Anyone lose a cat in wickford? (Chubby, long haired, black and white)

It’s really cold out tonight, and I saw a cat by the public restrooms across the bridge from wickford on the water. Chubby thing, so likely not a stray, but scared looking.

What is this?

Seen while driving on I295 just a little east of 146. Looks like a chain of lights dangling high in the air.

Is the driving in RI really that bad compared to other states?

Everyone complains about the driving here, rightfully so. As someone who drives 25,000 miles a year, (average is 10,000-12,000), I don’t blame people for complaining. I complain a lot about it myself. However, is it really that bad in RI compared to other states? Or is it just as bad everywhere else?

Apartment Hunting

Where do people find apartments these days? Where are they listed most? Been checking Facebook but half the listing's are fake and Zillow and Realtor.com seem to only have a handful in the area I'm looking (Warwick). Is it just slim pickings this time a year or am I doing something wrong?

Is this knife legal to conceal and carry in Rhode Island?

https://preview.redd.it/kicgcme9ea4e1.png?width=2660&format=png&auto=webp&s=e7ccc279504a659a3fbc7eac3d60821d035f8643

Concealed Carry Restrictions: It is illegal to carry concealed upon your person:

  • Any dagger, dirk, stiletto, sword-in-cane, Bowie knife, or similar weapon designed to cut and stab.
  • Any knife with a blade longer than three inches, measured from the handle to the tip of the blade.

more about the actual laws here.

----

Here are the knives dimensions: Blade: (L) 2.51” x (W) .74” | Handle: (L) 3.23” x (W) .14”

----

I wish Rhode Island was less vague with it's laws. I just want a simple answer to the question, can I buy this knife, and keep it on my belt, under my shirt?

thanks all! Appreciate any help.

I want to talk about Greggs Holiday Meal

I know Greggs is basically a RI Institution. They are great with desserts. BUT OMG, their pre-made Thanksgiving Dinner was barely edible. We had a few emergency issues pop up before Thanksgiving so we decided to let Greggs do our holiday meal. A decision we all regret.

The ordering and pick up process are quick, easy and efficient. Their staff are friendly and helpful. Their food was oh so terrible. I've had the Thanksgiving meal and sandwich there before so I figured it would be okay, not as good as freshly made but still worth the money.

The turkey had a very off putting taste and smell. No one ate it after their first bite. The squash was watery and had too much cinnamon so you could not taste the actual sqash. Who needs 2lbs of plain peas?I understand that I knew what I was ordering but in actuality, a cup would suffice. The mashed potatoes were okay. Needed butter and S&P but not too bad.

What the actually heck was that stuffing? It was a solid chunk of mystery ingredients that tasted like nothing and mush. We have no idea what was in it and didn't eat it. We tossed everything (including the gravy and cranberry relish) in the trash and kept the potatoes.

I was so disappointed. I wasn't expecting greatness because it was pre-made and frozen but I have honestly had better Lean Cusine turkey meals than what I got from Greggs. It isn't the money spent but the disappointed people sitting at the table eagerly awaiting their dinner.

I have learned my lesson. I am wondering if anyone else had the same experience or did they enjoy their Greggs Holiday meal? I am genuinely curious so please let me know.

Holiday Events in RI

With the holiday season upon us, I'm trying to find some festive events to attend with my family (I have a 10-year-old daughter).

We already see the light displays every year at Slater and/or LaSalette every year. We've done Blithewold and the Newport Mansions for the holidays.

What other fun, unique, or spectacular holiday events/places should we have on our radar?

What do you think is the percentage of people who don’t know what a yield sign means in RI?

It seems like about 50% of the people that I come across in RI think that they have the right of way at a yield sign. It’s so prevalent, that I expect people to not yield. I’ve had people pull up and stop and look at me as if I’m an idiot for NOT cutting them off when I have a yield. This one person threw her hands up and made a GO! motion while completely stopping as I was waiting at a yield after entering a turnaround spot.

What are the worst merge areas for drivers in the state?

Lately, I’ve been struggling where 195W merges onto 95S. As I’m trying to get onto 95S, cars are slamming on their brakes to take the Thurbers Ave exit. Definitely not fun lol

Antique stores?

I'm looking for a dresser for my bedroom and hoping to go the antique or used furniture route. Can anyone recommend a furniture store for me to try?

Civil Engineering in URI

Hello everyone! 😊

I hope you're doing well. I’m reaching out to connect with students in the Civil or Environmental Engineering fields—whether you’re pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or even a PhD. I have a few questions about the courses and professors, as I’ve recently been admitted for the upcoming semester.

I would greatly appreciate any advice or assistance.

If this isn’t the right community, I’d be grateful if you could point me toward a more suitable one.

Thank you all!

Private dog grooming suites—is there a market for this?

I currently own a commercial building in the heart of Warwick. I’d like to convert the space to be small grooming suites that independent dog groomers can rent for a flat rate. The space would come with the essentials (eg washing and other stations), and the groomer would operate completely independently and can customize their space.

My question—do folks see a market for this? I know of several groomers looking to break away from corporate, but it’s hard to tell if there is a need for these types of spaces (similar to how a stylist will rent a chair in a salon, except these are true rooms).

Any feedback is appreciated. Thank you!

Anyone have any photos of the old Newport Creamery that used to be in Lincoln Mall?

For years I have very faint memories as a kid of going with my parents to an ice cream parlor in a mall and I could never figure out what it was until today when I found out there was a Newport Creamery that fits my description that used to be in Lincoln Mall. Does anyone have any photos of the entrance or inside to feel that nostalgia and confirm that this is what I remembered? Thanks!

How does RI have the third highest percentage change in homeless people? (Stolen from r/Maine)

Is it because of the insane median house prices in RI? I’m genuinely curious
