Tips on making blends fade better? I get confused when blending from 1 open to a 0 because i kinda end up making the guide line higher than when i started. Tips?
I would love to minimize the amount of different charging methods on my station, what high end tools share usb-c charging that you are fond of?
Barber school today , today 2 guys got in to a brawl. I have benn working in all aspects of jobs. But never had to deal w staff getting in to a fight.
Im older and know their kids. I have my owen staff, of over 20 staff. I have never had staff brawl. These two guys got in to it. Screaming, name calling , their Hispanic, N word flying. This disturbing, so much I packed up told the instructor Im leaving. They were clients sitting in the chair, seeing and hearing all this. The screaming I will bring my grp in to take care of you , I hear. What does this mean, are they coming to shoot tge place down, I was so bothered.
There is no respect for the clients, no respect for the school or instructor.
What bother me, I my self as a supervisor. Think the instructor should have, asked both students to pack up leave, suspended for 5 days , return talk about the outburst.
But nothing. One guy decided to leave. The other stayed.
I am so unhappy w/ the school, there is no derection with the students (kids) I know they are there to cut hair. But they should be thought respect for them self, buiness.
I think , like to set up to meet w/ the owner and express how I feel. Your thought.
Im looking for some good slim trimmers for freestyle, do we have anything better than the andis slimline for it? i got a babyliss trimmer but the blade is too wide
Just curious what everyone is using as a phone for taking pictures for y’all’s content! iPhone or Samsung !?
Hi guys, 5 months in and I’ve gotten the hang of bald fades finally. This morning I did a pretty good one from a really picky guy (didn’t even go in with my half yet and he asked me to take out the line 😂)
However a guy right after wanted a half fade. I’m used the half guard to establish my line but I swear to shit he was born with a taper on one side. Like , the half looked like a 000 or something. Fuck it ok I’ll do the rest of the line, mf I swear his hair density was all over the place. I tried so many times to get this blended and it looked soooo fucked up.
Basically what I’m asking is if it’s abnormal to make an “excuse”? To say “your hair is just like that” or?? Swear I feel like I look lazy as fuck.
Unfortunately great clips limits my hair cut time, so I try to fix it or come up with solutions, but it’s limited. Any advice?
Oh My. I can wear a turtleneck and all those little hairs make their way into my bra. How on earth do I get it out. Even after washing they still have hairs in them.
Advice appreciated
Edit: auto correct made title wrong it's supposed to say hair*** lol
Hello!
I’ve been wanting to zero gap the clipper for a while as I find myself taking extra time smoothing blends and felt a more flush alignment would help.
But i’ve been struggling with the zero gap process generally. Specifically, keeping the blade straight when screwing, and also ensuring the bottom blade is in the centre of the cutting blade so that it doesn’t overstep when moving side to side.
Would love some tips and advice, and detailed steps for the latter issue if you can.
Thank you!
One of my clients passed away. Before he passed he asked his wife to gift this picture he had to me because I gave home the best beard trim he’s ever had. I had his wife sign it on the back for me as we shared a nice conversation and a few memories. This is why I do what I do, to make relationships and build trust in my community. Barbering isn’t always about cutting hair it’s about taking that extra time to make sure every client feels heard and appreciated.
I feel like the corded masters cut much smoother then the cordless, has anyone noticed this?
That’s about it. You have to work in a high class high influx o of customers and cut in a specific time period. People are too cheap and want to pay $20 a haircut and tip $2.
I just regret being a barber. It’s not lucrative esp bc you always owe taxes. I feel like I’ll be poor forever in this progression. Oh and no 401k or pension, or even insurance.
I had a client tell me yesterday that he “didn’t believe we can go into space” and “NASA is a money laundering business”.
I had to look this guy in the eye to make sure he wasn’t trolling me and it’s been one day and I’m still not sure… 😭
Also some other statements made:
“NASA was created by Nazi Germans”
“The moon rocks they brought back are petrified wood”
“Our satellites are held up by helium balloons or flown on planes”
“I don’t feel comfortable talking about aliens with someone I just met”
So what’s the craziest thing a clients told you?
i've started to experience hip & knee pain from standing all day. i'm starting at the gym next week and looking for a routine that will help to strengthen my body for work.
anyone have a gym routine built around barbering?
Just wondering what clippers these are she’s using? I thought detachable weren’t allowed there. She knows what she’s doing.
In the market for new clippers/trimmers. I've had Wahl, Andis trimmers (not a fan), & Babyliss FXONE (Lo-Pro & OG). Looking for something a little better, maybe with a longer battery life or life span in general. What are your favorites & why?
Hello all, I'm hoping someone can help me out. I recently opened a small barbershop with a friend of mine. There was a smalll loan needed to open the shop, which is through a family member and interest free, which is great. Our plan way to repay this with dividends once we got other barbers up and running in our shop.
We have determined how much is needed for us each to put into the shop bank account on a monthly basis to keep things afloat, I guess this is a type of rental fee. Obviously the goal is to one day not have to pay this for our own chairs as owners.
My question is, should we be paying ourselves through our company as employees? If so, I guess it would be commission based employees, correct? Otherwise we would pay ourselves as independent contractors? When we worked for a barbershop previously we were on a split 50/50 but got paid as employees, so it was easy. I guess I'm just wondering how our previous barbershop even paid us as employees the way they did.
Any helpful hints or pointers to sort this out would be great! Thanks!
What clipper guards do you all use
I’m thinking of getting one for home use. I’ve been using an $7 stainless budget one, The same I use at the shop to shave necks. Wondering if the Parker is better, more substantial and worth the $25. I like them heavy and beefy, seems like the Parker might be it. Thoughts? Thanks!
If you are in school currently & feel like you aren’t where you should be, or making the progress you should be take as many cuts as you can and soak up as much as you can & make as many mistakes as you can to get them out of your way trying things. Once you get into a shop though you will grow exponentially from the reps & hopefully veterans around you. I heard this a lot & it’s so true. Keep pushing!
There are really just 5-6 different haircuts existing in barbering. The only real difference between all of them (for example the difference between a pompadour and a slickback) is just the way you dry and style them. Ready for a debate
I’m looking to transition from a walk-in only barbershop, to implementing appointments. For some context, I can average 15-25+ haircuts a day, walk in only. A lot of these are seniors, and most of these haircuts are very simple. I personally take a lot more satisfaction in doing fades and more modern haircuts. There are unlicensed barbers who do these cuts charging more than us in our town, to the point they are actually our competition now. I think it makes since to switch to appointments. Here are my concerns though: -It’s going to piss a lot of people off since they’re going to go from just casually walking in to now having to make an appointment -I’m going to be a lot less busy, I can’t see me actually booking 20+ cuts in a day because my time slots would be longer just to give me padding -I used to do appointments in barber school and I’d say 50%+ no call no showed, or showed up late -This barbershop that’s opening up (same owner, new location) is going to be the only one in the city. And to start things off it will only be me in the shop, I’ll have no backup. Anybody have experience doing this transition? How has it gone? Any advice on avoiding no shows and late arrivals? Is it even worth the change?
basically i’m about to get into being a barber been doing research on everything but just want to ask what is yalls setup?
