First ever pc build

This is my first ever pc build, im looking to build something in the £500 range, to use for light to moderate gaming but mainly University work.

Im planning to buy the more expensive parts second hand e.g the CPU, GPU.

This is the list of components ive came up with (based of a video help with a few small changes) The prices sre rough estimates from what I found both new and second hand so dont worry about those.

CPU - AMD RYSEN 9 3900X = £120-150 MOTHERBOARD - MSI A520M-A PRO = £70 GPU - GTX 1660 super = £100 POWER - Corsair CV650 = £30 MEMORY - Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB x2 = £20 RAM - SATA SSD = £20 CASE - Thermaltake Versa H18 = £40 LEDS - upHere 5 Pack 120mm RGB = £30

Is this good for my needs? Is there anything i should change?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Building my friend his first PC!

My friend has been playing on Xbox for about 4 years now, I have one too and played with him but I always preferred my PC more so I decided to build him one, He loves streaming and playing games but is also a big fan of RGB so I planned this list to be easy on my wallet and also give him the best experience possible while making the RGB easy to control. It will all be controlled through MSI mystic light. The specs are i5-12400f, 3060 ti (great deal for a "refurbished"/new one $288 for it and comes with a 2-year warranty), 32GB ram, 256GB NVME, and a 2TB HDD (7200rpm), and a Thermaltake Smart BX1 750W 80+ bronze power supply. I will be building this for Christmas but he will receive it by his birthday (1 month after). It's 1 big present for both events. it will cost me $1,184.17 *after shipping* Im building with all new parts to have warranties and to have a guarantee that they will work, plus it should last him quite a while with those specs.

When playing certain games, my pc would turn my monitors off, then the fans will speed up really fast before shutting the whole pc off. Anyone knows why?

Who should I buy from

Gonna purchase a new desktop through my local Best Buy because a) I don’t have reliable mail delivery and b) I’m terrified of my shinny new system getting damaged in transport.

What I am planning to build. I was just wondering if I should change anything in order to get what I am paying for etc. Or if I’m going over the top with some things and not others
