the first time to a baby girl due in April. I have to do better for her. She is my top priority. I just need advice anything helps. All therapists I’ve been too just do talk therapy not exposure & response or CBT which is what I need and I can’t seem to find it. I try to DIY it at home and I just get to nervous and panic. I started meds but I don’t take the full amount because I’m scared. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m at my wits end and seriously need help. My biggest fear is leaving my husband (my best friend) & my daughter behind. At this point I’m not living I’m only surviving 😭
I say this as someone with severe food allergies who is Lebanese-American. Countries, especially developing ones like Lebanon, often see allergies as "preferences". This means to them you don't like the taste of peanuts or it makes you sneeze, but not seeing it can actually cause anyphylaxis.
Now, more established places in Lebanon may understand this, but the average restaurant won't. For your own safety, please don't expect change of gloves, checking if ingredients are nut free, cleaning pans, etc.
Please don't get mad at them for this. They where simply never taught the seriosity of allergies. Please be patient with them and kindly explain how severe it is.
I write this as a warning because I care about our community. Please spread the word with a friend who may not have Reddit. Thank you.
Hello, I’m in a tight spot (unlike my sphincter) I’ll try keep it short.
I got food poisoning from a bolognese sauce when camping 5+ years ago. Ever since I’ve been intolerant to dairy, ground-meat and meat stews or restaurant meat that sits on a hot plate (I.e Beef and EVEN chicken burrito filling).
Usually I can keep my intolerance under control avoiding problem foods - it’s improved over the years to where I can eat some of the foods which I’m intolerant to (if prepared with good hygiene)
However, I’m travelling South America for the year and I’ve just been brought back to ground-zero by eating a spaghetti bolognese.
I feel like I’ve tried every remedy imaginable… nothing but abstinence from foods has helped me. I’m hoping someone here has been similarly intolerant and found a left-field remedy which worked for them?
And worth mentioning, I’m not against traditional medicine, I’ve just started another round of pro-biotics (these haven’t worked in the past but I’m desperate!!).
Thank you!
quick medical history: MS (autoimmune disease), hashimoto's (autoimmune disease), anaphylactic reaction to ibuprofen, reactions to other medications that induce heart palpitations, stomach issues, and trouble breathing, mild low occurrence asthma triggered by allergens
newer symptoms I have been having that I went to a dr for: reactions to eating that cause puffy lips and tongue tingling/itching, puffy face and eyes, mild throat tightness, heart palpitations, fatigue, and feelings of "bees" in my body. i believe these are all caused by unknown foods or allergens, a couple of foods which definitely produced a reaction were oregano (most severe, but again still just an inconvenience and anxiety inducing at best) and some fruits like strawberry, banana, pineapple, and milk
I have also always been very sensitive to scents, beauty products, certain wood dust giving me hives (I am a woodworker), my cats, mosquito bites used to make me swell up like a balloon when I was a kid and also had one random occurrence of it as an adult when I was in another country that wS very severe, whatever
SO, HERE'S WHERE I AM WONDERING IF THIS DOCTOR DIDN'T DO THEIR DUE DILIGENCE OR IF THERE IS A RATIONAL EXPLANATION: I met with an allergist today and they did a poke test. for the first one, it was just the first layer of skin and they measured a few of the spots and documented them. The doctor was a bit later than the 15 minute time frame they said they would be back but seemed to get a reading. I had mild brief throat tightness when they cleaned my back and applied a hydrocortisone cream which I mentioned but they seemed to dismiss and just didn't use it the second time (it had a strong aroma so that was a possible explanation). For the second test, they went deeper on my arms with any of the allergens that didn't produce a reaction in the first test. immediately when we started the assistant said "oh I can already tell some of these are reacting here but weren't in the other test" (I know she's not a doctor but the doctor seemed to hype up her experience) and I could see the wheals on my arms. The doctor didn't come in until 40 minutes had passed (and gaslit me about it but that's a whole different complaint) and the wheals had already started to go down by this point. she looked at both arms and said they looked fine and recorded no reaction for those allergens. sooo... can you still get a good reading that much time after the allergens are applied to the skin?
The final results out of about 100 allergens were that I am only allergic to cats, dogs, dust, and milk.... which... are all very generic allergens I know that I have already and mentioned in the intake.
soooo...... is the doctor wrong and the readings would no longer be accurate at 40 minutes or is there a rational explanation that my control could have been as large as the wheals on my arms so that is why they were dismissed??
No food allergies, just got back from the allergist, whoop!
Buuut... they found that I am allergic to a LOT of environmental allergens. Bananas, apples, tomatoes, and kiwis cause an itchy mouth and somethings, especially with tomatoes, a scratchy throat or tight throat. I can always breathe though and it has never looked to be closing. Just feels like it.
Allergist told me this sensation is likely either the cross pollination syndrome or because of my reflux and post nasal drip, which I have bad. And tomatoes are a high acid food.
But of course, now I am worried. So... help? Does cooking the foods really work?
i’ve had about three food specific allergic reactions in my entire life that i can remember and today is the third.
the first was when i was really young i had some raspberry/pineapple sorbet at the circus
second back in high school i had some sort of fancy acai berry chai fruit bar
and today i had a different flavor from my usual energy drink - sparkling prickly pear lime celsius to be exact.
i don’t think it’s a serious reaction but it’s definitely uncomfortable- the symptoms are always the same. my cheeks and throat swell up, or generally anywhere that it was exposed to (during the bar my eye swelled up really bad)
when i was younger i thought it was just pineapple because i hadn’t had it before then, but now im sure it has to be some fruit additive or something but i can’t find out what. the celsius doesn’t have any differing ingredients from the flavor i usually drink except for “vegetable juice (color)” so i assume it was whatever they used for “natural flavor?”
i cant find anything on the bar either, although it was so long ago that i had it i’m not sure id be able to recognize the exact one.
took some benadryl and am researching my ass off - i just want to know wtf it is so i can try and avoid it! any advice?
Allergic to all forms of soy.
I don’t know what to eat anymore. Fruit and veggies are sprayed with pesticides. Cows are fed soy and corn along with other things so it’s in their milk. Animals are fed soy and corn so it’s in their meat. For those who are anaphylactic to soy? What brands and food do you eat??
We went to a small local sing along class at our library today.
We did make it through the class, however at the end of the class they pull out toys for all the children to play with together.
Unfortunately, one of the moms pulls out cashews and hands them to her child. He takes them into the toys.
We left, but now I feel like I can’t even let my 15 month old play with them ever. I don’t know how often the toys get cleaned and I don’t know the severity of my child’s allergy. We do carry an epi pen because after ingestion severe vomiting follows and the allergist tested it and the skin prick test was raised as well.
It just sucks. How do other parents deal with this? Should I have immediately asked the other mom to not give her child the cashews? It’s so new to me and I’m not even sure how to navigate it but leaving felt like the only answer.
I did let the person in charge know of the allergy as we were leaving so I’m hoping she goes and has them take the cashews off the mat at the very least or reminds people to be mindful.
It’s strange to me even that people are feeding their children in this 1 hour time window in a library. We’ve been to this class multiple times and haven’t seen people pulling out snacks until today.
