I'm not entirely sure how active this sub is but, who knows?
I've [M29] recently discovered that I want to cut hair for a living, which I think my family would take as an 'out of left field' and be reluctantly supportive. It would be walking away from a full time job to enroll into cosmetology school. I'm hesitant to book a tour of a local school because, I'm not entirely sure what the take away would be? I'm of the mentality that cosmetology school is going to have it's ups and downs, and they went over what's taught in the course (so I have expectations of the theory).
My other biggest worry is that social anxiety is something I struggle with, I am by no means a social butterfly and am more of a wallflower.
Hello everyone! I(F24) have been heavily considering cosmetology school within the past year or so. I have a choice between Paul Mitchell and Taylor Andrews (Utah based company.) I guess I just want to know other peoples opinions. If you went to one of these schools, what was is like? I’m nervous i’m going to be one of the oldest people there and that worries me. Any experiences at all would be very helpful! Thanks everyone.
Curious about different salary's on area How much do you make on average. Are there any male hairdressers out there? Do you make enough to support a family? Are there any pros and cons to being a male hairdresser? Does it matter that I am straight?

A few days ago I witnessed a lady yelling at an hair stylist over a coloring matter. I felt so bad for the hair stylist because I could tell it was miscommunication in the first place. I am thinking of going to cosmetology school and becoming a hair stylist myself, but I don't know if I could deal with a screaming lady in my face.
Please comment your pros and cons of working in the beauty industry. What's hard about the job and what are the cool perks?
Sincerely,
Shannon xx
Hey all, i hope this isn't violating rules. i'm currently researching an idea in hopes of understanding the frustrations and pain that women of color face in trying to purchase makeup/cosmetics that matches their skintone and would love a little of your time. Thank you in advance!
Hello everyone! I'm looking for some advice on what haircut would be best and how to ask for it... I have a square face, shallow jaw but high, prominent cheekbones. I love cute round faces, and search for cuts to make my face look more circular, but my results are either how to do this with makeup (not hair) or what cuts will make your face look LESS round. I was thinking a semi-blunt bob, ending at just before the indent below my cheekbones. Would that work? Any advice is appreciated!
I'm ready for all this humidity to go away so I can 'do' something with my hair again!
A couple months ago I got acrylics for the first time ever, having been afraid of them 'destroying' my nails.
I don't live in a very populated area so Yelp and Google reviews and FB aren't very reliable to help me find a 'home' salon. I've started with the one closest to my house and worked outward. So far I've found
At this point, if I ignore the salons with openly hostile reviews, I'm looking at a 25-30 minute drive to get to a salon :\ I'm willing to try a few more times, but is there a point where I should probably just teach myself to do my own fills? Does anybody else have a hard time finding a nail salon that they're comfortable with?
