Wetshaving - isn't all shaving wet? Somewhat. Wetshaving is how barbers used to get the ultrasmooth shave of legends. The secret isn't more blades and more canned goo but a single wicked edge. Shaving is 50+ days of a woman's life and 85+ for a man's.
Do you want to spend that time hating or enjoying what you are doing?
The better way is wetshaving; come and see what "they" didn't want you to know.
Tips, tricks, questions and bragging about shaving with straight, double edge or injector blade razors.
New? Curious? Have questions? Go nuts - the only thing we don't do in here is shut up about shaving!!!

Just ordered my Bayonetta Safety razor from Rasoigoodfellas as an upgrade to my King C Gillette. Lately I've been using it with 2 shims under the blade to increase the gap since I was not quite satisfied with the depth of the shave. I've read that the Bayonetta has a similar gap but a positive exposure od the blade, can anyone who already owns this razor spend a few words on it? Anyone able to compare it to the KCG by any chance?
I have a Mühle Vivo razor - tried different blades, the problem is still the same. I think the angle is good, the pressure strength is good it's just feels dull. I need to shave my neck 4-5 times and it's still far from perfect.
But when I loosen the head of the razor (so the blade is almost free, not pressured by the metal head) just 1 shave and it's almost perfect. So I usually do this method but a razor should not work like this. Then I can just use a single blade alone in my hand because the razor feels useless.
Why is this?

Hello everyone. My first post is here; please be kind to me about rules:) I have shaven with traditional wet shaving since my first shave. Unlike popular culture, my dad and i always have used brushes, soap, and de razors.
Brush: Semogue 1800 boar wristle, nearly 1 year old and used 100+shave Razor: King C. Gillette, DE Blade: Astra Superior Platinum, Green Soap: Arko Barber Soap
Like father, like son, this is one of my setups; see you next Sunday!
I would like a longer and thicker handle for my Rockwell 6S as I have very large hands. Where can I buy this? Preferably in Europe but not nessesarily.
Are you still experimenting with razors / blades / cremes etc?
I am new to this, but have an impression that the frugality part is non-existent as there is so much stuff to experiment with in search for marginal gains.

Hi. I would like to try a longer and thicker handle for my Rockwell 6S as I have very large hands. Does anyone know where I can find that, preferably in Europe?
First time using the Perma-Sharp Double Edge razor and it performed beyond my expectations, very easy BSS and no nicks or irritation whatsoever. I woke up this morning kinda grumpy but shave this good turned my day around.
Just got it, in original box and with the blades. Just need to desinfect it and try it out. Can't wait!
It's Sunday morning for me and so I was excited to shave my face. Today I tried to get a perfect BBS by going against the grain.
Here's what happened: I did the 1st pass along the grain, no cut or problems whatsoever.
On the 2nd pass, I went against the grain on my cheeks and it went smoothly. But when I started shaving on the chin, I used the same angle as my cheeks and then the blade cut me because it was completely perpendicular to my skin. This was also my first time going against the grain.
I don't have an alum block, I pressed the wound untill it only bled slightly, and then applied alcohol aftershave.
The cut was not that horrific, but it was significant as it bled a little more than ordinary cuts. After this cut I got distracted and couldn't finish the 2nd pass smoothly, and just ended the shave by going with the grain.
So after this I have a few questions. How long should I wait for the wound to heal before the next shave? What are some tips I can keep in my mind to avoid cutting myself again?
I've used Van Der Hagen shaving butter since I started shaving with a DE razor a few months ago. It is simple to use and works well. What's better for a close shave, a brush and shaving soap lather or shaving butter in a tube ?
Hey everyone, I’m looking to start shaving with a safety razor (always been a 3 or 5 blade cartridge shaver) and after some research have decided on a Timor safety razor.
I’ve tried looking for some places online to buy them but a good amount of the links seem untrustworthy. Since the products are made in Germany and I can’t find a proprietary website, is there somewhere where you guys recommend buying them?
Also if you have any other super-beginner safety razor recommendations then I’m happy to hear those as well, thanks.
Had to make an unexpected trip overseas with only cabin luggage so picked up an old Mach3 and a 3-pack replacement pack to fly with.
Used with my the same shaving gel and it is the same amount of work - same amount of wet application of gel/cream, more blades cutting but the additional blades barely do anything when they are clogged up (whereas with the safety you have a whole opposite side), rinsing the head is the same.
And with the safety razor blades one slash removes hair with ease, same if not faster than cartridge.
And then when I applied my usual moisturiser, burning on my skin from all the razor burn I have - a feeling I had forgotten after I switched to safety for 2 years.
Apart from the no-nick learning curve + you can't be on a plane with blades, I literally cannot think of any advantage of cartridges.
Hello, I've been using a DE safety razor for quite some time, and I'll never go back to cartridges. I've been shaving this way for close to a decade, and think I'd like to upgrade my setup / it makes for a good Christmas gift idea, since I am fortunate enough to just buy what I want throughout the year typically.
My handle: Van Der Hagen handle I got from target almost a decade ago for about 10$.
Would love to get something really nice in this category.
Soap/brush: honestly probably lacking the most here, I've gotten a few cheesy brush/soap combos that probably turned me off for the worse.
I've lately not used a brush and just stuck to some "higher end" squeezable creams/goos.
Would love a quality brush/dish/soap recommendation.
Blades: Feather. I tried a sample pack a long time ago, these were my favorite. Bought a thousand of them... I'm starting to run low.
From what I've read these are still considered very high quality but may not pair as well with a more "aggressive" handle. I do remember also liking Astra from the sample pack, but feather was a clear winner.
Not sure I want to upgrade/switch here, but I did notice there seems to be feather blades in both a red or a yellow packaging? Is there any difference. Pretty sure when I bought last time I only remember yellow.
Should I switch brand, even temporarily, if I get a more aggressive handle?
Budget:
middle-top tier I don't need/want ivory from a poached rhino, but I don't mind spending a pretty penny.
Okay guys, I've been lurking around here a month or so. Contributing where I can but I'm quickly learning how little I know. Asked for recommendations and I'm a little lost. What's an open comb? Straight bar? Advantages of each?
I know about blade gap and that larger gap means more agressive shave.
What about 3 pc vs twist to close razors what are the advantages/disadvantages?
Does / has anybody used coconut oil as as pre shave ? Experiences good or bad?
My first (and only) safety razor is an inexpensive Van der Hagen that I bought from Walmart. I absolutely LOVE it and will not go back to multi blade razors. My only question, do higher end safety razors truly make a difference? If so, can I please get some recommendations? Thank you!
i'm looking to get into straight razor shaving but my budget is pretty tight. from what i gathered u/RocTraitor used to sell a kit called "sight unseen" that ran for $50-70 and it included a shave ready razor, strop and so on. are there any similar deals these days? ideally i'd like to spend not much more than $100 total (razor, strop, brush, soap)
Hi,
i want to buy a more "definitive" DE Razor, at the moment i have a DE89 and a Gillette DE... but i want something that is more precise and more beautifull and with a better material.
What do you suggest?
P.S: i'm still a beginner, but i want only a better and good razor
Love my sterling Christmas balm, but I just wish it had the same staying power as B&M. I reached out to them about Taiga, but they said for the time being it’s not coming back. Can anyone recommend a similar balm? Also love the feel of B&M balms, more than sterling.
Had ordered my Rockwell 6s a few Wednesday ago when they had their sale. 2 days later Canadian postal workers went on strike. Unfortunately Rockwell ships Canada post here and my package was just stuck in this limbo.
I sent out an email wondering what can be done or if I got to wait it out. They responded by shipping me out another razor with a different shipping company. They didn’t have to do this, could have said sorry you wait. So massive shout out here. Excellent customer service, and care. Can not wait for my first 6s shave on Thursday. Proud that they are a Canadian company, and going above and beyond.
