Zines can be anything from extravagant, artful productions to handmade, photocopied mini-magazines. Anyone can make one, anyone can acquire one. This is a subreddit for all Zine related discussion!

Alone in the Library is a solo journaling game zine where, after you close the library for the night, you dive into the pages of any book you can find! As you do, you explore different scenes, interacting with the characters and events in the books.
These are books you make up on your own, using randomly selected scenes from the game, but you can feel free to open an actual book and explore it too!
What lessons will you learn from your journeys? Who, or what, will you miss? Or are you happy to escape with your life to a far more comfortable, stable world?

You can get the digital files in printable zine format (8-page standard zine, a single piece of paper) and in a digitally-readable PDF for $3, or have it mailed to you physically here in the US for $5. There are also 46 community (free) copies left!
OR you can get it and 16 other digital games and zines by becoming a Gamer member of our Patreon FOR FREE before December 9th! No payment info is required, and you'll also get everything we release on Itch while you're a member 🥳 You can also check out the list of games and zines you get for joining, including a total of 9 digital zines!
Angel made this game, not me, so I can honestly say that I am SO PROUD of her for it. I think it's worth every cent of the $3, she did an amazing job with the formatting and making it a sensory experience while allowing players to interpret the prompts. This is easily one of the best things we've ever released!!! 🙌
Have an amazing weekend! 🙋♀️
I've been thinking about using itch.io to distribute digital zines. Is it the best platform to do so? I was only going to monetise them with an honesty box system.
I've mostly been helping a friend with her free zine project and we're looking for advice! We've been paying out of pocket to print zines of submitted local art/writing/woodcuts/prints/comics etc. The content is hyperlocal and it's meant to be that way, and we distribute them for free at local shops, the library, cafes. We've had three issues, and really good feedback. Paying to print is definitely not sustainable, especially if we want to print in colour, but we don't want to start charging money for it. The whole point is to make art accessible to everyone. There seems to be an appetite from the community to donate to the project (there are also people from here who don't live here who would definitely want a copy), but we're not sure the best way to harness that. We were thinking of starting a Patreon, and offer posters of the cover/mailed zine/merch etc for the higher tiers. However, we don't want this to become a job, and even though we've been mostly doing it bimonthly we can't commit to a specific schedule. Would that mean Patreon isn't the best platform for us? And if it isn't, do you have any advice for how to go about funding the zine just enough to be able to keep making it? Everyone involved is donating their time because we think it's worthwhile and fun.
I should note we did file for a local arts grant and are still waiting to hear back. My idea is to get enough money to buy the equipment to print it ourselves! But then we'd still need to raise cash for paper/toner. Any advice is appreciated!
Hey! I'm new to the Zine community but passionate in bringing something into life with my analog photography crew as part of our art expression. I was wondering if you could tell me more about the process of creating a Zine, especially when the creators are multiple people? How do you decide what comes in, who curates the content etc? Thanks!
I’ve found that sharing bracelets is a great way to meet people :)
I first started to publish my comic "Le French Ninja - A True Story" in my zine DIE NOW & WORRY LATER , and now I just self-published it as collected comic :
Paris in the nineties, as I was playing the street with my neighbor a mysterious dude approached us and asked us the question every boy dreams of being asked :
"Do you guys wanna become ninjas ?"
Or course we said YES ! The comic is about the wacky training, the ninja equipment and also a bit about the Paris of that era. It was self-published monthly in a Parisian newspaper, you can find all the info, and order a copy (15€ + shipping), on my website :
I don't know how to draw, but I try
This page is so inspirational. So many fantastic minds out there! Trying to make a first edition of a zine for a clothing brand I'm working for. Any tips in terms of manufacturing (they'll come free with every purchase so will have a fair few copies) and all-round zine tricks and etiquette (if any)?
Thank you!
Hi, I'm one of the creators of Leaflet, a collaborative doc/publishing tool, and I wanted to share that we're hosting Zine Week this week to experiment with making digital zines!
Leaflet is a simple app where you can make rich text docs with links and images, add nested pages that open side by side, and even use visual canvases for more freeform layouts. Also super easy to share & create things with no account needed.
Just kicked this off yesterday (forgot to post here earlier!) but going all week; we'll have a coworking chat tmrw (Weds) and a show and tell Friday. Async participation also very welcome, if you want to make something & share the link with us later.
Right now I'm working on a couple ideas, a zine inspired by my first year of parenthood, and one collecting reading and personal library exercises. A few others are working on some fun ideas too!
Would love to have you join, very casual and totally free. Details + RSVP link here.
And if you'd like to invite friends to make something…I'm excited to potentially see some collaborative publishing experiments :)
Hey All! I am getting https://okprisonbooks.com/ up and running after a hiatus. I am almost done packing up a big batch of books to take to Mabel Bassett in Oklahoma. Several women want books that are about crafting, drawing, journal prompts, tarot, dreams. or astrology and I don't have any books to fit the bill on those. I do have books for everyone since they send a list of the genres of books they like, but if I can I try to get a mix for them. I am sending each person three books and a composition notebook.
If anyone has made a zine made that can be printed out on a letter-size printer on any of those or related topics I'd love if you would DM me pdfs for me to print and send if you have something on these topics you don't mind me printing/sharing with a few women. One of the things I really love is that people will trade their books with others so your kindness will shared by many.
So I'm in charge of an art club at my community center, and I want to do a workshop on zines! I'm going to touch on the history and how to make a bunch of different kinds, and I was wondering if anyone was willing to donate some zines as examples! The club is for teens and adults, and the zines will stay with the club as a resource members can access/reference. I'm also happy to trade some I've made if you'd like. Already made or printable files are both fine 💚
Hi! Patreon started allowing gifting memberships, and to show our appreciation we're giving away a month of our Gamer-tier. This membership gets you digital keys for all of our (analog/tabletop/TTRPG) games and zines on Itch.io as we release them on Itch, plus 15 of our most recent ones. Of those 15, 7 are digital zines with printable files :D
You can get it here --> https://www.patreon.com/BethAndAngelMakeGames/redeem/D50A2
You DO have to have a Patreon account (or make one), but NO PAYMENT INFO IS REQUIRED. If you already have payment info linked to your Patreon account, it's super easy (a single checkmark) to make sure there's never a payment.
We'd love it if you join and check out our work, even if you never plan to pay anything. We genuinely care far more about getting more people to check out our work than anything else.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday season, or at least that the cold doesn't freeze you 😅🧡🥶
I used to release fanzine regularly, had made 16 issues from 2005-2019. But since the pandemic, I haven't done anything on that scale zine-wise. I've released a couple mini-zines here and there, but since the start of this year, I've been trying to regain some of that enthusiasm and make another full zine issue again (and maybe more along the way...). So this is (sort of) a plea for help...
If anyone in here have digital copies of their zine they can send my way to hopefully read and review, please drop me a message.
If you're a zine maker and have been regularly releasing a zine before and after the pandemic, I want to talk to you and make a little interview.
If you're in a band or can recommend a band I should check out, please do so and it will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a whole lot. Hope to hear from all of you. :)
Hey I'm currently working on my first zine. It's a writing project - half zine/half literary magazine about the people's relationship with the internet and technology at large.
Does anyone know of any similar zines they'd recommend for inspiration? Also any advice on getting starting and how to make this would be appreciated lol
