Do they have lockers? Wife needs to know?
Hi! I’m hoping to get married at Fishermen’s Memorial state park that overlooks Point Judith lighthouse in the spring. I’m not trying to get married on the actual Coast Guard base at the lighthouse but at the park just north of it. I found the appropriate contacts about how to reserve time at the park for a 15 minute small ceremony, however, I was informed they don’t allow wedding ceremonies at the park. This was a surprise to me because I have witnessed a wedding happen at the park. Does anyone know if people just get married there regardless of the rule and hope for forgiveness rather than permission? Thank you!
Our kid is a sr in high school who just finished the fall semester at URI through the state’s Dual Enrollment program, which allows HS students to take classes at URI/RIC/CCRI. We just received an e-mail from the person who coordinates the Dual Enrollment program at URI that starting spring semester, everyone who is using this program now has to pay $600/credit hour.
My kid was scheduled to take 11 credits in the spring. So, according to this email, we have to come up with $6700 by Jan 10…. Oh, and we have not received any kind of bill or financial statement from the university.
There are hundreds of kids taking advantage of this program who now may not be able to graduate this spring unless they can come up with the cash in ~3 weeks. This is the first notice we’ve received and the high school seems to be unaware of this change in circumstance.
Is there any chance this is some kind of fraud attempt? I know our state government is woefully inept at times, but this seems extreme, even for them Anyone else receive this and/or know anything further?
Just a heads up there's a few new ones all up and down Newport ave. For the longest time the main ones I knew were the speed trap by Goff junior high/potter burns and then a red light camera near sunaco/honey dew intersection.
I can't remember the exact spots I saw new ones but I counted 3-4.
The ones I remember is coming from Rumford, one right near piezonis and that Dunkin donuts. And another one literally 10 seconds down the road next to that fire station.
I saw it flashing a shit ton of times. I don't think I got hit because I was doing 28-30mph and didn't run a yellow light but now I'm paranoid it still got me for something. I mean this thing was flashing like crazy tagging people. 😂
Those are the ones off the top of my head but still be cautious for the rest of Newport ave.
Edit: Also no one has commented yet but I know sometimes people on Reddit for whatever reason like to interpret things the wrong way or intentionally be obtuse but this post isn't me condoning speeding. I'm just giving people a heads up to be careful driving so they don't get hit with a ticket.
Honestly, some tickets can feel unfair. Blatantly running a red light or going 10+ mph over the limit is different from, say, passing through a yellow light as just it turns red or being 2 mph over the limit. Theres hard working people out there being forced to spend $50 plus to pay for a ticket they really don't deserve. Money is already tight as it is.
So I'm writing a story, and plot for a game, it doesn't take place in Rhode Island, but it affects Rhode Island.
In my story there is a archipelago, near the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, it's a fairly sizable islands, during the American war for independence the Administration entered an agreement with the Colonies. The archipelago would join the Union under the sponsorship of Rhode Island and as a autonomous territory in the event that America gains independence.
Now this archipelago is strict, they were founded by Puritans but never fell under European control and has a almost culty version of Christianity. They have the nickname of "the Vatican of America" due to their secrets. Not much is known about the archipelago, but your state has the responsibility of conducting trade, sending medicine, technology, and overall caring for the distant island.
The Archipelagos vote counts towards the Rhode Island vote, and any Archipelago citizen on the mainland will count as a Rhode Island citizen. The archipelago dose not pay taxes to the state or federal government exept the tax of importing and exporting. Goods and people can only go through Rhode Island ports to reach the archipelago, and Rhode Island gets a cut of the archipelago’s exotic goods.
The Archipelago can't vote in rhode island’s state elections, but votes in federal elections, (in the story) in 2016 they were the ones who pushed Rhode Island into voting for trump!
Now this archipelago is mysterious, lots of rumors and stories of disappearing people are commen place on the archipelago, most Americans have never met or interacted with a citizen from the archipelago.
So In this story there is a far off group of islands who influences your politics in the general election, is under your protection dispite not paying your taxes, and have been there since the dawn of this great Union but yet you can't visit it without permission. It's a country within a country, an minor entity that has even went against the federal government multiple times yet is still there.
So tell me how do you a Rhode Island citizen feel about this entity, how would this group of island’s affect your perception on your state and its role. I'm trying to make this story realistic so I need some honest reactions and opinions if this were your reality.
Also here is the rough draft of the founding document of this relationship
(The Compact of Association and Mutual Concord of ~~~~~
Concerning the Archipelago of ~~~~~, 1775 (Modernly Known as the “Archipelago of ~~~~~ Compromise” and would later become "Article XII: The Archipelago of ~~~~~" of the Rhode Island State Constitution.)

ARTICLE XI The status of the Archipelago of ~~~~~ as an autonomous territory under the sponsorship of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations shall not be abridged, altered, or annulled save by the mutual consent of:
The Administration of the Archipelago, by vote of its governing council;
The General Assembly of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations;

Trying to get my TDI paperwork filled out for the state. The staff at both my primary care physicians and orthopedic physician are both so difficult. My primary care insists its against HIPPA to email them the BLANK forms so they can fill them out and return them. The orthopedics just out right refuse to fill them out at all.
Severely injured knee. Was given no pain modification except tylenol and advil. Called to get either something stronger, or a brace or anything to help with the excruciating pain. Person who answers the phone just says "well what do you want us to do?" . I have to look for a new primary care physician now as I just can't take them any longer, but that's a whole different issue.
Speaking of that, anyone know of any physicians who are taking new patients for primary care in the Warwick/West Warwick area? I am diabetic and taking seven different prescriptions so I need a doctor so I can keep getting my meds. I have enough to last a couple of months but finding a doc who will take new patients is so hard.
I have recently sold a 3 family home to a client of mine in Providence. It is currently being renovated with three contractors. While the contractors have been working on the home, they have experienced strange phenomena in the first floor unit, and initially concluded someone must have been breaking in. However, nothing is missing or stolen. The phenomena escalated when a chair was launched at one of the contractors by an unknown entity. My clients called me to ask for advice. Selling would not be useful since they just bought the home. Has anyone in this community dealt with a similar issue? And if so, what is your suggestion? Is there a medium on this platform that can help? Any suggestions are appreciated.
I dont want to get into it on terminology i talk fucky just take the meat of my questions please
It seems like any populated area i go theres a begger
I dont really care if its cause theyre junkees or nuts, i just dont like that theyre out there freezing without help, while also being a health risk
Its like i hear people bitching about these folks but in reality no matter how you slice it, they shouldn't be a demographic
Its unethical to let these people starve or die of exposure
Its unethical to leave the inherent risk of so many unhinged, sick individuals out there without the help they need. Its just begging for something to go wrong and someone to get hurt
So from both an empathy perspective as well as a selfish one i gotta ask, how can i help in a meaningful way? What programs can i volunteer at to keep these folks fed and warm, what organizations help get people on their feet?
Is there a reasonable way i can get paid to do this so i can do it more often than once in a while?
Hey gang. Just moved to RI from Mass. Excited FTHB. Any good recs for radon testing/mitigation? Thanks
I would post the petition link, and present it to the local representative, or senator. To then try and have it enacted as a state law. But, I wanted your thoughts on this.
tried looking into it but everything is order online? which is fine ig but id rather get it in person
edit: they are also called biquinhos
anybody know what the best neighborhoods or places are to see holiday lights in the coventry/west warwick area? tryna get into the spirit!
I figured it might be a fun place to go and spend the night, and I found a bunch of events online, but I'm not sure if it's the kind of place for people around 30 y/o to go for NYE.
Just for round numbers, let’s say a property was last assessed for $250k at $10 per $1,000 such that the annual property tax is $2,500. Now let’s say that same house sells today for $500k. Will the property taxes be reevaluated at this $500k such that they would literally double to $5,000 per year? Or does the state require major tax adjustments to be done during the every so many years assessment so that everyone gets adjusted as well as the tax rates to meet the town budgets and to prevent massive tax increases on single properties like this from occurring?
My wife and I are coming home from the south after a few years away and we are planning to stock up on some things we miss. Besides Golden's egg nog for Xmas and Saugy's for the freezer, what should we not forget? Things that can be frozen are preferred. Thanks in advance!
Are they ever coming back?
:(
What’s everyone doing for NYE? I’ve never been out for the holiday in RI so looking for ideas!
I’m doing research for a YouTube video, and am curious if there is a dish that any of you would consider Rhode Island’s signature dessert?
EDIT: SPECIFICALLY IN MASSACHUSETTS
I purchased a new used vehicle on 12/1. The runner who brings all the paper work to get the new vehicle registered at RI dmv has officially messed up the process twice.
First time was becuase he didn't get a vin check first.
Fast forward to today I emailed the dmv (becuase apparently speaking to someone on the phone is impossible) I got a response back stating that the paper work was dropped off but the dealer will have to do it again becuase when registering truck in rhode island the weight has to be put on the registration paper work which it wasn't.
I would have never figured this out if I didn't email them and I would have been waiting weeks just to find out there was another issue.
I now have to wait another 7 to 14 days when they drop off the paper work again (which probably won't happen until tomorrow or the day after).
When that is all finished I will have to wait for them to either 1.) Mail the plates to the dealer or 2.) The dealer picks up the plates.
Had I known any of this was a possibility beforehand I would have stayed away.
So I figured I'd just let you all know if you didn't already so you could avoid the head ache
I'm a little surprised by my gas bill in Dec but I'm also living in a bigger home than what I'm used to with a gas stove. Keeping the temp at around 68-69°, bill is a little over $300. Does this seem average?
I’ve got the perfect place where it could happen. I’m having a difficult time with socializing. My Shiba is very timid with most dogs, especially ones that are over excited and want to chase her. I just feel like she would have an easier time getting to know other dogs who are also Shibas with the unique Shiba personality.
She does well with dogs who hardly pay attention to her. It’s the dogs who get up in her face and jumping all over that scare her.
Hi all,
Considering proposing at Conimicut point - never been but from what I can tell it's a perfect place for the type of proposal my partner has talked about.
My concern is lighting at night. I hear the photo op with the lighthouse off the coast is pretty sweet. I have a friend with a proper camera that can adjust some settings for a nice night time photo I think.
But any feedback on this spot as the spot to pop the question - good or bad - please let me hear it!
EDIT: From current feedback, I plan to try to do this at sunset instead of night. Not looking for professional photos here, just gonna have a friend with a camera try to hit a nice money shot of the moment.
Also - sandbar will be avoided! Thanks for the warnings.
