Foodie coming this weekend with the wife and excited! Thank u!
Going to be there for Thanksgiving. What is open with vegan options ?
Let’s go Charleston Battery! 💛🖤⚽️
They’ve been randomly open for a few hours but mostly closed for the last 2 weeks. Anyone know what’s going on? A friend of mine also saw a bunch of cops at the commodore last week too. Both places are suspect so it doesn’t surprise me if they closed for legal reasons
Does anyone know if Academic Magnet allows eighth graders to try out for their sports teams? Thanks!
Going this weekend who has best shrimp and grits? Let's here it!
Thanks
Does anyone know of any cookbook clubs in Charleston? If there isn't one, any interest in joining / creating one?
For those not familiar: https://witanddelight.com/2021/10/cookbook-club/
Is there anyone currently living at or recently lived at the Avalon on James Island. I’m looking for reviews outside of the google ones. It doesn’t need to be a scathing bad review or a glowing positive one. I’m just looking for good honest feedback.
Thanks!
I haven’t been out there in years and I was thinking of taking my mom tomorrow.
So I moved here about a year ago and I live in Summerville and I've really found making social connections challenging so far. I'm 40m, happily engaged, and I moved here to co-parent my 11 year old daughter and her 7 year old sister. I work from home in tech and software and while I'm totally down to go out to eat and do stuff solo and with my fiance I don't drink or bar/club. It feels like getting a sense of what's going on around here is hard and most of the stuff I do see is 30+ minutes away. I also am not a big church person which also seems to be a huge deal here.
I'm a huge foodie, me and my fiance travel quite a bit, she lives in Atlanta and we bounce between here and there. I have the opposite experience there where I feel like we're decided which things we want to do and when we're here we're trying to find things to do. I like nerdy stuff like (board games, DnD, Anime, Fantasy and Sci Fi), We're both into music (not country), stand up comedy (not racist or sexist stuff), museums and the arts, I'm a casual sports fan (Florida Gators, Miami Heat, and Tampa Bay Bucs), I'm into tech/AI/social sciences and We both like doing stuff related to social justice issues like civil rights, criminal justice reform, housing etc. So it's not like either of us have a lack of interests.
Getting politically active has been both parts easy and frustrating but also probably adds to the making it hard to make friends here. I feel like a lot of people either intentionally avoid politics to get along or are so clearly out of alignment with our social values that it would make being real friends challenging to impossible.
Any thoughts or suggestions on better ways to get out and connect or places/events that would be up our alley based on the above?
Hi everyone! I have shoulder-length, 3c curly hair, and I’m looking for recommendations for a salon/barbershop where I can get a haircut for under $65 and pricing for a dye job is negotiable. I’d like a pixie cut and a ginger color, but I’m finding that many stylists seem to either prefer working with relaxed hair or charge significantly more for curly hair.
I’m also not interested in specialized curly cuts, as they haven’t worked well for my hair in the past. Ideally, I’d love to find a place within a two-hour radius of Charleston. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
I’m gonna be moving to Charleston soon and West Ashley looks like the most affordable area. Does anyone have recommendations on the safest and best apartments in WA? I’m also trying to keep it affordable. I was looking into Westchase. My bf lives in Village Square so was also thinking getting a place there (we aren’t gonna be moving in together yet). I also saw the Abberly might be a good option?
Female gonna be living alone so I want to be sure I’m in a safe complex and area.
Teak wood/quality build with a reasonable price. Anyone know places where we can check anything like this out?
I really feel any decision Charleston county or the city makes they always leave west Ashley to the back burner or it is some asinine proposal/decision. I personally feel that west Ashley should be its own town/city at this point.
Wondering if anyone local has any recs on affordable dental insurance that is generally accepted at most local places. I’ve been liking North Rivers Dental and they told me to get insurance to decrease the cost of the work I need. Shoot me your best recs!
Hey everybody, a business that I share a property line with has a tall tree with a limb that now hangs down across my backyard fence to the point where you will hit the branch with your head walking by. I never liked the extra leaves falling but I let it go for years. I now feel it is enough of a nuisance that I want the branch trimmed beyond the property line. The business came out and looked at it, with their arborist, but refused to pay for the trimming because the branch was healthy. They said if I want to cut it myself have at it.
I can't seem to find any definitive laws regarding financial responsibility for a business with overhanging nuisance limbs. Does anyone have insight into this situation. I'm in West Ashley. Thanks!
Can anyone recommend a drywall professional? Someone that will get it right the first time?
Does anyone know why they shut down? Especially after being around for 12 years.
Mahalo and have a great Navy day.
Looking to trade for mattress or couch.
Will be visiting Charleston for the first time while in town for work for a few days.
Staying in the downtown area - What are your recommendations as far as restaurants (any cuisine) and worthwhile sites etc?
Thanks!
Has anyone been recently? It seems like they’re a little jumbled with what they offer, photos don’t match what’s listed as their current menu. Hoping to get some more current experiences.
I could use some ideas for bars or any activities that sway a bit older. Or if there are singles meetups/dating events, I could try to muster up the courage to attend one of those
Traffic is backed up pretty bad near the 209 exit. Might wanna take another route. Haven't moved in 6 minutes
Would like to hear some honest opinions on elementary schools in the area - specifically john’s island but curious about all. Want to hear about public and private schools. Would love to hear from teachers about their opinions but also curious on parent perspectives. Thanks!
My gf said she saw a handful of people on the side of the road, possibly protesting....? I was curious to know if anyone knew more than we do.
