This is not a question because im already playing canon of creation but i cant help to feel like im missing on alot of stuff by playing creation i picked creation because the "voice" said that the story would change if i gave my hand to the girl so i wanted to see how the original (time line?) looked like
Another one
I have my PS4 disc of SMT 3 Nocturne, is it backwards compatible on ps5??
I've seen others with seemingly the same issue but no answers. I got the dlc for this game on switch and after relaunching multiple times the bethel researchers are here with grey speech bubbles over their heads and they won't give me the quests. Am I missing something?
Does anyone know where to obtain Evergreen dance? I'm at the Shiva fight right now, I'm trying to do some omnipotence succession shenanigans.
Thanks in advance!
Hello! Seeing as the reception to my post in regards to how the Canon of Vengeance had recontextualized Nuwa and Yakumo's original route, I decided to write an analysis post into arguably the Canon of Creation's most developed character as well as it's least developed, and ironically, the Canon of Vengeance's least developed and its most developed character, those being respectively Ichiro Dazai and Yuzuru Atsuta.
I will write this post focusing mainly on Dazai in the first part then focus on the consequences of his Vengeance development and how Yuzuru's presence is felt throughout the narrative post mortem.
I will draw parallels in this post between their roles in both canons as well as characters and visionary items from SMT I and II, and hopefully look deeper into their role in the narrative of the Canon of Vengeance, and show how Dazai and Atsuta connect into the bull and serpent conflict.
1. How Dazai deviates from his original role. One of the things that many call attention to in the Canon of Vengeance is that Dazai's development, or rather, his fall from grace, is Mastema, which at first; one would draw parallels between him and Zelenin, however I do not think that is the intention with him, precisely because in this game Mastema is not particularly intersted in the goals of the angels or the forces of law.
Both him and Strange Journey Mastema come from other worlds as shown in SJ's Drama CD. however Strange Journey Mastema was, by all means, actively invested in creating a Thousand Year Kingdom, spreading Law and Order across the multiverse.
However as pointed out by Koshimizu, shown in Yoko's route and again in his fusion into Satan, Mastema's intersted in one thing alone, mantaining the throne system running, which begs the question, what is his interest then in making it so that Dazai and Abdiel are not only incapable of taking upon the throne but actively hunt down and kill those that would dare to try?
This calls back to Mastema's role as a tempter figure, who God has given free reign and permission over evil spirits to showcase the wickedness in the hearts of men.
That is not all, Mastema is to Canon of Vengeance Dazai what Lucifer was to him in the Canon of Creation, I blame no one for forgetting the scene I mention seeing as the Canon of Creation released years ago. I refer to this
Here Lucifer is portrayed not as a tempter but as a figure of enlightenment, as is one of his interpretations in gnosticism that the series is known for, this scene then is a clear allusion to Shin Megami Tensei II's visionary items, particularly the fragment of petrification prison.
Among the parallels we have:
•Law Hero(es) stuck in a position where to follow God's Orders, to obey, means the death of the Law Alignment as a whole.
•A voice from above calls out to them to engage critically with what it means to follow the will of God and that one should not focus on obedience but rather forge a law in their stead.
The connections to SMTII go further, if in the Canon of Creation Dazai and Abdiel are able to articulate a critique of the system of myriad gods and thus an explanation as to why the condemnation was even set forth in the first place, the Canon of Vengeance and Dazai's lack of explanations as to why even follow a Dead God's will in the his absence, are then on purpose.
Mastema fools Dazai; he always was able to be a teleporting spiky haired freak, he always had that potential in him, however he is fooled into believing such a power comes not from himself but is a gift from on high, tying once again into the themes of gnosticism.
Here Mastema keeps Dazai locked in the material world, incapable of being as a god and envisioning law and its reason for being.
And thus Dazai draws from another SMTII character, that being... Gimmel, as shown in the visionary item Laurel Leaf.
A law without critical thought and based solely on obedience is incapable of creating a world, it can only bring destruction, by all means this is what Gimmel and the Center in SMTII and Dazai in the Canon of Vengeance are ultimately about.
2. Yuzuru Atsuta, Koshimizu and SMTI's Chaos
This is a mini analysis on the consequences of Dazai's actions and the Tsukuyomi Nahobino form.
If Susano-o is a bull god and he is our main partner, his albeit temporary death allows us to be put in another perspective.
If in the Canon of Creation our view is as one with the will and power to forge a world, then the Canon of Vengeance puts us in the perspective of one who fuses himself with a demon for the sake of power, to achieve our revenge, which ties back into the SMTI's Chaos Hero.
Besides his appearences being rather similar to the Chaos Hero of SMTI, Atsuta's suspicions on YHWH's ability to mantain order, of giving happiness to others being a chaotic sentiment and the theme of the Amatsukami being a direct reference to how Chaos often times has a national emphasis at best and outright imperialism at worst, as SMTI Gotou showcases; It is the fact that Atsuta dies at the hands of those stronger than him that further solidify his role as a Chaos Hero.
As shown in the visionary item Broken Specs (and like, his whole character lol) the reason why the Chaos Hero seeks strength is he was once weak. The difference however is that the Chaos Hero of SMTV is not just Yuzuru Atsuta, but Koshimizu as well.
Koshimizu in the following scene abandons the powers of creation to seek Vengeance, and the form of the Nahobino born from Koshimizu draws many similarities with the Chaos Hero from SMTI, such as his face being covered and the blade that comes from his hand being curved, much like the Chaos Hero's Katana.
The irony from us being put in the role of a serpent who crawls the earth eating away the dust, accursed, plotting revenge against the bull god's servants, which is a theme showcased in Abdiel's Nahobino form mind you. Is that we are put in such a predicament precisely because of the Qadistu's manipulations, putting the MC squarely in the middle and allows us to choose either Tao or Yoko as our partner.
Conclusion: Ichiro Dazai and Abdiel, as well as Yuzuru Atsuta and Koshimizu are faithful embodiments of the series' traditions of Law and Chaos. And beyond that, they are contextualized into Vengeance's themes of the Bull Gods who rule the world with an iron fist capable of and with the power of creating order and their eternal struggle against the Serpent Gods, forces of chaos who are oppressed by the world's order, who have no choice but to plot in the shadows for their chance of revenge.
Their writing is a tragedy as in Vengeance they are not the subjects who propose an alignment, they are an object of analysis.
One is allowed to view Dazai's meaningless fall from grace, a direct result of him viewing YHWH's laws without a critical thought and murdering his own friend the very moment he had the power to do so as a condemnation of the system of the throne, where the gods are fated to do battle for the mere chance of being able to unilaterally impose their will upon everyone else, where humans fall prey into emulating that in a manner not dissimilar to how Gimmel emulates the Center, thus aligning with Yoko's vision.
Or we are given the option of viewing both Dazai and Atsuta as human beings who require a god capable of understanding human flaws and needs, as, funnily enough, the condemnation splitting the gods of old into demons and their knowledge, has allowed for the chance of a human rising to the throne and making a world for humanity, where though we preserve an amount of order, we still hear out those who are not in power and allow everyone's wishes to be met, in relative opacity. Aligning with Tao's vision.
Hey everyone, I made a video talking about Strange Journey and why it's one of Atlus' best games! I've played this game numerous times over the years and finally decided to put my thoughts out there! Hopefully everyone enjoys. https://youtu.be/vv0xQqdFwzY
personally i would love to get smiv michael and either arsene or the joker mask someday (if i can get my skin issues under control)
Basically the idea is this: instead of having beings from the Abrahamic religion as representatives of law and chaos, we would have beings from Hindu mythology with the Devas being law and the Asuras being chaos.
Law alignment: "To truly live, every human should ascend into a new, etheral plane of existence (Moksha) and abandon their physical forms and desires behind, only that Will make humans have happiness, the soul is sacred."
Chaos Alignment: ""To truly live, humanity must embrace desire, freedom, and the physical world, breaking free from any imposed order or destiny. Ascension is a lie; the body and its pleasures are sacred, and individuality must reign supreme."
So, the two games I've played in this (series? multiverse?) are SMT3 Nocturne and P4 Golden. So I was all excited when I maxed out Devil and could summon Beelzebub. Only to find he has no unique abilities. The fly swarm of doom from SMT3 is gone.
I started getting the top personas of the other Arcana and found that, similarly, they (the ones I've gotten so far) have no unique abilities either.
Feels bad man.
So I know about the 2 routes and that one is the original and one is the new one but does the new one include everything from the old route too or Is it just the new content? And also I know that Demi fiend is In the game through the Ost (Battle demi fiend, really creative name btw) so I wanna ask if this is a good starting point if I never played a mainline smt game or if it spoilers games like smt 3. thanks in advance
