Razorback fan here. As you can tell, I'm not the best at rooting for winning teams. Habitually, since I was a teen, Arkansas wins until I turn on the TV and start watching, then they throw the game.

I played College Football 25 and absolutely fell in love with the War Chant tradition so I started following FSU this year. The only game I didn't watch? The California game.

I'm sorry. I'll quit watching y'all now 😂 expect a win against UNC this weekend!

Below is the amount of money every public FBS school spent on recruiting for FY2023 (runs from July 1st, 2022 to June 30th, 2023), ranked. FY2024 typically won't be out until January. These expenditures include:

-Recruiting (Spending on transportation, lodging, meals, and other personnel and administrative expenses relating to recruitment of prospective student-athletes.)

Some caveats:

-Private schools are not required by law to put out P&Ls, so we do not have access to how much private schools spend on recruiting.

Now, what you'll notice is that 40th is not as high as we should be. The results speak for themselves. We finished 19th overall in the 2023 recruiting rankings. The top 10 in the recruiting rankings were Alabama (11th in spending), Georgia (1st in spending), Texas (4th in spending), Ohio State (12th in spending), Oklahoma (3rd in spending), LSU (8th in spending), Miami, USC, Oregon (22nd in spending), Tennessee (10th in spending).

In short, you need to spend money on recruiting in order (in general) to get good recruiting classes. It is pretty clear that Mike Norvell and crew are not dedicating the resources to spend on recruiting. How do we know? Because we've been higher in the spending rankings before!

Below this chart is year by year on where we rank in recruiting spending. You can literally spot when Mike Norvell was hired. You can also see that your recruiting ranking loosely follows your recruiting spending.

2014 - 22nd (4th ranked class)
2015 - 17th (3rd ranked class)
2016 - 22nd (3rd ranked class)
2017 - 2nd (6th ranked class)
2018 - 12th (11th ranked class)
2019 - 15th (18th ranked class)
2020 - 17th (22nd ranked class)
2021 - 47th (23rd ranked class)
2022 - 50th (20th ranked class)
2023 - 40th (19th ranked class)

TL;DR - It's pretty clear that Mike and his staff has not been prioritizing recruiting. We have the resources at FSU to put more money to recruiting than schools like UConn or Indiana, so why aren't we spending more on it? Obviously, the transfer portal has been working for Mike until this point, but hopefully he realizes that high school recruiting is more important to building a solid foundation.

Hi noles. I searched for previous threads about this before posting but didn’t find anything that directly addresses what I’m asking.

My wife and I bought a pass in Lot 14 for the UNC game and I want to know what the expectations and norms are, particularly in Lot 14. I’ve stopped by tailgates tons of times over the years but this is the first time we’re actually the ones doing the tailgating.

• The parking pass makes it seem like I have a specific spot (it says “Number: XXXXX”). Is that correct? If I do have a specific spot, is it marked somehow?

• How much real estate should I expect? Like is our space just the length of our bumper, or is there a berth between our car and the ones to each side?

• We’re planning on getting there between 10 and 11. In your experience, is that early enough to get in pretty seamlessly? Is there a point (e.g. 4 hours before kickoff, 3 hours before kickoff) where it becomes considerably harder to get in, get parked, and get set up?

Any other general tailgate hosting advice is welcome and appreciated. Thanks!

How did Pitt do this?

#1 Pitt hired an elite offensive coordinator from Western Carolina who installed a no huddle spread offense and found the right QB to run this offense from the portal.

#2 The QB was Eli Holstein a former 4 star, Top 100 player from Alabama. Holstein is a dual threat who can use his legs to get first downs. Even though he never played a game at Bama he obviously gelled with Pitt’s new OC and has thrived in Pitt’s system.

#3 Narduzzi promoted one of Pitt’s best young coaches (a safeties coach) to an assistant head coach. Would love to see Surtain be promoted to DC.

#4 Narduzzi also brought in a new Offensive Line Coach, Tight End Coach, WR coach and RB/Special teams coach. Basically Narduzzi cleaned house, exactly what FSU needs to do.

#5 Pitt had some decent returning starters especially on defense and they built around those players. Hopefully MJJ, Darrell Jackson and AZ Thomas stay. You need a nucleus to build around.

#6 Big difference is Pitt did this with probably 1/5th the NIL money FSU has, so point being if FSU follows Pitt’s blueprint and uses the bulk of its NIL money on offensive lineman and a tight end there is no reason FSU can’t be 8-4 or 9-3 next year.

EDIT: I've settled on a game, and while it is outside of my original want of within 20 years, (which was mostly just because it would be more available) I have settled on the January 2nd, 1995 Sugar Bowl. Which I was able to find in its entirety on Youtube.

My family is looking to watch an older game. Probably within the last 20 years. We want to see a great FSU game against Florida. I don't have a great memory when it comes to games I've seen. I just want us all to sit down and watch a hard fought game, maybe some nice back and forth. Equal pairing type of game. Is there anything that comes to mind for you?

We SHOULD win against Charleston Southern. We have the capacity to lose. Winning that game gives us nothing.

But UNC is one that we should lose but we can win. Finishing 3-9 is shameful yes but getting a win Saturday can show us something to build on with the players we have. I know it's easy to hate this team but I will always support them and I know they can win this game. The pieces are there.

There's no pressure to win this game though, if we lose then it's what is expected of us. So we need to try things out. We did that some in the Miami game and sadly the Wildcat play didn't get used. I hope Luke gets more practice and the new guys step up. Go Noles!
