I Made 3D Printable Order & Power Tokens

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6833239

I saw that another user made them a few years ago, and I wanted to make some for free.

They are basic tokens that are the same size as the cardboard game tokens. They don't have the house logos, but you can use a different filament colour to differentiate the houses.

Enjoy!

Dance of the Dragons Scenario, aka HBO's House of The Dragon

If you have ever wanted to play this game set in the Targaryen civil war as depicted in the HBO show House of the Dragon, then this scenario (variant) is for you! This is a 4/6/8 player game that uses the mission card system of the expansion A Feast For Crows + the Vassal system of the expansion Mother Of Dragons + a new Alliance Track [and new Dragons!]. The result is gameplay that incentivizes players to form and break alliances with the Green and the Black warring Targaryens as all players compete to win the Iron Throne.

https://preview.redd.it/qsg46tgg5h1e1.png?width=1914&format=png&auto=webp&s=5778a1651da568e9cff7e2e2241cc986247aa919

This scenario is for you if any of the following apply:

  1. Your group has played the base game many times and want to mix it up;
  2. You love the mission-based system from the expansion AFFC and want to play that system with more than 4 players.
  3. You LOVE the story and theme of the Targaryen civil war (from the HBO show and the novel Fire & Blood) and want a board game to play out that epic story.

TO PLAY:

1. Folder has everything you need to play (for FREE): a Rulebook and the new cards that you need to print for the new houses and objectives. Besides printing these cards, you can play this scenario if you have the base-game and the expansion MOD as the pieces from those games are 'repurposed' for this scenario.

https://preview.redd.it/6gu4q8xh5h1e1.png?width=1844&format=png&auto=webp&s=f3c4149b290b1363c3939a73c2eae3953b539ebd

  1. OVERVIEW: This game adopts the Objective Card scoring system of the expansion AFFC such that to win the game a player must be the first to score 7 Victory Points, earned by completing Objective Cards. This game also adopts the Vassal system from the expansion MOD such that in games with fewer than eight players, the houses no one is playing as are neutral vassal houses that are controlled by active players. The “new system” introduced is an Alliance Track that records the extent to which the six great houses are aligned with the Greens or the Blacks, as well as other houses currently in either alliance. Alliances allow players to leverage the assets of other houses in that alliance, sharing control of an area, of large armies, of allies' combined Supply, etc. The Rulebook has all the details.

  2. Dragons are a 'new' unit that has combat strength of 3, can move 3 spaces, are mustered at a value of 2, can reside on Land or Sea, add +1 combat strength to any House Card labeled as a 'Dragonrider' and of course can only be mustered by the two Targaryen players - but used by any player allied with either Targaryen.

ENJOY your time in 'ol Westeros and please leave feedback below!

War of Five Kings Scenario PnP

Saw a version of this 11 player scenario on Etsy with metal and wooden pieces. I didn’t want to buy it without testing it out first with my gaming group, since it is $450. Does anyone know if there is a print-and-play version that we can try before buying? I haven’t been able to find any references to it outside of one Etsy shop.

Marriage Pact house rule

Been wanting to try some homebrew content but I don't want to change the whole game. Someone in my group introduced the idea of marriage pacts which is so pivotal in the shows/books we wanted a version of it in our game for alliances. All we have so far is that you can trade house cards essentially marrying off that card to that house and you have to trade cards of equal strength and you then won't be able to attack, raid, etc. that house for the an amount of turns equal to the strength on the house card. Has anyone tried anything like this and how did affect/change your game if you've done anything similar

Selling Game of Thrones: The Board Game with expansion & Deluxe Gamemat

Hi all - I'm looking to sell The Game of Thrones: The Board Game Second Edition (barely used), with the Mother of Dragons Expansion (completely new and unused) and the Deluxe neoprene Gamemat (completely new and unused) for $175 Canadian.

All game pieces are accounted for and included, along with the original board maps for the original game and expansion (the deluxe map combines them into one large map). Many cards are sleeved for extra protection.

The game is being sold because it was unused and taking up space. If required, it will be the buyer's responsibility to cover the shipping (I am in Toronto, Canada). Send a DM if you're interested!

More Thematic Play

I've been playing this amazing game regularly with my group. We just got MoD and are loving it. I have gotten some dollar store goblets and a crown for whoever sits on the iron throne to make it feel more thematic. We also play the soundtracks while playing for the extra flair. Does anyone have any more ideas on things we can do for more thematic play. We've thought about getting a stuffed raven and a sword for the holders of the valyrian blade and raven.

Fortification icon question

This has probably been asked before, but I can't find an answer.

There was some discussion last time we played about the way in which fortification icons work; some players seem to think instead of simply negating a sword icon, it PROTECTS a unit from being killed.

For example in a combat where the defender has two units, and an attacker card with 3 swords and a defender card with 2 fortifications is played, are both units protected? Or does one still die anyway because only two of the three swords are negated?

Thanks.

Dance of the Dragons Scenario [WIP] set in the world of Fire & Blood (HBO's House of The Dragon)

I have **nearly finished** creating a variant set in the Targaryen civil war known as Dance of the Dragons, from the novel Fire & Blood and the HBO tv-show House of the Dragon.

Sharing for maximum feedback, so can finetune before 'finalizing' shortly and sharing the ready-to-play game for free and open access. Also shared on BGG: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3374174/dance-of-the-dragons-variant-wip-set-in-the-world

How it Works:
A 4/6/8 players mission card system of A Feast For Crows expansion + the Vassal system of the Mother Of Dragons expansion + a new Alliance Track [and new Dragons!] that incentivizes players to form and break alliances with the Greens and the Blacks as all players compete to be the first to complete their mission cards.

More Details!

1. Folder with the Rulebook [WIP] and new thematic House Cards for all 8 houses + Vassals.
Here are a selection of the House Cards (also in the folder):

https://preview.redd.it/azih1qowp5rd1.png?width=1856&format=png&auto=webp&s=22cd010f1391f83b9d9ed3f07d56ec61f6c1f445

  1. TO PLAY: The game ONLY requires printing the new cards and owning the base game and MOD expansion. There is no need to "print" order tokens for the new houses (eg Tully) since can sub-in the brown Martell pieces for Tully and the blue MOD-Arryn pieces for Velaryon etc.

  2. Rulebook shared above has more details.

  3. Finally, dragons are a 'new' unit that has combat strength of 3, can move 3 spaces, are mustered at a value of 2, can reside on Land or Sea, if defeated always retreat to Kings Landing or Dragonstone, add +1 combat strength to any House Card labeled as a 'Dragonrider' and of course can only be mustered by the two Targaryen players - but used by a player allied with either Targaryen player.

Feedback is most welcome!

Best vassals to choose when playing 5-player Mother of Dragons, potentially without Targaryen?

We had a few dropouts for our GoT session today, so I’m wondering what the best approach is for 5 players with MoD. It seems like the best options are:

  1. Play with Targaryen and therefore 3 vassals—maybe Stark, Tyrell, and Martell?

  2. Play without Targaryen / Essos, have 2 vassals: Stark and Martell?

  3. Play without Arryn, Targaryen / Essos, have 1 vassal?

We’d still use the Iron Bank for sure—if that plays any factor in your experience of who the vassals should be, feel free to share your insight :)

Balance/custom rules recommendations

I recently got the game and my group consists of 5 people, so we'll always play at most the standard 5-player game. The issue is a friend of mine really loves Martell (yes, she's a girl, yes she likes them for the reason you are thinking) and Martell is the 6th house in the order. How would you go about including them? Which house would have to go out?

* Starks can't go, they are too important

* Lannisters are too important as well

* Greyjoys keep Lannisters in check

* Baratheons, maybe, but that really hurts the Greyjoys and benefits Martell and Stark

* Possibly take out the Tyrells, put all the local garrisons plus an extra footman?

* Really unorthodox, but make a hybrid Lannister-Tyrell, mixing house cards and choosing a new starting area

Mother of dragons Expansion without Targaryen?

I've been playing the Vase Game with my Friends a couple of Times, and i've now decided to get the MOD Expansion.

Since new people Well be joining us i figured that perhabs IT would be best to Play without Targaryen, which is actually also written in the rule book. Or at least that IT is possible. Now If that is the Case, do you add the map of essos or Not? Since those castles can be easily taken.

Has anyone ever Played Like this and could offer me some advice on If this is balanced or Not

Fixed strategy Targaryen?

I will be playing an 8 player game in 2 weeks and i got dealt house Targaryen. I’m pretty competitive and want to prepare sufficiently. Is there a solved strategy for the first 2/3 turns that i should always take, and in general what is the deeper strategy of my house. I know the arryn and martell players are quite decent, so i wont have an easy way in westeros. Thanks

Mod/DoD mix

Hi everyone, just wanted to know if there was a way to play a dance with dragons with the Arryns and the Targaryens? Always wanted to try that variant, but was concerned about balancing out all eight houses. Thank you in advance!

Challenge: Capture All Port Cities

I'm here to tell the tale of capturing all Port Cities while playing AGOT Board Game with hard AIs, playing on mobile.

When you play this game with Hard AIs, it doesn't take long to realize the AIs are not so great. They make suboptimal decisions and you can collect the achievements pretty quickly.

Soon, I found myself attempting more difficult challenges. Win by round 3 was pretty difficult, but house Tyrell is good for flooding the board quickly. Capturing all islands is fun too. Capturing all capitals was a step up in challenge, but...

My holy Grail challenge for the last six months has been to try and capture all Port Cities. With 8 cities, you really have to plan.

I finally was able to achieve this challenge with Greyjoy, as you need need need to keep constant momentum up.

This whole win condition has a lot of luck involved, because you need musters and votes early to move get those +1 matches asap.

Game plan:

  1. Capture Lanisport & Winterfell asap. You need to wipe out Lannister quick. Once Winterfell falls, stark can meander around the Eyrie. We don't want to hold Seagard or Riverrun long term, so don't leave behind control token when exiting.
  2. Capture White harbor and try to muster two ships for Narrow Sea & Shipwreck Bay.
  3. Migrate Army from Lanisport South to prepare for invasion by sea.
  4. Gain control of the seas so you can fleet from White harbor to Iron islands. Capture Dragonstone & Sunspear. Land forces in Three Towers. Three Towers is important as you can grab multiple ports from this site as final win condition.
  5. Capture the throne. You need to move first to pull of guarantee victory.
  6. Clear out Storms End or White Harbor. Make sure a turn ends with at least of these harbors clear.
  7. March+1 on Three Towers. Capture Old Town and one of the harbor cities you left vacant same time. This will secure you the 8 port win condition.

I got super lucky. Tyrell blocked Lannister retreat when I took Lanisport, so they got wiped off the map turn 2. Stark never captured Seagard, even though I vacated Riverrun and Seagard turn 7. I ended up capturing 10 cities, including all 8 ports.

I feel so accomplished and if anyone has an interesting challenge, let me know.

Cersei Rule clarification

I just tried out the board game online variant after having played the game a few times before in real life. I attacked lannister and lost the battle. Lannister played cersei and removed my attack order. Afterwards my attacking units just were removed? Is it because the game can't track from where they attacked since the order was removed and so they can't retreat? Or is this something different?

Lanni boy buff/Greyjoys nerf

Hello, as the title suggests I'm looking for the best buff for Lanni or as an alternative, a nerf for gj. This is mainly through an issue that arises when me and my friends randomise houses and the player who gets Lanni is wiped two rounds in.

I haven't come up with anything for gj but for Lanni I was thinking an extra footman in lannisport or switching Jaime Lannister for the adwd decks illyn Payne? Or switching cersei for qyburn Just to give some more power and versatility.

Would love to hear how some of you guys deal with this as for the moment it's mainly that I play Lanni boys, which I'm not opposed to as they are my favourite but some variation is definitely needed!

Is the digital version worth it?

Me and a group of friends already play the board game and we are considering trying the digital version. Is it any good or should we stay to the regular game?

One more question: is it cross-platform? Steam users can play against mobile users?

House rule: Alliences

I've Played 3-4 rounds of the Game (2nd edition, No expansions) with my Friends. We thought that the Game was a Bit Static Till round 4/5 and barely any Player lend Support to another (with the token). Be that as it May, it could be that that is Just Duo to the Playstyle of Out group.

One idea i came Up with, in Order to make for a more dynamic Game, are "Alliences". I'll try my best to explain my Idea, and i'd Love to hear from you If you think this is balanced or Just utter bs.

Whenever you use a march Order to Go into a different province that has Units of a different House, you can Join forces If both Players agree to Not fight. The Player originaly owning the province has to pay 1 Power (placed on the map) in Order to signify that the province is still nominally under His Control. Both Players would then Play Tokens in the Same province only for their troops. They cant Attack together (as they Attack in a different Order) but one could Attack and the other could Support for instance.

As for supply: i have two ideas. Either the Player that owns the province has to fully supply the total Army. So If he has 2 Units and another Player moves to this province with 1 unit with His permission, He has to supply an Army Worth 3 Units. Or the other Option would be that both Players armies would be treated as different armies, so each has to provide supply for their own Army. (Since the later rule would mean that huge armies could be fielded in a single province i'd prefer the First rule. But since they cant Attack together it's Balanced?).

In typical GOT Fashion, backstabbing would have to be included.

For instance If the stark Player Marches into a province of the baratheon Player. He First hast to declare that He wants to do it Peacefully (both Players can discuss this "allience" beforehand). After this the Baratheon Player can Accept it, or ambush the unsuspecting northerners. If this is the Case, the Starks would Attack the province normally, but the baratheons would receive +1 strength and one sword Icon.

If both Players already share a province, and one of the Players plays a Marching Order, this could be used to Attack the other Player in this province. They would receive the bonuses as above when ambushing.

If the baratheon Player instead excepted the Starks into their province the following Szenario might Play Out. The stark Player might use a Marching Order to Strike deeper into baratheon territory in a betreyal. If this is the Case No bonuses would be received and If they lose the Battle and cant Retreat they would be killed.

After writing all this i've noticed that there are a Lot of possible Szenarios one hast to Take into Account and make Rules for beforehand, so yeah thats probably Not to good, but still what do you think, do you have any suggestions/ critisim?

Best option for 4 players

Playing a four player game this weekend. Three players have never played before.

What do you think would be the best setup for this? AFFC or MoD?

Making a war table and looking for design ideas.

I'm a woodworker and I love this game. I want to challenge myself by making a war table that you can play on similar to the ones used in the shows but not quite to scale. I haven't thought through all the features that the table has that will help with the game and would love any input to what might make some good additions. Currently I'm thinking ill keep it thin(1.5"-2") with detachable base so you can take it apart and hang the top like an art piece. The only other thought I have is to make cubbies built into the base for pieces to fit in. I don't know exactly how to integrate those yet. If any of you have some insights or any ideas that you might add to this table if it was yours I'd love to hear them.
