I recently bought 2 x Numark TT1510 and a Numark M101 mixer.
After plugging everything in, I’m getting the dreaded ground loop.
The turntables and mixer are grounded. I’ve cleaned the cartridge connectors, changed the extension cable that everything is plugged into, made sure all the connections in the cartridges are correct, plugged everything in a completely different wall plug. Nothing has helped so far.
I removed the group wires and the buzz got worse so I plugged them back in.
If I touch the tonearm, the buzz changes.
I have ordered new RCA cables to rule this out as the potential cause of the problem.
Any other ideas on what the issue could be?
I fee like the next step is going to be throwing everything out of the window!
Hi everyone! I'm a furniture and product design student looking to design a vinyl storage and display unit for collectors as my final project. I would be very grateful if you could spend 5 minutes answering my quick survey about how you store your records and any issues you face for my research. Thanks!
Hi everyone - just curious - do any of you label your outer sleeves, and if so how? I like to put the release year on the outers so I can store albums chronologically/I have enough records that I can't keep track of when they were all released (and because I'm too organized for my own good). I used to just put a small white sticker on a corner of the outer, but have recently upgraded my outers and am wondering if there's a different way to do it that you all like better...
A few years back I upgraded my budget cart with the Audio Technica 440Mlb. I have been absolutely thrilled with it but years of constant daily use I'm due to replace the stylus. Haven't looked at prices since I bought the cart and am quite shocked. The cheapest replacement stylus for this I can find is over $200 . I only paid $170 for the entire cartridge new. I really love this cart and how much sibilance it removes but before I pay out the nose for a replacement stylus I am wondering if there is an alternative as good in that $170 range.
I was previously using a vintage Dual 521 and purchased a Nagaoka MP-110 for it, but recently purchased a Music Hall MMF 2.2 with the "stock" Magic 2 cartridge. Does anyone have any experience with the Magic 2 cart? Is it a significant upgrade to the Nagaoka MP-110?
The Magic 2 is $50 more expensive than what I bought the Nagaoka for, but don't know if that matters.
Looking to order a Clearaudio Concept, but Amazon UK only has it via third-party sellers. Advice?
I work at a record store and like many record stores we sell hardware. We've been carrying the same passive speakers for awhile now and although they're selling okay, we've been selling essentially the same models since we opened nearly 2-years ago and we're thinking about mixing it up a little. So, the question is: what are your pick(s) for the best passive speaker(s) under $1000 USD?
We currently sell:
Totem Acoustic Mites
Totem Acoustic Dreamcatchers
Epos K1
Audioengine P4
Hey gang,
I'm adding a section about gear to the r/vinylpro wiki page and I'm looking for help from the community. If you own or use a record cleaner, I'd like to know what your experience with it is. Here's the current formatting for the wiki section:
###Cleaners Here is a list of cleaning options for records. These have been separated into categories based on average cost.
####Budget Cleaners (Less than ~$100 USD)
####Mid-Range Cleaners (~$100 - $400 USD)
####High-End Cleaners (More than ~$400 USD)
I came across this website NeedleGroove while browsing Youtube and thought some of you might be interested in the designs. He also runs a Youtube where he discusses recent purchases (Jazz dominated).
Looking back at the 70s/80s and the market was filled to the brim with gorgeous and affordable direct drive turntables, but now your only choices are the various Hanpin SL1200 clones. Why is there a lack of affordable (lets say sub $1500) direct drive tables that are not SL1200 clones? The only table that springs to mind is the Onkyo CP-1050 at it has had a very poor uptake.
I've been doing this for myself a while now, mostly for records that don't have digital versions or for vinyl specific tracks, even sometimes just to have a backup if I know I won't be able to get the record again if something happens to it. I'm able to rip into 24 Bit flac(or whatever you want) and do some pop removal.
What the service would be:
I've done this to about 15 records so far and while it is a lot of work, I enjoy keeping music from getting lost to time. Who knows, maybe some obscure record might be someone's favorite album ever, I know some of mine are. This is not to say I won't rip a common album or a specific pressing though. If someone even just wanted High res scans of the cover and inserts I'd be willing to do that too. I can provide samples of rips if that would help too. I'm wondering how much you would be willing to pay for such a service, and how many people would actually use it. Any suggestions would be appreciated too.
Several years back I stumbled onto an aspect of collecting that has since cost me thousands of dollars, I accidentally picked up my very first live bootleg recording. I was at a record fair, browsing through a Bruce Springsteen crate when I found "You Can Trust Your Car To The Man Who Wears The Star", having never heard of it I asked the seller who quickly told me it was a recording from a live concert back in the 70s, most likely recorded from the soundboard. I took it home and was instantly hooked, from the stories he told prior to songs to early version of songs with different lyrics to the final album version, it was mesmerizing. Since then I think I have accumulated over 50 boots from various artists and am still looking for more.
