Wetshaving - isn't all shaving wet? Kinda. Wetshaving is how barbers used to get the ultrasmooth shave of legends. The secret isn't more blades and more canned goo but a single wicked edge. Shaving is 50+ days of a woman's life and 85+ for a man's.
Do you want to spend that time hating or enjoying what you are doing?
The better way is wetshaving, come and see what "they" didn't want you to know.
Tips, tricks, questions and bragging about shaving with straight, double edge or injector blade razors.
New? Curious? Have questions? Go nuts - the only thing we don't do in here is shut up about shaving!!!

I don't understand how you guys angle these things if you cannot see the blade?
It was my first shave soap/cream when I started DE shaving 5 months ago. I spent a lot of time looking for good razors, blades, aftershave, etc. Taylor of old bond Street screwed up my learning curve. It made everything worse. I'm now mixing it with cremo and it's working better, but cremo by itself is best. I'm currently waiting on an order of arco, speick, and chiseled face.
Why it's terrible - It doesn't make your face slick. The one job a shave cream is supposed to do. It makes your face a bit sticky, just enough for you to think the problem is something else. Also, I've read on forums that the ingredients are not healthy. Combine these and you got a shave cream that makes get a lot of little microcuts from chattering then it puts poison in your skin. Maybe the worst part is that it's recommended so much that you start thinking the problem is you or your equipment.
What's good - It smells nice.
If your just starting, try something else. Trying to learn DE shaving with this stuff is like learning to ride a bike with square wheels.
And there was a metal rusty tube in it. Anyone know what kind of metal this is?
I want to try something a bit more efficient mainly for head shaving and I’ve narrowed my options to these two: The Game Changer 76 and The Goodfellas Smile Syntesi SS. I currently shave my head with R89 and though I get good results I feel like the razor could be more efficient so that I could get the shave done with fewer touch up strokes and maybe a little bit less redness. So I was thinking that slightly more positive blade exposure could do the trick and of course it’s always fun to try out new things. Does anyone have any first hand experience with both of these and can compare them against each other and maybe even compare them to R89? I’ve googled my ass off and can’t find a decent comparison between these two.
I've never bought a safety razor before but want to get into it. Henson attracts me as it sounds like it is just really easy and hard to cut yourself with. It's also really expensive, which is why I'm considering just getting the plow 2.0.
What should I do and is there maybe better alternatives at a cheaper or same price?
Lime was a bit of a let down. Cryogen was great! Le Grand Chypre is a classic. I can't wait to try them all!

After 13 straight 12+ hour days shaving at night had time for a great comfy shave. Had about 36 hours heavy coarse growth.
Been getting a bit irritated around mustache and chin.
Only did 1 pass WTG and then a second pass ATG except XTG / Touchup on said sensitive area. Surprisingly close and no irritation.
Face lathered used yesterday’s post to take care to properly build it.
Good reminder to slow down and go back to basics.
Couldn’t keep my favorites organized, so I made an elimination bracket. Might take me several years to get through this.
For this shave I used the Merkur 34C in combination with the Bolzano SuperInox. It's the second use for this blade.
A couple of days ago, I used the analogy of an Italian sportscar while describing the Bolzano blade combined with the Gillette Tech. Smooth when going WTG and XTG but as soon as I went ATG it turned in a dodgy old Fiat Panda.
I must say it's quite a different blade in the Merkur. It is smooth and rather efficient all the way. It was a very pleasant shave with a BBS result. Next to no alum and AS sting.
It will be interesting to see how the blade handles in the Laurel open comb.

Over the last couple years I've tried countless razors and methods of shaving and it always hurts so bad every time. I don't get razor bumps and I only cut myself on the rare occasion but it still feels like I'm carving off a layer of my skin. Electric razors are a bit better but it just feels like they're tearing my hair out instead and they're not smooth enough. I've even tried going to a few barbers to see if it was a skill issue but each time it still hurt. I really don't know what to do, my facial hair can't grow into an actual beard yet so I still have to shave at least for a few more years.

Has anyone tried using the Henson razors with other blades? For some reason when I was using them with the blades that came with the AL13 it worked amazing.
I now moved to a country that doesn't ship them and bought some Gillette ones and another brand and it just doesn't shave anywhere near as well. Any ideas?
Hello,
I’m considering buying a straight razor from a vendor online. I really like the razor except the round point. Is it possible to modify it to a French point? If so; how hard is it?

As I get older, I get more paranoid that I’m sprouting off-putting hair (from my nose and ears primarily). So I keep some touch up razors, electric trimmer, etc. to make last-minute checks in the visor mirror.
Also, the lockdown and isolation and full time work from home since then has made me very unaccustomed to regular human interactions. Before lockdown I shaved every morning and wore a suit to work. (Well, those don’t fit me any more.) But I don’t have that routine any more and I might forget something before going out.
As an introvert in the first place, I want to make sure I have the supplies necessary for a last minute check.
And as long as I have that stuff, I also keep with it some moustache and beard grooming stuff, in case I want to touch up.
Anyone else do this?
Can anyone recommend a starter strop? I’ve never stripped before. I’m looking for one with both leather and cotton-linen strips and has a clip that will let me attach to an existing fixture.
Thanks!
