Concerning the SH2R combat trailer, con someone explain what exactly is wrong with the animations?

I mean sure, they don't really have any smoothing between them so it just skips to the next animation during melee and some of them look stiff, like the door opening animation, and some of the enemies look like they have early test animations, but other than that I don't really have a problem with the choreography itself. It makes a certain amount of sense that James, being a normal guy, would swing a 2 x 6 like that, just sort of clumsily and without proper footing so he's throwing himself forward. In fact we kind of saw that in the first trailer when he starts smacking the shit out of a nurse in a hallway. So I'm just curious what people mean when they say that they're bad animations.

Someone made a remake of Room 302 in UE5

This looks insanely good.

It makes me wish a full remake of SH4 even more.

Favourite item or Easter egg in SH?

What's your favourite item to find and in which game? I like the Portishead poster in... SH1 I think it was. The pork liver item in SH3 is at least one of my favourites.

I love all of the miniscule details in SH2 AND 3, some of the unused content is really interesting too, like the VHS tape coupled with the audio file of Maria's muffled screams. The posters of Maria near the beginning of SH2 are a nice detail, as is the faint texture in the health symbol. The solid snake reference in SH3, the possible spectrophobia reference in SH3 (really well done scene whether it's that or not, I have spectrophobia so it's interesting to think about, personally).

The other games I've only played or watched all the way through once, so I'm not super familiar with many of the items and references/easter eggs.

Just saw 'All of us strangers'

It's a better Silent Hill story than The Short Message (and of course Ascension). I don't know if Andrew Haigh knows the games or is just coincidence and the fact that the script is based on a japanese novel about ghosts, but I think it has lots of SH vibes and I doubt very much that the remake and the new movie by Christophe Gans will achieve this.

Silent Hill 2 EE Minimum requirement

So I recently got into the Silent Hill game franchise, I was wondering what is the minimum requirement to play the Enhanced Edition of Silent Hill 2? Since I have a really low end laptop

My Specs:
Intel i5 10210U
Intel UHD Graphics
8GB DDR3 ram

Ik that old games like these are pretty easy to run on modern hardware, but since the modpack has HD features and such, I was a bit concerned, as my experience (performance wise) with them were not great. Any feedback is much appreciated <3

What would have happened if Rose was the one to defeat the order completely before Alessa ever merged back into Sharon?

I haven’t been lucky enough to play the game and not sure I will be able to because I do not know what console they are on so I am going based off the movies? If there is anything in the games as well to base your theory on feel free to put it in your comment.

Worst Western Silent Hill Game?

It's no secret that all of the western Silent Hill games post-Team Silent are highly divisive, so out of curiosity, which do you consider to be the worst?

EDIT: I know that The Short Message isn't Western and I probably should have just titled this poll "Worst Overall Silent Hill Game". Unfortunately, I'm not able to edit the title.

Anybody have any experience with the Stray Souls game from last year?

It has Akira Yamaoka of Silent Hill fame doing the music and looks like a very low budget take on what a modern Silent Hill would be. I thought the trailer had bad animations, but otherwise the game looked kind of cool and the story seemed interesting. Has anyone played this and had a positive experience? I don't care if it's not really scary or only a few hours long, I only care if it's fun. I was surprised it was at 2.48 on the PlayStation store. Also if anyone knows if there is a physical copy for this, I would be interested (yes, I know I'm weird).

Silent Hill 2 was a great first choice for a remake project.

As a newcomer to the SH franchise, I've seen lots of criticism of the upcoming SH2 remake. In fact, I could probably say that the buzz of mixed reactions around the Combat Reveal Trailer is what ultimately drew me to finally try Silent Hill for myself and play the first 3 games. (I'm about to start 4!) Some of the criticisms of SH2R are fair--the latest trailer was definitely not great, I will agree--but a few of them seem less valid, at least to my perspective.

Many have questioned why SH2 is even being remade in the first place when SH1 is more dated and would benefit more from a graphical upgrade. But I'd argue that remaking SH2 first was a great idea when it comes to the business strategy of remaking the first 3 games.

Justifying the Idea of Silent Hill Remakes

First, let me address the broader question of "Why remake these games at all?" After all, they each play really well to this day, even SH1. There are tons of risks involved in even attempting to remake such classic games. Much more can go wrong than can go right. And with the SH2 remake using a 3rd-person over-the-shoulder camera, it seems transparently clear that Konami is just chasing the success of the Resident Evil remakes. Doesn't all that bode poorly for the very idea of SH remakes?

I don't think so. I think the potential benefits of remaking the SH games outweigh the potential negatives.

From what I understand, chasing the success of Resident Evil was what got Silent Hill made in the first place. It turned out well and not merely derivative because there was a great team behind it. The motivations of the publisher don't necessarily mean the game itself won't turn out great.

As far as the new camera goes, honestly...it's kind of a no-brainer for a developer/publisher that wants their modern-release horror game to be a success. I enjoyed the fixed angles of the originals, but they aren't popular today, and they undoubtedly come with trade-offs. What you gain in cinematics via fixed camera angles, you lose in combat complexity. Fixed angles are forced to rely on auto-aim, which inherently simplifies combat. An over-the-shoulder camera lessens the cinematic possibilities of the game, yes, but (at least in theory) it increases the combat complexity. You will actually have to aim your weapons in the new SH2. For many players, that change will increase their enjoyment factor, and that isn't insignificant. For some, the new camera will even increase the horror. (You won't be able to see what's behind you, for example.) It's not for everyone, of course, but the idea that it's a misguided change altogether seems kind of silly and unrealistic to me. Most people enjoyed RE2R just as much as (or more than) the original RE2 because in spite of being delivered in a new format, it was still well-crafted to deliver a similar feeling to the original. I'm sure I'll miss some of the cinematic angles of the original SH2, but more engaging combat will be an absolutely worthy trade-off in my mind.

If the very idea of remaking these games and changing anything about them is unappealing to you, well...at the risk of sounding like a sell-out, you probably just aren't the remake's target audience. Konami wants to tap into the enormous market for modern survival horror, and why shouldn't they? Nobody can make beautiful games, or games at all, without turning a healthy profit. I think in most ways, bringing SH to a broader audience can only be a good thing because it increases the chances of getting quality releases in the future.

Also, although I thought SH2 was a masterpiece, it really can't be argued that it's absolutely perfect. The final boss was a pretty disappointing damper on the game that you pretty much have to overlook. The gunplay could sometimes be really awkward, especially when fighting humans. And I don't think every camera angle and acting choice in the cutscenes was necessarily the very best it could possibly have been. There is room for improvement.

As far as the other games go--SH1 is fantastic but naturally a little dated on the PS1. And though I liked SH3, it had some frustrating balance issues and overall I think more could have been done with it. It's prime remake material.

Remaking SH2 Before SH1

Returning to the question of "Why remake SH2 first and not SH1?" ... Most people have assumed they chose SH2 because it was the most popular of the first 3 games and carries the most clout and mystique in the gaming world. This is true; I don't know if I wouldn't have been as interested in the remake if it had been focused on 1 instead of 2, but for someone who had heard of SH but never played it, seeing the announcement of a SH2 remake last year (or... 2 years ago?) certainly did pique my interest.

After having played SH 1, 2, and 3 myself, I think remaking SH2 first was a perfectly reasonable decision--a smart one, even--beyond SH2 simply being the most popular.

My understanding is that every SH game sold less than the one before, to the point of being financial disappointments. This is not something they want to repeat with SH remakes. One reason the original SH3 may not have sold as much as it could have is that it came out after SH2 had kind of already stole the "Silent Hill sequel" thunder.

I didn't play the games upon release, but I can imagine that for players it was a little inelegant to start the story in 1, go a totally different direction in 2, and then return to the original story in 3. I can't imagine that helped sales of the third game. >!I have no theory as to why SH2 sold less than SH1...!<

However, if the remake of SH2 performs well, what game would be next for the remake series? Well, I doubt they'd choose anything other than SH1. SH3 is such a direct sequel to 1 that it'd be nonsensical to remake it first. Assuming SH2 Remake is a success, they would almost certainly remake SH1 next. For all the new players of the Silent Hill series who will come from the SH2 remake, I can't imagine they wouldn't want to play a similar remake of the game that started it all.

From there, SH3 would be the next most sensible remake, and would be bound to be a bigger success than the original SH3 for the simple reason that it can be marketed heavily as a direct follow-up to the story of the previous game. (If they're smart, they'll place extra teasers in SH1 Remake about Heather and/or Claudia to build hype for SH3R right out of the gate.)

Instead of remaking SH1 first, they can get the standalone story of 2 done with and then begin a 2-game arc with remakes of SH1 and 3 to help better retain the new audience they will gain from SH2R.

Conclusion

This release strategy is almost certain to keep SH newcomers more engaged in the series' story than if they had done 1, 2, and 3 in chronological order, removing the problem of SH2's deviation from the main story of 1 and 3. I could be wrong, of course--and naturally, this all depends on the remake(s) being well-crafted and resonating with the horror games market. Only time will really tell.

I don't think one mediocre trailer means that much for SH2 Remake at this point in time. It can very well turn out to be a huge success. It could even sell more copies than any previous SH game for all we know. But I do want to be clear that it's absolutely possible Bloober Team might screw things up. Maybe there won't ever be another SH remake after SH2R. Who knows? >!(I've never played one of Bloober's games, so seeing some of the hot-headed criticism directed at them online has left me curious, to say the least. Some of it seems to cross out of the realm of honest critique and into the spiteful, which I find really strange...)!<

But I'm choosing to be optimistic about the SH2 Remake--something that's admittedly easy for me to do since I haven't spent years being a fan of this franchise and watching it be continually mishandled. The idea of modern Silent Hill remakes is exciting to me, and even though much of the latest SH2R trailer was mediocre, I'm still excited by the majority of what they've shown of the game.

And I really hope it is a success so we can get awesome remakes of the other games next. (In addition to proper remasters/re-releases of the originals.)

I’m making a youtube video of my favorite silent hill fun facts, and i thought it would be fun to open up a discussion about y’all’s favorite fun facts as well. One thing i only learned recently is that Silent Hill was originally to be a video-game adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Mist,” but this idea was ultimately scrapped. What are some fun facts y’all know/enjoy?
