Hi,
I'm not able to connect to my Synology NAS 718+ (QuickConnect or with Synology Assistant) when it's connected the my Starlink via Starlink ethernet adapter. I just got the adapter a few days ago. Anyone here has a solution?
Is it a thing?
I recently bought the Starlink kit in the U.K. but I plan to use it in a country outside the U.K. where the service has not been approved by regulators. The service is available in said location because I know people are using it despite the lack of approval.
Do I need to activate it here in the U.K. before shipping the equipment over? Would I be able activate it in said country without activating it here in the U.K. first.
I just purchased the Standard wall mount from the starlink website. How long will it take until I receive it? I'm in southeast missouri.
The white film on the Starlink dish arrived loose. Thinking it was just weatherproofing, I let it be and took a few months to keep building my camper before testing. I haven’t been able to get Starlink to work, and when I reached out to the Starlink customer service, they let me know that white film is super important and that they couldn’t give me a new product because it was past the 30 day warranty.
Any tips for how to approach would be greatly appreciated.
Hey guys,
So I had purchased my starlink here in the US and intend on using it soon in a remote region in Australia. What would the process look like when i move regions. will i have any issues?
I just did an awesome trip through VT and NH for the eclipse but good god was it stressful this day in age not being able to even get 1 bar in most places. GPS didnt even know where we were most the time.
I need to move the location of my router but the connector from the dishy into router is too big. As far as I am aware, the cable is just Cat6. Can I cut it and then put a RJ45 on each bit of cable, thread it to where I need it and then use a female to female RJ45 coupler?
My live streaming experience to Twitch & YouTube while playing games with my viewers has been great this past couple of months, no frame drops at all. Here's my settings.
1080P 60 FPS - 6000 bitrate - Settings > Advanced > Dynamically Change Bitrate To Manage Congestion (Beta) ON (This setting is very important.)
Last night I witnessed a train of satellites. At first I assumed they were the Star Link satellites which I have seen before, but they were not in a tight formation as normal. Instead they were evenly spaced far apart, around 20 of them or so (could have been more, I just so happened to look up and see them), and they disappeared one by one as they got to a cartain point in the sky. Were these still the Star Link satellites, or a completely different satellite train I'm not aware of?
Some information would be so much appreciated!!
I was thinking of buying the Starlink service for our house in Greece. The problem is that we use the house only 4 months a year. I wouldn't want to pay the subscription for the entire year. Is it possible to unsubscribe the contract and reactivate it when needed? Is this allowed? If yes, can it be done online? How long would reactivation take?
Woke up this morning to 3 young bulls strolling through our camp. The younger one (still very impressively...endowed) decided to investigate dishy. He sniffed it - how cute! He gave it an exploratory lick - adorable! He tried to use it to scratch his ass - hehe, silly bull! He...he started HEADBUTTING it - errr, stop that! He started trying to knock it over, causing an awful clacking noise from the motor as it was anchored to the ground with pegs, which were now being pulled out of the ground as he BRUTALIZED poor Dishy - OK, you bastard, that's it! I open the door of the RV and hurled insults at the unruly ungulate. He regarded me with contempt and strolled away, leaving Dishy quivering in his wake
I retrieved my fallen friend and started to investigate his injures. Nothing looked broken, but the bent pegs were worrying. I tried to stow Dishy and was met with a sad whir and very little movement. I un-stowed, and Dishy tried to move but started shuddering in a truly gruesome fashion. That beastly bovine had really done a number!
In desperation, I powered everything off, unplugged all the cables, prayed for a few minutes, then reconnected everything and crossed my fingers. There was an agonizing pause as Dishy finished booting up and began looking for a satellite. To my amazement, the motor sounded sweet, and Dishy enthusiastically span around as it locked on! After stowing and un-stowing a few times, everything was working 100% !
So there you have it. Starlink is bull tested and passed with flying colors! My dish has also survived a hailstorm and being blown over onto rocks by a freak gust of wind, which chipped a lump out of the dish. It just keeps on going.
(I have a photo of the offending ruminant investigating Dishy, but Reddit won't let me upload it)
Anyone know a good outage map for updates
We just moved into our new home and I've got the starlink setup in my home office. I'm trying to figure out a way to get the other side of the house to have a strong signal. I've already run 2 ethernet cables from my office on one side to the other side of the house. One cable for the TV to be hardwired and the other for a device I can hardwire to strengthen wifi signal in that side of the house. Is there a device that can do this that doesn't disable my Starlink router via bypass but simply transmits the same signal on that side of the house? I have an older netgear routerr if its possible to hardwire mesh that to repeat the signal I also don't mind buying a whole other device if needed. Don't care about price just want it to work as the speed on the other side of the house drops to about 10% of what I get in my office. I don't know the terminology so I apologize if this is a dumb question or phrased incorrectly.
Anybody have any ideas for a male to female extension?? I’m short about 6 feet but 10 would be better.
Just wondering how long you wait for reconnection? Is this a risk? For example I'd reconnect a month or so before I was to go to other property for the summer.
I've heard it's not hard to get back on of there is 'space'. Not wanting to pay all year since we only spend 2 months there. Cape Breton area, Nova Scotia Canada if that helps
Also wondering if the one available now is newr model or upgraded? It has become available in our area over the past year or so and was half price I think when I looked last year.
Have the units changed at all over the past 2 years or so?
When I enter address it offers 'standard actuated' model
Just took delivery of the new starlink today. This may sound a bit silly but I cannot figure out how to get the ethernet to go into the starlink dish... I have been able to insert it into the router side but for the life of me cannot figure out why it won't click into the dish. Has anyone dealt with this issue?
Just set up one of the new flat (non-motorised) dishys - the process was a bit more streamlined than when I set up my gen2 about a year and a half ago - I had a few config SNAFUs back then but easy enough for a techy to work out
the roof mount and pole mount kits look to be pretty solid
and the cable has standard network connector (RJ45) with the addition of a weatherproof rubber flange - that is at both ends
this kit (for the neighbour) also came with an additional ridiculously long cable in case we wanted to put the dishy up on the ridgeline above the forest canopy
This is my current internet speed. We currently have LTE, it’s the only thing that’s available at my house. Trying to decide what we want to do.
I am only posting this because this one completely wiped my obstructions map out unlike the last few updates. Just a heads up. Everything else appears to be fine so far. (Gen 2 / Louisiana)
For basic http://dishy.starlink.com i also get just SL logo, but direct links works in my case:
Router bypassed, ethernet to Xiaomi AX1500 router, wifi (2.4&5)(works on both) to my Thinkpad, win10 and dishy firrmware [d2d8c1b0-eccf-4d60-9a54-dd4ccfeb59fb]. Also works with my gaming pc wired to ax router. Location: Germany.
So I've been trying to set up Starlink, placing the dish and all. I used the obstruction app, found a place it swore--three tries!--was a GREAT PLACE to put it. Well, at 11 am, it worked like a charm. 110 meg down; I could scarcely believe it. Tried it again at 4 pm, same place. It won't connect. At all.
What in the world am I doing wrong with this thing? Any advice is appreciated.
We live in rural Alabama. On top of a mountain with a very clear view of the sky. 2 adults 3 children 5 phones 2 Xbox and a play station. AT&T will not connect us until they put fiber in. Is Starlink a good option for us?
Hi, I own a remote fishing lodge in Oregon. Off Grid. I use a Jackery solar ge erator to power up my Viasat dish for internet and VOIP telephone.
My property is in a fairly deep canyon. The house where Id like to have my access is pretty close to the hillside, so I dont think the dish would work there because of view of the sky. I can put the dish on a pole solidly mounted on a platform about 500 feet away in the middle of the gravel bar and use like a Jackery solar generator with a solar panel. I would enclose the modem and jackery in a case to protect it then run the cable up 15 feet or so to a pole mounted dish. Im wondering if a "Bridge" with Line of sight to the house would Work. My staff and family do some online schooling and need better internet than my current Viasat (viaCrap) system will supply. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Please dumb down the techy for me. I can build you a house, rebuild your generstor, weld up a race car chassis... Electronics.... not so much...
Thanks community.
I'm going to install on my flat roof, the X shaped mount/stand that came with the kit..can I just drill holes, put plugs, screws and washers to hold it down..yes? Or do I need to also screw a brace of some sort over this X shaped mount? I'm in Dominican republic, so there's hurricane winds sometimes, though never big direct hits here. I'm putting the cable inside a 3 inch PVC pipe to go across roof, up, over and down to where it enters the house..as I can't risk the cable blowing about in hurricane winds. I've drilled small holes on bottom of the pipe for air circulation and for rainwater to escape. Thanks in advance
I currently have 6Mbps CentruyLink/BrightSpeed DSL. I have purchased Starlink Standard Gen3. I mounted and aligned it yesterday. The SL wireless works great! Getting around 125Mbps with 22ms latency and 11Mbps up, sure beats my 6Mbps CL/BS connection
For short term: Can I connect my SL directly to my wired network using one of the ethernet ports on the SL? I would unplug the ethernet cable from the CL/BS router and connect that to the SL? The other end is connected to my network switch. Or will I have to go to bypass mode now?
I already have a new router (Protectli with OPNsense) just have not configured it yet.
My current wireless setup on the homestead is Ubiquiti APs in the house, shop and barn. I will continue to use Ubiquiti as my wireless.
Caminhoneiro agradece Elon Musk pela existência do STARLINK. Sem ele, não poderia ficar conectado nas estradas pelo Brasil. Porém... Até isso, Lula quer tirar do povo.
Truck driver thanks Elon Musk for the existence of STARLINK. Without it, I wouldn't be able to stay connected on the roads across Brazil. However... Even that, Lula wants to take away from the people.
Hello,
I got Starlink a few days ago, I'm from Argentina. The service, at least as of now, isn't really for me. So I was wondering how to get a refund. I already canceled the service.
Also, I used one of the stickers that come with the thing and pasted it in a pc, does that cancel the refund or something?
Edit: Nevermind I just installed it on the roof and it works fantastically
