Hey guys!
I've been thinking of changing to a Chromebook since nowadays I have a laptop for work and for personal use, I mostly use it for light work (Google Docs or Office) and media consumption (music, movies/shoes, etc).
I'm also a fan of GeForce Now so I was looking at Chromebooks that have a 120hz screen and are upgradeable to Plus.
I'm living in Portugal so the choice isn't very large but this Gaming Ideapad 5 is being sold brand new at that price. The specs are:
What do you think? I think it's a good choice but let me know your opinion.
I got my chromebook a year ago, I loved it. I could play games on it like this off road one, but since the day afer, it can run bearly enything unless it's on google, pls can u help.
As the title says I want to give my chromebook to a tech savvy family member, however I have some very sensitive personal info and media on it, so I just wanted to be sure will powerwashing completely wipe all local data, free space and make it so that it is completely irrecoverable?
Hello guys,
I've been looking to get a cheap Chromebook with ChromeOS to get some basic work done and have a back-up laptop in case of an emergency. I also like owning weird things and Chromebooks aren't that common here.
I do web development for a living (mostly in TS/JS and PHP) and work mostly within the Google Cloud ecosystem. I already have a more powerful laptop with Linux, but battery only lasts about 3 hours and the power grid where I live isn't really trustworthy.
A friend of mine is offering me a Asus Chromebook CX1500CNA with an Intel Celeron 3050 and 4GB of RAM, for 64 USD. I've also read it could last 10 hours on a single charge.
I hope I could use it to run PHP, NodeJS and MariaDB on the Linux Development Environment and do some video conferencing from time to time (not both at the same time, just switch between them when needed). I might run VSCode too but I can do things with VIM just fine.
However, I'm not sure if this would be feasible with such low specs. I've worked OK with 4GB of RAM in the past, but the processor was probably a bit better than a Celeron. Plus, since Linux runs on a VM, it probably takes away some of the memory.
I would like to hear your thoughts: do you think I will regret my decision if I follow through?
Before this year, Chromebooks weren't supported because they didn't have GPS chips inside
With the new network using Bluetooth low energy, would FMD be compatible Chromebooks with a LE BT chips?
I know I could do it with Android but can I unlock my Chromebook with my iPhone being nearby?

I am a big fan of ChromeOS and the Chromebook experience. I was a chromebook pixel user from ~2013-2017, but I had to switch to a more traditional Linux/Ubuntu machine because of my work in data science and forecasting/modelling. Recently, I have gone back to the chromebook as a temporary solution while my home machine was out for repairs (I bought a refurbished HP Chromebook for less than $100 on Amazon.) It was really nice to go back to this OS! Even after getting my old machine repaired I kept using the Chromebook, and with the new Linux terminal and features and the Android app support, it really seems like I could switch to this OS for the bulk of my work (I do a lot of work via SSH into super computing clusters, so I do have some flexibility as compared to other people who do similar computational work.) BUT the issue I have is that the current lineup of Chromebooks lack anything like the Pixel with more serious processing power/storage and high end hardware. Do we expect anything like that to launch anytime soon? I know ChromeOS is meant for only internet, but a few Chrome tabs and windows open and that already starts to take up a lot of memory. Then add the Linux terminal and the android app and you can really up the memory requirements...
Hey all,
Just installed a new ssd into my chrome box and I pulled it out of an old acer chrome book. Put it into the chrome box and powered it up and was met with the chrome os is missing screen. I pressed ctrl d and nothing happened. And I was looking online but everyone had chromebooks and was able to refresh using the power key but I don’t have that since it’s a chrome box.

In ChromeOS, specifically with the Android subsystem (ARCVM), a critical issue has been identified regarding the persistence of device-wide read and write permissions (storage) for applications. This issue primarily affects document manipulation applications, such as office suites, that require access to files beyond media files.
When device-wide read and write permissions are granted to an application, these permissions are not saved permanently after system reboot. Despite attempts to set permissions using methods such as MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE via adb (for example, adb shell appops set --uid com.microsoft.office.word MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE allow
), permissions are lost after each device reboot.
This issue significantly hampers the functionality of office applications and other applications requiring persistent access to files on the device. Anyone has a clue what's happening?
Long story short my favourite drawing program, krita, has bee upgraded to 5.2.2 version. This version tho has a bug that doesn't let the app open on chroomebooks, it says that the app encountered a fatal error (?) and cannot continue. it's a total black screen with just this message.
Now i tried reporting the bug but they still didn't fix it. The only way i can fix it for now is to install the 5.1.2 version that worked just fine. i tried install it with linux but the pressure of my drawing tablet doesn't work with that for some reason.
so, is there a way to get the 5.1.2 version from the app store?
hi, posting on behalf of my sister who's been using Cursive to take notes. she'd been using it without an account before, but the app was getting laggy so she decided to log in to her google account and sync it to save her notes in case the app crashed and lost anything.
however, since syncing the account, some notes appear, but some have completely disappeared. they are not in the bin. the timestamps of the present notes also vary and there's not one 'cut-off' point where notes stopped being transferred, it just seems random.
anything we can do to retrieve the missing notes? has anyone experienced this problem before? thanks in advance!
Calibre software recently stopped working after an update. Originally I installed Calibre from Flathub, I want to roll back to an older version (which Flathub doesn't host).
When I try doing so with the command lines from the Calibre website, the prompt asks me for a sudo password. There was never a stage in Linux setup that required me to create a password and I never have done.
Can anyone help?
Can I use a Lenovo 100e 2nd Gen Intel battery inside a 2nd gen AMD device, or would that cause any major issues?
Thanks.
Hey there,
I've got a C302C, worked fine apart from the keyboard wouldn't function properly so I replaced the entire keyboard assembly (keyboard, mouse and bottom chassis). This has worked fine other than when I close the lid the screen stays on and the touch screen can be pressed etc by accident. Any ideas?
I though it's maybe driven by the magnets at the front of the chassis, detecting when the lid is closed, but this doesn't seem to be it unless I'm missing something.
I recently picked up an Acer C738T for a great price. It's my first Chromebook. My intention was to install Zorin (Linux). But, I'm really surprised how much I actually like using ChromeOS. It seems to do everything that I need.
Should I be concerned that it's no longer receiving updates? How unsafe is it to use an older, unsupported Chromebook?
For the past day and a half, I’ve been trying to install linux onto my system to no avail at all, I already power washed it, used a recovery partition, set the channel to beta and developer. But still I’ve been unable to download it. Can anyone help? (Chromebook Acer spin 713)
I have had my Chromebook for several years now and I am wondering if I just need to buy a new laptop
I'm trying to record footage of my screen as I'm Photoshopping stuff for my YouTube channel, but every time I do it always shuts off immediately saying that it can't record protected content. Does anyone know how I can fix this? It's very annoying.
With my old Chromebook, on the main Amazon.com home page, the entire top menu is replaced with a white rectangle, and only "Skip to main content" is an option. When browsing in Guest Mode, Amazon behaves normally, but it also behaves normally when browsing as myself on a different computer.
I feel like there must be an accessibility setting or combination of settings that I need to change. Help?
I love chrome os but is it possible. To play 4kUHD movies on chromebox. Or do I need edtion hardware it's isn't a issue. That chrome os can't play 4kUHD i just want comfirme.
Looks like the old Productivity Launcher flag has been removed... If anyone knows any way to get it back it'll be helpful.
Hi. This is my CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3337U CPU @ 180GHz, 1801 Mhz, 2 core(s), which recovery image should I get for the installation? Also which is the best guide for this. I'm new here. Thank you
I found a video and an article, and each of them say to enable adb debugging in the Linux settings. But to do that I have to have the play store enabled, which I do. But when I go back to enable the setting, the section 'Develop Android Apps' isn't even there. I don't want to enable developer mode since I also saw some posts on Google saying that the dev mode didn't help.
Don't know if it'll help but here's some info Os version: 123.0.6312.132 Android version: 11 Mediatek MT8173 Chromebook
Guys, my sound is GONE, i have tried:Taking out my headphones and playing, changing volume a bit and then playing sound and a lot more. Can one of you all or maybe even ChromeOS please help me?
