Wetshaving - isn't all shaving wet? Somewhat. Wetshaving is how barbers used to get the ultrasmooth shave of legends. The secret isn't more blades and more canned goo but a single wicked edge. Shaving is 50+ days of a woman's life and 85+ for a man's.
Do you want to spend that time hating or enjoying what you are doing?
The better way is wetshaving; come and see what "they" didn't want you to know.
Tips, tricks, questions and bragging about shaving with straight, double edge or injector blade razors.

I find that if I wait a few days before using my double edge razor, my shave is way cleaner after two passes. However, if I shave the next day, I always nick myself and never get as close a shave, which seems quite counter-intuitive... Any tips?
Well, I got these from my dad a few weeks ago, and all I can say is that they are amazing. I have put these in my Rockwell 6C and have had incredible shaves. They are sharp, smooth, and last and last and last. Being English, we are often told that the steel we made was the best, but I always thought that was rubbish until I tried these. The annoying thing is that they stopped making them in 2000. I got nearly two weeks out of one blade, face shaving once a day. For comparison, I have tried Feathers, Nacets, Super Iridium, Personna Platinums, and several Gillette blades. These things beat them hands down. All I need now is a time machine to go back 20 plus years and pick some more up.
Pre-apologies for the length.
TL;DR - Shower cartridge shaver looking for advice on how to transition to DE.
Hey there! 20+ year shaver here. Been mostly on the Mach 3/Nivea shave gel train for that time (with a brief and painful stint in the Dollar Shave Club). I shave my face in the shower 2-3x’s a week. I like the shower, as it tends to save time and give me the least irritation. I’ve been DE curious for a while now and have a few questions before I dive in.
I’m new to the sub and have been going through some of the pinned info on where to start. It seems like some of the pinned stuff is over 10 years old. I’ve been in BIFL mode for a little while, so I’m curious if the recommended starter razors and blades have kept up quality in that time period. Was considering the Edwin Jagger DES89 or the Parker 24C with a blade sampler to start. How do we feel about those still?
I’m also curious if anyone shaves with DEs in the shower? I have to admit, I like the convenience and easy cleanup, so I’m wondering if it makes it too difficult to prep well enough for a DE with the shower running? Add on question to this, is it not advised to DE shave with canned shaving cream/gel? I see most posts recommending a brush and cream or soap from a tin, so wondering how important that is.
I’m sure I’ll have more questions, but we’ll start there. TIA for the help and patience as I learn.
After months of trial and error in search of a non-irritating BBS, I settled on Feather in a SuperSlant L3++OC for my face and 7 o’clock Green in a Henson AL 13 +++ for my neck.

Hello, I was wanting to see if anyone has heard of or tried Cult and king razor blades. They have some kind of neat design on them, and are under $10 for a box of 100. If so, how are they? Any idea who makes them or where they are made?
PLATINUM DE (DOUBLE EDGE) SAFETY RAZOR BLADES (Box of 100) - CULT+KING
I’ve tried soaking it in vinegar and other cleaners that help clean hard water/calcium stains.
Brush: Yaqi Tuxedo 26mm
Razor: Mühle R41
Blade: Gillette Platinum ( Russian )
Soap: B&M Mûir(e) Wood
Aftershave: D’Amaris Barber lotion
As the title says, what are your opinions of blades not needing to be the sharpest blades possible in order to be good?
I'll start.
Russian Gillette Platinum gives me such a comfortable shave like no blade I have ever tried, but it's not as sharp as Nacet or Feather so I need to do 3, sometimes 4 passes if I want a full BBS shave. Which, I usually don't mind since I always make enough time to shave without rushing.
Hey, I started wet shaving about 3 years ago with my trusty Rockwell 6c.
I really like it and remember finding recommendations for it here, thanks for that already.
Anyway, I think it is finally time to get something more shiny and the most logical option seems to be the Rockwell 6s. I was about to buy it when I started considering if it was the smartest choice given I barely use its plates, mostly sticking to 6 with Astra blades.
I like its weight, size could be a tad bit bigger and the materials are OK (the ones on the 6s looks quite good).
Which ones would you recommend? Max budget would be around €200, although 6s is retailing for €100 for Black Friday.
I live in the Netherlands so it is usually easy to get most brands here, although an European brand would be best I guess.
Thanks a ton.

This is my 4th shave with the Henson. Compared to my other razors (34C, 6S, Konsul), it feels the scrapiest/least smooth. I’ve only tried the Kai and a Bic blade in it so will keep experimenting. Not going to give up on it yet as I got a close shave, just not the most comfortable.

This is a truly unique head geometry. I was skeptical, but during the shaving process I noticed such nuances of geometry that seem to combine several razors in one, several possibilities in one. softness on the skin, the feel of the blade is quite soft, while the efficiency is noticeably higher than average. The angle of inclination effectively regulates the efficiency of shaving and the impact on the skin. The most sensitive areas on the neck feel good after shaving. In general, this is the End of the Game razor.
Like the title says, brand new to the DE shave game. After ample research I decided upon my toolshed to start myself off.

So after a few runs/days of figuring out how to lather the Cella properly, I think I mostly have it down... The Henson finally arrived via La Poste, and off I went.
Which blade to start with? Random lottery. The winner was gillette 7 o'clock super platinum (India).
Off we went, all lathered up and ready for my first stroke of the razor... I start north of my beard along the upper cheek, trying to keep the sculpting on point. First stroke, I have butterflies in my stomach almost, will it hurt? Will it feel good? Nicks?
Nothing. It glided like butter and I'm thinking "Ya, I got the angle all wrong, I didn't cut anything"... But au contraire, mon frere... One pass and it absolutely cut the hairs off with such ease I didn't even know it happened... I laughed in the mirror. On I went to complete cheek one, cheek 2, then the neck (all with the grain), lathered up again and did a 2nd pass across the grain.
What a shave. Ran the alum over my wet face, felt a nice breeze for 2-3 seconds, and checked around.. A SLIGHT redness on the balls of my cheeks, but no nicks, no bleeding, and probably the cleanest shave I've ever given myself. Cheek -ball redness gone after about 30min?
All in all, an amazing start to my journey, and looking forward to trying the rest of these blades out. I'm usually a 1 shave a week guy, but gonna start doing 2 so I can get the enjoyment quicker... I'm almost willing to shave today but don't want to start shredding my skin.
Anyways... Looking forward to hanging around, and for now... 7 o'clock SP gets a solid 9.5/10
Muhle r89 with Bolzano blade (1) coconut bowl homemade brush with Boti 22mm synthetic knot. Vitry soap, Floid genuine ASL ( it is very good ) and some brylcreem for the hair . Thirsty soap is Vitry and needs water the Bolzano blade is super smooth nearly feels dull but cleared a days growth in 2 passes was well impressed.
Razor: Fatip Piccolo OC.
Blade: Gillette Super Blue (4).
Brush: Omega 49.
Soap: Stirling Baker Street.
Aftershave: Mennen Skin Bracer.
Balm: La Toja.
The Piccolo OC mowed down 5.5 days of growth no problem. The Stirling Baker Street soap provided a nice fresh scent and a slick lather. A little redness on the neck but otherwise a nice, refreshing shave.
Enjoy your weekday shave.
Hi, I need some advice on my first DE razor but first a bit of a rant for context.
For 20 years now I've been shaving using cartridges, I've had two gilette handles over the years. I still remember how as a teenager I though "wow I got the handle almost for free, such a good deal!" then procided to use every cartridge for months because they're so expensive, even though I can get a servicable shave only the first 1-2 times using one. Servicable because I cant remember any cartridge (even with muh 5 blades) getting under my ching actually smooth even though it always hurts there after a shave. And dont get me started on having to unclog the blades 5-10 times per shaving session. I've had enough, my last cartridge is drawing its last breath and I refuse to buy more.
Add to that that I always struggle with seborea on my chin and it gets really bad if I grow out more than a little stubble, so a beard is out of the question. I get a strong suspicion that the reused blades in the cartridge contribute to the problem, no matter how much I wash them.
That being said, I decided to do what youtube was telling me for a decade and finally jump the fence. Currently I'm stuck between two models:
I almost pulled the trigger on the 6S last night but I still am not sure considering some of the things I've read on this subreddit. If anyone can help, I would be extremely grateful.

Still working on this soap.
I have recently decided to use pre shave oil for the skin protection and moisturising.
With the use, I can tell the difference between the shave with oil and without oil.
I just highly recommend using pre shave products before going into shaving.
Semogue 2015 Silvertip is very soft and not scratchy. Semogue has never got me down. Its products are just fantastically awesome.
That's all I got today. Have a good day mates!
Hey lovely people. This is a bit of a hard post for me to write, as it's both personal and challenging.
As a transgender woman, I am still at a stage where I have to shave, as laser treatment is not financially feasible for me at this time.
I recently started wet shaving after many years of using Gillette 5-blade cartridges that tore my face apart. I never knew how bad they were for my skin. Since beginning to wet shave, I've had no nicks or burn.
Currently, I have a Mühle R89 safety razor with Feather blades, and I'm going to start using a new boar brush from TroyCraft here in Australia.
My problem is with soap.
I've been using Taylor of Old Bond Street (two different ones), and while they smell okay, they don't feel great on my skin, and I don't get that slick glide I'm looking for.
I really want to try a tallow-based soap that smells incredible, but they're so hard to come by here in Australia, and the price point is also very high.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Also, is the Mühle R89 the best razor I could be using, or is something else more efficient?
I'd love to hear your thoughts. Sorry for the long ramble!
Anybody know when they typically start selling this again? Also, as far as Christmas themed scents, what do you guys think of it?
So I just had my second safety razor shave and it was pretty damn good. I only went with the grain and it was closer than my electric razor with next to no irritation (despite multiple passes). I had one question however. I learned that you should use 0 pressure or "less than the weight of the razor". Are they just saying to to prevent people from cutting themselves by applying too much pressure?
Because I think I took that too literally? I am using the correct angle (I tripple checked), but it is not cutting very well. Sure, it cuts but it takes a few passes to get it all. I am using a merkur 34c with bic chrome platinums. I am scarred to apply just a little pressure, but I THINK that is what I should do? So right now if there is any curve in my face where the blade cant contact all of the skin it will skip parts. I fell like a tiny bit of pressure should make it more flat against the skin and cut more evenly?
Let me know if my chain of thought is making any sense or not. Thanks in advance!
