Good morning all! I am looking at moving out to Minneapolis in the next few months and based off some google-fu it seems like a good fit. Currently planning on visiting the area before the end of the year and just wanted to see what you guys recommend for areas to live in. Thank you!
Can rent a studio or 1 bedroom for under $1,600 a month
In a relatively (for a major city) quiet area; I live in the suburbs of a larger city already so my standards on quiet aren't crazy high
Easy access to some parks, nature trails, forest preserves, etc.
In a fairly safe area; not expecting a no crime just an area where its safe to walk at night (sleeping difficulties so its important to be able to walk)
Good community resources; looking mainly at the quality of libraries, community events, and volunteer opportunities; just looking at making friends in the area without immediately knowing anyone out there (I'm 25M but generally get along well with all age groups but friends my age would be a bonus)
Thank you everyone for the help and let me know if any clarification is need on anything. Stay warm!
Filmed at 630pm in South Minneapolis. Both lights were seemingly stationary, quite large in scale, and emitted flickering green/red/orange colored light. I saw several planes pass which were very small relative to the lights. I would love to get to the bottom of this!
Hello, I just moved to minnesota and I love playing poker. I discovered there’s no NLHE cash games, but 2-100 spread will do, and I heard Canterbury is nice. I’m impatient and I want to check it out this week. Does Canterburys poker room always have games going? It says 24/7 but I feel like minnesota is not known for poker so it might not be busy on weekdays, idk. Also I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this, I just got no answers in the poker subreddit.
So there's something to add to our musical history....for better or worse haha
I realize this problem is likely not limited to MPLS and is likely just a widespread symptom of corporate fuckery.
This morning I took my four year old out to get their piggy bank money counted. Coins and paper. They were thrilled and I got her excited for the process. I worked at a credit union in college. I wrongfully assumed any brick and mortar bank could handle counting coins in some fashion.
I was wrong.
Our primary bank is Huntington due to our mortgage. So we go in. The teller looked at me like I was speaking in tongues when I made the request. My kid was confused. He called over a teammate who told me they don’t do that and legitimately looked disgusted. They offered to give me paper tubes to count and roll them myself. I grabbed my kid a few suckers from bowl and we left.
Chase was next door, I use them. Figured it was worth a try. To her credit the person there was nice and this office was more oriented to other customers. She said most banks got rid of the machines years ago. She suggested a credit union.
So we took a chance and the CU up the road had a machine and their staff was incredibly nice. My kid got a bunch of candy and to their credit was incredible patient.
Of all the services you can’t force online or to digital medium. If it weren’t for my mortgage I’d suggest we close and move accounts tomorrow. Yes it’s petty. No, it’s not that extreme.
Hey gang, does anyone know how friendly the corporate and legal community is to queer people. Specifically wondering if I dress androgynous at work will it be a problem.
Visiting Minneapolis for several days on separate occasions these next few weeks.
With time to burn after work engagements — I’d LOVE to visit some holiday markets that are open at night (during the work week) and/or any smaller neighborhoods/towns with great light displays.
Bonus points if there are great restaurants to grab a bite at!
TIA!!
I already miss being able to take the detoured 17 or 6 directly to the Aldi on 26th or Bob's on 27th. Made me realize how nice it would be to have bus service in Uptown and Whittier along 26th and 28th.
Where is a good place in town for a small, real christmas tree? I don't want to travel too far.
Does the City of Minneapolis offer a coverage plan for sewer lines? I just bought a house and this isn’t an option offered by my homeowners insurance, but they mentioned some utility companies offer it. Anyone have experience with this? Just want to avoid a possibility of ever having to fork over $15k+ to repair a sewer line that could get damaged by tree roots, etc.
Hi everyone.
I’m thinking about replacing my single-car garage door. Does anyone know a good company for this? I live in the south metro area.
EDIT: Thank you all for your suggestions. I looked on Google, found Wayzata Garage Door, and decided to go with them.
I'm in the market for my first vinyl setup and looking for a store that carries a good variety that would allow me to listen to different setups. What shops would you recommend in the Twin Cities area?
I picked up a passenger from here once, that's how I initially found it. It's in the neighborhood behind the Walker art museum.
Off Hwy 94
My Minneapolis friend is celebrating a big birthday next month and I want to gift her some type of special/luxury experience that she wouldn’t normally do/get for herself. She’s a big (vegetarian) foodie, likes working out, and loves travel, but I’m open to any type of cool experiences I could gift to her in the area. Thanks in advance!
I travel quite a bit for work, about 40 round trips a year, mostly to cities east of the Mississippi River. This year I was able to visit MSP three times, I have to say I do NOT dread hanging at this airport. So many decent food choices, cool merch etc, many places to sit my ass down to chill. Y'all did MSP right!
Hi all, I'm looking for a place to move in a few years but right now I'm just visiting potential places. I'll be up there in early January. What's open in that time frame that you'd recommend?
We're coming from the south so snow alone to us is a rare occurrence. In fact, this will my 10 year olds first time seeing it.
Looking for someone to do about 6 inches of gravel ( 35sq feet) for a sauna placement. Probably too late in the year for it now, so would be early spring. Any recs appreciated
Thanks!
Just a random thought that I'd like to hear more peoples' histories with the 29th Street tracks before they became the greenway. I remember when they were converted to the greenway but have earlier memories of exploring them in Uptown and under the Sear's building (first place I ever saw a barrel fire lol) and specifically being told by older folks to keep out of there.
I have a REALLY vague recollection of when there used to be trains west of Hiawatha but it's so murky.
I don't go out to Minneapolis often (suburban city person) but I should see if all of these areas are a real accurate representation of what some of these areas in Tony Hawk American Wasteland are to for Minneapolis.
In one more day from out of state and need a bottle of the hot sauce. I know he’s closed, but does anyone carry the hot sauce?
I'm a professional games dealer starting a job at Mystic Lake Casino at the beginning of January. I'm looking for a place to live, but I'm blown away by how expensive everything is. Anyone know of a good apartment complex, less than $1000 a month? I wouldn't mind having a roommate or twi in the right situation. I'm 35, single, with one cat. Good credit, good finances, clean, and easy to live with. If you know anywhere, message me please!
We just moved to the Twin Cities and our little terrier who has spent most of her life in the southwest is freezing her tiny little butt off. If you have a small dog, how do you keep it warm? If you use dog sweaters I would love specific recommendations of good brands. I find the stuff at PetSmart and Petco to be insufficient.
Hi all, I'm a math tutor during the school year and I also sub. Is this a good summer camp? I can't really sus it out by looking at the website. I'm not looking for a serious stayaway camp, but I need work for the summer.
Hi I’m a local artist is there anyone out there that host lil shows or party’s that have performances? I believe I have music that would draw a decent size crowd + also have a fun time.
Scoping out Minneapolis for a possible move. One of the reasons is climate. We are currently in Louisville, KY, which has increasingly oppressive summers. Typically highs around 90F with high humidity. This summer, it felt like there were 3-4 straight weeks of heat index over 100.
I see a lot of people on this subreddit complain about the summer humidity. Can someone who is familiar with southern climates or the Ohio river valley weigh in? How does it compare?
