Hey all,
First time poster, expecting my A/B license to arrive in a week or so (for reasons of target + hunting). Looking at getting a rifle that's good for long range but also double as a hunting rifle to handle up to pigs for my mother's property in NSW. Leaning towards the Tikka T3X Tac A1 in 6.5CM. (I'll be 90% target shooting, 10% hunting)
Anyways, I've been reading up on the requirements for a suppressor to add to the Tikka and best I can gauge is that I might be able to get one for hunting which would be handy for the range of pests that are about the property.
Does anyone know if there's extra hoops to jump through with applying for a suppressor for this purpose? Would I need to submit an ACT or a NSW prohibited weapons permit? Etc etc...
Note: I'm reading it as that there's a difference in what's classed as prohibited between the states. ACT - The suppressor itself is a prohibited weapon. NSW - The Suppressor + firearm it's attached to BOTH become prohibited weapons. This is starting to melt my brain with what I can actually apply for.
Have found an old Omark Sportco actioned what looks like converted to a bench rest rifle. Custom stock and has been barreled into 6.5x55 Swede. This thing has what I think the lightest trigger pull I have ever felt, definitely less than 1lb.
Has anyone used these and can shed some light on them, also how did they shoot? Thanks heaps!
Hi guys. I’m looking at getting a lithgow arms la101. I’ll be using it for hunting pests (rabbits, foxes) Just wondering is the 17hmr worth the more expensive round? Or better to get the cheaper 22lr rounds?
In Tas. Was with somebody who shot an animal they ran over and learned a lot about how a tool has great power, what with taking a life, and it's a great responsibility. The only reason it may be objectiIble is my having a mental illness that I basically had to agree to having (Because if I weren't diagnosed, they would cost $400 a months, he just said let's do it this way)
Given the latest news out of WA I thought I'd post what we're missing out on from countries that aren't America.
I’ve been a member of a gun club here for over 2 years. I completed all of the requirements and submitted my licence application via the post office about 3 weeks ago.
I’m yet to receive any notification of approval but I’m confused as to what will happen now? From what I can tell from the new laws coming into effect is that the main new restriction that will affect me is the storage safe?
If I receive approval before march 31, will I only have to comply with the old safe laws? What exactly are these alarm system requirement for handguns, anyone have any insight - https://www.wa.gov.au/media/97381/download?inline
Has anybody had real world experience with the Guide thermal scopes and monoculars?
What is a good straight pull shotgun ?
I know there is the Sulun Arms Tac 12. I know Sulun Arms is putting all of their effort into the Tacsoras/Ducsoras so not sure about this one.
Would prefer to pay for quality rather than get cheaper one but hey in this country, you take what you can get.
5+1 capacity.
Hi everyone. Is there a good bore guide specific for a Sauer 100 .223REM or do I need to get a generic one?
P.S. could you please hold off any comments that a bore guide is not needed. Thank you 🙏
Looking for a chassis for my REM700LA Clone build. MDT have some great products but an an ACC premier or elite involves an initial investment of around $2K or more plus accessories. The SCSA is less than half the price and Aussie made. Any one tried or got one and what was the prognosis?

Seriously why would it take more than a few seconds for an email to be sent to a shop in this day and age? I know this is all a slow process but jesus christ. Is anyone familiar with the usual time between your approval date for a PTA and the time the approval email is actual sent to the shop? It's been 2 days I really thought this final step would not drag out like this.
TIA
hey i'm new to all this.
So I submitted an original application at the PO about 5 weeks ago, I haven't heard anything yet.
How long should I be expecting to wait? Will I get an email, Ph call or letter?
Ive checked and it doesn't show on the licensing portal. I just dont want to wait months to find out they made a mistake, ect. Cheers
When it come to 8mm or 7.5 french i would assume it would be best to make your own due to the supply. But does anyone know if the ammo is sold here in aus preferably close to south east Queensland.
kestrel 5700x top model
Amazon sell price $900 (1450AUD) (they wont ship this model but will ship lower end ones )
Kestrel Australia price $2200
that's whopping $755 difference , considering its kestrel Australia they are importing their own product , surely the import cost and license is not that much , why do companies take so much advantage of Australian's hard earned money , ok Rant End .
Hi, my old chrony has suffered a shotgun wadd hit, and a near miss with a 30-30, plus the diffusers are broken. ~30 years old so can't complain. Whats the modern basic entry level chrony? And experiences or recommendations?
Cheers
I've only really been involved with the shooting sports off the farm for about a month. I got told that it can be a chore sometimes. I went to little river and these 2 blokes fully took my under their wing and I had a total blast.
I just wanted to keep the good vibes going and say I spoke to a bloke on Facebook about reloading. He just straight up said come to his place and he'll show me. He spent 5 hours going over everything with me. Drawing pictures, giving me links and videos to watch. He sent me on my way with his magnet speed chronograph to borrow so I could try different brands of ammo. I was a total stranger and he was just happy to help.
Maybe I'm just coming into the sport at the right time, but i'm not experiencing any of the negativity i've been warned about. The help i'm getting and the support is just awesome. I'm saving now for a kestrel and a garmin chronograph. I reckon i'll get into reloading but I need to be a better shooter first I reckon.
My Xmas present to me is going to be a bulk buy box of 308 match.
I'm looking for my first rifle, I've only shot 22lr and an air rifle before. I'm looking to get into hunting, not really target shooting. I've got a 30-06 PTA at the moment(on a friend's recommendation). However today at the shop they seemed to push me towards a .308win because it will be easier to learn on.
Once they realised I already had a permit for the 30-06 they started to hard sell the 06.
Any advice on a good first rifle to get into deer hunting? I'm about 100kg and not too worried about the recoil on the 06 but don't know what to expect.
TIA
Hi, Im looking into getting some pistols on a collectors permit. I know you can only shoot them on specific events, but it seems much 'easier' than going through the 1+ year process of a normal cat H licence.
Im a bit confused. when applying for cat H on my collectors lisence, it says I need to do a "firearms safety training course for pistols"
I have joined the SSAA sydney collectors club, and I know that st marys does offer pistol safety courses, but it seems as though it is the full 1 year training course for obtaining a cat H lisence, as well as the two day pistol safe handling course, which is what i assume i need to complete for my cat C collectors category.
my questions are:
is the course i need to do just the 2 day handling course?
can i do this course without having to pay for the entire 1 year cat C training program?
thanks in advance!
Still waiting on my Nightforce LPVO on back order as well as a SF Warcomp and Warden when my wallet recovers from Christmas 😂
I’ve tried to process an application tonight for my father however it’s not loading the page past the first acknowledgement, can anyone else see if it’s working for them?
Can you lose a gun licence in Australia if your living in a house with someone who gets caught doing illegal activities?
I’m interested in pig hunting just don’t know where to go but I hear there in the north region of Victoria but don’t know exactly and can you eat feral pigs as I’m interested as of the taste and for reference I am a qualified meat inspector so I know the cons of feral pig meat
