So I’ve been natural for 7+ years and I just now have started to actually try to grow my hair. Over the past year I’ve been wearing wigs and it has helped grow my hair tremendously from my neck to a little Above bra strap length. I’m currently taking a break from wearing wigs for a month to let my hair be free. I’m super happy about it, but I have thee worst habit of constantly touching my hair because I just love it so much (which is also another reason why I started wearing wigs to keep from playing with my hair so much and actually let it grow ) but I hear it’s bad to constantly touch it so how do I stop myself from constantly touching my hair? I don’t even mean to do it. I just randomly touch it and then I get mad at myself. Lmao
My hair will be throughly detangled yet knots will appear at the ends in just hours. Knots also fall off when I run water over my hair when washing. I know having tight curls leads to higher chances of knots and such, but does anyone have any advice on how to combat these?
Hey community,
Canadian curly girl here.
With the unfortunate tariff situation kicking into gear, I'm preparing to divest from American products. In the past, I have used Camille Rose (Moroccan Pear, Almond Jai) and Kinky Curly (Come Clean shampoo) products. I — thankfully — DIY the rest.
What are some comparable Canadian — or non-American — brands and products that have worked for you?
Perhaps we could make a list of conditioners, deep conditioners, styling creams / gels, shampoos, etc. that have worked for us.
This would be so helpful. Thank you.
I personally have very fine, 4c hair and I've been trying to grow my hair for years. My hair doesn't typically grow past a certain length before experiencing some breakage. Because my strands are so fine i feel like everything causes breakage. In real life, everyone I know with fine 4c hair has trouble with retaining length. The only people I see with long type 4 hair usually have medium to coarse strands. Is this just the reality of this type of hair?
Even doodoo plaits right before bed are beautiful. Our hair is sooo amazing in so many ways. Just an appreciation post!
i’ve tried a couple times and can’t get it down. partially bc i have a lot of hair and i get tired toward the end of installing the rollers, and partially bc my dryer isn’t big enough to fit my head under when all the rollers are in. so they don’t dry right. and then i take it out and the hair is stiff and puffy. i see girlies doing it and would looove to be able to but i also haven’t come across anyone with super super dense hair. what yall think?
Hey yall I’ve been looking for a black braids subs I would appreciate any suggestions r/braids is not black which is cool but also not what I’m looking for. Thanks in advance!
Hey, all. Wasn't sure where else to post this. Does anyone have advice for removing/dealing with facial fuzz in the upper lip area for dark skin? I'm dark skinned but the hair is darker and I look like I have a moustache. It's getting to me and I'm feeling self conscious about it. Does anyone deal with this and what do you do? TIA.
On 4C hair would it be better to dye, wash, dominican treatment conditioner, or wash, dye, dominican treatment, conditioner?
How often do you use conditioner with 4c hair ? And how often should you use shampoo
Would it make sense to shampoo twice a week ? And how many times a week would you use conditioner . And do you do if right after bathing and do you use shampoo and then conditioner on the same days ?
Ik this might sound stupid but I wasn’t taught about this
And how often should wash days be ?
I’m wondering if it’s okay to get braids while struggling with both androgenic alopecia and tension alopecia. I braid my own hair and was planning on doing big knotless braids (with small braiding hair so tension isn’t too bad). Would this still further damage my hair? Currently I’ve just been wearing it out naturally, but since I have 4c thin-stranded hair, it gets tangled everyday and detangling it just pulls out even more hairs. This is why I’m thinking braids could be safer
First off, I want to say that this sub is one of the most positive places for natural hair I've come across on the internet so far and I think the mods and community are doing a good job at celebrating all hair types. However I can't help but notice the amount subtle and sometimes blatant texturism still perpetuated here and in the black hair sub. For example, there was a recently a post here of a girl whose hair patterned loosened from pregnancy that had countless texturist comments beneath it. And in my own personal experience, every single time I post a picture of my own hair in here and/or the black hair sub I receive texturist dm requests asking about my race, ethnicity, whether or not I'm mixed and about my nationality implying that the curl pattern I have must be due to being mixed which I'm not. Side note: These are always from men and I ignore them everytime and I encourage any other women here not to entertain texturist men who fetishize certain curl types. I also notice looser curls types can simply exist in this sub and receive a huge amount of praise and adoration that tighter patterns don't always receive. Anyway, I'm just being honest about what I've noticed and experienced, which is that the texturism with a clear preference for 3a/3b, 3b/3c, and 3c/4a may be toned down but is still happening. I hope this community can call it out when necessary and stop perpetuating it. This post is labeled as need advice because there is no discussion tag but it's more of a call to action than anything, hoping people can reflect internally and improve.
Hi guys! I'd like to know what tips people have and products people recommend for doing a two strand twist at home on 4c hair. I usually get it done at a salon but figured I'd try doing it myself.
First time so not focused on how it looks just more on technique and products for 'setting' it and length. Thanks!
wish I could wear it out everyday
