Hello, I am visiting Newport and wondering about swimming opportunities. How does it look off season? Can one just go to any beach or just dip in the harbour? Are there any restrictions one should pay attention to? Cheers!
With daylight savings on Sunday, sunset next week starts at 4:30ish pm. Would 5:30 at castle hill be too late to take in the sunset? Better to wait until the weekend and go actually at sunset?
Does anyone have a busted board taking up space in their garage they’d be willing to part with for my Sid costume?
We’re hoping to host a celebration of life (truly - we want it to be a party) somewhere in Newport. Any suggestions for a place where we can have about 50 people come, have apps and drinks (no n r for s seated meal), and chat? A view of the water is required. Thanks!
Hey all,
I am starting a new job where I'll need to commute to Cambridge (Kendall Square) once a week and I'm trying to figure out the best route. I would like to avoid driving the entire way if possible since the traffic is so horrendous. Here's what I'm thinking of as options:
Drive to Braintree and take Redline to Cambridge
Drive/Bus to Providence and take CR to South Station then Redline to Cambridge
Drive to somewhere closer like Brockton, Manfield, etc, and then take CR from there
Also, I'm hoping once the new CR line to Fall River opens in the Spring that might be a better option. But for now, does anyone else have this commute or have any other ideas? Thanks!
Can you rank the below restaurants for the best, romantic dinner?
TSK Clarke Cooke house The mooring
Will be spending a significant amount of time in Newport in the off seasons/winters with my 15 month old, starting in November (husband works remote and we have relatives condo to stay at)
Any recommendations on things to do with her other than Library story times? Are there any other playgroups/meet ups? I’m wondering the best way to meet other moms/littles
Around 4:30 this afternoon there was a massive snapping turtle coming out of the pond making its way to the moat. It was over two feet long. Did anyone snap a photo?!
I walked on Cliff Walk for the first time in a long time (avoiding the tourists), and I was struck by how poor the infrastructure is in parts. Narrow gravel path surrounded by chainlink fence. Dark low tunnels that only fit 1 person comfortably so you have to wait for anyone to come out first before going through. And then of course there are entire sections that are just rocks to hop across. It's narrow, so if anyone is stopping to take pictures you have to wait behind them, cannot walk side by side with anyone or else you have to move over anytime someone is coming in the other direction.
It shocked me considering this is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Newport and probably the entire state of RI that it's so poorly served. They should widen the paths, redo paving, add lights to the tunnels, etc. I think more locals would use it too if it wasn't so congested.
Any reason for this? Is it issues with the rich houses on the road fighting any changes? No political will for it? Why let one of the greatest assets to the city crumble?
Saw them painting the building as I drove by yesterday. Anybody know what’s going in there?
hi friends! I’m 24 (they/them), new to Newport and looking for friends to go to Shabbat with🫶✡️ comment/dm if you’d like to, community is more important than ever in these times
I see a lot of rentals sitting on Zillow, many with price drops. Is it normal to have so many rentals vacant? Assuming due to the rise in supply, we’ll some asking rents dropping.
Im looking for places to live and I’d figure I’d ask people who actually live here. I’m curious about things such as cost, walkability, culture, beauty, social events, etc
Should I call in or go to the courthouse? Confused
Besides an experience of my own in the historical city of York,* I have visited many haunted place, With so many rational people having planned ghost tours, it is difficult to call them crazy or attention-seekers, Does anyone know haunted places in the Newport area?
Hi all,
I recently moved to Newport and started producing music on my laptop around the same time. It has developed into a serious hobby and I'd like to be around other people rather than alone.
You don't need to be a music producer. As long as you've got a solitary hobby, I think it would work!
Let me know!
I'm attending a bachelorette that was pitched as being in Newport, but just received the house options and they're in Narragansett/Bonnet Shores. The itinerary looks like it's still very Newport-based (Cliff walk, restaurant suggestions, Newport Polo, Newport Vineyards, etc.) . Is this as unreasonable as it sounds to me? How bad would traffic be? I'm assuming ubers get surge price in the middle of the summer as well. Please advise!
Hi all! I just moved here and am looking for likeminded friends :) I love art, the beach, exploring/travel, going on walks, gymnastics, watching movies, and trying new cuisines. I’m queer and Jewish, would love to find some friends to go to Shabbat with🫶✡️ and also friends who are either LGBTQ+ or allies ofc🌈
So I just moved to this area recently and was trying to figure out a few things about Halloween and Newport
