It's our first Thursday gameday of the season! For those new to the community, Thursdays are generally big days during the season, filled with games. Later on during conference play, the ACC and SEC schedules are loaded with matchups. We've got a pretty intriguing game tonight with #17 Florida State travelling to Champaign to face Illinois, who may be unranked, but are receiving votes in our preseason poll. Also, later tonight, we have an old "Pac-12" rivalry game with Washington State taking on Stanford, who is unranked in the AP preseason poll for the first time since 1999.

A distraction for those of us hurting and scared, a look at what role Women's basketball will take on. Click below and please stay safe and know you are loved.
For the first time this season, we've got a day without any ranked teams playing. That doesn't stop the party from rolling on! We've got three teams who received Top 25 votes in action and it'll be interesting to see if they play more like Michigan or Princeton. For the uninitiated, FloHoops is the bane of this sub's existence.

It’s looking like 1/3 or so of the Hawkeyes games will be on B1G10+ this year. I’ve never had an issue watching Iowa games until now. I’m only interested in watching games live. How are other people watching their games on B1G10+? Is it worth it to purchase?
It seems that while many teams like to play weaker teams in their opener, Dawn Staley seems to prefer strong for an opener. After yesterday's tough game, Dawn Staley said she was glad they were exposed so now they have lots of film to study.
I am beginning to think this is a great approach. Rather than look good against weaker teams, get the tough games in early, see what you need to work on, and then success later in the season is easier to achieve.
What do you think?
I saw Nika Muhl's sister, Hana, had a huge game against Rutgers yesterday (Rutgers edged out Manhattan) and I was curious to see how Kiyomi did. However, when I pulled up the box score it said she started but only played 4 minutes. Does anyone know if she got hurt? Or was it a coaching decision? I was really looking forward to see her pop off but is there a chance we won't see much of her this season?
The lady friars open the 2024-25 season with a win over division 2 mercy university 64-32. The game result will not count for Mercy, but will for Providence.
Olivia Olsen was the leading scorer for PC with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The lady friars defense looked good with 14 steals and 8 blocks.
The lady friars were voted third place in the big east pre season poll this year. Excited to see what second year head coach Erin Batth has in store.
It's Day 2 of the new season and while we don't have the exciting headliner matchups from Opening Day, we may get a couple exciting games like Michigan gave us last night.

I watched hoops for a full 12 hours yesterday and am rife with thoughts and ready for conversation!
My biggest takeaways:
Seems like there might be more parity than ever this season. Even though it was the first game for every team, the fact that none of the top 5 teams blew out their opponents despite playing unranked or borderline top 25 teams really surprised me. Remember last year on opening day South Carolina walloped a good Notre Dame team by 30 in Paris and that was definitely an indicator of things to come. Still need to see some other top teams play decent competition though.
Sayla Swords is HER. Whoa what a debut, looked to be the best player on the floor most of the game. Definitely a top contender for NFOY imo.
Gardiner might be the real winner the transfer portal. Her shooting yesterday was unreal and paired next to Betts thats the best front court in the country imo. The only thing that can stop that UCLA this season is those guards and that coach.
Where have all the shooters gone? Of the top team that played yesterday only ONE shot a percentage in the 30’s from three and it was UCLA AND their best shooters were their bigs. USC, SC, Notre Dame (despite playing a dII school essentially) all shot terribly from outside. Outlier or trend? Something to watch for sure.
Chemistry development will be key and probably the most interesting thing to watch this year. Betts and Gardiner already had excellent chemistry despite just starting to play together. Other teams seemed to really me missing familiar connections and comfort ability on the court however. Where will chemistry develop and where are there elements that just won’t mix well? I have my thoughts but would love y’all’s!
Ok those are my big 5 thoughts. Would love reactions overreactions and additional observations to distract from what will be a stressful day!
The epitome of brutality.
Who loses to UMSL?
Super cool to see Jaylyn back supporting the Buffs after her undrafted to champion rookie W season.
