Tech/Electronics stores around CHS?

Hopefully not too off topic, but are there any proper electronics parts stores around around Charleston? Something like Radio Shack used to be? I found myself in need of a DB-9 serial null modem adapter today and have no clue where to look besides Amazon.

Volunteer Math Tutoring in Charleston

Hi! I'm a volunteer with Heart Math Tutoring, a non-profit that helps volunteers to tutor math basics at elementary schools in Charleston. We are looking for more volunteers for the 2022/23 school year!

I thought people in this subreddit might be interested since math is so important to kids' ability to get into STEM careers. Many of Charleston’s elementary school students are performing below grade level in math and really need individualized support. Volunteering with Heart Math Tutoring is a fun, effective way to make a difference by working one-on-one with the same student(s) each week, using easy-to-follow interactive activities and games. It only takes a commitment of 30 minutes or 1 hour per week. The math involved includes counting, comparing numbers, and addition/subtraction.

I have volunteered with Heart Math Tutoring since 2014 when they were starting out in Charlotte, NC and love it! This is their second year in Charleston. It is a phenomenal program and has been proven to be very effective. The kids are so much fun and it's incredible seeing them get more and more confident in themselves!

You can sign up or read more at heartmathtutoring.org/new-programs/charleston. Please feel free to ask me any questions!

Thank you!

Is this sub completely dead?

Wouldn't be surprised given the state of "Charleston Tech", but all the same.

Seeking Advice - Can't find entry-level job

Hi,

I am new to this subreddit and figured I should make a post to see if anyone could offer some suggestions regarding my process on how to get my foot through the door with IT here. I can put up my resume if need be otherwise I'll just keep it like this for now. Basically, I hold two degrees... BA in History from CofC and a technical degree from TTC in Information Systems. I just recently got my BA back in August 2019, and have been searching for a gateway into IT ever since. However, I am starting to think that I need to relocate or something because there's hardly any low-level tech jobs out there. Charleston is a destination city and it seems to be mainly comprised of middle and upper level gigs. I have been searching for nearly a year now and still no luck. Plus, COVID-19 isn't making the situation any easier too. Granted, my skills and experienced are pretty limited to what I've previous done job wise but still that should be enough to land something at least. The jobs I've been targeting are Help Desk, Desktop Analyst, PC Technician, and hell even more business related customer support roles. In return, the responses are usually being ghosted or they've decided to go with someone else.

I don't know what to think anymore about it all. Perhaps, I am doing something completely wrong or this could be a sign to pursue a different career path.

Thoughts?

Looking for work - trying to get my foot in the door.

I am currently a student at Trident in the Cybersecurity program. My current job does not afford me an opportunity to get any IT related experience, and with full time school AND full time parenting, it's a bit hard to find time to learn these things "on my own".

Does anyone know of any internship or apprenticeship positions coming up in the area? Something that would help teach from the ground up and build experience? My end goal is to get into a security role, but I will gladly start from help desk if it helps me learn and get in the industry.

Any and all advice would be appreciated, thank you!

React Developer

Hi,

I am seeking an experienced React/Node individual with 3 years of experience. Our customer's product has taken off and we are seeking someone to help create superior software products mainly focused on the front end. This is a direct hire with a client based in downtown CHS and this is a great opportunity with how much growth they are expecting in 2020.

Anyone know much about the software company Anatta?

Does anyone know much about the software company Anatta? I'm researching other software companies as I soft-search for new opportunities. I'd love to hear more about if it's a great place to work, interview process, benefits, etc. Thanks!

Looking to transition into IT/tech, need advice

I am looking to change careers from automotive to IT/tech and I'm not entirely certain where to start. I have no educational background or work experience in the field, but I have sustained a minor back injury while working and I want to get out of this field before it becomes a problem.

What's the best way to start transitioning into this kind of work? What school would you recommend I go to, if you recommend school at all? What do employers in the area look for when considering applicants? Any and all advice would help.

Alternatives to tech?

Hey guys I have been out of work for about 6 months and I am starting to think I will have to start again in some other field, so I am searching for ideas.

I will start out with a little bit about me, I am in my mid 50's so I cant really do blue collar any more (bad back, gout, etc.) I have worked support most of my life off and on, I tried building my own company once, and I have done some independent HTML work.

At this point I am looking for anything that will pay the bills, I would prefer support/help desk or very entry level programming (I have programmed most of my life as a hobby, but not much professionally), but after 6 months, most of the big players just ignore my indeed resume when I send it.

Any ideas would be great, thanks for taking a minute to read this.

Looking for work

Looking for part time work to fill my time. My experience is in manufacturing/industrial engineering. I can assist with automating reports, data analysis, time studies/process improvements. I enjoy manufacturing facilities and like to learn from people on the floor... hoping to spend my time on weekends working on projects for manufacturers in the area.

Looking for help with CASP (CAS-003)

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for someone that has taken the CASP (CAS-003) that can offer to help me get through this exam. I have read the CompTia book, the Abernathy and McMillian book, taken all of the test questions and SIMs through the CompTia website, and other various SIMs. I have only been studying this information for about 1 month but I need to get this cert for a job that is waiting for me. Any and all help is appreciated and would gladly pay for a tudor who has taken and passed this cert.

Sincerely,

T. Collins

Internet options question

New to the area. Renting in North Charleston. Our apartments are under a contract with Comcast. My experience with Comcast is less than ideal. Does anyone in the area have good luck with cellular hotspot for whole home internet, or do I just have to bite the bullet?

Thank you for your help!
