Recently joined the starlink universe. I need some repeaters/nest units. What is the best one to use? Also, should i hardwire for better capabilities? I also have a shop about 300 feet away. What is best way to get a signal down there?
Hello was thinking of getting a starlink Mini but was about to go on a cruise and curious if it would work on the cruise?
I want to know if I can use both a Gen 3 and Mini mobile device on the same account without paying for two separate monthly accounts.
I made a separate post last night in regards to snow and how the service was basically unusable for periods during a light snow fall last night.
I also have an ongoing support ticket open for the last couple of weeks when I noticed an increase in small outages and overall slower performance.
I updated the ticket last night to indicate during snowfall I was having issues with my service. They responded today by saying they want to send me a Gen 3 router and dish (currently have Gen 2) and cables. They’ve said the reason is because the light in the bottom of the router is off. They’ve also said they will include a free 150 ft cable and give me a months service for free.
Usually I wouldn’t question anything free especially an upgrade, but this seems odd to me. Firstly, isn’t the light on the bottom meant to be off? I don’t think it’s ever been on at least not for an extended period of time. So it seems strange that this is the reason they want to replace my equipment.
Also, can the gen 3 dish use the stand/base of the gen 2? Reason I ask is that I have the dish on my metal roof and have magnets bolted to the stand through the holes in the corners. I believe the base on Gen 3 is different correct? I’m concerned I won’t be able to mount the new dish in the same manner as the Gen 2.
Finally, does anyone have any thoughts on upgrading Gen 2 to gen 3? Should I just take it and worry about the install later? Is it a significant improvement?
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated!
If and when the speeds jump in the US would I need newer hardware im currently have the 2nd gen stuff im very curious about this and excited
Hi, I've bought a standard kit (gen 3 dish without the engine for auto link).
I saw this in the Starlink shop. I don't understand if I can use this with my standard kit without the engine and with this attachement I can get an auto link or not. Sorry if this is a dumb question but i'm not understanding this. Thanks!
I'm planning to create a star link with all uses, that you can stick onto any surafce. With a single stong suction cup with a magic screw arm. Could get the job done, with the screw thread underneath it. What do you think?
I live in North Queensland, Australia and have always had bad internet speeds that would at best be 5mb/s download and 2mb/s upload. I want to get a starlink service as no other options are better than what i've currently got. I mostly use the internet for gaming and have many devices on the network (8+). I live in a really old house so I don't have ethernet cables in my house (didn't know if it was important so thought i'd mention it). So, what kit would be the best for my situation at an affordable cost, and what extra hardware would i need? e.g mounts, cables ect. Also, Will I need to setup the hardware or will someone come out and do it? My house is also surrounded by tall trees and mountains (Don't know if that will make a difference). What speeds am I looking at possibly getting? Thanks in advance!
So basically i'm a Seafarer travelling around the world and wanted to purchase a Starlink mini. We have it onbaord but it is only limited 260 per month we have to save it until the next month reset it is really a struggle for me since also im a gamer, so i am planning to purchase my own Starlink mini buy it in the Philippines and also use it around the world.
1.) May i ask if there's a problem with the unit to set it up onboard a vessel?
2.) Do i need to change my billing address every 2 months?
3.) What service do i need to purchase for travelling around the world for a Seafarer like me
4.) Do i need to purchase another plan when arriving to a dofferwnt country?
Thanks for the advance Replies looking forward to it 😁
Let's say I buy a Starlink Mini in Europe, activate it there, and use it for a few months. I then move to the U.S. and want to change the service address to the U.S. Will activating it under a new account in the U.S. cause the Outside Region Fee to be charged?
Starlink Mini is rated IP67 but I have concerns about the seal around the face. It's hard to see in pictures, but there are imperfections all around the outside edge. Anyone else notice this or did I potentially receive a bad/defective product?
First snow event tonight since getting starlink 6 months ago. Not a very heavy snow whatsoever yet my speeds are consistently below 10 Mbps all evening. Has brought household to a halt for trying to do much of anything online.
Dish did start heating but it doesn’t seem to be doing much. Obstruction map is also filling up.
Is the service basically unusable during snow? I’ve had horrible service the last two weeks and now this. Very frustrating.
So I wanted to factory reset my Starlink and I noticed this screen. After I did so, I renamed my WiFi name and password, etc.
But, I realize that didn’t factory reset the Starlink hardware itself. I went to do so in the App and saw a warning that doing too many Factory Resets to the hardware could damage it.
Is that true? Can anyone else see that warning? Why would Factory Resetting the hardware potentially damage it?
Just got starlink a month ago and were paying $165 a month for this? How is this ok?
I just got a Starlink Mini today and created my account and setup my network settings.
I’m in Florida and I’m eligible for free service through the end of the year, but ended up having to pay $50 for the Roam plan (50gb).
After I paid and set it up, it said it was paid through Jan 1, 2025. I just paused the service as I don’t need it now, but wanted to get everything set up. Now it says I have service through Dec 1, 2024.
Thanks!
It's not the fastest, but it works. And that's all that matters in the end.
My friend saw this on the highway near the MA/VT border at 5:55 tonight and thought it was ufos lol. They look really closely bunched so was it a new launch?
Hello everyone! I am planning to be in Indonesia for 6 months and would like to get Starlink.
I would like to purchase the Starlink Mini, 50GB plan, 40 euros per month, is that option available Indonesia?
I am based in Spain now, can I order it in Spain and then use it in Indonesia or is it better to order it when I am in Indonesia?
Many thanks for your help!
So it seems the south / London is sold out on startlink - I can’t find anyway of contacting customer services without an account any ideas ? - I am at a rural location that can not get service from BT or open reach or anyone else - but it’s bang in that sold out area - any idea what the wait time is and if you really can’t get service from anyone else if you can jump the queue ?
Kenai Peninsula Alaska
Everyone i knows has it, it would literally be 10X as fast as what i have currently lol
Hi all, I’m going to be moving countries next year and will want to cancel and return my Starlink.
I’m in the UK on a hardware rental subscription. Any ideas?
Hello everyone! 😊
I recently bought a Starlink and would like to run the LAN cable through my house. Unfortunately, the connector doesn't fit through the hole. And i cant drill the Hole bigger.
Can anyone recommend a compatible cable that allows me to attach the connector myself? It should work with the standard Starlink system and be approximately 30 meters long.
Thank you so much in advance for your help! 🙏✨
Sorry for my english, its not my main language.
I read an interesting post on the background and political shenanigans of Starlink history on some subreddit a couple of months ago. It was well put and insightful, in a chronological timeline with references to higher-ups in defense companiea and policy makers. Does anyone know what this post might have been and can link to it?
I’ll try to keep this short. My BIL has a piece of property in a super rural location. We were up there all week, barely had any cell service. Eventually we want to open an RV/ Campground out of it (at least a year or two in the future since we need to develop the land). My sister and BIL also will be building their retirement/ permanent residential home there as well. There’s electricity that was recently put in on the property. I would love starlink for personal use as well. I live in another state as the property. So there’s 3 options, and two of them are personal and roam. We would like starlink for our campers one day but at this point it would just be for us as we work on the property. No one is up there on a constant basis, once every month or so at this point. Would roam be the best option for now? Also if it’s my account and I set it up under the property location, I wouldn’t be able to use that in my home state, correct? And how many users can be on the connection? Is it like WiFi where they just need a username and password? I see the kits, so I assume the connection is wherever the dish is set up? I appreciate the feedback, I’m not very tech savvy at all so apologies if these are stupid questions lol.
