Hey everybody,
It seems like we've got more than enough folks together for a book-club! We'll be starting our read on Jan 1st, with our first thread on Jan 15th at 5pm EST; subsequent threads will be on every other Wednesday.
Here's the schedule--let me know if the pacing is too fast or slow. As opposed to the previous chapter-by-chapter reads, we'll be taking this one in chunks.
Pp. 1-85 (Prologue--Bran II)
Pp. 86-159 (Tyrion I--Eddard III)
Pp. 160-236 (Bran III--Daenerys III)
Pp. 237-323 (Bran IV--Eddard VII)
Pp. 324-409 (Tyrion IV--Bran V)
Pp. 410-479 (Tyrion V--Sansa III)
Pp. 480-567 (Eddard XII--John VII)
Pp. 568-637 (Bran VI--Eddard XV)
Pp. 638-728 (Catelyn IX--Arya V)
Pp. 729–End (Bran VII--Daenerys X)
***Page numbers are based off of the 2011 mass-market paper-back edition; they may vary between editions. I'll try to be specific about the intended chapters in each thread.
Other stuff:
The Jimmy Neutron award: the top-voted comment of each thread will be featured in the subsequent thread for further analysis by mmmmhmmmm the high council.
Quote of the week: submit your favorite quotes [in quotation marks] and your analysis in the bi-weekly threads: the top-voted quote will be siimlarly featured in the subsequent thread.
SPOILERS: these threads will inhabit the nebulous spoiler-zone. It's like the Shadow-Realm, but worse in every way!
Moderation: I have no concept of ethics, but still--try to kep it civil.
I will judge you; we will all judge you.
The yawning abyss: try not to whinge about the show too much.
Exclamation points and semicolons: they're probably going to be over-used.
Hey everybody! After two long years, it's time to revive this subreddit.
With the contentious HotD in hiatus until 2026, I'm hoping to take us back to the indefinite lore of early ASoIaF: starting this New Year, there will be a read-along/discussion of A Game of Thrones.
This discussion will be split into ten bi-weekly segments (~80 pages each), with the first thread on January 14th, 2025.
If you're interested, please drop some interaction with this post.
I first joined this subreddit over 10 years ago, for a read through of the main series, assuming I would eventually leave it behind, in order to finish before Winds of Winter was released...
Oops.
Anyways, we're done with our Fire & Blood reread, and despite a few spots where I flipped ahead to see how many pages left in the chapter, I did enjoy it much more than expected.
There are no current plans for another cycle, so please anyone interested in such things post your thoughts here; I've gotten a few messages privately already.
Likewise, anyone who is already doing or planning a group readthrough, let it be known, and this space can be used to facilitate the discussion, and reach others who may be interested as well.
Cycle #4.5 (F&B), Discussion #23: The Lysene Spring and the End of Regency
Well, this brings us to the end.
House of the Dragon is well underway, and I'm enjoying it more than expected, actually. The reread definitely helped me know the story better, and puts the show in context. The 'dream' bit completely changes Rhaenyra's potential motivation, so really makes it a different story. But that still fits in with the historical account we get in F&B.
I read more of F&B than I expected, and I'll finish too, since I'm so close.
Please keep reading and posting!

Within the thread here, any suggestions for how to run it? I'm imagining we'll start in a week or so, and pace it out to end by late August, giving three months. Sounds reasonable?
I count 706 pages over 23 chapters, about 8 pages per day. For me, sounds a lot actually, given the material! Let me know what you think please.
EDIT: For all our South American, Southern African, Aussie, and Kiwi friends... I'm sorry I forgot you. You are loved and appreciated. Happy Winter!
