Be kind with constructive criticism; don't comment anything that is needlessly rude or hurtful. Our community is built around supporting and appreciating nail art, no matter the artist's current skill level.
Critiques or comments including harassment, slurs, and -isms are not allowed. Engaging in the same type of behavior in retaliation is also not acceptable. Report inflammatory comments.
This subreddit is about nails: your nails, others' nails, nail art, nail care, nail issues, nail progress, nail product reviews, tutorials, etc. Not nail related posts are not allowed.
If a pic you post isn't your own, you must use the ~Inspo~ post tag AND either credit the original artist or specify you don't know who the original artist is. Please cite the source of your reference and credit the original artists, including a link to the original source if possible.
Cross-posting from other subreddits is allowed as long as the content follows these rules - rule #4 applies here and a list of polishes and products must be included in the cross post (please do not direct us to the main post).
Include a list of polishes and products used with your post. Posts without lists will be removed after 12 hours. Include the products in the post title, text body, or a separate comment after posting. Brand names and shade names/numbers are required.
Product list should detail each of the main items used; for example, if you used a collection of polishes, each polish should be named. Base and top coat is not necessary to list, but helpful. Number of coats is also helpful, as is spelling out the name of the brand rather than using an acronym.
In the title -> Polish Brand - Polish Name
In the description or as a comment below your post -> βThis is Polish Brand βPolish Nameβ in two coats.β
If you are a professional nail technician posting your own work, a product list is still required.
If your nails were done by someone else or at a salon, describe what you had done best to your ability and tag the post as βSalon Work.β
Sponsored posts* and ADs must be clearly tagged using the appropriate subreddit POST FLAIR (listed below) and your relationship with the brand must be explained (USER FLAIR). This is required by the FTC (see: https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/disclosures-101-social-media-influencers).
Subreddits, including their mods and users, are required to abide by the rules of Reddit TOS, and Reddit communities fall under American Consumer Protection rules; as such, this is the law. Mods will intervene for posts that fail to make their relationship or sponsor with a brand clear to the community. Mods will add the AD tag to posts that appear to fall under these guidelines, and will remove posts that fail to update their posts for clarity.
Sponsored Posts are considered *advertisements** (ADs) - sponsored means paid or compensated to post. Any content featuring an item that was given in turn or with compensation is considered an AD. In the nail polish world, the βPRβ tag is often used to denote sponsored content - βPRβ stands for βpublic relationsβ or βpress releaseβ, thus the item or content becomes a βPR product.β The FTC guidelines say to be specific and avoid jargon, so we are adding βADβ to all sponsored flairs and any post that falls into the following categories for clarity.
POST FLAIR: We require flair on all user postsβ and sponsored posts must be tagged appropriately using the flair options listed below. Posters should also clarify sponsorship details in text when posting, such as whether the product was given freely, a prototype gift, paid content, and so forth.
PAID PR (AD) - When a brand pays you to post ("paid PR product").
USE THE REDDIT BRAND AFFILIATE TOGGLE WHEN POSTING Need help? https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/23972085214484-What-s-a-brand-affiliate-tag
GIFTED PR (AD) - When a brand gives a person an item ("gifted PR product") and that item is used and reviewed and shared publicly.
SELF-PROMO (AD) - You are an influencer, such as a nail technician, sharing your work, but you do not gain direct monetary benefits from exposure.
USER FLAIR: Blogger, Swatcher, and Brand Owner user flair tags are available to make your brand relationship very clear. You can change your user flair on the subreddit sidebar, by your username.
Note: Affiliate links are not allowed. Posts for deals/discounts/and sales on behalf of a brand or as a brand must also be tagged as AD. By nature, these are advertisements and must be tagged as such.
Appreciate nails/nail art WITHOUT mentioning explicit, graphic, or sexual terms. Referring to things as hot, sexy, etc. is not allowed. Please report any explicit or harassing behavior that you see in this subreddit.

It's illegal in my state for salons to cut cuticles, so I have to do it myself. I recently bought a Japonesque nipper and it was terrible.
Recs?
I couldn't wait for my nails, the shiftiness was so shifty I had to grab a video while it was still drying on the magnet! Apologies for the ugly background, my painting table.
Polish: Clionadh Norpsilocin (no base or top coat as it's just a swatch)
3x Mooncatβs velvet rose, 2x seche vite top coat and 2x orly bonder. Iβm not sure how I feel about this one because I feel like itβs terrible to magnetize! Iβm not sure if itβs my beginner ness getting in the way of the potential but I feel like itβs just sort of meh for magnetizing! Other than that itβs quite pretty, a bronze ish pink π©·π©·
First time using Cirque and it went on so smoothly! Iβve been experimenting a lot with magnetics and thermals so it was refreshing to use a simpler color with a subtle shift! Any other good Cirque recommendations?
1 coat Orly Bonder Basecoat 3 thin coats of Cirque Succlent Garden 1 coat KBShimmer Clearly On Top
1 coat Essie Skinny Dip (for stain coverage) over ORLY Bonder Base, 2 coats ILNP Bluebell, Seche Vive TC
So I've NEVER had an indie until THIS SUMMER 2024 (sad and shocking I know) And NEVER have tried a magnetic π§². I'm scared it'll be too hard or I just won't get it right or it'll just lose it's effect after a couple of days. At one point in 2013 I started painting my nails cuz I stopped biting them at 18. So I was 25-26ish before I ever even touched a polish.... π πΌ ββ¨ Stay with me here. β¨ β By 2020 I had almost 1,000 bottles of every drug store polish and color available. I recently this last month saw Phoenixes Phoenix π¦βπ₯ magnetic 𧲠polish π πΌ OMFGGGGG!! π³ Now I really don't paint my nails much but I really do want to. But they're $18+ each on Mercari the ones I like.. What started it was a EDK MAHALO Swatch I SAW .... I HAVE YET TO BUY ONE... I'm π¨ scared lol and broke ππββοΈπ but that's besides the point!! Christmas ππ is coming and I'm treating myself to some polishes. Parrot Polishes are beautiful π€©β€οΈβ€οΈπ€©β€οΈβ€οΈπ€© and about 13 years ago I sent the owner a pair of Betsey Johnson parrot earrings π¦ I just saw their magnetics on Amazon and contacted them. Dave told me he remembered well and how long it had been and that they were sooooo cute and she STILL HAS THE π¦ Parrot earrings π¦ πππ So it was nice to catch up with Parrot Polish. β Now if you're still reading this I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions about magnetics.. or dupes of Phoenix polishes or are there any cheaper pretty options?? I already know what magnets I'm getting on Amazon.. But any cheaper beautiful polishes are NEEDED.. Any SUGGESTIONS welcomed π€π π π©΅π©΅ I have shorter nails cuz they always break on an edge πππββοΈππΆ I'm new to reddit... PLEASE π₯ΊππΌ help a girl out.. I love the colors blue, any shade, purple, teals.. holos.. currently wearing π§ βοΈ Cupcake polish Cloud 9 βοΈ π§ I'm going to try* to take advantage of any Black π€ Friday deals.. so I'm torn between getting Phoenix π¦βπ₯ magnetics, MoonCats π πΊπ π Which I also don't have any of. Also KBSHIMMER, a few more Cupcake polishes π§ not magnetic.. and Parrot Polish... As well as Nailed it and Polished for Days. Swamp Gloss and Sassy Sauce .. What do I do? I only have like less than $150-$200 maybe π€ to spend on a good haul. π π©΅ β¨ π‘ β¨ SUGGESTIONS?β¨π‘ Thank you. This is my first ever post. π©΅ βπΌπβ¨π¬π₯π―
I really like halo tacoβs new Vitamin Glow polish but Iβve heard a lot of people have had issues with the formula being streaky/ low-quality feeling. Idrk if I can justify $14 a bottle for that π Does anyone know of something similar either for a lower price or the same price for better quality?
This will be my first Mooncat purchase and Iβm excited! Also a little worried about all the bottles breaking before they get here, but remain mostly optimistic. The photos on their website are amazing, are any of these anticlimactic in real life? Right now Iβm planning on purchasing:
Fake Halo
Jewel Beetle
Aphrodisiac
Garden of Evil
Devilβs Ivy
Was also thinking of getting the Getting Even nail primer as I need a good ridge filler. Would love to hear your reviews of these choices and see your manis if you have these polishes in your collection! π
For years and years I've been using this bin from Target to store nail polishes. To be clear, the bin fought this tooth and nail (you can see the warped sides and I will spare you the visual of the actual outer drawer this sits in), but I persevered in the name of needing somewhere to hide my stash.
The problem is a few months ago I expanded my palate from "Sally Hansen Miracle Gels collected meticulously over years" to the boutiques and the indies and well....I'm out of room. I literally cannot fit anything else in here. One unnamed base coat is already upside down in here.
My question: How are yall storing these collections?? I like the idea of being able to put them away (hence the drawer) but I'd settle for ... away and upright at this point.
*1 coat Mooncat nail primer
*1 coat Rose Jelly over half the nail (cuticle) *1 coat Crystal over half the nail (tip) *1 coat Essie Gel Setter over the entire nail
Reflective glitter can be kinda meh in the wrong lighting but the right lighting makes it my favorite thing ever.
Looking for a pink or brown base with blue/green shift or a topper with a similar shift. It doesnβt need to be exactly like the picture but a similar vibe?
Who else finds them liking certain polishes more because of the names. I am discovering that I take into account the names of nail polishes more than I originally thought. Also sometimes coordinating the nail polish based on its name to what's going on in my life. Am I the only one?
Hello! I apologize if this question has been asked before. I am just going back to try nail stamping again after they first came out about 15 years ago. It seems like it has come a long way and now I am a little confused about about which products work. I am looking to buy a set of stamping polishes so I have several colors to work with, has anyone tried the holographic chameleon set from Amazon? I also noticed there are stamping gels, does anyone recommend those over polish? Thanks you guys in advance :)
just in time for Wicked! :)
Tis the season to buy things on sale (black friday) and last year I got the Beetles Advent calendar. It was lovely, and this year I would like to get a normal (not gel) polish calendar, preferably from a company with good sparkly polishes. Does anyone know a good one?
Lately, my fingers have started looking really wrinkly, and I canβt figure out why. Back in April, I started using gel polish, and to remove it, I soaked my nails in acetone for too long, which left them looking wrinkled. I stopped using acetone, hoping theyβd return to normal, but they still look the same. Iβve tried moisturizers, but nothing seems to help, and itβs getting really frustrating. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (Also, apologies for how my nails lookβI attempted the cat-eye glass nail trend and, well, it didnβt go as planned!)
