Wetshaving - isn't all shaving wet? Somewhat. Wetshaving is how barbers used to get the ultrasmooth shave of legends. The secret isn't more blades and more canned goo but a single wicked edge. Shaving is 50+ days of a woman's life and 85+ for a man's.
Do you want to spend that time hating or enjoying what you are doing?
The better way is wetshaving; come and see what "they" didn't want you to know.
Tips, tricks, questions and bragging about shaving with straight, double edge or injector blade razors.
New? Curious? Have questions? Go nuts - the only thing we don't do in here is shut up about shaving!!!

Greetings,
Every time I shave I always get the same results irritation, razor burns, nicks/cuts. I started DE wet shaving 5 years, so meaning I have 5 years of DE wet shaving under my belt and should have figured all out by now. Every since, I started I tried multiple blades, soaps/creams, razors and brushes and I still can't figure what setting to use for my tools. I have coarse beard with sensitive skin, especially in my neck area.
In my disposal I have:
Razors: Rockwell 6c and Henson AL-13
Blades: Bic Chrome Platinum, Gillette 7 O'clock Super Platinum, Gillette 7'ocklock Sharpedge and Treet.
Brush: TRC- 24mm synthetic brush
Soap: Proraso Coarse beard and Stirlings unscented beeswax
I don't know which blade plate to use on my Rockwell 6c, even though I tried every blade except for #6 and what blade to pair it. Or give Henson another try?
Thanks
I love Clubman Pinaud (pronounced Pee-Know...French) aftershaves. I am especially fond of the Musk, the Bay Rum, and Whiskey Woods. There are more quality items on the market, especially proper Bay Rum Aftershaves that steep actual Pimenta Racemosa leaves. However, there is something so nostalgic and charming about Clubman.
But, hear me now. Decanting into a glass bottle is so important for all Clubman products. Decant is just a fancy word for pour. I apologize if some of you know this already, but the word "decant" comes from the world of wine. To pour the wine into a glass carafe to let the wine breathe (the oxygen allows the flavor to "open up" a touch).
I recommend that all of you who use Clubman Pinaud aftershaves go to Michael's or wherever, buy yourself a small glass spray bottle or a mason jar. I've heard that some dudes even use Frank's Hot sauce or Tobasco glass bottles after they have finished and dish washed them. Any glass works. Pour it in there. In 3 days, watch Clubman become an even more amazing product. Some say it's even better after more time, but really after 2 weeks, it becomes what it is going to become, in my mind.
The glass bottles I use are darker spay bottles or darker bottles with a dropper (you know to keep it from light...like wine or olive oil).
I want to share this video about decanting Clubman Pinaud by a very fancy looking Englishman. The decanting part is like 20 min in, around Exhibit A.
That plastic really gives it an oddly metalic acrid smell. Happy shaves, friends!
After browsing here for a month or so I finally worked up enough courage to give it a shot. Zero nicks and zero irritation after. Turns out I was nervous to try it all for nothing. Just wanted to thank everyone for putting all of the info here in one place to help us newbies out!
I loved this soap when I first opened it last October. Used it every other day up until tonight. I have the aftershave too with the menthol added good stuff!
so long story short i’ve been shaving with a safety razor since i was 14, (i turn 20 in a week) but honestly didn’t enjoy it, and never had much facial hair to begin with. i recently actually got into treating my shaves as less of a chore and more of an enjoyment, i currently shave w the same van der hagen i started with when i was 14, i honestly find no issue with it and dont have any irritation after shaves just dryness, which i need to get an aftershave for (any recommendations?) i picked this razor up at a local resale store for $8 bc it was the cheapest and i thought it looked kinda cool, i was wondering if anyone had actual information on it (it has “gillette” imprinted on the back) and whether or not it is safe to try and shave with.
i just want to hear everyone’s stories or opinions on using different types of liquor as aftershave as an experiment or in a pinch
-Razor: Mühle R41 in rose gold
-Blade: Mühle razor blade (3rd use)
-Brush: Mühle nom pure badger shaving brush
-Aftershave: Alum + Rinse with cold water
Mug: a Mario mug to soak the brush
I used to view Speick as an "okay" cream. Great performer, but for me, it had a "meh" or a "boring, herbal" scent to it (don't get me wrong, it smells very unique). It also felt "weird" on my face. It has kind of a "cooling" effect, but not like a typical mentholated soap ( btw, I like mentholated soaps, I love Proraso green). And after reading the ingredients, there was no menthol. Although the scent was never a deal-breaker for me (a soap's scent is never a deal-breaker—it's the performance and whether it causes irritation that determine if I fully dislike a soap or cream), it wasn’t something I preferred. I usually go for "darker" scents, and for me, using a soap or cream with a scent I enjoy is what makes shaving so fun. Now, though, Speick is growing on me, and I'm starting to love it. I also disliked the scent of Arko when I first smelled it, but then I quickly grew to like it. Now, it's one of my favorite soaps, if not my favorite hahahah. It's amazing how personal tastes change !
How aggressive is this razor? I currently use a KCG razor and would like to replace it with a more aggressive razor. Would this type be a good choice?

I meant to order a minimum of a 5-flap of each kind, but the default quantity on the RBC website is different for different blades. I had no intention of singles..just makes it too much work. Plus, I need at least 5 blades if not 10 to do a fair trail of a blade.

I took a hiatus from shaving regularly the last few years and am starting to get back into it. Used to shave with a Mach 3 cartridge and barbasol canned foam but have found I can't get a close shave with it these days and get razor burn so I made the switch to a safety razor and proraso cream. I've been using a King C. Gillette and BIC blades. Tried Astras and the ones that came with the razor but had a lot of pulling with those. My current routine is to lather in a bowl, two passes WTG, and apply proraso green aftershave and alum before moisturizing. My skin is not particularly sensitive nor oily and my hair is dark but not super dense.
I'm having a few issues:
I get whiteheads all over my chin the next day without fail. I shave after a morning shower. I've started sterilizing the razor in rubbing alcohol, using new face towel each shave, and changing pillow cases frequently but that has made no difference.
I can't get a close shave and get some drag. When I shave WTG, it leaves stubble. I also feel like I get some resistance. I make sure to pull my skin taught and am trying to use a beard map but that hasn't helped. My old man taught me to shave XTG to get a close shave but that just gives me a major breakout by noon so I don't do it.
Is there something I'm doing wrong or missing with my routine? And should I try a different razor? I want a close, low irritation shave.

Why are the sides of the Astra blade numbered 1 through 4?
The soap is very good. Here are the scent notes from the website: Scent notes: Warmest Regards is a blend of Amber, Tonka, Oud, Rum, and Musk. I tend to like soaps that have tallow. Although, non-tallow soaps I have do a great job.
One benefit is that i will eventually buy a good SE so learning how to lather properly early on could be beneficial.
What do you think?
