Hey guys. I've been drinking whey protein with milk powder (Nido) for probably a year or so.
I puked a week ago when I had the shake, and again today (the only two times I've had it since the past week). Both times I could clearly see that the protein wasn't digested in whatever came out.
Only thing I can think of, is that I started using the same scooper for both powders, and one day I accidentally dropped a bit of the whey into the milk powder.
Is it possible that doing this caused some kind of reaction with the milk powder to become undigestible, and that's why I'm vomiting?
Making this because my stomach has been hurting the past few days-- there's a Lay's potato chip recall in certain states due to there being potential milk in it that ISNT labeled!!!
I'm pretty sure this is the cause. So beware you guys!!
When you discovered lactose intolerance, how many days did it take you to heal from the symptoms after cutting out lactose?
We recently cut out lactose for my husband's health. We have lactose free milk, sour cream, and we can handle really aged cheddar.
Since doing this for him, I've noticed I've been increasingly less tolerant of lactose. Regular mass made grocery store cheese is the worst and I haven't dared try regular milk in a year or so.
I had a frozen pizza for lunch (regular cheese) with a lactaid pill. Normally I do this for dinners and I'm fine but since I had it for lunch, I'm not sure if what I'm feeling is related?
No GI upset. But I'm feeling brain fog and like my eyes are lagging behind my head movements. SLIGHT pressure in my face but nothing like what happens when I get a headache. And a runny nose.
Hey guys, I just want to say that I am finally after 18 years of living accepting that I am fully lactose intolerant. I had mac and cheese before this class and my stomach has been making insane noises for an hour and I'm gonna have to take a crazy shit later. I finally feel like I am mature enough to accept this tragic lifestyle for myself.
Any tips on cutting out dairy? I LOVE MILK BTW. I am the type who drinks glasses of milk if it is in front of me. Lactaid works actually pretty well so I still plan on having treats.
Thank you to my new community.
Hello everyone! I am a college student who doesn't want to pay a lot of money to Starbucks to get my coffee fix after an early lab. Do you guys have any suggestions for canned or boxed coffees that use oat milk and don't taste bad? I tried the Chamberlain coffee cans, but they tasted bad.
I've been going back and forth trying different milk brands to see if I can find one I can tolerate. I've already tried Lactaid and Fairlife and both still cause me problems. So after several people saying how much they liked oatmilk, I tried it. The Oatly brand was by far the best as far as creaminess and looking the closest to actual milk in my tea and coffee. Unfortunately after drinking a couple cups, awhile later I became bloated and gassy and felt awful the entire night (no diarrhea, just didn not feel well). So I knew I couldn't drink it, but I didn't want to toss it so I made a few dishes that require milk, and used the oatmilk instead (salmon loaf, muffins, etc). I figured if it was baked into something it woud be fine. I've eaten these items over the last 2-3 days and I experienced diarrhea last night and also this morning. I don't know if it was the oatmilk or not but it's the onlt thing I can think of that's different so was wondering if anyone else has experienced a not so nice reaction to oatmilk.
Hello I'm a 20yo m that has known they where lactose intolerant since they where 13. I have recently discovered that lactose milk hurts me if its a small amount but when i drink a liter of it I'm completely fine other then felling ill for drinking a liter of milk in one sitting. What on earth is happening in my gut?
Does anyone in AUS know if there is a lactose free butter available anywhere (actual butter, not a substitute)? My wife is lactose intolerant and we’ve been making our own butter using lactose free cream but between toast, baking pies and general cooking, we’re churning every other day. Would be great to be able to buy something in greater than the ~110gm batches we get out of a bottle of cream
hey all, haven’t posted here in a long time, but i have unfortunately made the mistake of not waiting long enough before eating after i take my dairy pills. it’s been about a half hour since my stomach started acting up, and now im just stuck on the toilet. so uncomfortable. i took some Gravol to help with the nausea but need some kind of distraction or kind words.
i’m new to all this and incredibly frustrated. any suggestions? i just bought some lactaid and am going to try it and i’m going to cut out dairy but 🤷♀️
Like ok, I finally switched to lactaid milk which I eat in my oatmeal and coffee but oh my god then I had chocolate chips and string cheese. I wish I could afford to buy my own cheese cause the little round ones that you unwrap are good.
Enjoy life chocolate chips give me digestion issues to.. strange. Anyways I had instant bloating and gas. Maybe it’s cause I’m also very likely celiac it’s hard idk how anyone does this
Hi hi! Normally when I go to Starbucks or just get coffee in general I get a peppermint mocha but I've noticed it's been KILLING my stomach afterwards and I am assuming as I've aged my lactose intolerance has gotten worse. I don't want to swap drinks I just wanted to know what y'all use as a milk substitute? I personally hate oat milk and I can tolerate almond milk but it's not my favorite. I want smt that tastes like 2% milk but is dairy free. Any ideas?
wow. so, I just became lactose intolerant. (don’t ask how I found out) Thankfully, I was never a big fan of dairy, but I really thought I was one of those people who would never lose the tolerance gene or whatever☠️ but it’s a slap in the face for sure, especially since, again, not your regular daily consumer, decides to have some yogurt since it’s been a while and then…OUCH
and then I started thinking, what i’ve seen on the internet about growing up and BECOMING Li and decide to put myself to the test: milk. 50cl.
I won’t say where I’m writing this from but… you know.
New to having to completely cut out dairy (unless I take Lactaid) and most things I use to eat had dairy..what do you meal plans look like?
I suspected I might be LI over the summer. I’ve been experimenting since then. I figured it didn’t really matter if it was officially LI or just another trigger but certain dairy foods make me sick as a dog.
And I’ve been trying my best to get a handle on it. But this isn’t like an allergy, you’d think there’s room for flexibility since some items are fine and others aren’t. But no, it’s not just that. It’s some items are fine and others aren’t SOMETIMES. I got sick last night and am sick now (yay bathroom buddies…) and the only thing I can think of that did it was the yogurt I had for lunch yesterday. Normally, so far, Greek yogurt has been fine 10/10 times. I can’t think of anything else I’ve eaten to cause the diarrhea. But here we are.
I’m just going to eat Japanese food for the rest of my life. It’s literally the only food that doesn’t make me feel awful. That culture is on to something.
Good day all,
I'm looking for advice on food intolerances after having symptoms for a very long time (several years).
I am now aware through my own testing that I am lactose intolerant and suffer the stomach issues that come with this. I do however have other symptoms that seem to fall outside of lactose intolerance and wonder if anyone here knows or has experienced having a higher likelihood of other food intolerances alongside lactose?
My symptoms are as follows; Daily headaches, extreme fatigue, intense itching all over my body, post nasal drip/constant sniffing and throat clearing for about 15 years, a lot of mucus in my stool, alongside the lactose issues (bloating, diarrhea, stomach pains).
I don't believe I eat a huge amount of lactose anymore due to its affects being almost instant and debilitating as I rarely have milk, not a soft cheese person etc so I think something else might be at play but unsure what it may be to try and direct any potential testing in the right direction. Many thanks for any help.
I'm not sure about everyone else but I've got a decent sweet tooth and have been craving chocolate but it's not easy to find good vegan or just lactose free chocolate. I'm in Canada to give a reference for any one country only chocolates, I've tried the Reese plant based cups, cadbury plant based, lindt plant based and a few other random brands. I'm mostly looking for something smooth and creamy with a sweet taste, so far Reese and lindt have been my favorites, what's yours any suggestions?
Does that mean it’s probably not just lactose intolerance and also a casein and or whey sensitivity?
I am currently taking Imodium daily for diarrhea my cancer meds cause. But now the diarrhea, bloating and gas is even WORSE! I just looked up that Imodium has lactose in it. 😣😣😣
Sooooooo it looks like I have an intolerance 😭😭😭
What medicines (prescription & OTC) have you come across that contain lactose?? Thanks 😖
tl;dr I spent the past year figuring out fix my lactose intolerance and ended up making my own lactase pill
I've have worst lactose intolerance out of anyone I know. I was always "that guy" that carried around a full sleeve of Lactaid in my pockets, and would take multiple every time I had dairy
The sad thing was even with this setup, it didn't always work out. Cheese and pizza would be manageable, but ice cream would still be risky, and straight milk was still a straight to the toilet situation
One day just over a year ago, I set out to finally put an end to this. After doing lots of research, I learned:
Finally, the "magic" solutions out there (probiotics, antibiotics like rifaximin, herbals) don't work, at least for me. I'd have to just stick with enzymes
So I set out to make my own pill. Manufacturing these pills is an interesting process (there's a whole other story on this), but I sought out to design the perfect pills for myself. That meant:
A year later, I'm excited to share were able to finish our first production batch! Plus one of our videos recently went semi-viral and we got our first batch of customers, so things are looking up!
It's obviously really early on so don't have anything conclusive to say, except to share my story and answer any questions if anyone happened to have bumped across our videos or is curious about anything I said!
Hi, I’m a single mom to a 19 month old toddler who is lactose intolerant. Even though the doctor diagnosed him with it my sisters don’t believe me. Well afternoon my mom and my sister took my son to go eat Mexican while I stayed home and cleaned up a little. While there they gave my son basically a whole bowl of cheese dip. Now at 1am he’s uncomfortable, crying, can’t get into a deep sleep because I’m assuming his stomach hurts too bad, and I have no idea how to help him through this. I’m not LI myself and this is all new to me. I trusted my mom with him because she knows how he is with dairy and she basically betrayed that. Can anyone give me some advice on how to help him?
I’m newly LI, and I’m still trying to figure out things I can and can’t eat. Some bread says that it’s processed with other products that contain milk, so is it worth it to eat? Do y’all just steer clear of those?
Hello folks,
I've noticed lately then when I eat certain dairy products, particularly creamy deserts or milk chocolate, I get the symptoms of lactose intolerance as described on the NHS website. They come on quite quickly.
This came to a head recently when I made a creamy pasta sauce from scratch twice. Once with full fat cream, and again with low fat cream. After the full fat version I was fine. However, after the low fat recipe, I started getting symptoms after the meal.
Since then I've avoided eating anything that contains reduced fat dairy, but have continued to eat foods containing full-fat dairy / whole milk etc. Thus far, the symptoms have not returned.
Looking through this sub, I see quite a few people have problems with full fat dairy, but I seem to be the opposite. I'm wondering if my situation sounds like lactose intolerance, given that I'm fine with full fat dairy?
Thank you!
If I use lactose free milk to make lactose free cottage cheese (since no stores seem to sell it in the uk) will the whey that’s separated also be lactose free?
Hi everyone. I recently found out I'm lactose intolerant. Milk gave me bloating, nausea, stomach pain etc. I didn't think much of it before because I thought maybe it would go away but then cheese and other milk products started doing the same thing. Even thinking of milk gives me a nauseous feeling :(. I'm in my early 20s and not to sound dramatic but I'm not doing well with all the changes I have to make. I love ice cream, milk teas, cheese...it's rough. I got lactose pills recently. Lactaid...not sure how well they work but I don't know who to ask and I just found this community. Not sure 3 is working so far and I don't know if drinking more pills will help. Can anyone share any tips? As well as how to adapt to these changes. I don't really want to give up my favorite deserts :((. I'll take any tips to though. I also recently got almond milk is that any good?
I usually take 8 fast acting lactaid brand lactase pills with one medium size dairy queen blizzard. Or 4 pills with two scoops of cold stone ice cream. It works for me but is it safe?
Does anyone have a list of how many lactase I need per type of food? For instance 2 lactase pills for a slice of pizza
For context I have an extreme intolerance to lactose. At this point it could even be an allergy to milk, I’m not sure, never got tested yet.
So yesterday I had a reaction with something, felt very nauseous. Yesterday I had extra sharp cheddar cheese, and some pastries that turned out they had yogurt.
Then, today, I didn’t eat the pastries at all but at the end of the day I had two quesadillas with sharp cheddar. Now at 5 in the morning I am seriously sick to my stomach.
Could it be the extra sharp cheddar?
I was under the impression that had almost zero lactose so if it is causing a reaction then it seems like I am either extremely lactose intolerant or allergic to milk.
Has anyone else experienced this?
This is like really aged cheese.
How long did it take for the mucus in your stool to disappear after removing the lactose? I removed lactose 4 days ago and I'm still having mucus in my stool
