I have this mustang and I'm wondering if the pickup covers would be able to fit over the seymour duncan hotrail i got if not oh well
Hey all, tldr I am getting a VERY annoying and frustrating resonance on my G string when I play above the 12th fret like when you would play behind the bridge.
I upped my shim from a .25 degree to a .5 degree and am getting what I think is decent break angle. This sound sounds EXACTLY like if you were to setup to play behind the bridge like Puisheen. Every time I play up the next on the G string, I get no sustain, just resonance. Do I need to go to a FULL degree shim??
Jaguar/Jazzmaster, Mustang, Moserite, Silvertone, or other
so first i should mention that as a kid i made an effort to learn guitar and gave up. wound up playing around with drum machines, synths and sequencers in my youth.
now that i am old(er) and modding my kids guitars, i kinda decided to have another go. i am by no means even remotely good nor do i intend to play some beautiful and intricate pieces of music ever. i fuck around on the guitar and record little bits of noise and such to loop and manipulate in ableton.
anyways, even as a terribly mediocre player, i really really love this guitar. everything about it feels right, the playability and the weight, and i love the way it looks.
aside from this post being a love letter to my guitar, i suppose it’s a message that a cheap second hand guitar (this is a squier cv) with a couple reasonably priced upgrades and some of your time/labour/care can really be an amazing thing.
I have a MIJ Jazzmaster. When it arrived the bridge rattled a ton and I got it set up and as a result they shimmed it a decent amount (used a 1* StewMac shim). It came with the vintage style bridge and I understand the need for some break angle to keep the strings in the very unpronounced grooves.
I did not realize upon buying a JM that bridges and vibratos would become an obsession. Right now I have an AmPro style bridge in there and I just received a Halon bridge that I am pretty excited about. With the shim, the bridge and pickups are exceptionally high, though play well. I always hear break angle being important, but I am curious what angle is ideal and how you solve for that. I would imagine bridge type and sting gauge matter, but what is the rule of thumb on what I’m solving for?
Found on local Facebook marketplace and picked it up yesterday. I’ve been really enjoying playing it all day today.
I love this guitar, i received it 3 days ago and only today i had the time to play it plugged in the amp. This thing really rocks. I love it. I'm coming from a squier bullet mustang and the difference in sound is night and day!
I'm trying to coil split the hot rails, but all there is is just options for modding a coil split to a strat. Don't know how in the hell to wire, I got a friend who solders the pickups, but needs a wiring diagram first. Can anyone help me here?
Kim Gordon playing a Blacktop Jazzmaster during Nivana set at FireAid. I have this guitar and love it! Cool to see an artist playing it on the big stage
Copped a Squier CV '70s Jag on sale! Not my first offset (I had previously owned a Squier JM) but I'm still so happy with this purchase!
First mod - Blacked out the pickguard with some vinyl. What kind of mods should I do next?
Picked up a used CV JM. It was very poorly set up with the bridge lowered flat on the body 🤦♂️. So I've been doing the usual offset dance, shimming the neck, adjusting the trem, etc.
One thing I've been puzzling about is the intonation adjustment on the saddles. On the low E in particular I run out of adjustment on the saddle. Is this common? I can clip some of the spring off and get a little more travel but it seems odd to need to do that. The G string has a similar problem.
$20 from Goodwill. Invader bridge pickup upgrade is all I've done.
im looking to replicate the oranj-stang, so im planning on getting a squier mustang HH, putting in whatever neck single coil and tossing a super distortion humbucker in the bridge, and getting either white pearl pickguard or red pearl with HS style obviously, but i dont want the one three way switch below and i want the two three ways above the pickups, i cant find anywhere if it has routing to put those switches in, any help is appreciated
The missing piece in my collection, the perfect offset for down tuning with all the ergonomics and vibe without the hassle of offset hardware plus some powerful modified humbuckers to cut through the mix. In the fearly rare finish Teal Green Metallic. Find it in Reverb from a seller in Japan who also add a nice hardshell Fender case for a great price. At the moment is tune in D Standard with a set of StringJoy .11-.58 gauge, playing some Biffy Clyro and Four Year Strong songs.
Got a couple prototypes “in the works”, figured I’d share this one. Allows you to tune the string behind the bridge to certain pitches. Shown is just the pickup behind the bridge straight into a crappy practice amp (crappy phone recording so don’t pay too much attention to that). Uses a standard tele bridge pickup that fits into the existing trem cavity - no routing required. If there’s any interest I may create another post with more details.
I'm looking to buy my second guitar and I love the tone and aesthetics of JMs so I plan on getting one. However, I'm a bit tight for money right now so I've been considering a Squire. The issue is that I have friends who play Squier JMs and Jags and they often have complaints surrounding the build quality, specifically relating to the bridge and tremolo system. However, this could just be that they don't have them correctly set up, since I have a Squier bass that plays perfectly after a decent set up.
Now I'm questioning if I should risk it and go for the cheaper version or if I should just save up for one of the Fender versions. Any personal experiences with the Squier build quality would be appreciated.
I played one of these at a local shop months ago and fell in love with the feel of the shorter scale length. It was just a fun guitar to play. It needs a little setup, nothing to wild.
