What are some of the best shops in the area?
UPDATE: /u/Monkmanny looked more into it and found out Kyle Seager actually holds the record with 9. I think Altuve has a record for most thrown by one's own team, while playing with a single team. Let me know if you discover I'm wrong about this as well!
Altuve has played in 8 no-hitters:
I realized the Astros have been blessed in the no-hitters department, but had never considered Altuve's place in the midst of it. Pretty neat.
...oh, what's that? I only listed seven? Silly me. I forgot to mention that Altuve was also the starting second baseman for the Astros when Matt Cain of the Giants pitched his perfect game in 2012. Learning this fact felt like the baseball equivalent of learning that woolly mammoths may have still been alive while the Egyptian pyramids were being built.
Visiting fan and was wondering where and when would be the best place to try and get an autograph from Jeremy Pena? Was hoping you guys would have some insight, thanks!
Hey all!
Heading to the game and was wondering if MMP has a place that sells micheladas? Never seen them at the bars in go to was wondering if there is a specific spot? If you can give me a guessstimate of where the spot is too it would be great!
modelos not included....
Yes, i already posted in the popular facebook group, posting here for visibility.
Hey all,
Want to bring some family from overseas to an Astros game but two of us are on the larger side.
I've been to a couple of games in the past and remember seeing some highbacked, cushioned chairs in the front central sections, do you know which sections those would be?
I've done some searching on this sub and is it true to say all 200 level seats are cushioned also? I saw a recommendation for sections 217-221 but they aren't really available for the games I want to go to. If I got 216 or 223 would we still get comfier chairs than the hard plastic ones in the 100's?
Many thanks in advance.
Hey everyone
Rockies fan here, making a trip down to Houston and going to the game on June 15. What are the best places to sit at Minute Maid Park? We want to have shade (I know there is roof but not sure what criteria is to have it open/closed) and wanted to see advice on spots to sit. Prefer lower level(s)
We're all aware that Yainer isn't putting up his usual numbers so far in 2024 and it's the offspeed (Changeup and Splitter) Here's a quick table to show the difference from last year:
Year | % of Offspeed | BA | SLG | EV | LA | Whiff% | PutAway% |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2023 | 12.2 | .420 | .780 | 92.0 | 10 | 27.8 | 20.4 |
2024 | 14.2 | .120 | .200 | 86.3 | -2 | 17.0 | 5.7 |
*It should be noted his SLG is lower across the board but this is on another level.
The biggest takeaway for me is that Yainer is striking out much less on offspeed but it's resulting in weakly-hit groundballs as evidenced by his negative launch angle and low exit velocity (MLB average EV is ~89). This is likely the biggest contributor to his 12% rise in ground-ball rate (44.3 to 56.4). You can see this clearly with his numbers vs the Splitter: 27 times he's seen this pitch and he has 0 Ks and 0 whiffs vs it but also 0 hits.
And of course, opponents are becoming/are aware of this. From April to May, Yainer has seen 7% less fastballs while offspeed has gone up 4% and breaking 3%.
Now I am not a hitting coach nor do I know the ins and outs of Yainer's swing so take this with a bucket of salt: while Yainer is striking out less and walking a bit more, it's coming at the expense of consistent good contact. His discipline is roughly the same as in 2023, a tad better, so combine that with this new approach and a 4% rise in chase contact rate and this is what we're getting. It might be better to sacrifice that K% for less but higher quality contact as I'd rather deal with a strikeout than a weak groundball that turns into a double play.

Let’s assume our bats translate to the proper amount of runs as the season goes on (we are top 5 in many hitting categories)
What is our ceiling if we get the following (I’m listing years they could realistically hit, not listing 2017 Verlander or something that isn’t realistic:
2022 Framber & Javier Verlander being who he is last season or two 2024 Blanco 2019 Urquidy 2023 Brown & France Arighetti somewhere between his last two starts 2022 Luis Garcia 2021 McCullers
2022 Montero 2023 Abreau & Pressly 2023 Hader
And with all the above, who is in the 4,5,6 man rotation, long relief, high leverage situations.
I think between what we are now and the perfect situation like above is where we will fall by the end of the regular season, and I am just curious from other fans what they think that could translate to.
EDIT:
My main point/topic of discussion is:
do these bats have enough firepower?
Does this hypothetical scenario have us on par with the Yankees, Phillies, Dodgers, Braves, & Rangers?
& another question: which of these pitchers have the most potential to reach their ceiling listed above?
Every single year in the first month of the season,he gets a year older. I always think he might get a little worse, but every single year he keeps at it. I was gonna say "and he surprises me" but he's been this good for this long it doesn't anymore. Every Generation has that player or two you go to see at the ballpark First it was Ryan Then Biggio & Bagwell Now it's Altuve
He is currently tied with Bobby Doer for 24th all time in WAR among 2nd Baseman. And 22nd all time in JAWS. Only people ahead of him that have been on the ballot and not made it are. 21. Jeff Kent 16. Willie Randolph 13. Lou Whitaker 8. Booby Grich The rest have not been on the the ballot yet (Ian Kinsler, Dustin Pedroia & Chase Utley all debut on the the 2025 ballot. Cano, who's fate has been sealed with his two suspensions from PED's will debut in 2028)
There’s POSTCAST that comes out right after the game. Then, a little later, the original crew posts a show. Does anyone know why there are two shows?
To be fair, the original LockedOn Astros podcast crew is not great. Are they trying to phase them out with a better broadcaster?
Edit: Sounds like there’s alignment that the original duo is rough (and I agree). Maybe LockedOn is hedging their bets and potentially testing a new host for the daily astros show?
Their record dropped to 16-25. The Astros record currently stands at 17-25.
It's like poetry; it rhymes.
Can meet locally if anybody is willing to sale an extra. Looking for my daughter who is obsessed with HK.
