Has anyone reacted to fenugreek? It’s commonly found in curry.
Hey all. It's in the title -- my infant has been diagnosed with a peanut allergy as well as some of the other major allergens. Obviously we aren't eating peanut anything in the house and I am reading the labels of everything. What else do I need to be aware of to keep him safe? Are there any "safe" foods if it doesn't say "peanut free facility" on the side -- like can he have mac and cheese, or is pasta something that can be processed on cross-contaminated equipment? Do I need to make sure our entire family eats only certified peanut free stuff, or can I use the bag of flour for my husband and me and just try not to cross contaminate food I make for our son? Do I need to get separate spoons, cutting boards, pots and pans?
I have been trying to look this stuff up but it's very frustrating. I basically get the same article over and over explaining that lots of people have long and healthy lives with peanut allergies (which I know already, and is comforting, but doesn't answer any practical "how do I cook for my kid" questions). Help, please!
Hey, I’ve been doing immunotherapy for the last 2 years with no issues.
Tonight I ate 8 peanuts, and an hour later I threw up, this is the first time this has ever happened and I don’t think it’s due to the peanuts as I was already not feeling well.
I just want to know what my next steps should be? Continue with 8 more tomorrow? Eat more tonight.
Pleaseeeeee help
Hello there all! So I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on restaurants...more specifically chain restaurants since it's probably easier to get more information.
I frequent the same three restaurants personally because I feel safest with them...Buffalo Wild Wings, Red Robin and 110 Grill. They all seem to have very solid allergy training and practices. I'm sure others do too, but these are just my go-to's. I would love to hear your thoughts on other safe restaurants.
As for unsafe ones, I know this far outweighs the safe, but my first ones that come to mind are Texas Road House, Five Guys, Chick-Fil-A, and lastly On The Border. I used to eat at On The Border, but the last visit to my local one I asked for the peanut safe and tree nut safe menus...they do things by section. The waitress couldn't care less. I spoke with a manager there and asked them "is 'x item' safe? what are your practices?" and they had the same lax attitude. Being told "I guess so" when asking if it'd be safe for two life-threatening allergies is not confidence-inspiring.
Anyhow though! Thank you for all thoughts you may have, I'd just like to see where others seem to frequent. I live in Massachusetts just for reference as far as local chains and such. Thank you! :)
Hello! I was on a cruise on Royal Caribbean, we went to the Wonderland restaurant. We shared “world” desert which contained that. I start eating it, I then started feeling my throat close like I wouldn’t breathe. As soon as I reached for my epi pen, (I have a random bee allergy),it started slowly opening up. I remember having a reaction like this, with peanut butter af night from the jar. I used to think it was just too thick and I was choking. But after the cruise episode it was very not thick. I realized I have an allergy. So far I can be around smell, maybe have peanut oil since it’s refined? But ever since I ever been so scared of the food. Peanut butter anything was my favorite desert, or food. So it’s been an interesting “withdraw”, but every time I think about it, I get beyond scared because it almost killed me.
Last night, after coming home from the inlaw’s place from thanksgiving, I(m24) ate some food for dinner that one of his coworkers made for him. Even though it was spaghetti and meat balls, I started going into anaphylaxis. I dreaded going to the hospital since I had just paid off my last ER trip. I hit my inhaler, took 60 mg of prednisone, and 30 mg of zertec. I could feel my blood pressure going back to normal after an hour and a half, had some hives that came and gone by two hours. I fell asleep after another hit of the inhaler. (No one should do this please don’t follow my example)
I’m just still feeling so panicky. I just spent all day asking questions about food and I hated it. I came home and knew there wasn’t anything in this spaghetti, but nuts are a lot more common in Islamic and European type dishes, so cross contamination isn’t a crazy occurrence in my mind. How do you guys cope right after something like this happens?
Anyone have a baklava brands they trust? I only have a peanut allergy which developed early last year. I completely avoided baklava last holiday season but would really love some this year. I would make it but honestly it's too tedious for me as I have a small child and so much else to take care of in a day.
I have the memory of eating these for like the past thanksgivings but every year 😂 I become scared to eat it again does anyone else eat these so I can at least feel a little less paranoid
My daughter 1 has just been diagnosed with a peanut allergy (she’s been given a EPI pen, which I’ve been shown how to use) I think her allergy is if she is in contact with them
I’ve never dealt with allergies or anything of the sort before, how do I ensure she doesn’t come into contact with peanuts? How do you find eating out? Does ‘traces of nuts’ on packets mean there is nuts in it? And would that Make her react? I’m just so confused by it all, her doctor did try explain most of it to me and he gave me a lot of information about it but not so much advice on managing it,
Any help would be appreciated
My daughter, now 13, was first confirmed as having a peanut allergy at about 8 months when given peanut butter. We were told to carry an Epi-pen as she was High Risk for anaphylaxis. She has been tested twice since then after being told she may grow out of it. Please help me understand what this last test is saying. The test was done through our GP who was not very forthcoming with information. The High Risk they mention, is that still anaphylaxis level risk? Does she still need to carry an Epi-pen? Does she need a medic-alert bracelet now that she is more out of the presence of people who know her allergy? Other numbers I see on this group are far higher and I'd love to understand the severity of her allergy. Thank you, from an overwhelmed mom!
Is Benadryl the best? I see it suggested first before Claritin and Zyrtec. I always used Benadryl but I’m wondering if Claritin or something else works just as fine?
I understand epi pens are best for this reaction, but wanting to know whats the next best option.
Any shellfish allergies out there? My son has peanut and tree nut allergies along with shellfish. Tonight he had Kirkland Tilapia which doesn't have a shellfish warning but he's having a reaction. Should he avoid fish? Would love to hear how others handle it

Hi, my son had an allergy test due to eczema. This peanut allergy was an accident find! Can someone elaborate on this? We don’t have an appt for a few days.
He’s had peanuts once. He was coughing and had a horrible rash so I never gave it to him again.
I have a deadly allergy and my aunt opened peanut butter crackers, forgetting about my allergy. She was sitting right next to my art piece that I had laying on the couch. She didn’t touch it, and went to throw the crackers away immediately after I brought up how I was allergic. What scared me though is that when walking to the trash, she held the package right over the spot on the couch where my piece was. I’m currently freaking out because I read peanut dust and residue takes 180 days to decay, and I need to get this project turned in next week. I can’t wipe it down with clorox or anything since it would ruin all my work. I spent super long on making the piece as well. Tried to bring this up to my sister and mother, with them telling me that I was insane for being afraid, and that “you’ll be fine and live.” I know peanut butter cracker crumbs tend to be airborne, and given that it was super close to my art- there’s a high chance it’s contaminated. What do I do? Am I actually overreacting?
hi! me and my gf have been long distance for a year now. we’ve met up twice, once in rome with my mum in an airbnb (she’s from italy) so we made our own food and then in london (where im from) and that was fine obviously. i have a severe peanut and tree nut allergy. i also have about 8 epi pens.
however, she wants me to go to her house in calabria, italy and id love to go too but her parents don’t speak any English. she said that her mum will know about my allergy and she can translate anything for me. but i’m still really anxious about it, i have a lot of anxiety surrounding my allergy and have been in therapy for it and clearly need to go back. i’m sure she would take great care of me and look out for me.
is this safe and im just overthinking it? eating at her house would obviously be more safe than eating at a restaurant. i will buy some allergy cards too. for some reason im just afraid of them slipping up or missing something. the hospital is also 37 minutes away as well.
what should i do? if it’s safer to not go then i will have to talk to her and come up with some options. let me know if im worrying over nothing tho haha
Hey all! In December I am setting off on a couple of months of travel around Indonesia, the Philippines and Japan. I was diagnosed with a severe nut allergy following anaphylaxis when I was 5, now 25, but I have never had any kind of reaction since the day I found out. I got myself tested again recently, still definitely allergic.
Told myself I wouldn’t let me allergy get in the way of going to the places I want to go to, but as it grows nearer getting more and more apprehensive.
It would be great to know if anyone has any experience of travel to these countries, and how they’ve found it! I’ll be carrying epipens/epinephrine/AAIs with me, as well as Benadryl.
My nervousness comes from firstly the fact that I’ve never had a reaction before so wouldn’t really have much of an idea what to expect. As well as the language barrier alongside perhaps different interpretations of what an allergy might mean in different countries. I will also be in some quite remote places, and lack of proximity to hospitals etc is also making me nervous.
Any tips/tricks/experiences etc would be greatly appreciated.
Hi everyone! I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience! Does anyone else get looked at like they have 5 heads when asking about Peanut oil at restaurants? Most of the time the servers understand and know but I’ve had a few experiences of being given an attitude when I asked! It honestly makes me not even wanna ask anymore 🥲🥲
If you are wondering about the French I live in Canada
Open to any island would value any that were accommodative with peanut allergies.
Hi, has anyone dealt with their baby having a contact reaction to peanut butter (redness and sometimes bumps on face) but their pediatrician and allergist are saying it's not an allergy? Her skin test was positive and blood work was very low for an allergy (0.22% positive). I give her peanut butter about 3 times a week with an aquaphor barrier per doctors advice, and she still gets red sometimes. Just looking to see if anyone else has dealt with this and if their baby grew out of it. Thank you!
So I guess we can’t order anything online or probably even go to this place anymore. Pretty insane they posted this so someone must have had a reaction.
Just goes to show you have to be vigilant every where you go unfortunately.
How do you clean peanut allergens from surfaces? I'm not allergic to peanut, but I'm worried about people who are:( I happened to eat peanuts in public space, between my classes. I totally forgot that there might be people who are allergic to it, so it was really inconsiderate of me and I obviously won't do it again. But mistakes happen and you can't undo what's done. A week ago I accidentally dropped a few peanuts on a leather sofa I was sitting on. I collected them, but didn't wipe the surface afterwards. Now I remembered about it and felt really bad about it, I'm worried that someone got/will get allergic reaction because of my ignorant ass. I'm going to clean the sofa myself, but how do I do it? It's in my Uni Departament, but I highly doubt someone has washed it. I obviously can't rub soap into it, because then how'd I wash it off? Would wet wipes be ok? Is it even appropriate to use them on public surfaces, considering that they can also be allergenic? Also, any tips on how not to look like a maniac/ sketchy person, wiping a random sofa, when there are security cameras around?
Took my baby to a friends baby bday party. She knows I’m gluten free but I told her this is a children’s party. Don’t worry about me and my gluten. Just don’t have peanuts please. My son has peanuts allergy. He’s only 6 months. She understood the assignment. So we get there and she has random coleslaw with peanuts and cheeseboard with peanuts that was on the cheese I was going to get. My son is being breast fed but when I eat it and feed him my milk he has eczema all over. My friend goes oh darn I forgot! I’m like…it’s a babies birthday party! I thought most people knew not to do that at children’s environment spaces? Even before his allergy I knew this. Anyways thing is no one cares and never will. How do you all live like this? I used to be a peanut lover till my baby was born. I really pray I can desensitize caz this ain’t it.
Hi everyone
I want to start by saying thank you to everyone in this community. I have found the advice and stories here to be very informative and comforting. I am currently looking to gain people’s opinions regarding OIT and Peanut Avoidance as possible paths for my child’s peanut allergy.
My child developed hives to peanuts during their first exposure at 5 months old. We met with an allergist (after getting off a long waitlist) when they were 11 months old. The blood test results showed Allergen Peanut IgE Conc value of 0.52. They did not have a reaction to any other IgE nuts, tree nuts or peanut components. The skin testing showed a response to peanuts of 9/30 mm vs 5/30mm control.
With OIT there is a risk of developing Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EOE), which their father already has (he does not have any allergies). This first degree relation puts our child at higher risk of developing EOE. Any of our children regardless of allergy are at higher risk of developing EOE as well.
My ask is, for those working through OIT what are the pros cons and what do you wish you knew before starting?
For those going the avoidance route any advice or thoughts?
It is such a tough decision to make because we cannot predict the future of my child’s allergy or likelihood of developing EOE. We just want to, like all parents, make decisions to give her the highest quality of life possible.
Any and all advice is appreciated.
We’re all just doing our best for our kids!!
At work, i accidentally ate a stuffed mushroom with little nuts in it. I spit most of it out, yet I felt a reaction come on anyway. The only reactions I have to nuts are swelling of the tongue, throat and sometimes of the face.
I had liquid Benadryl at my desk so I downed a bunch of it and went to the ER. The Benadryl helped my throat. But I could still feel that my throat was hurting.
By the time I was being given fluids the medical said they couldn’t see swelling in my throat anymore. Then these doctors gave me a dumb ass lecture about what an anaphylactic reaction is, which I was highly offended. I’ve had these reactions since I was a child. And the only reason I went to the ER, is because the last time I had a reaction I tried to handle it at home with Benadryl. And what happened was the Benadryl worked for a few hours and then the reaction came back. So I had to go to the ER and get medicine in the IV, steroids and things like that.
But I guess I was really offended that they were explaining to me what an anaphylactic reaction was and that me taking Benadryl wouldn’t have worked. And I took the Benadryl because my EpiPen was at home and I was at work at the time. So does anyone else take liquid Benadryl when they’re having a reaction? It’s always been my go to too slow down a reaction, but these doctors were just not believing it. They were very into the idea that Benadryl only helps with hives and swelling of the face. But that’s never really been the case for me. I’ve always used Benadryl since I was a child to slow down a severe reaction.
