Brunch or FydeOS? What would do you like? And what's their similarities and differences?

I know they both support Android...
But, what's their differences?

Brunch+Haswell?

Hello, I am finding contradicting information. Should I expect a Haswell laptop to work properly with brunch?

The issue with the microphone during setup on Dell Inspiron 5490

I encounter an issue after setup; I am unable to use the built-in microphone or headphones.

I have tried switching between kernels and toggling between the two fix mic options, but none have been effective.

My device is Dell inspirion 5490:

CPU: Intel core I5 10210

GPU: Intel

Help with not getting past the CrOS logo

Yup, as it says in the title.

device:

Windows 10

HP Notebook 14 - am034tx

Intel Core i3 5005U (5th gen)

AMD Radeon R5 M430

4gb DDR3 RAM

500gb HDD

I installed Shyvana as it's the closest compatible with my system. In the tutorial I watched, Shyvana was still available from 4th gen so that's another reason why I downloaded it. Although, doing a quick check, I should probably have installed Lulu instead? I just checked Lulu and turns out it's on a dell chromebook with the same cpu as my laptop.

The default graphics card is also the amd instead of the onboard windows graphics card, would that have affected my results as well?

I'd really appreciate some of your thoughts on this, thank you!

Questions Re: Using Brunch on MS Surface Pro 5 Advanced (i.e., with LTE)

I posted this on Brunch Github discussions page before. I did not get any response there. I am copying it here in the hope that I will get more attention.

---

I would like to solicit help from you Brunch gurus.

I used to enjoy using Brunch on Microsoft SurfacePro 5 Advanced (2017). I could sudo in the terminal just fine, and my MPP 2.0 stylus/pen (Raphael 520C) worked with its pressure correctly picked up. I was very happy and very grateful to all the people who contributed to make this possible, especially sebanc.

Recently I tried to upgrade to r119, and that's when all the hell broke loose. I could not log on and even after a powerwash, it still did not let me log in saying cryptohome was broken. Oh, well -- time for a clean reinstallation.

I reinstalled r119 afresh with the Kench recovery. SP5 uses Core i5-7300U, which is used by HP Chromebox G2, which is codenamed Kench.

It ran fine and with the ipts framework option turned on, the touch screen works. However, my stylus does not work at all. I really need to be able to use this pen so this is a deal breaker. So here's my first question.

  • Q1: What is the latest Brunch version where MPP styli still worked?

I was also bummed out to learn that I could no longer sudo after invoking Crosh and then "shell." Supposedly I am expected to invoke VT-2 for that but I am not sure how to do it on my SP5. Obviously I am supposed to "Ctrl + Alt + RightArrow" but it does not do anything. Hence my second question.

  • Q2: Is it possible to sudo like the way I used to be able to? If I have to invoke VT-2, how do I do that on my SP5. I do not want to install a full-fledged Linux distro; I just want to use Chromebrew and install a few utilities.

I have downgraded to r114, which gave me sudo again, but not stylus support.

I'd appreciate your input very much! Thanks!

Chromeos can't see laptop charging

This is for the most part not an issue. The laptop still charges, chromeos still shows a battery percentage, everything is fine. However, Linux in chromeos cannot be updated without the device plugged in, it just says to plug in the device and retry. It has no idea it's already plugged in. Is there a solution for this?

Laptop is a Dell latitude 7390

wireguard

setting the native wireguard chromeos client doesn't allow me to connect to the local subnet - there is something wrong with the routing.

the same configuration works fine on pure ChromeOS

(i did the setup on a Chromebook and a Brunchbook using GUI and/or Crosh CLI)

mitigations=off

on Brunch again after a year

and i did find out, that the kernel boot parameter mitigations=off isn't working anymore with the crostini linux container

if set, it doesn't allow you to start or to configure the linux environment

just for info, if anyone experiences similar problems

Any guidance on dual boot for Galaxy Book Pro 360?

Hey, I'm new here, live in Brazil, where there aren't high-end Chromebooks for sale. I'd like to enhance my Google ecosystem by using a laptop with ChromeOS, but wouldn't like to lose Windows.

Would anyone be so kind to point me out to a decent, reliable guide to dual boot ChromeOS on Windows 11, mainly for Samsung? There are lots of divergences on YouTube videos, unfortunately.

Thank you so much!

121 issues on 540p lenovo

All software up to 120 is fine. But either upgrading or doing a clean install with 121 gets to the chromeos screen and hangs. Has anyone else seen these issues? I have tried with rammus and octopus, both exhibit the same problem.

Black screen stuck for hours

I have a surface laptop 4 with a ryzen 5 4680 i believe and I have tried both usb and dual boot for brunch and it ended up stuck at a black screen for a very long time (8 hours). I also tried getting Phoenix OS but that too left me on a black screen so i was wondering if someone knows a fix for this issue.

3 Bruchbooks have entered the chat

I decided to plunge into installing ChromeOS on to a couple of different Thinkpads (T570 16GB Ram 512HD 7th gen intel and T14G3 32GB Ram 1TBD 12th gen intel) and a Minisforum UN1265 with 32GB Ram and 1TBHD 12th gen intel and I find that ChromeOS runs very well on all of the devices save the T14G3 microphone. Overall very happy!

Chromeos via Brunch is great on cheap netbooks, like my plastic 13.5" 3000x2000 celeron n4020 Kuu YobookM (internal speaker now works with a workaround, internal wifi card also works fine)

Workaround to get the internal speaker working with the essx8336 card : https://github.com/sebanc/brunch/issues/1692#issuecomment-1957793725 (need to run a script after each boot)

BTW I already wrote about Brunch on this device about 2 years ago : https://www.reddit.com/r/Brunchbook/comments/s5p0lf/chromeos_via_brunch_is_great_on_cheap_netbooks/ (at that time the internal wifi card was also not working ... now it works fine, at least with the 6.6 kernel in Brunch Unstable ... )

Which Chrome OS recovery image should I use for an Intel N100 CPU?

I'm currently exploring Branch and I'm looking to install it on my device. My device features an Intel N100 CPU.

Should I use a recovery image for the same CPU generation (in my case, Alder Lake, so "voxel") or should I use a recovery image more specific? (the Acer Spin 512 R856T uses the same cpu, on the cross tech site it says it has codename: craask). Not sure why it has a different codename.

I'm uncertain about compatibility and want to ensure a smooth installation process.Any insights or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

No sleep/suspend on lenovo thinkcentre m910q (i5-6500T)

i want to use this good old piece of hardware as htpc connected to tv, successfully did a single install with brunch r120 and rammus recovery 121. Everything works extremely fine but the thing that makes it a showstopper is i cannot get the system into sleep/suspend or standby mode. tried with suspend_s3, kernel 5.15 but makes no difference. pressing shift-search-l turns display off for 2 seconds but nothing happens. r u guys experiencing the same? any ideas on that or options i can try?

Summary of configuration:
options: pwa,acpi_power_button,suspend_s3
kernel: 5.15
kernel command line parameters: enforce_hyperthreading=1

Help! Very long boot Lenovo 15ALC6

  1. Ryzen 5 5500U
  2. 16 gb ddr4
  3. 512 gb Samsung evo 980 pro
  4. Realtek 8822ce+ Chiconi usb ethernet
  5. ChromeOS 120+gumboz 120 stable

Does it make sense to wait more than 3 hours for recovery after the flash drive stage? I know that the installation process is quite long, but does it really make sense to wait so long at first boot for such an iron or should I look for errorsπŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

HDMI not working on mini PC

Hi, I have a mini PC running Brunch r120 stable 20240107 with Voxel. Its the Intel 1340p version of this: https://shorturl.at/fIRZ1 Everything works great except the HDMI. (There is nothing wrong with the hardware, its fine on windows) The HDMI also does not work on ChromeOS Flex. When running off display port with the HDMI also plugged in ChromeOS can see the HDMI as an option to output to, its just there is no display or audio. Thanks in advance πŸ™‚
