After a few months I have got my first rifle. The journey of hunting has started. I am pumped and don’t have many people to share this passion with or don’t understand how excited I am to finally have a rifle.
Just wanted to get a community consensus on if it's acceptable to use a muzzle break in an indoor range? Recently experienced someone next to me using a .308 with a Barrett style brake, didn't phase me much but seemed to ruffle a few feathers among the other range users.
I've been looking for a break action single shot air rifle, but I don't want one that need to be pumped up before every shot. I also don't want something that uses a Co2 canister. I know that some types exist that pump up as you open it, and I want to find something like that. Any ideas?
Hi, I would like to know how to apply for my probationary pistol license. I have done my safe handling course and have joined and club but I just don’t know how to go online and apply for the PPL. I try to go through service NSW/firearms portal but it says I need a PPL to apply for a pistol license. So how do I first get a PPL?
Thanks
Why do so many people here post and once they get their answers they delete?
Not talking about posts about potentially troublesome things (e.g.: someone asking if certain issues may risk their licence or licence application) as they don’t want it to stay in public. Fair enough.
Also not talking about posts that are ridiculous and get ridiculed in comments.
Talking about a pattern of people asking legitimate (and innocuous) questions, getting proper answers, and then deleting the posts.
Honestly, this is quite selfish, because these posts can help other people who may later on have the same question and will then see the post and answers, and it would save them the hassle of writing a new post to ask again.
Hi all hopefully I’ll be getting my first gun this week which I’ve already settled on a 223. But I already have my sights on the second one I’m looking at a cheap 22 mag mainly for rabbits and for the wife to learn to shoot a bit. Does anyone have any experience with the Rossi lever action and pump actions in the 22 mag. They look pretty good for the price and I’d like to put a cheap scope on it too if anyone has done that instead of the iron sights Thanks
I previously bought several Possum Hollow bore guides from Bench Rest Tactical before they ceased trading this year. Has another business in Australia picked up the range?
Hi all just wondering if I can store ammo in stock pouch along with the mags but have the bolt removed is this legal? In the car while I'm driving?
Does anyone have any experience with getting a wood/laminate stock cerakoted? Is this something most places that offer cerakote can do vs. coating a synthetic stock?
Thanks.
I made a post earlier in the week about my T2000 not cycling 1250fps 7.5 28gm loads. I have since tried the same but going 1350fps but still with no luck besides ~5 shots cycling with the hotter loads. So I have a few questions:
Hey all, was issued my licence this morning and can now put in a PTA. Is there a way to find my licence number before my card arrives?
Edit, in nsw
Hey all, is anyone else having errors trying to put in a PTA through the gunsafe nsw portal?
Hi all,
Just abit curious what everybody's gun collection is, in terms of how many firearms people usually have. Its obviously going to be different for everybody, I.e. what you need them for.
I have Cat A+B license for hunting, and I own a .22 and a 44 Magnum. Usually does me alright, but I'm thinking a 303 might do me well. So it just got me thinking how many other people usually have.
Has anyone got good things to say about the hardy hybrid, or really any system of multi-calibre firearms.
I like the idea of a modular system that might let me shoot a relatively cheap round like .223, but then hunt with a heavier calibre like .308 or 7mm rem mag.
I saw a guy at the range where he had a break action rifle which had the scope attached to each barrel.
I guess without this, and on the hardy hybrid you’d need to re zero every change.
Hey all.
I'm moving shortly to the ACT and will be going into a rental for 3-6 months before purchasing a place I can install my safe in. Unfortunately the safe I own isn't over 150kg, and I don't want to go through the hassle of dealing with installing it in a rental property.
Is anyone aware of a firearms storage location (1 rifle) in Canberra I could rent for approximately 3-6 months?
Cheers
Has anyone ordered any Briley shotgun chokes in Australia lately ? (Particularly in Melbourne)
I am after some Briley Browning Invector Plus Spectrum Black Oxide Choke - 12 Gauge chokes for trap. Have they been in stock or have you had to order them in ?
Is arranging for a rifle to undergo a bore scope inspection before committing to purchase it simply a matter of asking the dealer or seller if they are willing to send it at your expense to a gunsmith of your choosing?
I'm looking to confirm that there isn't anything else to consider regarding such a request.
I've got my second pta on cat a they said it's 28 days on each category for the first pta or has it changed?
I've been looking to buy a rifle for fox shooting but haven't found anything that I like in my local area. I go online and there are a few things I like, albeit it's not something I can see in person. I know a bit about the process when going thru online ads. I just want to know if there is anything to consider or look out for if I do go for something I find online.
I do not understand. It seems ridiculous to have the licence made out of paper and require you to carry it. It seems like a great way to get it damaged and destroyed slowly from wear and tear.
You’re telling me if I go hunting/camping/hiking on a large property I have to carry that bit of paper with me? Through rain, dust, mud etc?
In South Australia they issue you a plastic licence card the same as a drivers licence.
Not only that but theres also a plastic Firearm identification card that youre required to carry?
Whats the reasoning behind a paper licence? Why not just have one plastic card that acts as identification and licence?
Edit: I just found out that you have to keep the receipt from when you first apply for the licence. It has to be attached to the licence! Absolutely insane.
I don't know much about guns, but I have a school assignment that references a "Smith and Wesson 350." I've got to identify the offence and am trying to find out if this gun is banned in WA? If it's banned then I guess using it would mean the person is not licensed to?
Hey guys,
After a long haul of applying and waiting, I've finally received my firearms license.
I'm now in the market for my first firearm. I'm looking for a .22, just to learn the basics and ease myself into the sport/hunting.
However, as the title suggests I can be a very pedantic purchaser. Now I'm NEVER planning to sell any firearm I purchase (I only plan to purchase a few in my lifetime). Maybe I will sell/buy more in the future, maybe I won't, but the plan is to make a happy purchase and be done with it,
So in regards to keeping a lifelong .22, I need it to be reliable and have longevity.
What I'm looking for in a .22 is:
I'm currently fixated on the 'CZ 457 Premium'. The store mentioned although the "457" indicates a magnum round (even the one I was holding was chambered for magnum), I can get it in .22lr I believe.
What do you guys recommend? Is my current choice superb for my needs/wants? Any other suggestions out there? Price is not so much of an issue as instead of spending $700 for a first gun then switching to another $700 gun to take it's place, I would prefer to just spend the total $1400 with a firearm that I'm happy with and stick with it.
Changed out a bunch of gear on this recently, hitting the state forest late Nov. for a bit of hiking and hopeful freezer filling.
